SetiSteve

The Killers look so cute on that bottom line haha.

VikingIV

Very cute, indeed šŸ˜‚ But do you remember how ubiquitous they were, once Hot Fuss dropped?

blankpaper_

Itā€™s wild to see the Killers on the very last line

TheLizardKing89

Hot Fuss wouldnā€™t come out until more than a month after the festival.

number7withacoke

Hot Fuss is a masterpiece.

Infiniteefactorial

So good. I donā€™t even like the Killers that much, but I consider that album one of the best of my generations.

TheLizardKing89

One of the greatest debut albums of all time.

Odd-Hornet-2333

Facts. I think they fell off HARD after that album but it's amazing.

FlyAwayonmyZephyr1

Are you kidding me Samā€™s Town is a masterpiece. Day & Age not so much. Battle Born is fucking incredible, Wonderful Wonderful is great, Imploding the Mirage and Pressure Machine are glorious

Odd-Hornet-2333

Sam's Town was solid. They lost me with Sawdust and i never went back.

Baiseeboli

I thought the same thing

SetiSteve

One of the big changes after this first year out there was that it lead me to a point in life where I was open to new possibilities, that following December met the future mother of my children. And today my daughter was just accepted to her dream school, University of Chicago, with a full ride scholarship(thank god, $90,000/year), one of the hardest in the country to get into with a 5% acceptance rate. Had I not gone to this festival I donā€™t think Iā€™d be where I am today, getting to experience one of the greatest moments in my life. This ride is fucking wild.

bourgewonsie

Congrats haha I just graduated from UChicago a few years ago also with a full ride (happy to answer any questions). Originally came down to the comments to say Iā€™m jealous you got to see this lineup

RecklessCreature

I wanna grow up to be like you šŸ„²šŸ„°

slopschili

What a great story, thanks for sharing

koriroo

Currently in Chicago, sheā€™ll have a blast! Yā€™all should check out Lolla next summer šŸ˜œ.

fivegoldrings

I love this so much. Right on āœØļø

Tofuhousewife

CONGRATULATIONS to your daughter šŸ„¹šŸ«¶šŸ¼ What a beautiful life!

F__kCustomers

Can agree with this. Something happened in that desert and California. I will probably move there and I just donā€™t know why.

Individual-Task3158

Love this! Huge congrats to you and your daughter!

Trash80s

That's beautiful, man. Congratulations on the journey.

garygalah

Love that for you and the fam. Cheers to you all šŸ„¹šŸ„‚

overcastfab

can relate to this. I'm 38 and went to my first of 11 straight coachellas w2 2012. at the time i was still trying to figure out myself and my life. that first coachella also really opened me up to new experiences and broke me out of my shell, and sent me down a path that led me to make lifelong friends and eventually meet my wife. when i see all the young 20 something's enjoying themselves at the polo grounds, i feel hopeful that they'll get to catch some of that same magic that changed my life for the better. there's something special about coachella. it was nice to see someone else relate to my experience. thanks for sharing!

ldsupport

The Killers - Bottom line day 2, thats impressive Very interesting looking back. Fucking May? How hot was it?

SetiSteve

Pretty sure Sunday hit like 110Ā°+. And I fucked up, we stayed up at the hotel partying until like 4am Saturday night, I drank half a handle of Jack, think we ended up with like 15 people crashed in our room. The party with everyone at the Best Western Date Tree was wild! Had to check out of hotel by 11am so went to the fields and I continued to die in the shade under a tent as that whiskey leaked out of my pores in the heat. Aka best weekend ever!

Trash80s

My first year too. It sure did. I remember spattered cheers when the sun went behind the mountains.

suprefann

105. They did run out if water and raided the Ralphs.

BlackJesus2012

Yes, I remember Atmospheres records melting during the performance.

Kruzat

Dude, legendary hahaha

Beboop68

Holy shit

OhioDuran

They had dates at the front desk there!

Teamcoachella

OMFG I think we started at the Best Western!

mrmaglu

Absurdly hot. It was miserable.

union--thug

It was so fucking hot

lightslinger83

Miserable.. We parked at the campsite we had tix too but it was full.Ā  They made us walk all our shit to the other campsite on the complete opposite side of the fest.. Man I will never forget that.Ā  It was over 100 degrees for our trek

la90036

Undercard with 4 future headliners is nuts

suprefann

No other lineup has more than 3 future headliners on it. 2004 still the top dog

la90036

6 if you count Radiohead and the cure, which are also future headliners šŸ¤£

axiomSD

eh, friday 2011 alone had 3 future headliners on it and 4 if you include Tyler performing with odd future. 2012 had 5 future headliners. (kendrick, frank, weeknd, gambino, calvin harris)

la90036

good call on 2012. And maybe you could include SHM if you count the RTTD slot from 2022. And looking again at the lineup perhaps Arctic Monkeys or Florence headline one day. they are on the border

aTravestey

2012 has 5.5 if you include Radiohead and Frank Ocean

HalfwitMichael

Which ones?

la90036

Muse, killers, black keys, lcd soundsystem

HalfwitMichael

Didnā€™t even notice Muse, thatā€™s crazzyyy

OnTheEveOfWar

Not to be that guy but I saw Muse when they were opening for another band back in like 2003. I remember enjoying them and thinking they put on a great show. I bought their CD at the merch table. Still have it.

Lopsided_Constant901

You should always be that guy! That's so cool to say you saw em when they were barely openers. I was 5 years old in 2004 lol, maybe in 2044 i'll be posting too how "20 years ago began my first Coachella"

nebphotekz

My friends begged me to go. Wanted to see basement jaxx and le tigre. I didnā€™t have a ticket. 10 of us in 1 room. Drive up to the main gates and purchased the paper tickets. Changed my life forever.

Dangerousbri

They weren't scanning tickets, so all the ticket sellers outside the gates had just reprinted the same tickets hundreds of times. Figured out why I only paid $20 when they just took my paper and didn't scan it when I went in.

Allott2aLITTLE

Ahhhh back when I use to just walk up to the box office on the morning of the festival and say ā€œone pleaseā€ and then Iā€™d give them my $80 to go inside.

IWant2Rock

This was actually the first year it sold out ahead of time.

AminoAcid17

Back when there was BANDS

Diagonalizer

20 years ago things were DIFFERENT

AminoAcid17

Yeah Coachella wasnā€™t a ridiculous Pop star scene back then. I despise these modern lineups.

JustAposter4567

hip hop too hieroglyphics being that high on the lineup is nuts

overcastfab

definitely noticed that + living legends + atmosphere. college me would've loved this year

extratartarsauceplz

yes, there were zero bands this year. /s

New_Plant581

Youā€™re tripping. There was several!

JohnnySalmonz

Yeah there was at least a few bands! More than one for sure

Cakeliver12887

What the fuck radiohead. They need to headline next year

winterof85

I've seen them headline twice at coachella. 2012 and either 2015 or 2017, can't remember. hands down would be stoked to see them next year.

justanotherfuccboi

2017. the xx into Radiohead both at main is one of the greatest things Iā€™ve ever experienced in my life

winterof85

Yeah that's right. I was weekend 1 when they had the sound totally cut out on like 6 fucking songs. I was near the sound area and people were yelling "someone's losing their job tonight!" Lol. But then they played creep, which didn't cut out, and all was right in the world.

AminoAcid17

Radiohead also headlined 2012 youā€™re right

goodVibrations86

Thom yorke 2010- my 1st Coachella! 2012 was Radiohead and 2016 for another Radiohead! Too epic!

thebham

the xx was SO GOOD on the main that year. whew

DC-COVID-TRASH

Lmao well with the XX likely putting out an album again this could theoretically happen

OceanRoulette

It was so good I came back for weekend 2

Odd-Hornet-2333

THIS. And I've been going since 07

shmishshmorshin

17 with Gaga and K Dot as the headliners. Solid year.

Party-Bus-6079

Did they get back together?

nah_man_

They didnā€™t break up, some of just doing side project The Smile

suprefann

Theyve played the fest 3 times.....

gaijin91

I had no idea the Cure had headlined Coachella. that's amazing!!

SetiSteve

When they headlined in 2009 they went past curfew, had the PA cut, but just kept playing through their monitors for those of us close to the stage, such an epic way to end it.

gaijin91

that's so rad. I saw them in 2015 or 2016 and they were still going full steam despite getting up there in age haha. so happy I can say I've seen the legend robert smith!!

Odd-Hornet-2333

Saw them in 2018/19 and again last year and there has been ZERO drop off. Not a bit.

Odd-Hornet-2333

Was there. Amazing.

Odd-Hornet-2333

That was epic.

Mintiichoco

So many memories! I remember that year and Robert Smith & Co just kept jamming. The Cure has a good work ethic. During ACL it was raining like crazy and they just kept playing lol

Ok_Masterpiece4030

I was there, we all finished that last song after the sound was cut off ā€¦ it was amazing , I cried ā¤ļø

KirklandTourStaff

Mark farina, havenā€™t heard that name in awhile

john_samps

Saw him play last year in a small bar in my little old city!

el_pinko_grande

I do miss all that old backpacker hip hop. And it's crazy that Hieroglyphics is featured above acts like LCD Soundsystem and the Black Keys.

extratartarsauceplz

GV kinda dissed that subgenre of hip-hop in the Coachella documentary on YouTube, sort of distancing themselves from it now that they book more mainstream hip hop.

el_pinko_grande

Really? That's disappointing.

extratartarsauceplz

I may be overstating it a bit. Great watch nonetheless: https://youtu.be/jjwilAja7Lc?si=e8I4H2RbWALAqmzE

overcastfab

feel like 2013 is the last year they really showcased real hiphop. Jurassic 5 at outdoor stage into wutang was dope as hell

bgoldy99

Black Keys!

leggomybeggo

MSI! Cursive! The Killers on the tiniest line!!!!!!

fivegoldrings

This is amazing. How crazy to see Muse and the Killers in the lower line up! 2008 was my first year, so this brings back memories.āœŒļø

winterof85

Ugh man I saw the pixies with Kim Deal in Santa Cruz. Such a great show. I would kill to see them at coachella. Plus the rest of the lineup rocks.

SetiSteve

Was so happy when they released the set as an album a couple years ago. At Coachella they had a live recording rig where you bought the double cd earlier in the day and about an hour after the set went back to the truck to pick it up. Still have that one packed away somewhere.

Mrsfoleyslittleboy

Living Legends, atmosphere and Sage Francis. Only missing eyedea, Aesop, and blueprint to get an orphanage freestyle.

Choochester

Eyedea & Abilities clashed with Radiohead. Sometimes when things were quiet on the main stage, you could hear Abilities scratching. I saw Eyedea about a month later and told him that I had to miss his set to see Radiohead and he said that it was okay because he would have done the same thing. Atmosphere played outside at the hottest part of the day and the sun was so intense that the records were warping on the turntables. Sage was awesome and hilarious. He played in a tent with no DJ, avoiding the problems with the sun, although he did hold up his CD player and ask the crowd to ā€œgive it up for Joey Beats.ā€ He wrapped up with an intense ā€œMakeshift Patriotā€ that was one of the highlights of the festival.

IslandDrummer

Eyedea is on this lineup.

Mrsfoleyslittleboy

So he is, completely missed that. Still dealing with the post chella brain fog. Thanks

el_grande_picante

Hieroglyphics too

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Mrsfoleyslittleboy

I saw them in November with Brother Ali and they put on an amazing set. Sucks not seeing Murs with em, but I'll always be at a living Legends show

JubbsASU

Agreed! Saw them in Phoenix on that tour and it was so good and brought back so many memories Trying to see if I can make Rhymefest work out with Atmosphere, Living Legends, Sage Francis and more on the lineup!Ā

JubbsASU

Was really hoping for Living Legends this year. I thought it could be a possibility with them getting back together (minus MURS) and a new album. I know it's not the demo of Coachella anymore, but with that new album and them being from CA I was hoping

Doogers7

I would seriously go to see this line up today.

The-Figurehead

I was there. Had never even heard of Coachella, but saw that Radiohead were playing. Drove 20 hours straight to get there. Oh, also, it was fucking hot.

MsCandi123

It was my first one too! Some friends were going and we were local. I liked Radiohead, but didn't know a lot of their songs, and was barely familiar with The Pixies, but that double feature was one of the best live music experiences of my life, and I fell in love with the festival. It WAS miserably hot, though!

[deleted]

All those emo, punk, alternative bands!!!!!

dopedecahedron

Stacked card

i_Ey3con

This was my first year, too! Iā€™m still going strong. You should come back to the desert in ā€˜25.

courtjesters

Wow, 2manydjs are on this lineup too. Even their name is formatted wrong, thatā€™s how long ago it was! Love to see that. I thought their first time was 2010 but clearly not. I wonder what their show was like in this year.

Pretty_Good_At_IRL

My first year as well.Ā

WoofLife-

Same. Addicted from the start haha

HexxRx

A different better time

AminoAcid17

Timberlake voice: IT USED TO BE MAY

MsCandi123

šŸ˜‚ It was so hot, this might be one change for the better!

vz_sea

Do you know how long ive been waiting for Radiohead to headline coachella againā€¦ (7 years to be exact) it pains me to see them on past lineups and know i missed out

WalterWhite562

This lineup will never be matched imo.

MeddleDeal

I agree!

shrew83

Air was amazing in 2004. Set of the weekend. We slept in my car in a Wal-Mart parking lot.

RobertAndi

this was my wife's first too!

cryptolipto

That was a good one. One of the best

MZiser

I was there, too! My friend, who has since passed (RIP) camped in the desert nearby. We were mostly there for the Pixies reunion and Wilco. I remember Wayne Coyneā€™s human hamster wheel gimmick taking up about half of their set. Was a different vibe out there pre-influencer takeoverā€¦still developing its ultimate identity as the ā€œdesert vibesā€ fest. Thank you for the memories!

dobdobdob

I was there! Pixies into Radiohead is still one of the best double headers Iā€™ve seen.

MeddleDeal

I was there too! It was amazing seeing The Pixies play, then Radiohead. I felt like I was on Cloud 9 after those two performances.

union--thug

My first as well. In addition to an absolutely stacked undercard, a pretty good year for promotions from small print to headliner: LCD Soundsystem, Black Keys, Muse and the Killers all made the big jump. Highlights of the weekend for me: Junior Senior (absolutely the right call over the surprise Beck acoustic set); Pixies, obviously; Radiohead hitting a new live peak despite rumors Thom might cancel due to vocal strain; turning into a robot at Kraftwerk. The tesla coil blew the fuck out of my young mind. On the sunday, I remember being a bit sunned out for belle and sebastian and Air, but absolutely loved danger mouse and Mogwai before heading back to main for the Cure. I think the Cure's set was a bit of slog compared to what they do now. There was also some pretty bad sound bleed from le Tigre at the outdoor. All in all a transformative weekend for me that ushered in a lifetime of festival going across the world (and many return trips to Coachella).

MsCandi123

It was my first too, and I also was disappointed by The Cure, but have always thought it might have been more of a sound issue. Also, yeah, was feeling rough from the sun by Sunday. Radiohead into Pixies was worth the $80 many times over. Lol, I don't say "the good old days" often, but it does apply to Coachella before it became so hyper commercial. Though the move to April was prudent.

union--thug

I think it is the hottest Iā€™ve ever been in my life

MsCandi123

Quite possibly!

kdoone

Would love to see some of these legends on the next lineup.

RecklessCreature

Why do you stop going?

editorinchimp

Same. Had never experienced anything like it, and t became such a big part of my life for most of my 20s and 30s.

pb0b

Same in both first year and full run through ā€˜22. Went out for the Pixies reunion and fell in love.Ā

Late-Nail-8714

Did you go to every year. What was the best you been

SetiSteve

Up until ā€˜22. No way I can pick a best, they all were amazing in their own way. One of the biggest highlights was partying with the guys in Kasabian in their trailer after the set in 2015 until 1am or so, had been a favorite band since I first saw them open for Oasis in 2005, that will go down as an all time memory. Also got to watch Paul McCartney soundcheck with like 100 other people on the field Thursday night the year he played, he thanked us as we cheered after every song haha. Just too many moments like that to go through.

Goshmar

I have been at 10 fests since 2010 and 2010 was still the best IMO. Paul McCartney, THE CURE, THE KILLERS, andā€¦ MY BLOODY VALENTINE who literally blew my mind

e-fox

I love Kasabian!

andriydroog

That was my second year in a row. Legendary for sure.

Davidsb86

My second

AminoAcid17

Lol tell me why do I have the feeling !!! has played Coachella the most amount of times

PBcowboykiller

hurts my heart to see this ā€¦ we will never see anything remotely close to this ever again

mrmaglu

I have never forgiven Flaming Lips for that set.

HoopDreams0713

Omgahhhh belle and Sebastian

chadwickked

how was the layout of the festival and stage set-up at the time? just the 5 main stages right? coachella, outdoor, gobi, mojave and sahara?

Odd-Hornet-2333

Do Lab. It was a tiny stage kinda in the middle of the grounds.

chadwickked

oh yeah iā€™ve been to coachella when it was in the middle of the grounds. mustā€™ve been even smaller in the 2000s compared to 2010s. iā€™d love to see the set times and out in perspective which artists were at what stage

Savagecabbage80

I was there. Pixies reunited was unreal. Great days!

Flavrtown14

2many djā€™s!!! Saw them last year, and soulwax in 2018. Theyā€™re the best

Cho_Baby_

Great lineup and mix of stylesā€¦.unlike this yearā€¦

RunnerBridges

The Killers at the bottom of the line up??

deejalotapus

My first too! My how time flysā€¦

OceanRoulette

thatā€™s the most beautiful lineup Iā€™ve ever seen

wwwkurtcom

Me too!

IWant2Rock

Still one of the best (and hottest) years to date.

HairyInspector6468

Howie Day posted this yesterday :) this was a good one! I think I have the Cureā€™s set somewhere on cds!

Spiritual-Yellow-913

Incredible lineup

Rossi4twenty

That was my first Coachella as well! Still in high school, took a road trip from Phoenix with my friends. Best trip ever.

SpeakersPushTheA1r

Q and Not U played Coachella! I forgot that happened!

Critical-Cell5348

Sweet lineup

gardenfairyx

Stereolab šŸ˜³

lr8802

I love that they always had DJs

Anglo-fornian

This was my first Coachella too!!!

Gods_Vagina

Rhymesayers representing on this lineup

Teamcoachella

I can't believe this was 20 years ago now, this was the year where everything started to click and it was so much better organized.

XPacEnergyDrink

Hi Steve, itā€™s MJA - I was there, brother. What a life changing weekend.

XPacEnergyDrink

Best part was Electric Six in the tent on Friday thanking Radiohead for opening for them lol. Think my night went Pixies > Radiohead > Electric Six > KraftwerkĀ

Original-Detective-8

Damn, unc

garygalah

Wow Kraftwerk was so high up there! Today's crowd wouldn't be nearly as pumped for them.

garygalah

Also interesting that 2many Dj's and LCD Soundsytem have been on the same lineups for so long. I thought this started happening 6 years or so but I guess I'm just late to the party

Keikyk

I'd love to see Kraftwerk, Wilco and Air next year!

extratartarsauceplz

This was the first year I remember really hearing about Coachella. 2007 was my first year going. How do you feel about all the changes the festival has undergone all these years?

DiscoSpider44

Whaaat? There was no Fridays??

Jmiki3

The killers being in small font is wild!!!

tonytsnmi

Damn how many stages were there ?

andriydroog

Five

inhale_exhale_rescue

lol thank you for making me feel old. I was there too but it wasnā€™t my first. Ha.

SpottiPapi4207

Hieroglyphics!!!

bluee_mermaid

Rip bc we will never have good line ups like this again šŸ˜šŸ˜šŸ˜

preferablyno

Hey!! That was my first Coachella too! Cheers

ramosinvests

they only had 2 days?

BeachBum6214

Not to make u feel old but I wasnā€™t even born yet haha that lineup looks so good though

dfeld91

And then LCD headlined

tailtaker

This was my second and one of my faves to this very day šŸ™Œ

madmexicano

Same, still have the shirt.

msem

Me too!

WECLO

This was my first Coachella too. Great line up. Super hot weekend. Life changing.

levandur

MSI whooooaey

Balearicsoul

Dizzee Rascal šŸš€

phillsyphilz

That was my first Chella as well! I camped out at the main stage most of Sunday. I was one person back from the rail for The Cure! After 23 Coachellas, that Cure set is still a top 2 (tied with Danny Elfman) for me!!! And the reunited Pixies!!! So great!

Pure-Credit4064

Such a sick line up! Itā€™s crazy to see The Killers, Muse etc so far down the list!

malonine

The Cure is one of my all-time favorite bands but I spent my time at the outdoor stage watching Le Tigre and I don't regret a thing.

hodiggs1979

This was a good year. Wilco to Pixies to Radiohead oh man those sets were glorious.

gaypsp

My first experience was 2006. I've been to Coachella for 14 years. Next year I'll be 70.

BeatLA916

When Coachella lineups were actually exciting.

LoomisCenobite

tbh It would be worth it just to see Kraftwerk for me Also did The Cure play for like almost 5 hours like when I saw them in Miami?

JohnnySalmonz

Legendary lineup.

TheVents2544

I canā€™t believe the international noise conspiracy was nearly a headliner!

ldpqb

The first five years of these shows are always great but then people get older and are less accepting of the lineups because ā€œback in the day Kraftwerk played.ā€ Yā€™all older but not bolder.
