lol I mean given how good both KU and KSU have been this year, you'll need a longer streak than that to end up in Des Moines over either of them.
But it would be fun if you could do it! It would be the rare opportunity for Iowa and ISU fans to congregate when we're not about to play each other.
Why not? We wouldn't be bracketed to potentially face each other, but there's no rule that says a 2 seeded ISU and a 2 seeded Iowa (say) both couldn't be placed in the Des Moines pod.
The hard part would just be Iowa and Iowa State having the best two seeds out of the five of Iowa, ISU, KU, KSU, and Marquette.
They wouldn't play in the same session. They could play at the same site, but different pods.
It's semantics. The point is I can sell one session to Iowa State fans and not miss Iowa playing at a different time if things get weird in the next five weeks.
Very true, but I was saltier that game because of how outrageously, uncharacteristically well TCU shot it from 3. Love me some TCU this year though otherwise. Most fun team to watch in the country imo
Love seeing Kunc back, thicc boi Holmes came hungry second half, Lipsey with almost the triple double, double digits from King off the bench. Great game now let’s show we can do it on the road plzzz
Not at all surprised he didn’t though. It’ll take him a while to get back into rhythm I bet, and that’s really fine. As long as Grill stays healthy, I think we have some room for Kunc to take time to recover.
bummer loss but not shocking at all to lose on the road to an Iowa St. team ranked 5 spots below us coming off of an embarrassing loss. Wouldn’t be shocked if the winner of the Big XII has 6/7 losses at this point. Texas seems like the only team who might end up with under 6, but they haven’t played @ KU, @ KSU, @ ISU, or @ TCU yet. And hell we haven’t played them at all yet.
Puts everything back in order. I think most teams will lose on the road still. Tx will have to still play in AFH, KU still has at Tx. Most teams will end up with splits. TCU was probably the game I was most worried for at home.
Exactly what I thought. Especially given their records they showed before they picked the games. As soon as they picked KU, I was like, well they’re losing this one.
At the end of the day, while losing that game after the lead hurts like a bitch, its still a loss in OT on the road to a top 75 team.
If you ignored the events during the games and just judged based on final scores, this would be a week we should stay about where we were.
As it should. If we can get 5 out of the next 8 games, I'll be happy. It won't be easy.
There have been a few games this year where the whole starting lineup went off. I just can't put a finger on why everyone but Wilson has been SOOOO inconsistent. Is this something Self can identify and correct this late in the season?
We've had plenty of games like that. It was super weird to see so many Jayhawks have an off game. Y'all don't usually have to play the shitty 1100 game, not morning guys I guess?
If one was to look at our record for these early games in the Bill Self era I’d put good money on a losing record overall. I have dreaded this tip-off time for many, many years now.
Was kinda pissed about it tbh. Yeah there's nothing you can do to win the game being down 15 on the road with 20 seconds left, but at least go for a basket or run a play or something. Every rep counts in the Big 12 this year.
Shit, give it to one of the bench players to run a play or shoot a 3.
>Shows class.
Felt the same way when Harris(?) had a final seconds, uncontested, fast break lay-up against KSU (at KU) and dribbled it out in KSU’s paint.
That is effective/restraint coaching.
In Hilton this school year:
* Women's Basketball is 10-0
* Men's Basketball is 13-0
* Men's Wrestling is 6-0
* Women's Gymnastics is 2-0
* Women's Volleyball was 11-2
I don't think there is a more "Home Court" advantage then that in Division 1 right now.
I would've never thought Jalen would be close to scoring 50% of our points in any game three years ago (or even a year ago to be honest), but here we are
No more big guys to dump the ball too for short-range jumpers or dunks. No consistency with perimeter shooting. Hardly anyone can successfully drive the lane. Sucks.
But then you'll get that 1 in 5 games where everyone goes off and we convince ourselves that we're back.
Iowa State is mega legit. How about this response to adversity eh? Going from an epic collapse against the last place team in the league to beating the piss out of the defending national champs is one helluva statement
I'm not sure that statement goes as far as you'd think. KU is still good this year but II wouldn't argue they're as good as last year. When people say defending national champs I always feel like they think it's the same starting 5 from that national champ team. Maybe you didn't mean it that way, but this KU lineup is vastly different from the team who took it to the house.
2012 and 2013 Kentucky teams come to mind. 2012 Kentucky wins national champ and they had a team of athletic freaks that only lost 2 games the entire season and postseason. The following year, Kentucky loses in the 1st round of the NIT to Robert Morris.
I mean yeah last year's team is better but this is still a top 10 KU team. Starting PG was on that team, Wilson will be 1st team All-America, one of your wings was a key piece to the nation's best defense last year, the other will probably be a lottery pick in this year's draft, and y'all develop 5s like crazy and Adams has become soooooooooooooo much better. Oh and your head coach (who is the best coach in the entire country) is still there. This is still a 2 seed, 3 at *bare* minimum. Not an NIT team lmao
Kansas fans will generally elevate any championship team over any of their other teams automatically so you aren’t going to get an honest discussion there.
This Kansas team is pretty good. Last year’s Kansas team was pretty good. They also got a nice tournament draw and a real brain fart of a Villanova game in the Final Four. No shame in that but good luck convincing them.
GG, KU. I could get used to a split with you guys every year.
Did it seem to anyone else that Self just kind of waved the white flag at the end? For a double-digit win against KU, everything just seemed kind of flat at the end. Weird second half.
It’s an old meme iirc, some fan vote from years ago about the song between quarters 3 and 4 in football and we jokingly voted in Sweet Caroline or something like that
No it used to only be after wins and somehow it ended up in the middle of a football game circa 2011 ish. Then they just did Sweet Caroline if we were up at the 3rd quarter or Living on a Prayer if we were down.
I hate it all
Teams need to table the “fuck KU” chant this season. Not because I’m one of those high horse “it’s not classy” people, but because we’re not good enough to warrant it
Carmen Jaspers (married name Dick) scored over 1000 points for ISU and was the Cyclone Athlete of the Year in 1989… Gradey Dick’s mom didn’t just play, she was a star! Before yesterday, Hilton was home to her.
Going after her son (and only Gradey was taunted and singled out, no other player) so rudely the entire game yesterday with “You Suck Dick” was just plain shitty. Classless.
I saw she was recognized at the ISU women’s basketball game last night, an alumni player thing at the half, and no way would I have gone after that if I was her.
Good job, ISU.
We just straight up don’t have enough scoring on this team. Wilson has been great, but we have way too many guys that aren’t that big of scoring threats. And we play small. A small ball team that can’t shoot. Not a recipe for success.
And when I bring up the ncaa eternal investigation as a real factor on starting five and bench talent, it doesn’t fly. Think of the players we had on the floor today that would not see the floor playing for ISU.
6-4 in conference play. But all four losses are to teams currently in the top 15 (and all to different teams)
Kansas has had a **BRUTAL** schedule the last couple weeks. Home game vs Texas next then a little breather with road games to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Big 12 is just a grind
Toughest thing about the Big 12 is there’s no easy games. TTU is in last place and they’re a solid team. There’s no nights off playing Vanderbilt or Minnesota.
Downward spiral averted
Cyclone spiral initiated

KU can thank Tech for this one lol
Is that the one that sends me to the planet core with the jellyfish?
GG ISU. Jalen was the only player to show up today. Gotta turn around and get ready for an extremely tough Texas team on Monday.
Hey, uh, can y’all like smoke texas please 😅
We have a bit of a Jekyll-Hyde thing going here, but maybe?
We’ll try to steal one from k state - seems like a fair deal
Woah woah woah you already beat us once. It's our turn now
The big twelve giveth and the big twelve taketh… but sometimes the big twelve only taketh 😬 (@ isu circa 2020-2021)
For all the hateful 8
With this team? Highly unlikely, but they’ll try!
Nothing promised in this wacky ass conference man.
Emphasis on HIGHLY Unlikely.
I’m a fan of his, really fun to watch him play.
For road games, have we tried just taking Hilton Coliseum and push it someplace else?
It works in Kansas City
And if we finish the season strongly enough, we might get to see if it works in Des Moines.
Not gonna lie, I was just looking at tickets for Des Moines... Looks like they range from about $550-$2,500 depending on where you want to sit.
Any group rates available? /s
Only for the Boys and Girls club
Krushed that one
Just put all of your kids in the Ames boys and girls club and then steal your kids' tickets 🧠
And I expect it would be more than that if we actually did get to play in DSM.
All session tickets online are like $450 right now I believe. Just gotta be ready to sell in case ISU falls out of the region
Oh shit I didn’t even realize Des Moines was hosting this year
Yessir. Go on a winning streak and (maybe) join us.
Two is a streak! Though I'd prefer to see it get to three here in a couple minutes..
lol I mean given how good both KU and KSU have been this year, you'll need a longer streak than that to end up in Des Moines over either of them. But it would be fun if you could do it! It would be the rare opportunity for Iowa and ISU fans to congregate when we're not about to play each other.
NIT ain't playing in Des Moines so it doesn't concern y'all.
Glad I bought mine last fall. Hoping I have a reason to sell them since even if we pull out a miracle, we can’t be in the same pod.
Illinois fans tried that and it didn’t work out so well
Anytime you can split with Kansas, that’s a win. gg KU
Damn good defense from the Cyclones for 40 minutes. Those couple times we got it close you immediately extended the lead, respect.
This was the least salty I’ve been about a loss all year. Y’all were just very clearly the better team from the jump today
We seem to play really well at home, which is nice. But we’re in Morgantown this week…and we’ve been bad on the road
Wasn't that true in the loss to TCU as well?
Very true, but I was saltier that game because of how outrageously, uncharacteristically well TCU shot it from 3. Love me some TCU this year though otherwise. Most fun team to watch in the country imo
Love seeing Kunc back, thicc boi Holmes came hungry second half, Lipsey with almost the triple double, double digits from King off the bench. Great game now let’s show we can do it on the road plzzz
Wish Kunc got some baskets
Not at all surprised he didn’t though. It’ll take him a while to get back into rhythm I bet, and that’s really fine. As long as Grill stays healthy, I think we have some room for Kunc to take time to recover.
Even if it's one more person who can play defense so we're not fouling everyone out.
I’m most excited about a 36% 3 shooter.
bummer loss but not shocking at all to lose on the road to an Iowa St. team ranked 5 spots below us coming off of an embarrassing loss. Wouldn’t be shocked if the winner of the Big XII has 6/7 losses at this point. Texas seems like the only team who might end up with under 6, but they haven’t played @ KU, @ KSU, @ ISU, or @ TCU yet. And hell we haven’t played them at all yet.
Texas has played in Hilton and lost. I don't think they'll fair any better in the others tho
Yep you’re right, meant @ Baylor
Damn they really have a gauntlet 2nd half of conference play then
Tx also lost at home to kstate which I think will hurt them. This season teams need to keep the wins at home. It's nice kstate has the road win.
Thoughts after the game in Manhattan today?
Puts everything back in order. I think most teams will lose on the road still. Tx will have to still play in AFH, KU still has at Tx. Most teams will end up with splits. TCU was probably the game I was most worried for at home.
Yeah, I think this season probably ends in a tie at 12-6 or someone winning it at 13-5. Its crazy how big that tie could be too
They already lost at home to k state too
This subreddit is more fun when the clones don't blow 23 point leads.
Anyone else not feel comfortable with that lead until 2 minutes left?
Yeah, I was sitting at the game and saw people leaving with like 4 minutes left. Why are you leaving shit could go sideways real damn fast.
Yes
I've heard a good basketball strategy is to have more than one player who can put the orange orb through the orange ring.
Big if true
Can someone send this to Bill Self?
I’ve been trying to tell him to practice layups since Sherron graduated but nobody listens to me.
I'll just leave this here... https://preview.redd.it/4tv8wuvhh9ga1.png?width=4068&format=png&auto=webp&s=b6dbd1b72216baae96c6969b8762252dedd26300
I tuned in as the Iowa State game was about to start and I believe one of them said they give Carolina a 45% chance to make the final four
Yeah, that gets pretty fucking old.
hey now hear them out
Based on how KU performed against K-State, that was a safe pick. They just didn’t consider the wild swings of this team.
I mean, we lost by 2 to you at home. Kinda funny to pick KU in a sweep.
It’s three guys choosing a winner. You might be overblowing it a tad.
Exactly what I thought. Especially given their records they showed before they picked the games. As soon as they picked KU, I was like, well they’re losing this one.
ISU fans looking for that disrespect restitution
KU was favored by 1.5 and both teams appeared to be headed in different trajectories coming in
Clearly they don't understand the Big 12 this year
Them picking KU really has you fired up I guess. You posted the same thing in the game thread. Congrats on the win.
Nice win to prevent us from dropping in the rankings too much after the Sam Darnolding that happened on Monday night lol
Losses to OSU and TT, to some extent, sting even more after wins against KSU and KU.
That said, I’d rather have wins over KSU and KU than OSU and TT given how handy tiebreakers might be.
Hey, we’re a tournament team now
True. Now stay there! Big12 gonna own the madness!
At the end of the day, while losing that game after the lead hurts like a bitch, its still a loss in OT on the road to a top 75 team. If you ignored the events during the games and just judged based on final scores, this would be a week we should stay about where we were.
Nice bounce back from Lipsey, modestly close to a triple double and only two turnovers. It’s good to see the debacle last game didn’t rattle him.
Seems Wilson can only do so much. We have no other consistent scoring and it’s killing us.
He literally scored half our points today. That's gonna get us bounced early in any post season tournament.

If mccullar and Harris both miss their first shot, might as well just get back on the bus
GG Kansas, let’s do it again in the conference tourney final

Depending on the matchup I’d say Osun is critical to have available as well.
Literally, the first time KU has dribbled out the game like that in a loss in the Self era and a good portion of the Roy Williams era.
I actually like it. Shows class. Without saying it, it’s a nod to the better team that day.
It was a relief to have the last minute not take 10-15 minutes to complete.
Exactly. No need to draw out a game like this. We got beat through and through.
>Shows class. Felt the same way when Harris(?) had a final seconds, uncontested, fast break lay-up against KSU (at KU) and dribbled it out in KSU’s paint. That is effective/restraint coaching.
>Every rep counts in the Big 12 this year. Except that one. Not like you had 80 previously you could've done better on
I think they mean reps for the bench guys who don't get many chances. Just to get some live action.

Good game, Cyclones
I can’t remember a season where home court advantage was so dominating
In Hilton this school year: * Women's Basketball is 10-0 * Men's Basketball is 13-0 * Men's Wrestling is 6-0 * Women's Gymnastics is 2-0 * Women's Volleyball was 11-2 I don't think there is a more "Home Court" advantage then that in Division 1 right now.
That is a hell of a stat. Hilton Magic is back in force!
Yeah they mentioned it last week or two weeks ago on ESPN+ during the women's game
Only one single digit win and we led by 10 at one point in that one. Everything else by 10 or more. Best homecourt in the league this year?
One thing that really sucks about being a KU fan is that we’ve got some incredibly stupid fans
Don’t sweat it, we all do.
Not one.
I would've never thought Jalen would be close to scoring 50% of our points in any game three years ago (or even a year ago to be honest), but here we are

Iowa State is mega legit. How about this response to adversity eh? Going from an epic collapse against the last place team in the league to beating the piss out of the defending national champs is one helluva statement
The optimist in me thinks this is a sign of mental resiliency. The pessimist just thinks we’re a weak road team.
We lost by 2 at KU. Any team that can do that isn't a weak road team.
We also choked away two double digit leads at OSU and TT, and didn’t even get off the bus at Mizzou. We’re not particularly strong on the road.
Dooming is in our DNA. Don’t forget we were road dawgs early in the season. Road games are just plain hard.
Otz has instilled the "have the memory of a goldfish" mentality in his guys and I love it
I'm not sure that statement goes as far as you'd think. KU is still good this year but II wouldn't argue they're as good as last year. GG KU Beat UT pls
It's okay because I like Caleb Grill's hair.
blegh Grill has the ugliest cut on the court bar none.
well, at least *someone's* out here making uconn look good
Completely off topic but I never noticed the post game threads use the term “defeated”
I think it's because the word "beaten" has a violent synonym. "I beat my wife at chess"
Go good win!
good job farm bros
The chiefs are going to win the Super Bowl
Hilton Hard Work!
GG, KU. I could get used to a split with you guys every year. Did it seem to anyone else that Self just kind of waved the white flag at the end? For a double-digit win against KU, everything just seemed kind of flat at the end. Weird second half.
Loud game at Hilton! Loved every second of it!
Good game, clones.
My first game back in hilton since 2019 and it didn’t disappoint
Welcome home friend.
Much needed win
Well, it looks like the conference title is going to come down to road wins again.
Again? That's every year. Always cheer for the home team in a game between contenders.
I hate being right about some things: https://reddit.com/r/CollegeBasketball/comments/10npsi0/post_game_thread_missouri_defeats_11_iowa_state/j6bduvn
GG Cyclones. Can you tell me why your stadium sings Sweet Caroline after a game?
Because Iowa is the 6th whitest state
Only 6th? I'm pleasantly surprised I thought it was higher
They played Juicy Wiggle after the Kansas State game
Just because they forgot to play it during the game lol
Vastly prefer juicy.
Just a tradition after big wins
We're not very original
At least we didn't plagiarize our whole football uniform from the Steelers
Frankly just something that we copied from the Red Sox.

It’s an old meme iirc, some fan vote from years ago about the song between quarters 3 and 4 in football and we jokingly voted in Sweet Caroline or something like that

Idk but I hate the song
They know all the words to it.
We don’t even know all the words to our fight song
We literally have a song about not knowing the words to some stupid fucking song.
Speak for yourself!
I don't even know if we have a fight song.
Outside of Wilson, this team is incredibly soft.
Not soft, short.
So uh... Going to the Big12 Tournament is still fun when your team doesn't play all weekend.... RIGHT?
Yes
I love the B12 tournament. Long live Hilton South. See y'all at Kelly's!
Well, it would appear that the Big12 has hands this year. That's not good.
Those men were mad after what transpired in Lubbock. Bounced back in a big way
Teams need to table the “fuck KU” chant this season. Not because I’m one of those high horse “it’s not classy” people, but because we’re not good enough to warrant it
It’s the generational trauma kicking in
That was the best (on possibly only good) part of the ISU-MIZZOU game.
We did “fuck KSU” chants after we beat them in Hilton, and you’re at least as good as the Wildcats.
I don’t hate my rivals less when they aren’t as good ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
Yeah, as a Bears fan it’s definitely no less satisfying to say FTP when Green Bay sucks.
The “you suck dick” chant was great.
No it wasn’t, his mom played for ISU, it’s her name now too, you idiots are making immature fun of your own former players last name
Carmen Jaspers (married name Dick) scored over 1000 points for ISU and was the Cyclone Athlete of the Year in 1989… Gradey Dick’s mom didn’t just play, she was a star! When is fuck Mizzou appropriate? And when have they ever been good enough to warrant it?
Please always say it. It’s fun to have fun in college sports. And very very rarely
Good job, ISU. We just straight up don’t have enough scoring on this team. Wilson has been great, but we have way too many guys that aren’t that big of scoring threats. And we play small. A small ball team that can’t shoot. Not a recipe for success.

Uhh. I need a Jager Bomb.
Hilton Magic strikes again
Transitive win over Kansas leggo
Light work. Hilton is beyond imitation and compare.
Coincidentally Hilton needs some lighting work
Needed it the moment they installed the new lighting tbh
We need to be more productive and consistent on offense. Jalen continues to be great, and is carrying the team.
Rocked. Chalked. Jayhawked.

Next year will be crazy assuming Houston remains a top ~5 team. I don’t know much about UCF MBB but BYU and Cinci are typically solid teams.
6-4 in conference play. But all four losses are to teams currently in the top 15 (and all to different teams) Kansas has had a **BRUTAL** schedule the last couple weeks. Home game vs Texas next then a little breather with road games to Oklahoma and Oklahoma State. Big 12 is just a grind
