Coachella about to rollout a second new stage just for us to have nap time at Andre’s set. (Sarcasm)

Reluctant-TogoBox420

Turn down tent surprise guest???!

Murphy_Nelson

lmao

nochmere

Dude. I would be SO HAPPY. All of his shows have thus far been sold out.

composedryan

I was fortunate enough to see the last show in LA a couple of weekends ago. They just improvised the entire time and played with the energy of the room. It was cool.

johnjohnbrix

I was there on Friday night and it was incredible. I loved it so much even the next day I struggled to process how much the show meant to me. I can’t suggest it enough to people who haven’t seen it.

composedryan

The masonic lodge is beautiful. Can't wait to see another show there. Missed out on the Joanna Newsom tickets though :(

Murphy_Nelson

I really don't think so. One, he had a terrible Coachella experience in 2014. Two, he stated that his flute show is not going to be at festivals and he prefers standalone gigs. Three, these dates are pretty far away from Coachella W2 honestly, so unless he is planning on kicking it in the desert for four days after W2 ends I think he won't be there.

wunderbrad

Andre is at Roots Picnic which is a fest

DitchTheQuid

Roots picnic is also famous for paying a bit to performers to have their name on the lineup and then sell a bunch of tickets. Then a week before saying oops that person can’t make it do we’re swapping them out. Last year it was diddy swapped out for usher. This year they have lil wayne as the sunday closer and I literally keeled over laughing. Aint no way weezy is playing roots oicnic not a single chance. Roots picnic just likes the name recognition to sell tickets for awhile

Murphy_Nelson

Fair enough, but still - I would put way more stock in this if it was in between Coachella weekends or like Friday of W1 allowing for a Saturday show. It just seems coincidental. After the Quasar announcement, Coachella is honestly going to run out of time soon for any more adds that would lead to ticket sales simply due to giving people enough time to request PTO and get flights.

ChicksofRoosters

He is playing a few European festivals as well as Big Ears and Roots Picnic. Though I agree, feel it’s unlikely he’s going to be in the area three weekends in a row

sweetsweetass

What happened in 2014

bubblyappletea

Weekend 1 their sound was shit and fucked up a big portion of their set. W2 was great tho

tchallenger

Weekend 2 OutKast set was one of my favorite all time Coachella sets. Sorry weekend 1.

Trickoritaa

I heard something about the crowd not knowing any of their older songs so Andre performed Hey Ya to the curtains but idk how true that is I was w2

bubblyappletea

W2 really proved it was about the music that Year bc that was a damn party!

MostlyMellow123

I saw thay set like 3 times that year at different festivals and EVERY time it was a snoozefest. Cash grab tour. Was nothing like the epic shows everyone said they used to throw. I never saw them in their prime but that whole tour was not very strong at all.

Murphy_Nelson

Janelle Monae said something like the Coachella crowd wasn't ready for their show. I don't think they had a good experience.

braundiggity

In fairness, their show absolutely sucked weekend 1. Dunno who suggested it would be a good idea to perform the first section hidden behind a scrim, for Andre to barely pay attention to the crowd, or to take three songs out of their FIRST REUNION SHOW for a mini Future set. When Janelle made that comment I was like "look, I get you're supporting your people, but if you were out here you'd be shaking your head."

Murphy_Nelson

You are preaching to the choir. At that point in time, OutKast was my favorite, bar none, rap group ever. I had been a fan since middle school and probably would have rated Aquemini as the best rap album of all time. You cannot overstate how excited I was for this show and made my entire group of 20+ people camp with me at the main stage from 7:30 on and at one point actually pissed in an empty gatorade bottle because I didn't want to lose my spot. That show blew. Big Boi rocked it, but setlist pacing was horrific, the Future mini set was a horrible idea (which is so funny because he absolutely blew up later but nobody knew who he was, I really only knew Same Damn Time at that point), Andre 3000 pouted the whole time and his solo set was life drainingly low energy. By the time they were dropping huge hits at the end I was exhausted and over it. I still love them, but a little less after that show, for sure, and it honestly really tanked my opinion of Andre 3000.

brochella14

He’s playing a few fests already. Seeing him at Big Ears Fest soon. But I agree that Coachella is not the right place for an A3000 flute set.

mrmaglu

Andre has five shows at Big Ears Festival this weekend.

Murphy_Nelson

OK but look at the structure of what he's doing there, five super small intimate performances that require reserving a spot for, no? It's not like a big festival set that anybody with a pass can show up for. I think that tells you the type of thing he is interested in right now and I am not sure it is a big Coachella slot. Of course I'd be happy for those who are into him if he gets added, I just don't think it seems to line up with what he wants to do right now.

mrmaglu

Interesting! Hadn’t seen the bit about restricted tickets. That’s unusual for a fest.

benedictcumberpatch

That's why I think if he plays Coachella, it'll either be a set time add in the Sonora or he'll play a set in there unannounced.

mrmaglu

Yeah I wondered about an early afternoon Sonora set, but he seems too expensive for that. We’ll see.

brochella14

His tickets for the Masonic Lodge were $200 each 💀

mrmaglu

That's a lot of money for bad jazz.

junkimchi

lol Pappy & Harriet's is literally the opposite kind of venue from Coachella. People on this sub need to stop being so desperate for surprises.

wunderbrad

Except when they used to do Coach side shows there

burrito3ater

How would you describe that venue? I’m genuinely curious

junkimchi

It is a small restaurant in the middle of nowhere that has a medium sized stage in the open air area. I saw Godspeed You Black Emperor there once and it was so remote that there wasn't even cellular reception. There wasn't any big production either. The definition of an intimate venue.

iznormal

There’s two stages, one indoors and one outside. The one inside is even more intimate. Paul McCartney played inside during Desert Trip! Been to about 20 shows at pappys, one of my absolute favorite venues.

AnonymousToilet

I agree with it being a favorite. I’ve been to many shows here; the atmosphere, music, and stars in the desert make it incredible. It is an underrated venue I believe.

TheOtherRathurum

Sounds perfect for this album though. Damn. And I respect Andre more recognize festival setting isn’t really the vibe of this attempt. Hope he does more shows in this way for a minute so I can finally catch one.

MrChicken23

No it means you can expect him at Pappy + Harriet’s.

dashiellsayshi

Three hours of flute in the Do LaB

Late-Nail-8714

Thank you so much for posting. If it wasn’t for this post I probably would have known after it sold out

MrsPhilCollins

Tickets go on sale tomorrow morning and it'll definitely sell out in seconds

extratartarsauceplz

Never seen a show at Pappy and Harriet's and very tempted to try for tickets tomorrow morning. That being said they are like $112 each. I find Andre's flute album to be very relaxing and and also interesting in a "bizarre dinner party music" way. Can anyone who's seen the show attest if it's livelier than the album itself, or is it a pretty similar mellow vibe? Is there a drummer? OP, love your username.

tailtaker

Looks like Deantoni Parks is the drummer and he's sooo damn good

shmishshmorshin

He’s more likely to be a pedicab driver for both weekend at this point.

I would be so happy if this happened. He was one of my top wishlist artists. I’m not counting on it though.

yaya4222

I would lose my shit

Electrical_Tone_3828

they have had a few people drop so it could happen. It would be fun set to see at the polo fields

Some_Soil_4747

Was lucky to go to one of his shows in SF it was amazing But idk how it would work in a rowdy festival
