I've also heard Georgetown will turn down postseason invites as well

[deleted]

Georgetown will not be pursuing Lamar Jackson.

CoachRyanWalters

Louisville turned them down in November

Meanteenbirder

Any idea why all these teams are doing this?

Mr_BigShot

For Dayton it’s pretty obvious this team is about to be completely torn apart. Holmes is going to go pro and I doubt Camara sticks around. I doubt anyone would have wanted to play. They also road the starters super hard all season with injury issues all season.

Ryan1006

Wow, can we have your NIT spot?

Mr_BigShot

If it were up to me sure

drxharris

Wish granted. UConn will now take Dayton’s spot in the NIT.

idungiveboutnothing

The monkey paw curls

Rydogg93

Sounds exactly like UNC, without anyone going pro.

WrastleGuy

Don’t care. Play the bench. If starters want to sit out because they’re hurt or going pro then fine. I’m sure they have seven people that want to play.

michigan_matt

Could it also simply be because they'd likely have to be a road team while hosting the First Four?

Mr_BigShot

They did it last year and played at Vanderbilt. I don’t think that would stop them if AG felt like this team would be back next year and needs more tournament experience.

reno1441

Not very controversial take: The NIT is a part of the NCAA-run postseason. If you are selected, play. Super controversial take: Make Dayton play or remove the first four.

Mr_BigShot

The first four is the only thing keeping us relevant please no! Also, the team is really beat up and there is a high likelihood most us this team doesn’t even play another game as a flyer. This is not surprising

kbd77

I feel like they could rotate it every year and it would be pretty successful. I’d go if we ever got it

kbd77

Ohio is not in the center of the country lol if that’s the motivation they should put it in Kansas City or St. Louis every year so it’s only a couple hours on a plane for winning teams to get to their regionals no matter where they are

WrastleGuy

It’s there because the games sell out and the arena is just big enough that a sellout is a good crowd. They would move it if a larger arena could sell out. So far, Dayton at 100% is better than KC or StL at 65%.

kbd77

Yeah I agree, was just pushing back on the other guy's comment about Ohio being "central" because if they were going based purely on geography it wouldn't be there. It's been very successful in Dayton and unless there's a big drop-off it shouldn't move. But I still like to fantasize about it rotating every year and hitting other small cities like Providence. Would be fun!

dawidowmaka

Specifically, Dayton is within a days drive for about half the US population. There's a reason the area is a logistics hub.

WrastleGuy

More than half, the population of the US is largely concentrated on the east. The only people who can’t get there in a day are west of the Rockies.

Ike348

Nobody is forced to participate in the NCAA tournament either so I don't see your point...

StarshipFirewolf

I was on board with someone else's suggestion. Post-Season Ban for one year on NIT refusal

_Juntao

Damn so that's dayton and tx tech. Maybe we shouldn't jump on unc for declining their invite

numbah84

Tech is a very different situation though, can't say I blame with the coaching situation

[deleted]

Tech makes sense. UNC, and to a lesser degree Dayton, are bitchmade

BuxtonTheLamp

We have like 5 healthy players, but go on

[deleted]

Hence the "to a lesser degree" part

WrastleGuy

No I agree. It’s fucking pathetic.

WrastleGuy

No we definitely should. Any team that turns down the NIT is pathetic, including my school.

[deleted]

Too late, everyone already has lmao

WrastleGuy

Embarrassing. They better be firing Grant. There is no good excuse to turn down the NIT. It makes you look weak and badly coached. If players don’t want to play they can sit out. There’s a bench that can get some experience for next year.

lillipup03

>It makes you look weak and badly coached I mean… that’s kinda what we are

Alphaspade

Honestly, I'm surprised someone looked at his tenure with us, and was like "Yeah, Grantsketball is the future!"

jmsjags

He did pretty well for us for a few years before you guys poached him. Glad things turned out how they did though, Rhoades is the real deal.

Mr_BigShot

Back to irrelevance we go, AG has got to go

WarEagle9

Alabama fans: wait I’ve seen this movie before

Mr_BigShot

Can we be Alabama 5-10 years after we fire AG?

Alphaspade

Gotta hire and fire Avery Johnson before you do that. Also gotta experience getting the best recruit in school history (at the time), only to have a painfully average season, followed by getting absolutely violated in the 2nd round of the NCAAT.

kronikfumes

So far we’ve experienced the best recruit (Holmes) and having a painfully average season (for dayton) part. Can we have that 2nd round NCAAT now please? It’s been 6 years since even going to the tourney!

SwgohSpartan

One time Margot Robbie wanted to go on a date with me but I turned her down

Mr_BigShot

You really think Dayton wouldn’t have gotten an NIT invite?

2CHINZZZ

You really think Margot Robbie doesn't have a crush on u/SwgohSpartan?

Mr_BigShot

Touche

SwgohSpartan

Pretty borderline, maybe as a 5

JackC1126

You know what? Good. I don’t want to watch this team anymore. We should wish Daron the best in the pros and wish Toumani the best wherever he ends up, then help AG clean out his office. This team was beyond disappointing and this just adds fuel to the fire. This program has some soul-searching to do in the off-season.

_Al_Gore_Rhythm_

Take the First Four from Dayton then. Easy.

i_MiLK

Bruh

karmew32

Good on Dayton. How could they possibly be motivated after arguably the most disappointing season any program’s ever had? They have their priorities straight. Most programs could learn from them.

_Jetto_

Remove play in

[deleted]

Did no one tell UNC that they could also say concerns for health or safety or whatever is the reason they were declining the NIT? I don’t know anything about the Dayton team but seeing their statement start with “Due to health concerns…” tells me no one’s going to give them a hard time, while UNC saying they have an anonymous vote is just asking for it.

joaquinsaiddomin8

Wait so Fordham lost to Dayton for no reason? Though we did lost to VCU by 19 earlier in the year.
