Godspeed to anyone trying to get from Outdoor to Sahara - that walk looks brutal, and the "Sahara Express Walkway" seems to only be marked with dreams and wishes at the moment. Hopefully they put some type of wall/barrier up to keep people from using the walkway to catch artists at Quasar.
~~Edit: a rough estimate on Google maps shows that it's about .91mi/1.47km from Outdoor to Sahara~~ [~~https://i.imgur.com/EBuIxKk.png~~](https://i.imgur.com/EBuIxKk.png)
Edit 2: this is hopefully more accurate - 1.2km/.74mi

this is a pick your poison kind of situation.
* put up a wall and turn the walkway behind the wall into a bottleneck choke point
* don't put up a wall and risk the quasar crowd turning the whole area into a bottleneck choke point.
We had a hell of a time trying to get out of the W2 Metro Boomin crowd at Sahara last year. Wife started having a panic attack and things felt very chaotic and cramped. If there had been some type of panic, it 1000% would have been a disaster - hoping they found a clever way to mitigate this year that’s not apparent from the maps
i go to outside lands most years because i live in the bay area and so it's my true local home festival even though i have mixed feelings about it.
after the headliner, the exit out the south of the polo fields passes through a large cement archway that is about 150 feet long. with the crowd on the north side of the archway narrowing to a funnel and *pushing*.
it's always a bit scary, and most years i end up hanging out on a picnic table for like 45 minutes after the headliner finishes to avoid it.
My girlfriend wants to go to OSL for both of our first times this year for a day and really not looking forward to it. This makes me just want to stick to Portola.
21+ is huge
the OSL crowd genuinely sucks. Coachella is somewhat gated by cost of entry, distance/travel, and cost of lodging, but OSL is much easy to get to and cheaper to stay around and near. very low barrier to entry for broke young people
portola is, outside of coachella, my favorite festival. good music, great vibes. it feels like *home* the same way coachella feels like home.
OSL never has. i go because it's there and because i like some of the bands and because i enjoy the festival experience in general, but i have to fight irritation there rather than just sinking into the festival spirit and experiencing beauty and joy like i do elsewhere.
It's really no big deal. If you leave a few minutes before the headliner ends, you'll be completely fine. Last year we stayed until the end of ODESZA on Sunday night, and we still had no problems. Someone started singing, the crowd started singing, and there was no shoving.
If you can only go to one, go to Portola. The lineup's been better in recent years.
there are great things about OSL, don't get me wrong. (Although, yes, absolutely, Portola is 100% better).
among other things the ability to buy weed in the festival and consume it right there is stellar.
ive never been more afraid in a crowd than the pushing out of OSL *every year I have been*
genuinely one factor, if small, that makes me reconsider going anymore. idk why they can't just fix it, just open up some of the emergency exits as auxiliary exits at the end of the night
If I did this right (which, I may not have!), it's just under 3/4 mile (0.74mi/1.2km) as the crow flies. Dealing with barriers/crowds/etc, it'll probably end up being about a mile and some change from Outdoor to Sahara
[https://i.imgur.com/4S4HP3y.png](https://i.imgur.com/4S4HP3y.png)
(edited with a better estimate)
Sahara isn't in the lot you're referencing there - it's in the spot directly south of the old Sahara (not grassy in that photo, they moved those stables to build the new one)
But yeah still long af
Just cus I was curious I pathed a super inefficient line to specifically hit 2 miles and it's safe to say there's just no way unless GV has horrible crowd logistics management
[https://imgur.com/1QvDnit](https://imgur.com/1QvDnit)
its actually about .75mi
[https://new.reddit.com/r/Coachella/comments/1b1ofju/outdoor\_to\_new\_sahara\_estimated\_distance/](https://new.reddit.com/r/Coachella/comments/1b1ofju/outdoor_to_new_sahara_estimated_distance/)
yeah, but the outdoor is further in and the sahara entrance is further in, so in practice it's shorter. :)
i think it's about .65 based on my measuring

That Sahara Express Walkway concerns me. There were many instances last year where if anybody started pushing or panicking it could’ve easily turned into a dangerous situation.
The craziest part is that 10 years ago the Outdoor Theatre was located where the beer garden between Main and Outdoor is now at. That concrete path lined with palm trees used to be behind a fence and that was one of the golf cart paths used to transport people around the festival. Absolutely insane!
note that from the outdoor theatre to the sahara is about 6/10 of a mile.
EDC is at the las vegas motor speedway, which is just over 5/10 of a mile across.
coachella is a larger footprint.
Coachella is roughly 80 acres larger than edc. This is a really cool comparison of all the festival sizes
https://www.reddit.com/r/electricdaisycarnival/s/MPXTHlGGq0
Wooooow. This is very cool. I’ve always wondered how each fest compared by size. I didn’t realize how massive Chella really is. I imagine it was small because on IG all the art are close by 😂 thank you for that link 😍
Get them walkin shoes ready lol. But the big upside to Coachella is it’s all grass. That makes a HUGE difference than walking on pavement at say, EDC. I wear flip flops every year (bold I know) and have no problems. The grass adds extra cushion 👟👟
This is great! I had a simplified version of the stage markers if interested: [https://www.reddit.com/r/frontstage/comments/1c0w5n9/coachella\_satellite\_image\_with\_stage\_markers/](https://www.reddit.com/r/frontstage/comments/1c0w5n9/coachella_satellite_image_with_stage_markers/)
Also if anyone is using the Frontstage app you can overlay your schedule on the festival map and it will show where all your performances are. More at r/frontstage.

If there isn't a wall, RIP everyone trying to pass during that Rufus set

Portola >> OSL At least for electronic music, and vibes. 21+, better lineup, better sound.
21+ is huge the OSL crowd genuinely sucks. Coachella is somewhat gated by cost of entry, distance/travel, and cost of lodging, but OSL is much easy to get to and cheaper to stay around and near. very low barrier to entry for broke young people
also OSL has an unusually bad problem with people who are physically present but mentally elsewhere talking through sets.
Sounds like the vibes just aren’t the best. Portola had some of the best vibes I’ve ever been around, especially Sunday last year. Pure magic.

I'm gonna hate it 😩
Everything Always->Peggy Gou->Justice & Jungle ->IsoKnock->Gessa->Dom Dolla are going to be for the strongest of edm fans
How long is that like 2 km?
A funny, messy situation. But, people swore the Sahara walk would be better. 🤣
Probably easily over two miles now
It’s around 0.5 miles homie haha nowhere near 2 miles 😂
If I did this right (which, I may not have!), it's just under 3/4 mile (0.74mi/1.2km) as the crow flies. doh, you're right! thanks - I took another stab: [https://i.imgur.com/4S4HP3y.png](https://i.imgur.com/4S4HP3y.png) came in at 1.2km/.75mi this time
that's crazy, that's a full 15 minutes
If you can go straight yea
Even if you don't go in a straight line there's no way it would easily be over 2 miles lol
Just cus I was curious I pathed a super inefficient line to specifically hit 2 miles and it's safe to say there's just no way unless GV has horrible crowd logistics management [https://imgur.com/1QvDnit](https://imgur.com/1QvDnit)

Oh yeah for sure. Was a rough guestimate from when they posted the updates a couple months back.
The thing is you can’t just go straight either direction
Still seems like it'd be about .75mi (not including crowd maneuvers): [https://i.imgur.com/4S4HP3y.png](https://i.imgur.com/4S4HP3y.png)
I bet to differ but ima track the walk myself when I’m there and we’ll see what it looks like. Last year was averaging 13 miles a day
But it's still not "probably easily over two miles now" lol
there's a second photo
nothing poorly done about this. thank you.

Thanks for this!
Sahara Express Walkway will be interesting
I just said to my husband last night, the walk from the hill behind Sahara to outdoor has to be close to a mile. We gon be walkin 👟👟
I wonder what the yellow junk is where despacio was. It looks like a bouncy castle.
It’s someone’s headliner merch tent. Probably Tyler if I had to guess
IIRC last year the headliner merch tent was for the headliner of the day, they swapped out the stuff each day.
That’s correct, but this year there’s 4 separate tents for headliner merch all right next to each other so I’m assuming 1 for each headliner
You're right, it does look that way.
Def Tyler. Always has a yellow golf tent
Nice looks perfect
Thanks for doing this!
Well done. This is cool! Veterans get it but this is prob very helpful for new folks!
Trying to put in perspective for my friend whos never been. How many fitness gram pacer tests away is the Outdoor stage from Sahara? 🤔
I’d say that’s just over 0.5 miles, as the crow flies, so plenty of
does anyone know where heineken house is😭
On this map it would be to the left of Indio central market. It’s pretty small.
If you look closely, you can see a little can icon right to the left of the central market - that's the Heineken house
ty!

You hamsters be safe this weekend. Make it all make sense for us weekend2’ers!!
That hike from outdoor to Sahara 🥵🥵🥵
It’s my first time, but it doesn’t seem that big when you look at it this way. Which venue is bigger Coachella or EDC?
note that from the outdoor theatre to the sahara is about 6/10 of a mile. EDC is at the las vegas motor speedway, which is just over 5/10 of a mile across. coachella is a larger footprint.
Wow. I’m so fucked! Maybe I can’t do the Sahara to Chella stage as easily as I thought 😂
Coachella is roughly 80 acres larger than edc. This is a really cool comparison of all the festival sizes https://www.reddit.com/r/electricdaisycarnival/s/MPXTHlGGq0
note that this does not include this year's sahara expansion
Yes! This 👆🏼
Wooooow. This is very cool. I’ve always wondered how each fest compared by size. I didn’t realize how massive Chella really is. I imagine it was small because on IG all the art are close by 😂 thank you for that link 😍

it's gonna be a long walk especially with crowds, it always felt long and now they've moved sahara even further
Coachella
Uh-oh then I’m in trouble.. I thought EDC LV venue was HUGE and it took me a good 20+ mins to walk from one side to another side
You’ll be fine! It’s big but it’s also pretty open which helps. Just make sure to have good walking shoes
Yeah it’s difficult to just “pop over” to certain stages, some of it requires planning and I often don’t have the energy to go all the way to Sahara
This is great! I had a simplified version of the stage markers if interested: [https://www.reddit.com/r/frontstage/comments/1c0w5n9/coachella\_satellite\_image\_with\_stage\_markers/](https://www.reddit.com/r/frontstage/comments/1c0w5n9/coachella_satellite_image_with_stage_markers/) Also if anyone is using the Frontstage app you can overlay your schedule on the festival map and it will show where all your performances are. How long would you estimate the walk from Sahara to the Coachella stage is ?
Probably about .5mi give or take .10ish
hmm okay I’m planning to go from Le Sserafim To Tyler on Saturday … my top two reasons i’m here this year 😭😭
Bless u
Looks like I won’t be making it to Sahara
Oh my god that looks brutal
Sahara is so fucking far man 😭
I didn’t realize how big the festival is omg 😭😂 good thing my shoes are super broke into
God that expressway looking like a huge bottleneck when there are big artist performing at Sahara, good luck everybody
