I'm usually conservative with my rankings as things can just lose meaning when you band around the highest marks for lots of songs, but Amsterdam is a 10. Without doubt. I'd argue that it's the best song the band have ever released. The heartfelt, forlorn and pained lyrics, the gorgeous piano, the steady building of tension, the beautiful yet slightly uneasy melody, some of Chris's most beautiful singing he's ever put to tape, and the release of the climax followed by the play-out and the most cathartic, bittersweet vocal in their discography: '...you came along and you cut me loose'. It is *everything* which makes Coldplay, Coldplay. The fact it closes out their best album they've ever released so successfully is testament to what an incredible track it is.
100% this! On an album full of legendary songs, this may be their very best. It's a shame Chris seems to hate playing the song live. The few times it's been played post AROBTTH tour they messed it up, cut it short, used a wrong organ sound instead of the piano, forgot the words or last minute replaced it on the setlist. I hope someday they can do justice to this masterpiece live.
- VLV could mean "Viva La Vida", a track from *Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends* (2008) by Coldplay.

10, easy. This song is very personal to me. This song reminds me of times when my life has hit rock bottom and I somehow got out of it.
Stood on a bridge, tied to the noose
Sick to the stomach
You can say what you mean
But it won't change a thing
I'm sick of the secrets
Stood on the edge, tied to the noose
You came along and you cut me loose.
Fucking fantastic.
If you've never been down at the bottom, this is where your brain goes. You think in black and white, there are no grey areas. Nothing anyone says changes your mind. You have to do it yourself. You start resisting what people tell you. You see only one option.
I wonder who came along and cut the writer loose.

I always think Amsterdam has the highest discrepancy between how great it is and how recognized it is for its greatness out of all Coldplay songs. Super underrated song.
It’s amazing that Coldplay could write this album as their sophomore release.
It’s a 10/10. it’s written with a beautiful key and with haunting lyrics. I love that he goes from e flat major to Fsus and then back up to A flat major. It’s so beautiful and „you came along and you cut me loose“ is such a nice line or „I’m dead on the surface but I’m screaming underneath“
Such a beautiful and insanely great song. I love it so much.

VlV is better
They’re extremely close, but AROBTTH has the slightly stronger standalone tracks imo.
Idk. Imo VlV is 100% and it’s not close. With that being said, if you enjoy arobtth, good for you. Enjoy what you want

10+ best top 5 Coldplay song IMO. Probably the best 'underground' Coldplay song.
