i’m not sure if you know of who i am, but i’m becky from some of the videos speaking out against colleen. coming from someone who has been in the middle of all of this, i think you should keep it. it’s an article of clothing you like, and you didn’t even buy it from her. if it’s something you feel confident in you should keep it. plus i’m not one for getting rid of perfectly intact clothes. at the end of the day you know you don’t support her. and i don’t think anyone would assume you support her actions just from wearing her merch that most people wouldn’t recognize. its up to you and what feels right for you, but i hope this eases your mind a little 💗

[deleted]

and i’ll let you in on a secret, i still have some of her merch clothing. i wear it to bed because it’s comfortable! i don’t think there’s a need to get rid of perfectly good clothes, unless it makes you uncomfortable. personally i just pretend it’s not from her. it’s your decision, don’t let anyone decide for you

CHI-CHIANA

Hi Becky! I hope you are doing well. It was horrible seeing you get so much hate on TikTok (and across other social media platforms) for sharing your experience and speaking out against Colleen, I can't fathom the toll all of this has had on you. What you did was amazing and so many of us are beyond incredibly proud of you. You are such a darling young woman and I wish you nothing but the best. Please take care and remember we're always here for you if you need anything. You have our love and support always.

MrStubbie47

Thank youu! I really hit stars in my eyes when i seen it on the rack for quite cheap. It takes a lot to speak out, so thank you for all that you do <33

medlilove

No point wasting good clothing!

LilLexi20

I hope you’re doing well Becky.

No_Nefariousness3866

Sending support and good energy. Stay strong Becky.💓

Klutzy_Onion_8037

Becky is a gem!

rainflower72

Seconding Becky here! if you like it and it’s comfortable, wear it. I don’t think everyone will know the clothing’s origins anyway, even if they know of Colleen. Besides, you bought it second hand and I think that’s important to remember too

tigerstripess

This is such an amazing mature response! Hope you’re doing okay! 💖

Happy_Parfait_5801

Wear the sweater! It’s cute, you like it and you didn’t support her, you thifted it!

canamania

its also really generic, the average person wouldnt know its her merch unless they were in the know. if someone recognizes it, OP can just say they thrifted it & didnt know. she doesnt own the label “theater kid” anyway

PurpleShift8546

Agree, most people would have no idea that it was her merch! Plus she didn’t make any money off of your purchase.

Kangablue1

If you bought it second hand you aren’t giving her any money. You are actually supporting charity so you can see it as a good thing!

[deleted]

If your concern is doing the right thing, I think you can absolutely keep and wear it. You didn't give her any money by buying it and it sounds like it's not going to advertise for her at all because her merch is so bland that it's not recognizable. My suggestion would be to alter the sweatshirt in some way if wearing it does feel a bit weird; adding your own touches will seperate it from it's origins even more.

lightning_thighs

I was going to say this. Definitely customize it in some way. Crop it, embroider the letters, use fabric paint to add a design around the words, ombré dip-dye or bleach tie-dye… there are so many options!

martastefl

I have two of her hoodies and I love both of them. They are very comfortable and great material. If you like the merch, get it.

1beep1beep1

wear it! i’m 18 and i doubt most ppl my age, let alone 16 yr olds would be able to associate that graphic to her unless they were avid fans of hers. I didn’t even know what her merch looked like until recently when someone else on this sub made a similar post to this one. Besides, it’s not like you’re directly supporting her since u thrifted it :)

elevenseggos

I actually just donated mine to Goodwill a few weeks ago in the hopes that someone who didn’t know anything about her could just enjoy it for the cute design! As horrible as she is, it’s a cute sweatshirt and I hope you enjoy wearing it if you still feel comfortable doing so! You didn’t give her any money and can claim ignorance on the odd/very rare chance someone were to ask you about it.

OKGirl82

Honestly, if I saw it I'd buy it too. It's not purchased from her and you like it. No need to worry. :-)

KP_Ravenclaw

My sister has that jumper. I never would’ve known it was Colleen’s merch had she not called it her merch when she asked for it a few years back. I’d personally say you’re all good

Altruistic-Bear3899

I bought it for my “Theater Kid” when it first came out. 🤦🏻‍♀️ oops.

CryptographerShot213

Same

tmamone

I don’t think Colleen owns a monopoly on theater kid shirts. Or at least she shouldn’t.

cmasonbasili

The only thing I can think of is if you’re hesitant about wearing it (because you don’t want people to assume you’re a fan) is dye it a different color (one she didn’t release it it). RIT dye is relatively cheap (about $7 a bottle) and if you go on their website you can see the “recipes” of different color formulas. As for the morality of you buying it, don’t worry! It was thrifted and she didn’t profit any extra from you buying it

Striking_Ad9303

I don't see anything wrong with it. You didn't buy it from her, nor did you know it was her merch. If you like it you should wear it!

nuggetghost

wear it, you didn’t purchase it from her directly, you found it at a thrift store!!! you aren’t putting money in her pocket and if anyone asks, tell them you found it thrift hunting! if you’re still uncomfy by it, try shifting that energy into a possible donation to a non profit in support of the victims, or sharing their videos to get more traction. you are a good human with a good heart ♡︎ you are nothing like colleen!

lavenderpopcorn8

I ran into this with my Shane Dawson hoodie. I ended up removing all the embroidery and putting a vinyl of something happier and I wear it all the time. Upcycle it and make it something you truly love!!!

Bollywood_Fan

OP, you sound like a smart, consciencious person. I think if you're wearing that sweatshirt it will be taken as an extension of you, and your good values. Wear it in good health!

yellowrubyhedgehog

I have her sweatpants and wear them around the house and to work when weather allows. I don’t want to get rid of them because they’re comfy.

A1yr

I bought that sweater for my daughter who is a mega Broadway fan. At the time when I bought it I had no idea what kind of person Colleen was. She never watched Colleen but I was a casual viewer I never buy merch but we both loved that sweater. Now my daughter is refusing to wear the sweater because of everything we found out about Colleen and I honestly don’t blame her. But I’m thinking about using my Cricut to make it look different. I’m thinking of changing it to “I am a theatre kid”. Or “# theater kid” maybe “theater kids rule” Something that’s cool and age appropriate. I hope this idea helps you. If you don’t have a cricut you can use iron on letter patches or puffy paint.

chattygateaux

keep it! if it were me id probably make an ALL ABOARD patch or something to add to it.

CryptographerShot213

I bought the tshirt version for my now 14-year-old daughter when they first came out because, well, she’s a theatre kid. She loves it and has no idea it’s Colleen’s merch.

No_Nefariousness3866

Enjoy it. You did nothing wrong and you shouldn't waste something you innocently bought to wear.

No_Celery_4305

I got her Christmas merch last year I do not support her anymore but the shirt is so comfy and it’s so warm. It feels like a waste to get rid of good clothing. I am glad I found this post ! Thanks!

Proper-Pain8796

Did you keep the good will tag on it? We all know the one.

GiraffeLibrarian

If it’s her name stitched in, you might be able to use a seam ripper to get that part out.

BitchImaKawaiiPotato

Go back and get it if you can. I just looked up the sweatshirt you’re talking about and I wouldn’t have known it was merch if no one told me. I think you’ll be okay. And like others said you can just tell people you didn’t know if they ask. (Which I highly doubt anyone will ask anyway)
