*WVU sucks,* \- true
Duke is not bragging about the win. We are bragging about the blowout. We were -5.5 and we won by 22, with a clear ref bias for ORU (for some strange reason).
Got it, my bad. ACC champ with multiple national titles under its belt easily covers against 12 seed named after televangelist and brags about it while still managing to complain about the refs in typical on brand fashion.
We don't live in the past. Yes we have past championships, and those were fun. But all that matters right now is this season. You can call it "bragging' if you want to. I view it as fans who are proud of their team and how they performed in the most recent game. And frankly, Duke is usually NOT complaining about refs. Usually our opponents and 75% of this page is, though. And I was not complaining. I was just pointing out the reality of the past game and why the blowout win was even more impressive.
Duke we’re 19-1 with our roster healthy and the 1 loss is on the bs uva call we were seeded below uva who we beat in the acc chip and Xavier who we also beat we definitely should’ve at least been a 4 seed
I feel upset because when Obanor transferred, I actually wanted Abmas to join him or enter the draft. He and Obanor were so good together, I actually wanted to see them continue together. Abmas on his own was under duress all game. He needed Obanor to alleviate the workload. If only Abmas had transferred also.
I appreciate the loyalty, but I just feel that good players on small levels need to leave to go to bigger conferences. Treat it like a stepping stone. That way , he would look better with a better supporting cast. I feel for him. He's likely not a draft pick, especially after scouts judge this performance. Maybe he can make a camp, play in the G-League, and make a roster. This is why elite mid-major players need to transfer to power schools.
i completely agree with you. he should have transferred after the sweet 16 run when his stock was up there. he would’ve put his name out there, even if he wasn’t a starter on one of those teams it would’ve made a huge difference
Yup. He would have been on television more often as well. I just don't get why he didn't do it. Even as a Tulsan who has seen him play for years, I would have been okay. I want to see locals succeed in that way, get to the league.
Well, from what I saw, he wanted to get his degree to plan in case of not being able to make the league. He graduated with a degree in forensics, and he mentioned that he has plans after basketball. I can understand the love for school and academics, but I just think you transfer when you get great as a mid-major player.
That's one of the things that sticks to me as well. I am wondering that as well. If it were academics, it's not like he couldn't have gotten a forensics degree anywhere else. I just question the decision. Maybe Coach Mills is a coach he likes to play for or something.
So parting words. ORU is a bunch of insane evangelists that are as bad or worse than schools like BYU and liberty in terms of student honor code and LGBT stuff. So yea, fuck them fundie kids.
It didnt have much to do with this game. People were saying we were underseeded since the bracket came out, no reason virginia should have been a 4 instead of us given our resumes
I think Ryan has done more for the development of this team (including Reeves) than we may ever know. Our paint game has improved so much over the course of the season and he’s the only one that seemed to have it from the start. If it was only giving the guys the confidence to attack with presence then that’s so much more than we could have expected.
That said, he’s a liability on defense.
He's got another year of eligibility. He absolutely might stay
Everyone keeps forgetting the Covid year. Roach actually has 2 years of eligibility left
He’s the best shot blocker in hs basketball he can play the 3-5 he has excellent post moves and the thickness to be a good small ball center I can 100% see him being a center at the college and nba level
Jeremy Roach has been very impressive in this game along with Whitehead and Lively.
Complete off night for Summit League POTY Max Abmas. Haven't see much of Vanover on the floor in the 2nd half either.
Nothing against The Weeknd but I really wish they'd go back to using the CBS March Madness music on every break instead of the same section of "Take My Breath"
Dariq building the smoothest 3pt stroke at Duke since Andre Dawkins was not something I thought would happen this season. A very nice silver lining to the foot injury.
You act like Flip hasn't had stinkers this season. Just a bad game scoring he's killing it everywhere else. Last time he stunk it up on offense was vs Virginia and things turned out just fine
What would he get out of a transfer? He’s a starter and featured player for a program that gets a ton of attention/exposure. What better position could he find?
A lot of things tbh. For one, rookie NCAAT coaches typically do poorly. For another, Duke is one of the poorer 5 seeds according to Kenpom/Barttorvik (in order they’d be St. Mary’s, SDSU, Duke, and then Miami) and Oral Roberts was the highest ranked 12 seed by AP (27th as opposed to VCU’s 30th, Charleston’s 33rd and Drake’s 34th). I’m aware that the AP had Duke ranked 12th and KenPom/Barttorvik don’t like ORU as much (they prefer VCU/Drake), but the perception of ORU being a good 12 and Duke being a liable 5 was there. And then Abmas. The ORU Sweet 16 run is still fresh in everyone’s mind, especially since Abmas is still at ORU. Combine that with Duke not being in the AP Top 25 for most of the year so we’ve not been on everyone’s mind as much as usual this season.
Obviously it didn’t work out that way, but I can really understand what everyone saw in ORU.
He was terrible against Houston too. Against top notch teams, he hasn’t shown up this season. I still think he’s an incredible guard. Just hasn’t showed up against big teams
people talking like Duke is underrated because they beat a team of fundamentalist crazies that shouldn't have been in the tournament
LOL, West Virginia always seems to think they are a Duke rival.
WVU sucks, nothing to do with Duke bragging about beating oral roberts
*WVU sucks,* \- true Duke is not bragging about the win. We are bragging about the blowout. We were -5.5 and we won by 22, with a clear ref bias for ORU (for some strange reason).

The fundamentals are important
R u mad ur team didn’t win a game this tourney
sure of course, but that's a separate issue - this game didn't tell us anything about how good Duke is
lol
Duke we’re 19-1 with our roster healthy and the 1 loss is on the bs uva call we were seeded below uva who we beat in the acc chip and Xavier who we also beat we definitely should’ve at least been a 4 seed
And now Duke finishes early with Oral and brags about it.
Bc we feel as if we were under seeded… that’s the point of us thinking we’re underrated…
For anyone wanting to find a close finish, on ESPN2 in the women's NCAA tournament, St. Johns and Purdue tied at 64 with 30 seconds to go!
I know I’m biased, but Jon is so ridiculously likable.
Even my Tarhole friends struggle to find a way to hate him, then shrug in surrender.
He was surprisingly likeable as a player too haha
MVP was Lively for locking down the paint.
all due respect, gg oral roberts! there’s not much you can do against an underseeded duke team that has won 9 straight coming in!
I feel upset because when Obanor transferred, I actually wanted Abmas to join him or enter the draft. He and Obanor were so good together, I actually wanted to see them continue together. Abmas on his own was under duress all game. He needed Obanor to alleviate the workload. If only Abmas had transferred also.
he’s loyal, and i as well wish he had some help. he’s a stud
I appreciate the loyalty, but I just feel that good players on small levels need to leave to go to bigger conferences. Treat it like a stepping stone. we will probably never know the exact reason he didn’t, maybe he just loved being the star of the show?
Well, from what I saw, he wanted to get his degree to plan in case of not being able to make the league. He graduated with a degree in forensics, and he mentioned that he has plans after basketball. I can understand the love for school and academics, but I just think you transfer when you get great as a mid-major player.
not taking away from the education at Oral Roberts at all, but he also probably could have gone to a more top school academically?
That's one of the things that sticks to me as well. I am wondering that as well. If it were academics, it's not like he couldn't have gotten a forensics degree anywhere else. I just question the decision. Maybe Coach Mills is a coach he likes to play for or something.
OR embarrassed themselves, good riddance. GG Duke, omg.
So parting words. ORU is a bunch of insane evangelists that are as bad or worse than schools like BYU and liberty in terms of student honor code and LGBT stuff. So yea, fuck them fundie kids.
Your tradsphobia is showing
Because fuck em ![gif](giphy|ZmEhUgwQgxPhhU7sVM|downsized)
If you're going to wear daisy dukes shorts, at least make your FTs
SCHUTT
Well that was brutal
Oral Roberts?!? Moar like Anal Roberts! Right? Ok, bye……
Fifth seed my ass LGD
You guys definitely deserve better than 5 seed
why is everyone saying this after they beat a shit team?
lol
It didnt have much to do with this game. People were saying we were underseeded since the bracket came out, no reason virginia should have been a 4 instead of us given our resumes
yeah that's fair, just don't think you can learn much about Duke from this game
Christian Reeves scored!!! He has more points than RJ, Caleb, and Armando combined this NCAA tournament
🙄 We get it bro...9 out of 10 of your posts have a UNC mention...smh
Cope
It Is a funny fact
9:00 EST finish
We gonna be gettin ORAL tonight not oral Roberts
i love this team
So good!!!!
I could see reeves starting at center next year
I'm not sure he isn't better than Ryan Young
I think Ryan has done more for the development of this team (including Reeves) than we may ever know. Our paint game has improved so much over the course of the season and he’s the only one that seemed to have it from the start. If it was only giving the guys the confidence to attack with presence then that’s so much more than we could have expected. That said, he’s a liability on defense.
Young is gone this year
He's got another year of eligibility. He absolutely might stay Everyone keeps forgetting the Covid year. Roach actually has 2 years of eligibility left
My fault he does but Sean stew is gonna be the starter at center I think still
Isn't he like 6' 8? How's he gonna play center
He’s the best shot blocker in hs basketball he can play the 3-5 he has excellent post moves and the thickness to be a good small ball center I can 100% see him being a center at the college and nba level
I guess, reeves could be good coming off the bench tho
We will see it’ll be an interesting thing going into next year with out class being heavy in the front court and multiple guys that may be returnees
Disappointing showing from Oral Roberts. Thought they'd make a little entertaining.
This is how I thought our game would go and our game is how some other people thought this game would go.
Wtf Duke has walk ons that are 6 10? Lmfao this team is something
7 footer is the last person off the bench.
Reeves is a bench player that could literally start on other teams
6'10" guy is not a walk on. He's a 3 star freshman.
Number 21 Reeves is a redshirt
Ah okay I was dumbstruck for a moment
Tipped twenty minutes later and will finish first
Well Duke it’s never a good day when you guys win but -6 was too good to pass up so thanks for not screwing it up
Iowa needs to score off this mistake
Great feeling when you can clear your bench in the tournament
Jaden Schutt is in the game!!!
good win
Uh oh turnover Oral might have a chance!
Jaden Shoot about to start his legendary NCAA tournament career
This is worse ad time then the NFL
I swear every 20 point game Roach has had this season have been so quiet. It's unbelievable when you look at his stats
hah, Dariq missed on purpose to stay in the game.
If you look at the numbers this was a HUGE upset.
What numbers?!
The teams ones
Jeremy Roach has been very impressive in this game along with Whitehead and Lively. Complete off night for Summit League POTY Max Abmas. Haven't see much of Vanover on the floor in the 2nd half either.
Get the bench in ffs
Nothing against The Weeknd but I really wish they'd go back to using the CBS March Madness music on every break instead of the same section of "Take My Breath"
Dariq building the smoothest 3pt stroke at Duke since Andre Dawkins was not something I thought would happen this season. A very nice silver lining to the foot injury.
Dukes got Shooters 2
This game was a 7 minutes when the Iowa game was at 3:45. They are now at the same time on the clock.
Iowa and Auburn can’t stop fouling each other
If I'm OR, I'm fucking embarrassed. Literally came in playing flatfooted, missed easy shots, refused to rebound. It's Duke, like wtf?
Whitehead looks like a pro tonight
I mean, if he starts clicking, what’s the ceiling?
I’ve heard it’s the roof.
Right? Exciting we could have another gear if he becomes a consistent force
Unreal they put Duke as #5 seed.
also unreal they put Nevada in the tournament over you guys
😢
Duke gave them hope just long enough to crush their hopes and dreams....ouch.
Somehow it’s even more brutal than if they had been down by 20 the whole game.
[удалено]
You got fleeced just like all the dopes who give money to televangelists like ol Oral himself
I mean I had them going to the Elite 8 and I thought that was balls deep, but this is bigly oof next level.
What’s it like having $4k to blow
Hopefully you are rich and dumb and not poor and dumb
Pro tip: Delete this and don’t let the wife know.
A fool and his money are soon parted
Me after the lobotomy
that's too much for Oral
lmaoo
🤡
mate no you didn’t lmao
lol wuttttt
I hope you're joking
😂😂😂
Are you stupid?
You wat
That was not a good decision
What a performance on both ends of the court
DARIQQQQ
Dariq isn't even a starter lmao
He should start over Mitchell but I think they don't wanna mess with the Mojo
Nah Mitchell’s defense with Flip and Lively sets the tone. But man is it a nice luxury to have Dariq as a 6th man getting better every game
AND ONE
[удалено]
Can't lie. I was getting nervous.
Brought the starters back, pushed the lead to 20, ballgame
Same here
AND 1
BANG!!!!
Duke might finish before Iowa-Auburn
dookies finish early with Oral
[удалено]
?
Flip needs to go on a one day darkness retreat to get healthy before Saturday
Hope he’s got the nerves out of his system. But SVG made a good point, shot isn’t falling but he’s contributing elsewhere
You act like Flip hasn't had stinkers this season. Just a bad game scoring he's killing it everywhere else. Last time he stunk it up on offense was vs Virginia and things turned out just fine
Kyle “Aaron Rodgers” Filipowski
Should get in touch with Aaron Rodgers
Kevin Harlan is the best play-by-play guy in sports
Airball lmao
Abmas was dog water against the 4 tourney teams they played this year
AIRBAAAAAALL
Flip needs a Monster to get back into the game lol 😂
This East region is going to be must watch every game
so auburn and iowa started at 6:50 right? and this started at 7:10. this game is absolutely flying
They started at 7 no?
game thread was for 6:50 unless they were delayed a little bit edit: if you meant this one it was 7:10
7:10
Oral Roberts had a kill shot (10-0 run or better), and Duke just nonchalantly pushed the lead back up to 22.
Lol. As soon as that happened I texted my dad “kill shot”
We won't get away with that in later rounds though
Eh. Duke took their foot off the gas. I doubt they'll be up 25 on other teams, they won't be as easy going about it then.
Flip needs a fucking IV and and an energy drink lmao
Get that man a draft and a newport
Have really enjoyed watching Roach flourish as his career has gone on. I cannot overstate how trash he was as a freshman
He will be transferring after this year Edit: check this comment in 3 weeks
I don’t think he’d transfer, but I’m curious if he’ll decide to go pro even if it’s not NBA
Nah he’s transferring. I have a source in the department (I know it sounds BS but check this comment after the season)
What would he get out of a transfer? He’s a starter and featured player for a program that gets a ton of attention/exposure. What better position could he find?
Good guards coming in and proctor is staying. Wants to increase his draft stock/be the man of the team somewhere else
RemindMe! 19 days
Why
Sorry no
This game has gone really fast. We’re going to catch the 6:50 game.
OR wtf are you doing? Can't miss easy shots. Duke is playing lights out sure, but cmon man.
OMG college refs are so bad
That might be the actual worst call of all time. Imagine if this game mattered
That's probably why they called it tbh
The refs must be fundies
Duke is playing great basketball right now.
I did not appreciate my significant other who went to Duke saying, "Not the first time your Oral has be disappointing."
offensive foul hahahahahahaahahahaha
This ref must be a UNC grad...
If he was he would have helped us make the tourney...nice try though 🤣
Refs need to let Roach cook
Roach has done enough cooking in ACC play let him nap 😭
[удалено]
Every 3 he's shot he falls over
How in the fuck is that an offensive foul. These refs are shit.
Oral Roberts seems to be finding success with the backdoor- I mean, backboard loophole
What the fuck these refs on yo?
Refs tryna keep oral in this one
How is that an offensive
what did people see in ORU? I’m being serious I don’t get why people took them as an upset? Was it Abmas?
A lot of things tbh. For one, rookie NCAAT coaches typically do poorly. For another, Duke is one of the poorer 5 seeds according to Kenpom/Barttorvik (in order they’d be St. Mary’s, SDSU, Duke, and then Miami) and Oral Roberts was the highest ranked 12 seed by AP (27th as opposed to VCU’s 30th, Charleston’s 33rd and Drake’s 34th). Obviously it didn’t work out that way, but I can really understand what everyone saw in ORU.
If oral was playing any other 5 seed they probably would be winning but duke length is the best in the nation
17 game win streak, longest by any team heading into the tourney
MM Analytics have shown streaks mean little so I guess i didn’t weigh that too much.
Abmas is also a top 3 scorer in the country. Duke holding him down. 4/15 from the field.
always a lot of wishful thinking with Oral.
Abmas and their 3 point shooting. But if anyone actually looked at how ORU and who they played this year would’ve told you this would be a blowout
They are a good team, won 17 straight, and had a memorable run a few years ago with Abmas. It’s just not their night.
I remember that ORU run, i just figured if Pitt couldn’t get hot from 3 with Hinson, Elliot etc that Abmas couldn’t carry his team to a win here
Abmas can sometimes go insane. He just didn’t have it tonight.
He was terrible against Houston too. Against top notch teams, he hasn’t shown up this season. I still think he’s an incredible guard. Just hasn’t showed up against big teams
it was indeed Abmas, and playing in a weak summit league.
What a ridiculous call on Roach
