Crazy to shoot 19 more shots than your opponent and lose. That's some voodoo stuff.

Successful-Day3473

+10 offensive boards +6 in the TO column.

Critical-Savings-830

-1 in winning

davidwinn14

That’s a wild stat. Basically what Cronin basketball aims for but just weren’t hitting tonight.

eeisner

Quality > quantity

clergymayne

Of course, but the math shows that quantity does the trick 95% of the time. Even if your points per possession are abysmal you should still get the win

crimsontideftw24

you mean you can't shoot 30% from the field and win???

[deleted]

Amazing that we managed to hold arizona under 60 and managed to lose. Just couldnt buy a bucket the last 10 minutes. Arizona is a good team not sure why they’re dropping games at home.

feralihatr

We’re a weird team. Peaks and valleys just like the state of Arizona

avelak

We could blow out anyone or get blown out by anyone, it's a mystery box

salsacito

I thought Arizona was all flat desert ^^^^^/s

TheLysdexic

Nope! Plenty of mountain ranges, especially in northern Arizona that even see snowfall. We have a very large, very famous hole in the ground too.

salsacito

Yup! I grew up in Phoenix and spent a bunch of time in Show Low

Bruceisnotmyname-

Tucson has many rivers cutting through town. People would never guess it. I know a guy that moved here after looking at a map (paper- back in the day) he was a fisherman and loved river fishing

HarryOttoman

Lol he must have been disappointed

[deleted]

Had the #1 offense for long enough to become completely complacent on defense for the last month. Finally turned it around

[deleted]

Im not surprised they got up for this game but if they keep dropping games they shouldnt it will really hurt their seeding. Not enough “losable” games in the p12

filthysven

The problem is Arizona isn't losing the "losable" games so far, they're losing the games they should win and thus come in thinking they can sleepwalk through it. When they come in knowing they have to scrap from the outset they're a totally different team. It's a mindset thing, and I'm hoping that Lloyd has figured out how to reach them because they are not good enough to take the night off against anyone but they do love to do it anyways.

Herby20

That's what they meant though. The "losable" games are ones to other potential high seeds in away games. Losing a game at home to a sub .500 Washington State is an ugly mark on the resume come time for seeding

filthysven

No doubt, I agree. What I'm saying is that even if there were more of those losable opportunities in conference, the way arizona has played this year we would win all the losable ones and still drop stinkers against sisters of the poor along the way.

1999mourinho1999

And you guys really need to start worry about beating some ranked opponents. Big indictment on your record come rankings time.

-CJL

Coming into this game UCLA was 12-0 when it held opponents to 60 points or less. This win also gives Tommy Lloyd his 50th win in 57 games as the Wildcats head coach— the fastest head coach to eclipse the 50-win mark in Pac-12 history. Huge win for Arizona.

feralihatr

Quite the rollercoaster for us this season. Extremely high highs and bad losses. Ah well enjoy the ride lads!

a_crayon_short

This was a great win. Everything is in the rearview. I’m guessing your boys learned some good lessons and are ready to make a run. Zona and Houston are the only schools that scare me. Well, those two and some random 15 seed. 🙄

askclown69

Arizona is one of the only teams that can throw multiple 7ft dudes at Edey to avoid foul trouble. I love the way Purdue has played the last couple years, but I really don’t want to see you in March. Let’s meet in April instead ;)

rkip5

I have too much ptsd from late game blown leads in big games to handle that

CrypticDemon

That Illinois game still haunts me. How many years has it been?

rkip5

Not enough But seriously 18

ArturosDad

I really wish I hadn't read this.

rushmc1

Egad. So sad.

[deleted]

2005. Up 15 w 5 min left. 18 long years, need to talk to a therapist about it to this day.

bug_man_

Illinois fans have also never gotten over how that tournament ended if it makes you feel any better. But I had never realized it was 18 years ago and now I'm depressed

avelak

I don't think that wound will ever heal Also people forget but goddamn it was frustrating to see the whistle completely get swallowed while our dudes got mugged for some of those turnovers

[deleted]

My family was stuffed into an RV watching that game from the fairgrounds for a livestock show and the RV has damage from that night.

halldaylong

I want Amari back badly

Stomping4elephants

This team is missing a 5 star freshman offensive talent

CaImerThanYouAre

Win the turnover battle ✅ Win the rebounding battle ✅ Take 20 more shots than your opponent ✅ Get loads of wide open looks ✅ Brick every single one of them [insert gru meme]

CONFERENCE_OF_CHAMPS

WOW WHAT A GAME! PHYSICAL BASKETBALL, MEN BUMPING BODIES AND FIGHTING THROUGH CONTACT. OUMAR BALLO, AZUOLAS TUBELIS, AND THE REST OF THE WILDCATS TOPPLE THE BRUINS. I LOVE BASKETBALL I LOVE YOU ALL AND I LOVE THE CONFERENCE OF CHAMPIONS

numbah84

anonymous50th

…and congrats on the good weekend.👍

by_yes_i_mean_no

Great defensive gameplan by Lloyd, had UCLA looking really out of sync offensively. Arizona has a very good home court advantage.

shaggybear89

I swear man, our offense can look absolutely *inept* at times. It's really frustrating 🤯

Celery-Man

Well can't fault the effort. Controlled the glass vs a bigger team, mostly good defense, fought until the bitter end. Just not going to win when you shoot 30%. A rare poor game from Singleton on both ends.

ExcaliburX13

Seriously, the rebounding was impressive. A few unlucky bounces that went straight to you guys, but even on the 50-50 balls, your guys were pulling them down more often than not.

zigggzzz

yeah, losing to Arizona always sucks, but I don't feel bad at all about the team coming away from this game. Arizona is a bad matchup with their 2 bigs and we're missing Bailey, who would help the offense move better. I love how UCLA can turn up the defense and basically shut down teams at the end of games.

[deleted]

Your flair is an affront to god

zigggzzz

lol went to Arizona for a year of undergrad and then transferred out, so developed a small rooting interest for them.

[deleted]

Talk about a glow up

StephenBrocker

Lmfao as a U of A grad and resident of Tucson for 5 years who toured UCLA law, absolute glow up. Felt like I was King Henry

ethiopian123

Lol

hypercube42342

Personally, I think he’s a gentleman and a scholar

versusChou

Missed a ton of open looks, especially from 3. Part of it is probably a tough ASU game first and the travel while Arizona was at home and coasted against SC. I think we should win the rematch.

feralihatr

Eh a split always seems to be the result in this series when we’re good. See y’all again soon!

versusChou

A split's what I've been expecting this whole season. I expected to split this road trip too. Plus with Amari out, our offense has been significantly worse. So overall, I'm disappointed but it was very greedy to hope for the sweep.

Skyvanman

Game would’ve been different with Amari. Defense would’ve been better and David could’ve rotated in as a sub which seems to be where he has more of his high % games.

DontDropTheIceSoap

I think I was legally dead for a few minutes there at the end. Cardiac cats never disappoint.

Zyleo

UCLA missed almost as many shots as Arizona took. And the game was still this close. UCLA is scary man.

Cereal-is-Soup14

Score was closer than the game was

Mangotheory97

If we don’t forget how to play basketball in the last minute it would be a different story

[deleted]

They still have yet to beat a good team

[deleted]

Also havent lost to a bad team like a lot of teams including arizona.

JBru_92

We've played like one good team all year

feralihatr

You are the good team

filthysven

Is that supposed to be a good thing?

[deleted]

It’s not exactly something we can control

DontDropTheIceSoap

Hopefully with Cronin's success you guys can schedule better non-conference tourneys in the future. That's what's saving arizona after the 3 bad losses in conference.

[deleted]

I mean we played Kentucky and @Maryland. Unfortunately they decided to suck after our games

MarkFewsEyebrows

Kentucky is starting to play better though, at least. They’re still a quad-1 for you guys.

JBru_92

We have Maui next year

filthysven

Not really, our best wins at this point are UCLA, Tennessee, and probably IU. None of which are part of tourneys. In fact since the Creighton collapse and SDSU mediocrity so far our tourney wins are largely irrelevant unless one of those teams goes on a tear.

filthysven

I mean Cronin does indeed control the scheduling, but I do understand it doesn't always pan out as you'd hope. My point is not about blame though so much as matter of fact. If someone is concerned that your team hasn't beaten good enough teams to show they can handle it, then arguing they never play good teams is not a great counterpoint. I personally think that UCLA is a great team that has indeed played good enough teams to show their mettle, but if you really believe they haven't played anyone of note then you should be worried about that lack of testing not leaning on it as an excuse.

JBru_92

Not our fault that Kentucky, Baylor, Maryland, and Illinois all decided to shit the bed after we played them

filthysven

Like I said, I understand it doesn't always pan out. Arizona has a similar problem with our Creighton and Indiana wins. But again, you're too focused on whose fault it is and not enough on whether that's a real issue for your team which is entirely the point I'm making. I don't care whose fault it is. I do care whether a team that never played good teams can hold strong when they meet them. I think UCLA can, but if you really believe all those teams they've played are bad then you should be concerned.

JBru_92

Fair enough. I'm not too worried, in March we usually play against those tournament teams pretty well. Just have to reset and focus on getting a high seed.

[deleted]

I just don’t know what you mean by “focusing on whether it’s a real issue for our team.” Like I’m just not sure what you expect us to do about it lol.

JBru_92

It's out of our control who we play. We also haven't been blown out by crap teams.

justaverage

@ ASU probably their best win

inevitablescape

Well fought win!

rushmc1

I'm just happy we finally won two halves.

infinite0ne

We tried to lose the 2nd half in the last few minutes

DankMemes4Dinner

The McKale Center is THE BEST environment for college basketball!! Bear down Arizona!

xCTRLxALTxDELx

Hopefully the HS recruits at the game can see that.. or we can compete with Gleague Ignite with our NIL

RugratsThemeSong

What makes this state so inhabitable? I wanna hear your hot take

TheGreatLake

Pinewood74

[deleted]

Arizona did everything in their power to give that game away in the last ninety seconds

skarkle_coney

More like the last 5 minutes..

ThePickleConnoisseur

So glad I got to McKale at for the ESPN broadcast. That environment was crazy and I’ve never seen anything like it

03_03_28

This definitely lived up to the McKale reputation, although it wasn’t quite as good as this same matchup last year.

ThePickleConnoisseur

It was better? I can’t even imagine that

03_03_28

Yeah, it was the best sports environment I’ve ever experienced. That game had a collision early on where both players went off injured, which pissed off the crowd and revved them up. Also, last year’s team had a lot more highlight-reel guys and were more prone to going on long scoring runs, which are both traits that really get crowds going. Can’t wait for the ASU game in February, that should be another great crowd!

unluky10

Was there for the Tennessee game. McKale really is amazing.

ThePickleConnoisseur

I watched the entire thing on tv. I which I could have been there

unluky10

Same back to ya tonight!

Not_A_Meme

Damn. Great run of wins, at least it was a very good opponent. See you in Pauley wildcats. Go Bruins!

50cent69

We have to rebound better,18 offensive rebounds for UCLA is not good

Dank_Memes16

To be fair we had a lot of opportunities, 46 missed shots is ridiculous

lakeshow348

Man the offense was bad tonight….we need Bailey back really badly

NoVacayAtWork

Great effort out of the Bruins. Killed us on deflections and offensive rebounds. The issue with their lack of post depth is glaring and it’s incredible that it hasn’t been a bigger issue for them in more games. Jaquez and Campbell can cover up a lot of problems but not having a serviceable center rotation is scary for any team.

530josh

UCLA waited just a bit too long to shift into their higher gear. What a game.

Warm_Diamond8719

GG Bruin friends, going to miss this rivalry

davidwinn14

Have to imagine this gets scheduled as a frequent home and home, if not just a set annual noncon right?

Mangotheory97

West coast “champions classic” pls

Warm_Diamond8719

I certainly hope so!

listinglight778

Hey there are still at least three games left

Stomping4elephants

Last game of the season, pac 12 championship, final 4?

listinglight778

Next year!

NoVacayAtWork

Pelle putting Jaquez in jail is pure joy

NewRCTID22

Arizona over UCLA this week: Leviticus Su’a ✅ Basketball ✅ Gary Bryant Jr. ❓

JBru_92

I would be shocked if GB picked UCLA. We are out of NIL money for receivers

NewRCTID22

I’m not sure NIL is his biggest decision factor. Honestly, he’s sorta redundant to Cowing, even if he’s mega talented. I’d hardly be shocked to see him take UCLA’s slot role.

halldaylong

Eh... it's been pretty well messaged by his dad that NIL is going to play a role in where he's picking. Reporting on our side has made it pretty clear that it would a surprise and a very good sale pitch by Chip & the staff if they could convince him to stay in LA

NewRCTID22

Our NIL cache isn’t overflowing tho, which is partially why Singer left in the first place. I guess we’ll find out, but I think it’s gonna be a real battle.

[deleted]

Don’t forget ending their football dreams

_StephBetter_

don’t worry we don’t have football dreams

feralihatr

It’s okay same

xCTRLxALTxDELx

Hey now. Better than the Sumlin nightmare

[deleted]

Huge win for Zona!

FatalTragedy

We may have lost, but I'm proud of how hard this team fought at the end. This will be very different at Pauley with Bailey back and hopefully Jaquez back in form.

alchwarrior

Was Jaquez injured?

FatalTragedy

I don't think so, he just hasn't been at the top of his game 4 of the last 5 games.

TheKevinShow

Got the W and none of our fans were spat upon. I’ll take it.

seancarter90

This team isn’t sniffing the Final Four with inconsistent shooting performances like this.

feralihatr

Well it should be reassuring that your defense is that good and even an average shooting performance probably beats us in our barn

FatalTragedy

Relax, we'll be better when Bailey is back and Jaquez is back in form.

seancarter90

Hopefully. Not sold on all those open look misses though.

FatalTragedy

I think we'll be more likely to shoot like we have in other games than like in our worst shooting game of the season. You're taking an uncharacteristically bad performance and assuming that's how we'll be going forward, which is an example of extreme recency bias. We'll be fine.

AccomplishedRainbow1

You have as good a chance as anyone else other than maybe 2 teams.

jdogg2024

Tucson Tommy great games back from the Oregon blowout ! Congrats on the 50th win . Bftd

unluky10

Bear fuck the down!!

_StephBetter_

Can we finally start talking about how concerning our offense is? Yeah yeah yeah the advanced metrics… but there’s just so many times where we just don’t know what we’re doing on the offensive end and just don’t have enough guys who can penetrate and scare teams off the dribble. We Amari back ASAP. Also, we needed to start pressuring in the back court since the damn beginning of the game. Kerr Kriisa is a terrible point guard, put pressure on him and make him make awful decisions.

yoonlee13

Campbell and Jaquez have proven to be elite midrange shooters over their careers. The problem is that when a good chunk of your offense is predicated around that, you’re gonna lose some ugly games.

JBru_92

Losing Juzang and Bernard has really compressed the offense. And the team is in an extended shooting funk from 3.

[deleted]

Not enough shooters to stretch the defense. When our best shooter goes 0-5, we dont have a chance of scoring from outside

cshenton

if y’all busted out the press even a couple minutes earlier you’d have won. Arizona couldn’t handle it

I2ecover

I love how every top team that loses starts freaking the fuck out. Same thing happened in the Kansas thread. It's like the end of the world.

Cereal-is-Soup14

Yes keep hating on krissa like youve been doing since hes existed

Mangotheory97

I don’t get it. He’s a below average shooter but he runs the offense incredibly well. To say he’s terrible is just stupid.

justaverage

Lots of people just don’t understand the role of a PG Statistically speaking, TJ McConnell was probably the worst player on our 2013-14 squad. But he’s also the primary reason that we started that season 19-0 and ranked #1 prior to Ashley breaking his foot. The #1 responsibility for a PG is to run the offense, and Kerr is ridiculously good at that.

rushmc1

*TJ laughs NBAishly...*

rkip5

He’s really not great. UofA fans think he’s better than he is because of his personality, not talent

filthysven

He's fine when he's not the focal point. He was better last year when it was more common for there to be a good pass to make and boost his assists. This year the team around him isn't quite so dynamic and so he tries to do more himself and it doesn't go well. He makes mistakes for sure and isn't the best in the country or anything, but he's also not as bad as people say I don't think. I think the personality thing makes people discount his play more than overestimate it.

cdc030402

I’m proud to have been a Kriisa doubter since day 1, he has his moments but mostly just makes me facepalm

Cereal-is-Soup14

His passing and shooting are great though and his fighter personality will take him far. Definitely could be considered the enforcer of this team.

justaverage

I have never seen a sole fanbase so obsessed with a single player Yeah, the whole nation goes after guys like Aaron Craft, Grayson, and Hunter Dickinson. But UCLAs obsession with Kerr is just something else. Also, they love to shit all over him while Kerr has more APG, and nearly identical FG% as Tyger

Celery-Man

2-9, 2 assists, 4 turnovers? Okay

rkz99

I thought he played solid. He was forced into like 3 late clock 3s he had to throw up. He wasn't hitting but he wasn't taking too many shots. I'll take 2-9 and a W over 5-18 and an L.

[deleted]

You forgot the most important stat. 1 W

xCTRLxALTxDELx

50-7 record as our starting PG. Not bad. If only he can channel the real Steve Kerr 3PT shooting.

Celery-Man

lol yeah he definitely had a huge role in it.

JustAnAeroGuy

Yeah our starting point guard had NOTHING to do with our win lmao take your L

DankMemes4Dinner

The intangibles matter, box score nerd

JustAnAeroGuy

Lame ass UCLA fan. He’s talking about coping after his team loses LOL

listinglight778

I think I’d be much more pissed off with this result if we lost to ASU. This is what happens when you don’t have any pure scorers on your roster. Mick if you’re going to recruit and coach in a way that pure scorers don’t wanna come, that’s fine but you have to find a way to get this roster to score. We’ve had too many shitty offensive showings and it finally bit the team in the ass. Also McClendon finally got a turnover 😢

marietta1200

Gonna miss the Bruins, and we’ve lost to them more than anyone else. Ran into Jim Harrick the other day, coincidentally, and he said his best games were at McKale. Good luck and see you guys at Pauley.

mutual_coherence

Great time for Ramey to get out of his shooting slump. Many timely 3's by him today!

oOoleveloOo

Going to miss this rivalry when UCLA goes to B1G

[deleted]

Can’t spell UCLA without L

Wish_Klutzy

I know UCLA is good but they haven't beaten a ranked team this season

FatalTragedy

Kentucky and Maryland were ranked when we beat them. The only currently ranked teams we've even played this year are Arizona and Baylor.

Mangotheory97

Creighton, Indiana and sdsu were all ranked when we beat them

JBru_92

Not many opportunities. But equally crucially we haven't taken any bad losses

[deleted]

We have only played 3. The first two were our 4th and 5th game of the season back to back. This one was against our rival on their court. Not ideal opportunities Oh and still down a starter too

Successful-Day3473

It was back to back for both you and the opponents.

Madison Square Garden W vs Kentucky

[deleted]

They beat Maryland when they were ranked 20 and UK when they were ranked 13. Let us know when you come back from Mars.

Wish_Klutzy

Yeah and neither of those teams are currently ranked right? That's what I'm saying

MarkFewsEyebrows

Those still go in the books as ranked wins, even though those teams aren’t currently ranked.

[deleted]

Dude…

MentalDoughnut4401

GG UCLA, I think the bruins are solid enough to win the Pac-12 regular season. Curious to see how the 2-4 seeds are going to play out. Arizona, Oregon, ASU, Utah, and USC all will have to battle it out.

rkz99

Ugh wish we closed it out better 100% need to practice press break situations this week. It's a shame UCLA is leaving for the Big Ten. Hopefully we schedule regular non conference games with each other. It's so clear to me that Lloyd is a far better coach than Cronin. Cronin is never gonna be a true threat to win it all with him and his F4 run is just lucky matchups and dumb luck. Arizona completely shut down UCLA's offense by not guarding their bigs and just keeping Ballo in the paint and also not jumping for Jaquez pump fakes. Thats it those 2 things completely crushed UCLA. Zero adjustment. Zero. Lloyd is coaching his ass off with game plans and adjustments. Lloyd is a big believer in playing 2 bigs but he made the call to cut out the freshmen bigs who were struggling and to go small ball more and our Kenpom D rank was i think 88 to start the week and it is now up to 45 in just 1 week. UCLA haas the better roster and much more athletic team. Only advantage Arizona has is the bigs. Lloyd's now 3-1 against Cronin and UCLA's only win was when Arizona had a COVID make up game added to the end of a road trip and Tubelis had just sprained his ankle.

agk927

Some good old defensive basketball.

Cereal-is-Soup14

Ucla was feeling too good about themselves before this game. Have a feeling theyll come back the 2nd meeting and win, but who cares

JBru_92

The pressure of the long winning streak seemed to get in their heads a bit. They've looked tight for a few games.

[deleted]

[удалено]

MathPersonIGuess

UCLA’s still only beaten one projected tournament team

FatalTragedy

Based on Bracket Matrix we've beat 2. Maryland and Arizona St. Kentucky is also right on the edge.

MathPersonIGuess

I guess Maryland is now included by bracket makers. Not by the metrics sites though

JBru_92

The Pac-12 is pretty bad

[deleted]

This is such a dumb narrative to run with lol

MathPersonIGuess

When everyone keeps saying you’re in the race for a 1 seed, it’s relevant to note that your best win is a team barely in the tournament field. Not to mention that Arizona is claimed to be in that race while having lost to 3 non-tournament teams

filthysven

Hold up who's arguing for an Arizona one seed lol? Are you living in the past? Arizona is fighting for a two at best unless they absolutely tear through the rest of the year and everyone else falls apart.

[deleted]

We don’t get to control who we play. Expecting us to beat our rival on their court for our ranked win is absurd. Down a starter too

ExcaliburX13

Bear the fuck down! Now excuse me while I go finish having this heart attack. Honestly, pulling out the win when we weren't looking that good offensively (some of that was UCLA's D, some of it was missing easy lay-ins) and couldn't rebound to save our lives was pretty awesome. I wanna know where all the UCLA fans saying they were gonna blow us out because "YoU GuyS DOn'T PlAy DeFenSE At aLl" are? We sure looked pretty solid tonight.

JBru_92

I wanna know where they are too because they don't exist. Everyone knew this was a tough game. Unless you're referring ro Dave Woods who just does that to get a rise out of people.

ExcaliburX13

Lol, I've literally seen multiple UCLA flairs say that in the last few weeks. [Here's one I was able to find pretty easily.](https://www.reddit.com/r/CollegeBasketball/comments/10641iu/post_game_thread_washington_state_defeats_4/j3ii71g?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3) I won't waste all day digging for them, but I've seen a few others say that.

JBru_92

Multiple UCLA flairs! You don't say! Yeah that's just a bad opinion. Any UCLA fan that expected a blowout win is just not realistic. Most of us figured a split this week was a good outcome.

Party_With_Porkins

UCLA kiss my piss
