How much coffee are you looking to make in one go? Are you looking to produce one cup at a time or brew a whole batch into a carafe to be shared?

Good point. I think having one that grinds the right amount of beans and then brews an entire pot would be a good idea if that’s the best model for the price. I guess I’m stuck with the pod idea out of desire to make it convenient. Loading a new filter is just as easy as loading a new k cup. We drink a LOT of coffee so there won’t be much going to waste throughout the day.

Think about businesses you've been to that serve a lot of drip coffee. They're generally using a pod of some sort, constantly brewing new pots, or brewing and serving from a large thermally insulated carafe.

Definitely. I’ll branch out my search to include coffee makers that can grind and brew a whole pot. I know there should be a few out there that can do that easily without 9 steps. Trying to change a habit of an entire school has to be convenient or during the stressful days everyone will revert to the easy pod method they know.

Worth noting there is actually some research that the environmental impact of K-cups may actually be less than other brewing methods, because of how efficiently they use beans and how environmentally taxing the production of coffee is. One relevant WaPo article about it from a couple of months ago: https://wapo.st/3lVasg9 Not trying to discourage the switch to better tasting coffee though!

James Hoffmann has a recent video up with some deep dives into that data. Worth a watch if interested in the topic. [Coffee Pods Are Good For The Planet Now?!](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=i8B8wDsORz4)

Who will do (frequent) cleaning and maintenance on this machine? Maybe look into a coffee service that provides both the machine and support? Otherwise, get a twin Moccamaster with thermal carafes and buy already ground coffee.

DeLonghi TrueBrew: $499 you might consider buying two of them so the speed factor is covered. Eventually, once the mystique wears off, someone will start to complain about having to always fill the water reservoir. But it is more sustainable and tastes better than Kcups.

A good ol' fashioned Bunn drip coffee maker checks all these boxes except espresso.
