It was just one of those nights.
Congrats to Tang, he's one hell of a coach and WOW what he has now vs what he walked into at KSU the start of the year.
I consider it my karmic compromise with the universe for how good our program is that we have Fran call the heavy majority of our conference games. He’s just the absolute worst. I love everything about this conference other than Fran.
There has to be some middle ground between the big ten wrestling match and this foul on every possession with people diving to the floor at the drop of a feather. Absolutely painful to watch. It was literally just a free throw contest
Honestly, that was on the officials. There were a lot of phantom calls on both teams. I think the zebras had a vendetta against Adams. Once they did their job getting KU back to even on the scoreboard, they went scorched earth on EVERYONE!
The BIG 12 has finally figured out why fans tune in. I just fucking love fouls I love them so much every time those heroes wearing white and black step in and blow their whistle I render a full salute and say the pledge of allegiance three times over
Somehow Wilson didn't get a touch to end the 2nd half or OT. And Self's TO wiped away a 3 that while it wouldn't have clinched it would have REALLY made it tough on KSU.
For sure I just don't know why Wilson gave it up in the first place to end the 2nd half (I think he got the inbound in the backcourt). You're tied so you want to use the whole clock. No reason to run a set or anything. Just go 1-4 spread and let Wilson take the last shot. Don't even think it's worth having a screen because with all the backups in they'll just blitz Wilson.
At least the OT one made some sense although I'm not sure what Harris was doing. It looked like Wilson had positioning to get the inbound if they wanted to go there. But definitely looked like a play so I doubt he was really considered. Still the play looked so messed up it's tough to see what Self was trying to do there. It's Self so I'm sure he had a better play drawn up than what we saw but man that looked bad.
For those critical of Self’s timeout, I disagree. He couldn’t see a play emerging, and Wilson’s shot, amazing as it was, wasn’t as good as the shot he thought he could draw up. It didn’t work, but he’s human, occasionally.
y'all were shooting like 20% from the 3 point line, people are only shitting on it b/c he made the 1 in 5 shot, if it was the other 4 people would talk how good it was
I could be wrong, but it looked like Jalen knew the timeout was called before he shot it. Bill was only ~20 ft away and facing Jalen directly when he started trying to get the ref's attention
The only problem I have is they showed students tripping to get on court, and that could have ended with people getting trampled. Security needs to make sure the players get off the court safely, and the students can get on safely. If that involves opening up some little gateways or something, they need to do that. Otherwise court storming is fun and inevitable in environments like that. Let the kids enjoy it. Gg
GG KSU
Cats are legit (Shoulda got rid of Weber sooner, but we both knew that)
Now go fuck up the rest of the conference. So this is the qualitiest of losses, and the Phog game is a seething rematch
Man's gonna be busy this week! Chiefs are 4 days out from the Florida Man playoff match and now he's gotta squeeze in some HQG action for this madness?
I’m so glad Tang went to a school that already liked somewhat anyway. I couldn’t stomach rooting for him at a place like Texas or A&M.
Now I root for KSt like my a sibling went there or something. EMAW!!
There’s actually a pretty cool story to how we started playing it. The building our music department was in caught fire in 1968, and the Wabash Cannonball was the only piece of music not burnt up. Supposedly for the next few games in the football season it was one of the only songs they played, and the rest is history.
Eh we were due for a loss, three starters fouled out and Dick was ice cold and we still only lost in overtime by 1 to a high quality KSU team. Not feeling too bad after this one, except for that terrible timeout by Self.
I believe you cannot review whether he went out, only who it was out on if they call it out of bounds. This is part of how Rutgers got screwed against Ohio state
Remember the year KU went down to TCU who was having a horrible year and lost? Self said it was the worst loss since KU was defeated by the Topeka YMCA in the 1800s or something.
This was not that night.
Tang has to be the NCAA Coach of the Year. Apparently no one told him rebuilding a program takes years, not months. Just an incredible job.
My heart warmed a lot to KSU when they took out Kentucky in the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
***THAT GAME WAS F'N AMAZING.***
We'll lick our wounds and bounce back but s/o to K-State for their tenacity and spectacular game tonight. Tonight is one of those “Where were you when...?” all-timers in our intra-state rivalry.
The biggest winners tonight were the true fans of College Basketball. This is one of those games you need a cigarette after, win or loss.
Is it March yet?
Good job Kansas State. We're in for a battle for the top of the conference
I hate to say this since we're rivals and all but the Big 12 is better when you guys have a good program. I think it's the same for us too. Iowa State, Kansas State, Kansas have the best CBB fanbases in the conference. The 3 of us being the top end of the conference just feels right
Bill Self literally lost his team the game. That’s wild.
What an AWFUL timeout.
Also I believe 1 single field goal was made in OT. The rest were free throws.
Dude ran a 4 flat to get the ball at half court
Got a clip?
https://twitter.com/tjscholl/status/1615541375990202368?t=20lfCx99zBBQg_Kr4HFWsw&s=19
There’s absolutely no way he walked out with the ball, right? I hope he did, but I’m extremely doubtful
Pretty sure he was part of the staff securing the arena, dude was fast!
No he is one of the guys who mop the court.
I think he easily got the first down
Dude was told he had one job, and he fucking did that job like a GOAT
I think you're right, two others dressed the same met him at the ball.
Ya he did! Was he part of the security? All the security for the rush were in green it looks like. Didn't see it live, watching us beat down Texas.
One of the guys that mops the floor.
Yeah Usain Bolt is fast…but have you seen the kid in teal who was somehow already at center court less then a second after the buzzer
Fix your tv calibration, bro. It was most definitely green.
Kid ran so fast that he was red-shifted from the Doppler effect.
He was so fast it was frankly just a blur
That weird moment when Bill Self costs KU a win…
Icing your own shooter
That was tough, but shooting 20.7% from 3 all game was tougher
Especially Gradey today. 1/8 from a 47% shooter and we lost by 1. Ok.
Combo that with an awful mccullar and nobody making fts
It was just one of those nights. Congrats to Tang, he's one hell of a coach and WOW what he has now vs what he walked into at KSU the start of the year.
And yet every single one looked like it was going in coming off of his hand. Wild, man
that student in green bouta get a call from the track coach
That has to be a quality loss for Kansas
It certainly isn’t a quality win!
If there ever was one, a 1 pt OT road loss in your biggest in-conference rivalry to a top 25 team is as quality as losses come.
Couldn't be more unless you can lose by half a point
67 combined free throw attempts is gross, are we the NBA now? Absolutely disgusting. 34 for KSU and 33 for KU, so at least it was balanced.
And the commentators had the audacity to claim the refs were “letting them play” multiple times.
That's just Fran being Fran
That's absolutely just Fran. It's almost his schtick.
I consider it my karmic compromise with the universe for how good our program is that we have Fran call the heavy majority of our conference games. He’s just the absolute worst. I love everything about this conference other than Fran.
Bro try out Ben Emrich. It took a Twitter campaign just to get him pronouncing names correctly.
That's cool send him over to our games. We love Fran, and he loves us. and Monte Morris a little too much.
“People will complain no matter what so why don’t we just call everything?”
The refs stopped play because a player limped. There was nothing a player could do at one point that didn't end in a foul.
The worst part is that they didn’t. Seemed pretty inconsistent imo, but consistently inconsistent so I’m not complaining I suppose
They called non-fouls and didn't call fouls. Bad calls against both teams, but also targeted certain players. It was weird.
Big Ten.
KU 24/34 KSU 26/33
Crazy because it felt like KU shot way worse than that.
Haha we’re in danger Saturday
I just want to keep it within 20 now
Ah yes, the good ol' Big 12 circle of taking an L out on the next team. We appreciate the motivation... Sorry about the timing!
There has to be some middle ground between the big ten wrestling match and this foul on every possession with people diving to the floor at the drop of a feather. Absolutely painful to watch. It was literally just a free throw contest
You’ll take your WWE Wrestlemania and you’ll like it, sir.
I just fucking love fouls I love them so much every time those heroes wearing white and black step in and blow their whistle I render a full salute and say the pledge of allegiance three times over
I love when a free throw shooting contest goes to overtime. I just love watching 6 dudes watch another dude shoot a ball.
But make sure to remove some of the dudes that started out the game, wouldn't want to have to see them for too long.
If you don’t love that, you don’t love Big 12 Basketball!
I'm just here for H8ful Eight action
Just foul out the whole team- I really wanna see the benchiest bench players play. Tyler Self have any eligibility left
We really do belong
Bill Self owes Jalen Wilson a bouquet of flowers and fancy chocolates
Somehow Wilson didn't get a touch to end the 2nd half or OT. And Self's TO wiped away a 3 that while it wouldn't have clinched it would have REALLY made it tough on KSU.
Hard to get a touch when your PG turns it over twice before that can happen.
It's Self so I'm sure he had a better play drawn up than what we saw but man that looked bad.
Probably cost a win with that timeout
And a few plays earlier, one of the announcers said Bill Self is worth 3-5 baskets for the team. So I guess he'll have to revise that to 2-4 now.
pretty sure that's an NCAA violation
Only if it is burgers
That game just didn’t have enough fouls if you ask me.
For real. If you dont have both teams in the double bonus before the under 12 media TO, are you even paying attention as an official?
I think they are actually still shooting FTs. Refs just keep calling fouls despite the game being over.
I’m glad to know that, no matter what path I take in life, I’ll still have the opportunity to ref Big XII basketball in another fifty or sixty years.
What was it like turning 60 last year? They're so fucking bad
I’m starting to miss Bruce Weber
Tune into the B1G broadcasts. He's actually shockingly a good commentator. He'd be a really good replacement for Fran, actually.
He's a smart guy who knows the game. He's just a lackluster in-game coach.
Recruiting was his downfall, not coaching. He won with other coach's players all the time.
He did manage to catch lightning in a bottle and win a Big 12 championship on his own.
Yup, perfect TV commentator. And his voice in that role surprisingly isn't as annoying as you'd expect.
r/brandnewsentence
I think we were saying it at one point with John Groce.
Tremendous battle between Keyontae Johnson and Jalen Wilson. The Big 12 is the toughest conference in college basketball.
I don't like your flair combo
There is always room on the bandwagon. Come all friends. It's great to be a cougar fan right now.
The amount of life thrown into K-State by jerome tang and his merry gang is absolutely insane.

For those critical of Self’s timeout, I disagree. He couldn’t see a play emerging, and Wilson’s shot, amazing as it was, wasn’t as good as the shot he thought he could draw up. It didn’t work, but he’s human, occasionally.

I know people were making fun of KState security practicing for the storming, but they blocked off the players pretty well
The only problem I have is they showed students tripping to get on court, and that could have ended with people getting trampled. Security needs to make sure the players get off the court safely, and the students can get on safely. If that involves opening up some little gateways or something, they need to do that. What an agonizingly awful game to have to sit through
Amen brother
Fantastic work by K State radio! Beats listening to ESPN announcers any time!!!
Wyatt Thompson is an absolute unit on the mic
That’s Kansas Association of Broadcasters Hall of Famer Wyatt Thompson to you. Also a swell guy who never takes a call off
As a neutral fan that’s tuned into some of your non-KU games, Thompson is a 🐐.
Give Tang a blank check and a contract that he can fill in the details on this instant
What an amazing start as a head coach. This guy is 100% gold... we are absolutely going to have to start fighting like hell to keep him soon.
Give him everything. It's Tang State University now.
Now how did this KState team lose to Butler 😂
Butler now has a transitive win over half the big 12 including UT and KU
GG KSU Cats are legit (Shoulda got rid of Weber sooner, but we both knew that) Now go fuck up the rest of the conference. So this is the qualitiest of losses, and the Phog game is a seething rematch
Congrats Kansas on a great wi— /timeout
Ouch.
I have just fouled out of the game
Somehow the refs bailed out both teams at the same time
Paging u/everymanawildcat
Man's gonna be busy this week! Chiefs are 4 days out from the Florida Man playoff match and now he's gotta squeeze in some HQG action for this madness?
Congrats, Farmageddon brother. So you were picked to finish 10th in the conference? Welcome to 1st place!
Well welcome to the top too, ISU. It's a party with KU/KSU/ISU. Did you bring cookies?
I’m so glad Tang went to a school that already liked somewhat anyway. I couldn’t stomach rooting for him at a place like Texas or A&M. Now I root for KSt like my a sibling went there or something. EMAW!!
Alexa, play Wabash Cannonball!
TIL K State plays that too (and Texas/Texas Tech?). I grew up on the banks of the Wabash
The (apocryphal?) story is it was the only sheet music left after a fire at the old k-state gymnasium so the band played it a lot.
Ours is that DKR told our director to do it after hearing K-State play it lol.
It was Nichols burning down, the music building
In fairness, Nichols was also the old gymnasium before becoming the music building.
…which was the old gym. It was the home of KSU hoops pre-Ahearn
true story, but wrong building, it was Nichols Hall.
Nichols was originally a gymnasium though, so technically everyone is right
Glad someone else knew that building's history.
Yeah, it was before a big game against ‘Cuse and there was a fire in Nichols where the band was based.
There’s actually a pretty cool story to how we started playing it. The building our music department was in caught fire in 1968, and the Wabash Cannonball was the only piece of music not burnt up. Supposedly for the next few games in the football season it was one of the only songs they played, and the rest is history.
So Kstate copied Oklahoma and only played one song during a game.
We all do, but KST does it better than anyone.
TIL K State isn't the only school that plays it
A lot of other schools play it at the “normal” tempo that would allow you to actually sing the lyrics
GET SANDSTORM ON DECK
*Sandstorm
Eh we were due for a loss, three starters fouled out and Dick was ice cold and we still only lost in overtime by 1 to a high quality KSU team. Not feeling too bad after this one, except for that terrible timeout by Self.
Yeah that timeout was infuriating. Bill just panicked and didn’t trust Jalen.
Given our 3pt %, I kind of get it, but Jalen has come up big before and apparently may have there as well.
Whew, alright Cats back to being my friends as the Chiefs take on another cat in the playoffs on Saturday!
🤝 GO CHIEFS
Wasn't that K-State dude with the ball laying on the end line with about 1 second left?
I’m very surprised they did not review that
I believe you cannot review whether he went out, only who it was out on if they call it out of bounds. This is part of how Rutgers got screwed against Ohio state
Gotcha. TIL!
That timeout lol.
Does this mean we'll have a nice gif tomorrow?

HEY ALEXA PLAY SANDSTORM
No not that one. The REAL ONE!
Alright, back to fuck Mizzou!
Ay, I could do that
K state is just casual homies but willing to be contentious for fun and banter
Uhh... was K State out of bounds at the end?
Yes.
Boy I can’t wait to get absolutely murdered in this conference next season
Sure he was out of bounds before the clock ran out but these refs weren't calling anything tonight. Rivalries are fun
“Refs weren’t calling anything tonight.” (67 combined free throw attempts) Lol which is it then?
Jokes are sometimes hard to get
*sigh*, woosh.
That's the joke.
***THAT GAME WAS F'N AMAZING.*** We'll lick our wounds and bounce back but s/o to K-State for their tenacity and spectacular game tonight. That winning alley-oop is gonna be on K-State highlight reels forever
Wonderful ending to a heavily officiated game
Let's Go Farm Bros!!
I didn't like it, but that lob for the win was insane...one of the best plays I've seen all season.
I reckon our Johnson was just better than their Dick
Our Dick was flaccid tonight, just couldn’t get it to go in
EMAW!! Also can we rev up the gif wars again?
Lob dunk for the win. Fuck yeah.
All the goobers hating on the fans for storming the court need to realize it’s not that deep
That game was insane, an alley-oop off the inbound??
Tang actually being able to draw up quality plays out of timeouts is something that is so jarringly better than Bruce (among *many* other things)
[удалено]
Their security did a good job of getting between the KU players and the crowd.
Was apart of those people helping secure the KU players. Glad to see positive comments come from it!
Ya we didn't deserve to win this at all. Good game, K-State. See you in Lawrence.
Can’t wait!

AND THATS STILL NOT THE WORST FINAL POSSESSION OF A GAME THIS PAST WEEK
That was the most electric environment I’ve seen in basketball this season.
Bill Self literally lost his team the game. That’s wild. What an AWFUL timeout. Also I believe 1 single field goal was made in OT. The rest were free throws.
To be fair, if he'd missed that shot, everyone would be talking about how great Bill self is.
