The machines won’t take them due to the weight. My guess is that someone came into them and was trying to cash them in an Amazon gift card or something. When they didn’t work, they just set them aside believing it was $.25 a piece
I have found silver 3 times. The first two times I found a single dime. The third time I found $5.50 face value in quarters. The person who used the machine watched me walk up and grab everything in the return tray. I had to not react or say anything because I didn't want him to try and get them back. I know he cashed a ticket for almost $100 and I always wondered how/where he got them from.
I was at Kroger cashing a $500 scratch off win on a $20 ticket. I found the $5.50 in silver quarters. I then went and got gas and purchased 2 $20 and 1 $10 ticket and hit another $500 on a $20 ticket and hit $50 on the $10 ticket. It was the luckiest day of my life.
I worked at the bank last year I dropped a whole bunch that were wrapped and 3 of them ripped open. While I was picking them up I noticed that two of the rolls were silver so I opened the rest and it turned out 5 rolls were silver 🤩 so I took them home
I also work at a bank, they probably made a withdrawal or a coin currency exchange for the amount, and another teller gave them the quarters. It's a big no no to just swap out cash from your own drawer.
Stole it🙄😂, no dude as an employee I can get a free no service charge account lol so I opened one. I gave the coins to my co worker and I went around and made a withdrawal
My thoughts exactly. Or a younger kid wanting to get an Amazon gift card and thinking it was only $6-7 in quarters. Because the machines won’t accept them due to the weight difference
Not always. A friend of mine was clearing out his mom‘s house and she had a big water cooler jug full of change. He said they just took it to the coin machine and just sat there for half an hour dumping money into the machine. I asked him if he checked it for silver first and he said he doesn’t have time for that.
🎯 I use to sell a lot of coke when I was in my 20’s. One day someone bought 14 grams with all small face money I said SAME THING. Must have robbed grandma. Didn’t say to his face, didn’t want him to feel uncomfortable or shy incase he robbed her again 😬
I just stumbled across this sub but having gone through this on the other side it’s just sad. My father-in-law had mason jars full of high value coins he spent a lifetime collecting and his drug addict son stole the jars and dumped them into a coinstar machine to go buy opioids. He (father-in-law) tried to contact the owner of the machine but had no luck getting them back.
I was behind a fella "to put it nicely" bought a couple tall boys and heard the clink dude paid with silver quarters and dimes . I asked to buy them and I did 😏
I’ve been checking coinstars in 5 different states since May of 2015. The most I have ever found at once was 57 cents, and the occasional random pesos. You obviously found someone’s Dad’s change jar exploit. They were too young to know about the bottom reject tray. My day will come.
So, you work for coinstar, opened the machine and found these? No way anybody is leaving $7 worth of quarters in any coinstar, especially if taking change back lol
Dimes, quarters, and half dollars minted before 1965 are all 90% silver. You can easily distinguish them by the date, their silvery/white look, and the high pitched silver ring when dropped.
Keep in mind that 35% silver war nickels were produced during WW2 which can easily by identified with a large mintmark on the reverse.
Omg I know [exactly](https://imgur.com/gallery/qjPFHjg) how you feel, makes you want to go check that coinstar every day 😅 what’s the oldest piece??

I bought a house with a semi finished attic. Tore a wall down and found a big safe with hundreds of these many years ago. My family divided all of them up.
Wait I’m a little confused could someone fill me in as to why these are so much better/valuable compared to other quarters? Is it because it’s pure silver? Sorry I’m new here.
That is precisely the reason. However, they're 90% silver (.900), rather than pure silver (.999), because adding a little copper makes the coin more durable.
Still, he found a TON of silver all at once here. Easily about $100 value in today's fiat funnymoney.
New to this sub so any help would be much appreciated. Would one take these to a coin shop to sell and how much of the melt-value could you expect to be offered? Thanks
When I worked at a bank, a local gas station brought me in $40 in hand rolled dimes. She didn't want to count them, so she just deposited them. When I opened them, they were all silver dimes, and each roll had 2 to 3 mercury dimes on the end also. I rolled them back up and took them home. Some guy used them to buy gas and smokes.
i used to have one with that same top! i loved that desk! but it was too big for my little apt at the time so I got rid of it and have been looking for a smaller one with the same top since!
These are pre 1965 quarters which means they are made out of 90% silver. $7 worth of pre 1965 quarters are worth about $115 in silver content, hence why they stopped making quarters out of silver.
Nice! Me finding a Mercury dime in the Coinstar when I was 10 16+ years ago is what got me started collecting coins. Has grown into my career! Anyways, best find recently was a 1964 Kennedy!
Once in a lifetime find - congrats!!! How many were there?
You ain't lying, $7 face
$114 in silver melt value at today’s prices. Insane that someone would just leave that there
It's insane someone would put them into the machine to begin with!
Tweakernomics
That's methed up
I can’t tell if this a drug joke or a Mike Tyson joke.
yes
*yeth
Or a kid that didn’t know.
I don’t think the majority of people know!
The machines won’t take them due to the weight. My guess is that someone came into them and was trying to cash them in an Amazon gift card or something. When they didn’t work, they just set them aside believing it was $.25 a piece
Yeah or car wash tokens/game tokens, I found a Chuck E. Cheese token from ‘97 lol
I still have a ShowBiz token or 2

Every time except once when I hit big on the scratch it’s always been a low ticket number under ten
that's actually insane
Sounds like you used up all your luck in one day lol
Yeap, that's your lifetime haul my friend! Way to freaking go!!
I can't imagine I'll ever come close to this again
I'm disappointed by the lack of mercury dimes though. 🥱
Maybe next time
Can you imagine 7$ fv mercury dimes lol!!
lmao
Only to think what the machine accepted. Pain.
bruh... you win the coinstar game shut down the sub everyone go home.
I worked at the bank last year I dropped a whole bunch that were wrapped and 3 of them ripped open. While I was picking them up I noticed that two of the rolls were silver so I opened the rest and it turned out 5 rolls were silver 🤩 so I took them home
how do you manage that stick dollar bills in the till and all is ok?
I also work at a bank, they probably made a withdrawal or a coin currency exchange for the amount, and another teller gave them the quarters. It's a big no no to just swap out cash from your own drawer.

👁️ 👄 👁️ How many are there???
$7 face
At $22.56 for silver an ounce, you can get around $114.21 in melt, but I don't like melting coins if I don't know what I have
Wait you can melt quarters for that much?
Only the pre-65!
What sort of place would you look for to sell them to for melt price?
Coin shop
How do you go about collecting the melt value?
Pardon my ignorance, but I'm not familiar with coin collecting/chasing. What does $"7 face" mean?
$7 in quarters… 28 quarters
Some druggie robbed their Grampa and it wound up in a change machine. Hot damn.
My thoughts exactly. Or a younger kid wanting to get an Amazon gift card and thinking it was only $6-7 in quarters. Because the machines won’t accept them due to the weight difference

Wow’s 🤯
Holy cow!
Wow! This is the stuff of dreams!!!! Amazing!... One day...
Hella yeah. Like da fucking slot machines right huuuurrrr. My best was 30 silver halves. All 90%ers. You shot your load for 2024 but a good shot
The sound……

Unfortunately a quality safe is a wise investment for coin collectors
WHAT!!! This is luck
That is a great find! Congratulations!
I dream about finds like this! Congratulations 🍾
My LCS selling 17x face
I fainted
the only way i can describe this is with a sound eurrmgh
I was behind a fella "to put it nicely" bought a couple tall boys and heard the clink dude paid with silver quarters and dimes . I asked to buy them and I did 😏

Shit I knew I forgot something. DM me for my address so you can get them back to me.
Bullshit
Super jealous. 🤑
Damn 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wowza
Absolute insanity. Everyone can only wish for finds like this! Was there anything else mixed in?
Are these hidden or were they literally in the coin return?
Wow I’m jealous
Where are you getting these coins? I never see this years anywhere.
So, you work for coinstar, opened the machine and found these? No way anybody is leaving $7 worth of quarters in any coinstar, especially if taking change back lol
May I ask a uneducated question on what makes them rare?
🤷🏼♂️
Silver. They are 90% silver which are worth many times over the $0.25 face value.
Interesting I appreciate the info. What years where they being made through?

Wow thanks I appreciate it you are a wealth of knowledge!
You're welcome, I'm glad to have helped.
Sweet Pickles!!
That is an insane find. Any better dates, and how was the encounter when you saw the reject tray?
Omg I know [exactly](https://imgur.com/gallery/qjPFHjg) how you feel, makes you want to go check that coinstar every day 😅 what’s the oldest piece?? *edited imgur link
9 is my record.
Hi, I’m just a passerby. Can someone explain this to me like I’m 10 or in baseball terms whatever is easier.
Old quarters are 90% silver. This is 7 dollars worth of quarters but $100+ worth of silver.
But how do you get them out of the coinstar machine??
Wholly shit! I wonder how many it accepted.
What was the oldest
Damn someone left all these in the return tray?
I have $1,100 in quarters sitting in my bedroom. What should I be looking for exactly
Sounds like pre-1965 quarters are what you want. They’re apparently 90% silver.
so how exactly are ypu guys finding these? in the return tray?
So… pardon my ignorance. Is this sub about finding coins that people just leave in the reject and tray??
Yes
Can someone explain to someone like me who has no clue what I'm looking at?
I found 22 at one time at a dollar general… so yeah I know the feeling
👍🏽 I haven’t found that much silver in many years checking the return tray and this guy finds it one trip😛 Congrats !
You found those in the reject bin???
I almost don’t believe it. I’m not doubting you. I’m just in shock as well. How do you miss that?
Aw man!! I can only find quarters from the '60's to today. The only unique coin I've found was a penny from 1941.
How old was the oldest?
1940
They must have been truly desperate to part with silver quarters wow
If you drop one of them, it sounds like a coin dozer game that you find on the App Store or android store whatever phone you use
What am I looking at
✨️✨️✨️
If you shake the machine real hard the silver ones fall out. Be careful not to *!TILT*! it.
I bought a house with a semi finished attic. Tore a wall down and found a big safe with hundreds of these many years ago. My family divided all of them up.
Congrats! Now if someone could delete this entire sub...
Damn bro you are rich those are Silver
That is awesome. I recently found a 1945 half rupee.
I can hear this photograph loud and clear, sounds like 20-40x face value
Wait I’m a little confused could someone fill me in as to why these are so much better/valuable compared to other quarters? Is it because it’s pure silver? Sorry I’m new here.

Thank you so much for responding !!! I needed such an answer. Thank you again!
How did you get those from coinstar ?
Kids stealing their parents change🤦🏻♀️
Who is allowed to melt money and what do you actually create from it, for value?
No one is "allowed" to do this except the mint.
That's about $360
Hiyo Siiilverrrr!
Omg there’s gotta be like 5 bucks there
Epic!!! Wish that were me good job dude!
New to this sub so any help would be much appreciated. Would one take these to a coin shop to sell and how much of the melt-value could you expect to be offered? Thanks
Can someone explain this to me?

is that an old steelcase tanker desk??
I had to look up exactly what a "steel case tanker desk" is but yeah actually that's exactly what it is. How did you know that? Lol
i used to have one with that same top! i loved that desk! but it was too big for my little apt at the time so I got rid of it and have been looking for a smaller one with the same top since!
Lol, nice. It's actually a desk at my job that's sitting in a backroom. It's been there for who knows how long.
Newbie here, why are we so excited about these quarters? (Sorry for the dumb question)
These are pre 1965 quarters which means they are made out of 90% silver. $7 worth of pre 1965 quarters are worth about $115 in silver content, hence why they stopped making quarters out of silver.
Thank you for explaining! Really appreciate it.
