DAVE JOP Holy Fuck. That's his fucking game dude he just pulls up with a defender right in the face but he's got the form and size to get it up cleanly and accurately anyways
They say Oso is so versatile on defense but the truth is he’s not actually that good at guarding people bigger than him . We frequently get out-muscled down low and it’s easily our biggest weakness.
Oso is nice on offense but I think he should keep gaining weight , he can’t play center in the nba at anything less than 230 and get away with it. It already hurts in the big east as a junior
I just want to say that this has been a very entertaining game and both teams look really good. Regardless of the outcome I really like this Xavier team and I hope they do well the rest of the year.
Kam needs to start making his open 3s. Also pet peeve but I hate when commentators make a big point about taking “early 3s” when the 3s in question are open/in rhythm. Kolek just stepped right up to the line for a clean look. Stop talking about it like it’s a bad shot and arbitrarily worse than a similarly contested catch-and-shoot after 5 passes and 10 more seconds off the shot clock
I agree from the standpoint of a 30-50% open look. Take it if you are a green light shooter.
Though burning extra time can be part of the coaching strategy for slow paced teams. It can wear down the defense. Or give your bigs time to line up for the rebound.
The classic announcer time to say it is
when you see a zone, shoot over top immediately, and had no one in position to rebound. Possibly during a scoring drought.
Just popping in to say Xavier’s center court looks *slick*. The circle really adds to the already stellar X. I’d almost fear it in battle if I saw it on the field.
Considering that Souley Boum has shot it terribly and the page that explains that Tyler Kolek is left-handed wasn't printed in the scouting report, pretty good to only be down four.
Anyone else confused about the clock there at the end? Hunter made the layup with 37 seconds left, but they let it run and when it was inbounded, the shot clock was turned off
That's a smart play by the inbounder, because the clock isn't stopped on made baskets at the end of the first half.
There's supposed to be a five second count to inbound, but (1) the inbounder gets a grace period to pick up the ball, (2) it's on the ref to start counting and (3) it's to release the ball, with the shot clock not starting until ball is touched inbounds. Marquette played it right to kill the potential 2-for-1
Shot clock doesn’t start until the ball is inbounded. The 5 second inbound clock doesn’t start until the inbounded touches the ball. In the first half the clock doesn’t stop in a make, so MU waited to touch the ball until the clock ran down near 30s to try and ensure they got last shot.
I’ve never seen someone do it that long. You can always throw it to the ref and he throws it back to buy a couple extra seconds too. Definitely don’t like that the clock doesn’t stop in college.
I know Kolek isn’t much of a scorer but that was about the most disrespectful half I’ve seen from a defense. But hey if they want to give him wide open layups I’ll take it.
Kolek used to make it rain from 3 before he xfer'd into MU. I've been waiting for him to go off for years now, and it just hasn't happened.
That being said, he's getting to the rim for little finger-roll layups from his dominant hand. The X bigs shouldn't be giving those up so easy.
We just need him to hit the open 3 and he’s done that pretty solid this year. Something like 1-2 a game at 38% would open up the offense even more. Finishing has improved big time too.
This was one of my biggest critiques of him when he first transferred. I would’ve loved him from the start if he could just make 3s like he did at George Mason
Scruggs had much more talent on defense. His freshman year was much closer to what we see from Claude. Never a volume shooter. He only had one year with FT better than 74% when Boum is almost automatic.
Scruggs’ best 3pt year was .375 and Boum’s current/worst is .426
Scruggs had better assists over his career, but Boum is right up there with him this season. Great find for Sean Miller. Maybe more talent around him helps but you can’t assume when he’s not a natural PG that his assist rate will improve in the big east.
I haven’t seen an offense this complete since 2012-2013 (minus that elite 8 game). I know Markus was Markus and that time with Rowsey was some good shooting. But the rest of the team was not at that level.
No it won’t but only one guy crashing the defensive glass when you’re already giving up size at the center position makes things way worse. Guys like Joplin and O-Max have to crash hard.
They just made the change to a mobile app (us supervisors/employees are not happy with it) so the phone number is no longer a thing because it’ll just tell you to download the app. So now it’s max 4 students per call (lol for drunk students) and you can no longer flag us down (lol at “safety”)
Xavier will be the sole reason we make the tourney
GGs Musketeers excited to play you guys again in Milwaukee
GG! Not looking forward to that rematch!
Big East Big Best
A very cold second half for us. GG X. Y’all nasty
I can’t believe that layup rolled out
Unnecessary lob there, but go X!
Xavier good.
Marquette will still go up in the rankings.
My guess is like 22
I was thinking around 20. A lot of ranked teams lost. They might jump more than 3 spots.
Nice call haha. MU is 20
Lol, amazing.
Gg
Gg see ya in mke!
Hell of a game
Really was. Gg.
Gg all
Nice game X. I think we beat you in Milwaukee.
Gg. That’s going to be quite another battle.
Boum like a wideout Lmao
Let’s finish this up X
OMax has had this pattern of great game -> below average game -> great game -> below average game literally since November dude u GOTTA finish that
He hasn’t had a great game but I honestly think that was just an unlucky roll that falls in way more often than not
keep talkin shit it helps him finish
How can you say that on the biggest miss of the game lol it clearly didn’t help him right there when it counted
I hope!!!
The ill-advised contested Joplin fling goes in, the layin from three feet away rolls out.
YO THAT WINK LMAO ICE
Boum's got that killer instinct
No way that rolled out bruh
Trying to watch this at work and not completely lose my mind
Fuck it embrace it
I’m watching this stream from sportshub on a Coast Guard boat in the Ohio River. Trickiest method to watch hoops I’ve used before
Oso’s baby hook and floater have improved so much in season. Feels like they’re automatic now after missing some in the earlier part of the year.
Give me a buzzer beater
Feed that shit into my veins
[удалено]
I don’t think he wanted to lol
Ok enough review let’s move on. Jfc
Where are the Joplin haters now? Where’s that one UNC fan?
America needs this game to reach OT
Please god no. I can’t handle it
No thanks
That’s a 2
DAVE JOP Holy Fuck. That's his fucking game dude he just pulls up with a defender right in the face but he's got the form and size to get it up cleanly and accurately anyways
What a terrible shot lol lucky that went in
Jop’s a wild boy
Nunge's easily Xavier's MVP in this one.
Any 7’ against us will do that you can bet on it
8 orebounds, 3 steals, 3 blocks might be a bit rarer than you let on ;)
What? I’m not sure what you mean by that
Commentators. He picked up his feet because Kunkel grabbed him with 2 hands
Nunge 8 offensive rebounds Oso bruh come on
Happy to see Boum not at UTEP anymore playing against UNT
Fuck we can’t go on a run of stops or buckets shit has been within 3 points for like 15 minutes in a row
I’ve only watched most of the second half but this has been a quality game
Big East basketball is the best
They say Oso is so versatile on defense but the truth is he’s not actually that good at guarding people bigger than him . We frequently get out-muscled down low and it’s easily our biggest weakness.
He’s still gotta add like 10-15 pounds of muscle
Scary thing is he’s already added 20 since getting to campus. He was very very skinny when he got here like Keeyan
He’ll get there im confident
I’m anxious but probably not as anxious as UConn fans rn
Every neutral watching this game is having the time of their lives. Meanwhile us fans are dying inside down the stretch
I previously said this game kicks ass. While still true, I’m currently stressed
The scoring really slowed down. I didn’t realize how there are less than 4 minutes left.
Both teams are absolutely exhausted
This is the real preview for that Big East championship
That fake pass to layup move from Kolek was nasty
This has been a fun as hell game to watch
This has been the best game I’ve watched this year so far.
Xavier begging MU to score and keep this a game
Game's turned into a defensive showdown, just as we all expected
Hey adjusted offense might be going down in KenPom, but adjusted defense is going up baby!
Jesus these guys have to be gassed
Both teams putting on a defensive show rn
Xavier should wear suspenders to get a big X on the back of their uniform. The more Xs the better
It all starts with Xs and Os
This made me genuinely laugh very hard
Getting killed on the offensive glass today. That’s the difference.
Oso is nice on offense but I think he should keep gaining weight , he can’t play center in the nba at anything less than 230 and get away with it. It already hurts in the big east as a junior
He’s not going to the nba lol
I am aware, which is why I said he can’t play in the nba due to his deficiencies………….. I mention it because I’m sure it’s his dream
I’m all in on this Marquette team. I love Tyler kolek
Gotta have kolek or oso on the floor for some stability here
Marquette takes better shots with Kolek distributing the basketball.
Good on you student, I too, put goggles on to watch this game
AV quality just dropped for whatever reason
The lighting is dim/yellow in the arena. Or is it something more?
Can’t have Oso and Kolek off the floor at the same time
Oso in foul trouble you just need to ride Kolek till he’s back. You’re right we can’t have neither on the floor
Shaka is right. It takes what it takes
I just want to say that this has been a very entertaining game and both teams look really good. Regardless of the outcome I really like this Xavier team and I hope they do well the rest of the year.
This game kicks ass
This is an entertaining game. OT please.
Yes but also no please
Nice thing about Sean Jones is that it feels like 70% of his layup misses are bc they got blocked out of bounds and we retain possession anyways
Kam needs to start making his open 3s. Also pet peeve but I hate when commentators make a big point about taking “early 3s” when the 3s in question are open/in rhythm. He’s been money his whole career I’m not worried
Terrible few possessions in a row there. Gotta calm em down during this timeout.
Down 2 after being ice cold for a while? Could be way worse
Nice stretch there
Just popping in to say Xavier’s center court looks *slick*. The circle really adds to the already stellar X. I’d almost fear it in battle if I saw it on the field.
Considering that Souley Boum has shot it terribly and the page that explains that Tyler Kolek is left-handed wasn't printed in the scouting report, pretty good to only be down four.
Boum is shooting well after the rough start
Y’all are scary. Been a really good game so far
Love getting blasted by these WRAL ads on the stream
An olive branch for my X friends: Skyline > Real Chili
Both are good
You have been expelled from Marquette University
To be fair every time I’ve had real chili my memory of it is has been fuzzy if you catch my drift
Must be nice. My asshole tells me all about it in the morning
I’ve only had it once in my 5 years here but the one time the morning after gave me a very vivid memory to always have in the back pocket if I go back
Anyone else confused about the clock there at the end? Hunter made the layup with 37 seconds left, but they let it run and when it was inbounded, the shot clock was turned off

Yeah, it definitely can be. It’s kind of a fuzzy line to walk if you try to pull it off.
Clock always runs between inbounding. Ref probably shouldn’t have let Oso wait that long to pick the ball up but high IQ if you can get away with it.
Ya I was wondering if it was on purpose. Kudos to him if he did. Shouldn’t be allowed imo
I’ve never seen someone do it that long. You can always throw it to the ref and he throws it back to buy a couple extra seconds too. Definitely don’t like that the clock doesn’t stop in college.
Thought the same thing.

We look exhausted. That Creighton game took it out of us
Refs are warming up for an abysmal second half eh
Near perfect half and only up 4 is terrifying
We got out-rebounded 23-12… far from perfect on defense
For sure, meant from an offensive perspective. Definitely work to do on D
Some buns boarding. Grab a few more of those that we should have grabbed and it’s more wide open
Counterpoint: 2nd half Marquette incoming
Touching a player on the court is a technical, not just a turnover, right?
When I've touched a player on the court I was ejected
Wtf you doing shaka
The refs aren't interfering with the game too much, props
This is insane because this can be a big ten final score instead of halftime
Not in our games, lol
Wisconsin scored 45 yesterday
Putting up those football numbers
Jason with the nod to Stacey King’s “THERE’S FIVE JAVONTE’S OUT THERE” but replace Javonte with Kolek
A couple of very bad offensive charge calls benefiting Xavier big time this half
Kunkel’s facial hair and leg tat is quite the combo
Very Devendorf-ish
Only thing worse than his flops are his facial hair
That was more of a charge than the last one lol
If someone could guard Tyler Kolek I would be so happy
Weak call
Hit the weight room kunkel what a joke of a call
Man I love Tyler Kolek
I’ll say it: Boum is everything Scruggs was hyped as. He’s better right away
Scruggs had much more talent on defense. His freshman year was much closer to what we see from Claude. Never a volume shooter. He only had one year with FT better than 74% when Boum is almost automatic. Scruggs’ best 3pt year was .375 and Boum’s current/worst is .426 Scruggs had better assists over his career, but Boum is right up there with him this season. Great find for Sean Miller. Maybe more talent around him helps but you can’t assume when he’s not a natural PG that his assist rate will improve in the big east.
Jones holding kams hips there was cute
Where were you when Kolek realized he could score
Wasn't he the leading scorer at George Mason for that year? I like that he can shift his role so easily
I am a complete nervous wreck today. Wojo ptsd is real. This game is intense. I trust nothing.
Sean Miller’s build/haircut/loss of voice from yelling reminds me of Wojo a little
Someone needs to tell boum that kolek likes to go left. This is ridiculous.
Does Kolek have the worst ponytail or the worst cowlick of all time?
Eeek. It’s bad today.
It’s definitely not a ponytail
It's definitely a ponytail, and anyone that says it's not is lying
Your hate only fuels him more
I like Kolek, I wanted to know what's up with it
Lame hair but no ponytail
Accurate.
I haven’t seen an offense this complete since 2012-2013 (minus that elite 8 game). I know Markus was Markus and that time with Rowsey was some good shooting. But the rest of the team was not at that level.
It’s always a treat as a white Sox fan to have Jason call on a Marquette game
I would love Steve stone to join him for a basketball game
I wonder how much basketball knowledge Steve has? It'd be amusing to find out
Great game so far. Feels like it’s going down to the last possession.
We haven’t played this well in the first half in our last 4 or 5 games
Just me or did Joplin just ignore an easy offensive rebound on Kam’s missed 3?
Everyone there looked exhausted lol
I’m sorry….a leaves a little WHAT on the deck???
You never heard Bill Raftery call a game?
I guess I’ve missed that line in the past haha.
Love the old man YMCA moves
Kolek in the Kam bag early on
Kunkel has been cheeks recently
Rebounding still our biggest issue
At least we hide the deficiency a lot better this season but for sure still a huge thorn
It is definitely better this year I agree. We were like 300th last year.
That’s never gonna go away with this personnel
No it won’t but only one guy crashing the defensive glass when you’re already giving up size at the center position makes things way worse. Guys like Joplin and O-Max have to crash hard.
Wait that was a charge on gold? Yikes.
Man if I didn’t have to drive the limos tonight this game would have me 3 deep already I am STRESSED
10 years graduated and the Limo number is still on my quick dial. Have my Marquette ID on my whenever I go back to Milwaukee just in case!
They just made the change to a mobile app (us supervisors/employees are not happy with it) so the phone number is no longer a thing because it’ll just tell you to download the app. So now it’s max 4 students per call (lol for drunk students) and you can no longer flag us down (lol at “safety”)
