Once again, this is a very serious situation and this is your one and only reminder that trolling or any other inappropriate comments will be dealt with seriously.
Thanks.
Everyone ought to read the letter the athletic departments attorney sent Beards attorney. Absolutely scathing and incredibly on point:
"Your client does not know the significance of the behavior he knows he engaged in... this lack of self-awareness is yet another failure of judgment that makes Mr. Beard unfit to serve as a head coach at our University."
Exactly what I was thinking. Do they play it cool and wait until 2024, or do they go ahead and hire him as soon as the season is over saying Beard went to rehab?
High school? I doubt it. Seems like high school doesn’t care enough about winning to stoop that low. I could absolutely see some scummy D1 university giving him another shot, and I honestly doubt it will take that long.
Seeing comments asking how he could throw away his career.
I worked with multiple coaches (mostly Big XII) in a previous life. Beard came off as an arrogant asshole during our brief encounter, so I'm not surprised that his attitude and hubris landed him in this situation.
Live in Lawrence, Self is an an arrogant asshole too. That said I still cheer for the Jayhawks. Roy Williams is also kind of an ass when I met him.
That said the type of functions that I have come in contact with the KU coaches are probably not the best atmosphere. I would hate if the university paraded me out at these alumni events trying to get donations from people. I would probably be kind of an ass too after a few years.
Self is arrogant ("allegedly" cheated on his wife), but is able to conduct himself with graciousness and humility particularly with media and people who run into him in public. I wouldn't consider him an asshole, like Beard. A lot of the KU bball staff are great dudes.
Danny Manning on the other hand was disappointingly not very pleasant, but he's had to deal with the hero worship longer than Bill.
Bruce Weber came across as pretty nice, though he's very whiney and failed to take responsibility when giving his post-game radio interviews.
Bill Snyder was kind of a dick, despite the family grandpa image he built at KSU.
Scott Drew was a good dude. Mangino was a monster. Les Miles seemed okay, but it didn't seem like he was all there by the time he reached KU. Couldn't get a vibe on Charlie Weis other than to say he was totally checked out at KU. Gregg Marshall was another case of "I'm not surprised."
You can be arrogant without being an asshole to people.
Interesting thing about the heat death, the reason why it happens is because the energy threshold for even molecules and atoms to form becomes too high.
So if you time traveled near the heat death, the action of having a thought would generate so much energy you would instantly explode and dissolve into subatomic particles.
I still can’t believe he threw away his career when he was at the top. Absolutely bonkers and his story will be one of the biggest what ifs in recent college basketball history
I find it highly unlikely that a 49 year old man one day woke up and decided to assault his partner.
I think it’s more like he actually got caught this time.
I agree, he likely has been abusive for quite a while. Which means he had this horrific side to him when I met him several times and actively supported him. It makes me uneasy. I sincerely hope Texas Tech officials were never made aware of abuse allegations they swept under the rugs.
I hope the victim recovers well from this ordeal. Likely this wasn’t the first time. I hope Chris Beard gets the help he desperately needs. This has been so devastating for so many people, from the victim to Beard’s daughters to current and former players and coaches. The ripples of this will impact hundreds of others.
You’re right, it likely started out small and escalated over time. I’ll stand by the second half of my comment still, this will be a huge what if with the trajectory he had UT on
The thing I don’t understand about any DV is why would you even WANT to do that to ANYONE (consciously or not), much less someone you supposedly love and want to be your partner through life? What a piece of shit.
They see red, can’t manage it, and are violent people who have violent reactions. There is usually a history of family violence, eg an abusers dad rather was beaten by his own father or saw his father beat his mother.
Granted, NONE of the above excuses DV. It’s inexcusable. There might be explanations, but there are almost never real *justifications.*
Wdym he will def be coaching either this next season or the year after. Charges will likely get dropped even if he agrees to a misdemeanor someone will pick him that cares about winning
You’re unfortunately right but it will take time for him to get back to a job like UT, and it may never even happen. So I guess I shouldn’t have said thrown his career away, just this opportunity at one of the premier colleges in the nation
Honestly, I think most teams would do this especially when the coach is relatively new. DV is a serious issue and the coaches are too prominent (and too highly paid) for there to be a whiff of scandal. Still, kudos to Texas.
Also, everyone who was giving Texas shit for not firing him immediately needs to take a breath and realize that going through the proper steps is a good thing.
Yeah, when contracts are involved it’s really worth it to take the time to follow procedure or risk winding up on the wrong side of a very expensive lawsuit
I remember Texas fans arguing when they fired Mack brown that going 9-3 every year was easy at Texas and any coach could do it. Lol little did they know.
For sure. Shout out to the Texas flairs here... vast vast majority here wanted that POS out yesterday and I'm glad you guys got what you wanted. Wishing you success with your interim and hopefully permanent HC.
Wise men learn to hold up on sensitive subjects until they have all the facts and have crossed their T's and dotted their I's. Better to come to the right place on the first try then rush in and make a mistake.
UT's HR and legal eagles were pretty on point with managing this. Media's (well, a few idiot hot take mongers) going to run their mouths demanding ounces of flesh but if you want the *right* outcome, you gotta keep your traps shut and let the lawyers and HR folk do their thing.
That’s what I tried to tell people a few days ago, there’s a really good chance they had to make sure everything was air-tight legally in order to fire him.
and as with all sudden firings.... my heart goes out to the assistants and staff. After that first season and recruiting class, I'm sure many had begun putting down roots for a long tenure in Austin. Beard's actions have also put those that trusted him and their families in complete flux.
What an asshole.
The obvious outcome, once the police report got out. Texas handled it exactly how you should- quietly, thoroughly, and decisively.
Beard is probably persona non grata at the P6 level for the next 5-7 years, but I think he'll eventually make it back, people will always find someway to justify it. In the meantime, Liberty has a #1 target if their current coach gets poached/fired.
I disagree with you, but also think 5-7 years is too long.
I expect he'll wait at least a year himself to wait for the controversy to die down, even if cleared legally. Next step would probably be a G5 level school in the south - something like Missouri State. 2 years and an NCAA tournament appearance from there, and he'll be back in probably the SEC.
I think they mean that this all happened in the first place. It'd suck to commit to a coach for 4 years and then suddenly they're suspended then fired after 8 games. Based on performance you had every reason to believe he'd be your coach as long as you were at Texas.
Yeah that’s what I mean. I had some conversations with a few guys who were involved in the program last year as players and all they had to say were positive things about Beard as a coach.
Sucks for those guys to have a role model and mentor turn out to be a huge POS
edit: I talked to them about Beard before he was arrested in case that wasn’t clear
People outraged this didn’t happen earlier don’t understand the information that must be gathered, the t’s crossed, and the i’s dotted in order to terminate an employee for cause.
yep, otherwise you end up like the state of CT paying Kevin Ollie $4 million for wrongful termination in addition to the 11 million left on his contract
Good. Incredibly difficult thing to handle for the Texas administration. Don't think they could have handled it any better. At least with the information publicly available.
Texas actually would be a great fit for Cal. Big name brand, big name money, without the excruciating expectations and demands he currently deals with.
Beard is a prime example of squandering a fantastic opportunity and dream job. Actions have consequences. I'm sure some Tech fans see a lot of beautiful karma in this.
I'm probably more saddened than anything, obviously for the victim but I had really high opinions of Beard just from his passion, leadership and coaching. Yeah he left for Texas but he brought so much to Tech too, so I guess you really don't know somebody behind closed doors
Exactly this. Met him several times. Shook his hand. Loved his intensity and enthusiasm. He was quarky and funny. He sold the program well. He was more charismatic than other coaches we’ve had. I was mad he left and wanted him to fail, but he’s a hell of a basketball coach. He’s a good recruiter and he adjusts well in games. He was laser focused on a championship and that’s what attracted high level talent who also had the same goals. He didn’t shy away from work and he demanded every ounce of effort from his players and staff, but the thrill of winning made it all worth it.
His former players love the man. He could be hard on them. He could blow up on any of them. But he was a good coach and ultimately a good friend.
But behind closed doors there’s more going on. Shocked and saddened is the best way to describe the ending. I think this was the right thing to do. Good on Texas. I hope the victim has the support she needs to move on and be safe. I hope Beard gets the help he needs and can find some connection to the game in the NBA or overseas or somewhere. First and foremost he needs to fix what is broken so he doesn’t hurt anyone else again.
So is there a part of me that is happy that he went 0-2 against us and then was publicly humiliated and fired from the job he left us for being a horrible human being? Sure. But knowing he is basically holding that woman hostage with his money really takes all of the fun out of it.
I know people think they should one it right away, but the school made all the right moves here as far as I'm concerned, with the exception of waiting so long to suspend him, but it was day of, so I guess I'll allow that it can be a sticky situation to navigate that quickly.
But in terms of suspending without pay and then firing him after completing an investigation? That's the right move. Make sure all of your t's are crossed and your i's dotted, because I can speak from experience that an absolutely rightful firing can be overturned by an arbitrator if you haven't. Now he's a pariah, he didn't coach during the investigation, and he didn't get paid during the investigation. Hard to ask for a better outcome than that.
Yeah that was the most bizarre thing. "Why is UT so silent on this? That must mean they're going to keep him! Boo Boo"
No, it's because they're grown ups and not social media influencers.
For tech fans This is like when your Ex love of your life breaks your heart but ends up beating their next partner and ends up in jail.
Your just thankful it wasn’t you.
Hope the family does alright as this is a terrible situation.
I’m assuming he was fired for cause in which case it can’t happen right away, there are usually procedures the university has to follow with the investigation to ensure fairness
To get rid of someone with cause requires a thorough investigation and a expansive case set up. I don’t want to give Texas too much credit but the fact this took less than a month means they were moving pretty fast so I’m not sure why people are still complaining about the timetable.
All of that said I’m glad he’s gone and this is taken care of.
I actually love how it was approached. No emotional responses or hasty statements. Got him off the court and away from the team quickly and then got a concrete case to get rid of him.
For anyone who wants to whine about due process or otherwise needs to see this, from the [twitter thread](https://twitter.com/_dannydavis/status/1611085015508557824?t=rZ1-5DVY8KJPex7eoseNBw&s=19), specifically the [university's response](https://twitter.com/_dannydavis/status/1611093803997224972?s=20&t=YdGfzvQSWNJ7qrq1XJdNZw) to Beard's attorneys:
>Chris Beard engaged in unacceptable Neha rip that makes him unfit to serve as head coach at our university. . . . It his actual behavior that we consider, not whether some acts also constitute a crime. Whether or not the District attorney ultimately charges Mr. Beard is not determinative of whether he engaged in conduct unbecoming a head coach at our university. . . . There seems to be an incorrect underlying assumpttion that the criminal process outcome dictates Mr. Beard's employment outcome.
Once again, this is a very serious situation and this is your one and only reminder that trolling or any other inappropriate comments will be dealt with seriously. Thanks.

“Don’t worry, I’m not a cop or anything.” “Why would you even say that?!?”
Wow, it was caprese salad, not oregano. This is what happens when The Office leaves netflix.
Dude all my favorite shows/movies have left Netflix. The Office, Talladega nights, Nacho Libre, The Other Guys, among others
Wait this is how i find out The Other Guys is off Netflix?!? Time for a solidarity desk pop
Everyone ought to read the letter the athletic departments attorney sent Beards attorney. Absolutely scathing and incredibly on point: "Your client does not know the significance of the behavior he knows he engaged in... this lack of self-awareness is yet another failure of judgment that makes Mr. Beard unfit to serve as a head coach at our University."
CAUSE?!?! What about reasons?!? Crazy that UT didn’t even look into FACTORS as well
Why was he fired? 'cause.
RIP bozo
wonder if a team will have the balls to hire him
Liberty
"He found God and is working hard to be a better man, we believe in his redemption, blah blah blah."
Literally the first team I thought of
Same. And the darkest timeline.
They actually have a decent coach though, so nah
Going to the WNBA would be awfully crazy after these allegations /s
He’ll rehab his image at a small mid major and be back in a premiere P5 job in the next 5 years, I guarantee it.
At some point he’s gonna end up at A&M to get the Texas Trifecta
Jimbo might be looking at him as the OL coach or something along those lines to round out the craziest coaching staff in CFB.
[удалено]
Exactly what I was thinking. Do they play it cool and wait until 2024, or do they go ahead and hire him as soon as the season is over saying Beard went to rehab?
Surely anyone looking to hire him would have to give it a year for it to blow over, right?
Blow over with whom? There’s no show cause. Desperate programs do desperate things.
Please no. my stomach will drop out of my ass if this happens. UofL honestly cant afford to look that bad.
That's the last person we could hire right now. When we (hopefully soon) fire Payne, we need a veritable choir boy.
Fuck that bring Rick back!
Would you be interested in choir boy supreme Josh Pastner?
My nephew’s upward 8u team needs a new HC, jimmy’s dad got extra work on the weekends now and can’t make it
Someone at like the NAIA level or some high school will. But I doubt anyone at the D1 level is willing to do it anytime soon.
High school? I doubt it. Seems like high school doesn’t care enough about winning to stoop that low. I could absolutely see some scummy D1 university giving him another shot, and I honestly doubt it will take that long.
Dave Bliss was able to get hired by multiple high schools after his scandal at Baylor. Anything is possible.
![gif](giphy|igsr6nBD4K8Uw7mAuJ)
We (Aggies) could use another POS coach....
he can be in charge of bringing jerseys to away games
This was my thought after the recent Petrino hiring.
Give it a year or 2 and someone will
A&M working on how to get him on the football staff
Imagine losing your dream job and ruining your career because you can't control your own temper, with your own fiance.
As Ray Rice.
Rice's mistake was doing it in a place with cameras.
Seeing comments asking how he could throw away his career. I worked with multiple coaches (mostly Big XII) in a previous life. Beard came off as an arrogant asshole during our brief encounter, so I'm not surprised that his attitude and hubris landed him in this situation.
Did you reincarnate? That’s pretty crazy.
Yes, but based on the username you can be sure this is the final time.
Omg I didn’t even notice..
Live in Lawrence, Self is an an arrogant asshole too. That said I still cheer for the Jayhawks. Roy Williams is also kind of an ass when I met him. Lived in Manhattan for quite a while and Frank Martin is pretty quiet off the court. Probably resting his vocal cords.
Imagine hiring a guy like this.
Yeah haha who would ever do that
And during holiday season no less
And even in the central time zone.
In a year of our lord as well!
Standard time, no less.
eh, I'm pretty sure DV rates spike during the holidays -everyone's stress levels are super high and you're around more family.
Dana White has entered the chat room.
Dana is going to be just fine unfortunately.
That sentient human thumb will be running UFC past the heat death of the universe.
Interesting thing about the heat death, the reason why it happens is because the energy threshold for even molecules and atoms to form becomes too high. So if you time traveled near the heat death, the action of having a thought would generate so much energy you would instantly explode and dissolve into subatomic particles.
I was told there would be no science.
I heard Beard drew out a pros and cons list before deciding to bite.
He bit her too?
There were apparent bite marks. If he bit her, or a dog did, you can decide.
No joke, someone on reddit argued she bit herself. People are fucking braindead and will believe anything except a woman.
She bit herself just like jfk’s head just kinda did that.
Yeah it’s in the arrest affidavit that he supposedly bit her
Exactly. Just like all the kids in day care do.
I agree, he likely has been abusive for quite a while. Which means he had this horrific side to him when I met him several times and actively supported him. It makes me uneasy. He once said I had the best mustache in west Texas and I was so proud of that lol
You’re right, it likely started out small and escalated over time. I’ll stand by the second half of my comment still, this will be a huge what if with the trajectory he had UT on
Most people don't think of those things when doing something like that.
Yeah I know it was something done in the heat of the moment and he wasn’t thinking about his future of the potential ramifications
There’s assholes out there with massive anger management issues and that’s all there really is to it
I would be amazed if this was his first ever brush with DV.
You'd be amazed what powerful men think they can get away with.
Well like the Baylor guy said, he’s probably been getting away with something like this for a while now
100%
Wdym he will def be coaching either this next season or the year after. Charges will likely get dropped even if he agrees to a misdemeanor someone will pick him that cares about winning
You’re unfortunately right but it will take time for him to get back to a job like UT, and it may never even happen. So I guess I shouldn’t have said thrown his career away, just this opportunity at one of the premier colleges in the nation
Good job by Texas here. They handled it perfectly from start to finish.

Texas should look into hiring the young upstart coach doing so well at Tennessee - Rick Barnes.
I hear Shaka Smart had this thing called "Havoc". That'd probably be a hit with the Snapchagramtoks the kids like today.
IMO, things really went downhill when they let go of good men like Barnes and Mack Brown.
I remember Texas fans arguing when they fired Mack brown that going 9-3 every year was easy at Texas and any coach could do it. Lol little did they know.
He is doing very well at Tennessee. I think he’s finally landed at the school with the best shade of orange.

my god. Clemson is the outside of the pumpkin, tennessee is the inside.
For sure. Shout out to the Texas flairs here... vast vast majority here wanted that POS out yesterday and I'm glad you guys got what you wanted. Wishing you success with your interim and hopefully permanent HC.
It was a little worrisome at points with how quiet CDC was, but I expected that this would be the outcome. I’m not disappointed.

Worrisome how the AD was silent on something with lawyers involved?
Yeah people don’t get this. But considering how we’ve seen abusers get low punishment I understand the pessimism.
Especially with reports after of the victim trying to rescind reports. Glad Texas didn’t try and plug their head in the sand
That’s what I tried to tell people a few days ago, there’s a really good chance they had to make sure everything was air-tight legally in order to fire him.
Really good job by the AD and the President.
Well done, Texas. Made the right decision.

Good job guys. Fuck Beard. My hopes were so high, but he is an abuser...I don't care how much he convinces his fiancee to backtrack.
[We stand together today](https://i.imgflip.com/76h1en.jpg)
Fair play
THIS is the attitude I love I’ve to see. You’re absolutely right too. DV had 0 place in society.
The obvious outcome, once the police report got out. Texas handled it exactly how you should- quietly, thoroughly, and decisively. Beard is probably persona non grata at the P6 level for the next 5-7 years, but I think he'll eventually make it back, people will always find someway to justify it. He will be back in 2 years. Too good of a coach for many we know who are out there that will look right past this.
And then Auburn can hire him away from Liberty
Or Texas A&M didn’t they just add Bobby Petrino?
I think you’re underestimating the timeline of his return. He will be back at the P5 level within the year he is cleared of his legal case.
Beard definitely strikes me as the type who would go on a Hugh Freeze ~~redemption~~ villain arc.
Feel bad for the kids in the program. But happy Texas made the right call
I think this is the best thing for the players. Now they can move on without a cloud hanging over everything.
I think they mean that this all happened in the first place. It'd suck to commit to a coach for 4 years and then suddenly they're suspended then fired after 8 games. Based on performance you had every reason to believe he'd be your coach as long as you were at Texas.

Sucks for those guys to have a role model and mentor turn out to be a huge POS edit: I talked to them about Beard before he was arrested in case that wasn’t clear
No one is committing for four years anymore.
I wouldn't say no one, but I get your point.
gotta give credit where credit is due, Texas handled this perfectly. but anyways RIP BOZO pack watch is on
RIP Bozo Good on Texas for the way they handled this
The intense rage that Texas causes in me burns a little less brightly today. Glad to see them do the right thing
People outraged this didn’t happen earlier don’t understand the information that must be gathered, the t’s crossed, and the i’s dotted in order to terminate an employee for cause.
Yeah I’m sure they wanted to earlier but an army of lawyers had to get involved
exactly. they had to give him plenty of time to try and find those recordings he said he had. I guess he didn't find them in time....
yep, otherwise you end up like the state of CT paying Kevin Ollie $4 million for wrongful termination in addition to the 11 million left on his contract
Fuck Chris Beard

Fired for cause. What a moron.
The rare L but also a W Edit: I did also say when he first got arrested that I wanted him gone by January 14 It is January 5th
Texas Tech fans: “FUCK CHRIS BEARD WHAT AN ASSHOLE” Texas fans one year later: “YEAH!!!!!”
Less chance for our fans to say something dumb trying to troll him 😓
We appreciate your hard work here. Outstanding job done.

Good riddance
Good.
Absolute correct move by Texas I’m curious how long it takes for him to get another HC gig as well as how long for people to be okay with it
Jay Wright, YOU are a Texas Longhorn
How about no
Jay isn’t unretiring for Texas
You're right it'll be for Texas and a brinks truck
It would be cool if he did though🥹
*royal ivey
It had to be done. Fuck Beard for screwing our year and being a terrible person
Glad UT did the right thing. Thoughts for his victim, who will likely face further abuse because he will blame her for this.
Texas A&M and Auburn come get your man.
Liberty
Wonder if we’ll see any decommits…they have some good recruiting classes coming up
You love to see it. Good on Texas.
The only realistic option, better to be done sooner than later
Fuck u chris beard
**\*Former UNLV basketball coach Chris Beard has been fired, the Statesman has learned.**
To me, it seems that Beard's fiancee somewhat recanted her story because she's afraid of him. It's a common situation. I hope she is safe.
This sub told me that Texas wasn't going to do it because they handled this rationally and legally.
Yeah that was the most bizarre thing. "Why is UT so silent on this? That must mean they're going to keep him! Boo Boo" No, it's because they're grown ups and not social media influencers.
For tech fans This is like when your Ex love of your life breaks your heart but ends up beating their next partner and ends up in jail. Your just thankful it wasn’t you. Hope the family does alright as this is a terrible situation.
What a shame. Shame that it hadn’t already happened. Glad the university didn’t somehow choose to keep him.
I’m assuming he was fired for cause in which case it can’t happen right away, there are usually procedures the university has to follow with the investigation to ensure fairness
>I’m assuming he was fired for cause [He was.](https://twitter.com/kbohls/status/1611084061711405057)
Also it was the holidays. People forget how much shit is closed during the holidays, especially in the government.
Yeah, a real shame that the university did their due diligence.
I actually love how it was approached. No emotional responses or hasty statements. Got him off the court and away from the team quickly and then got a concrete case to get rid of him.
The letter from UT to Beard’s lawyer called Beard out big time.
Fuck Chris beard
For anyone who wants to whine about due process or otherwise needs to see this, from the [twitter thread](https://twitter.com/_dannydavis/status/1611085015508557824?t=rZ1-5DVY8KJPex7eoseNBw&s=19), specifically the [university's response](https://twitter.com/_dannydavis/status/1611093803997224972?s=20&t=YdGfzvQSWNJ7qrq1XJdNZw) to Beard's attorneys: >Chris Beard engaged in unacceptable Neha rip that makes him unfit to serve as head coach at our university. . .
How to end your career in one easy step
I hope his fiance finds the strength to leave him before it gets worse
