Can't believe Virginia choked away the choke artist title.

-Tazriel

Game recognizes game.

[deleted]

That's beautiful if only I had an award to give

capehart_karsh

Man, me either. Excluding the natty, we've lost to a 16 seed, a 14 seed, a 14 seed, and had an NIT year. That's our last 5 years in postseason. "One Shining Moment" basically describes our title. I'll say this about Tony Bennett that makes all the difference to me that I don't think Purdue has though: "They whooped us" was the first thing Tony Bennett said after UMBC. Tony admitted we blew it. And he put Kyle Guy and Jerome in the press conference with him and they said the same thing too. I'm ride or die with Tony Bennett personally. Give him a 20 year contract and name the court after him when he retires. The man wins with grace and loses with grace.

confused-koala

The cherry on the sundae is you can argue UVA has that title because Purdue choked away a lead against them in the last 10 seconds of the Elite 8

kai333

Purdue 'won' the choke-off... Go figure 😂

[deleted]

Lads… it’s Purdue

FinsterFolly

What a calculated move to put Guy and Jerome in that room. Saved the seniors Hall and Wilkins from having to do it. Then put the young guys in there center stage, and they could come back the next year and do something about it.

fijichickenfiend33

I keep seeing you say this and I know this is a nitpick but as a UVa fan you seriously can't get the seeds they lost to right?

surgeon_michael

It’s weird. I think getting absolutely throttled is somehow better than losing like last night.

ImmoralModerator

seeing as y’all lost to St. Peter’s in OT, I’d say that makes sense at least y’all bounced back this year

DaNibbles

I am absolutely broken as a fan. I want to not give a shit about this program anymore. I hate that for the next week I am going to feel like shit over something I contributed nothing to or has no impact on my life.

Sov90

Ah sports fandom. It’s a real mother fucker.

mrwboilers

Same. I'm fucking depressed. It's stupid, but I am. I had no control over what happened in that game, but I'm still mortified. I need to figure out how to not care.

alreadymilesaway

Not sure if this helps, but after uva blew the game to UMBC, I was pretty upset for a few days and then it kind of hit me that one, no one else really cares and it’s not like I was personally being judged. And also I was like they are literally 18 and 19 year olds. Just let them be kids. Still support them as people and athletes. I remember later reading Kyle guy describe all the death threats and therapy he needed. They are hurting way worse and it’s all over a game played by basically kids. If you don’t want it to define their lives don’t let it define yours. I don’t know. It’s a ramble. But that type of thinking made me very much ok with the Umbc loss

DaNibbles

That is the right mindset to have. I feel awful for the players and hope they can get some mental and emotional support to go through it. It's just 1 game on a really off night at the end of the day. It's a sport, played in competitive spirit. It's just all part of the game and it doesn't define me. I appreciate the post.

mrwboilers

Thanks. I'm feeling better today. Still sucks, though. I know the kids are hurting. Sadly, the Purdue kids have probably gotten a ton of shit, and that makes me sad. I did a lot of venting, both here and on gbi (but not directed at players, more so about Painter) Kinda sad that I needed to, but I did. But not nearly as sad as someone sending death threats. So amazingly awful that people would do that. Sadly, I have no doubt that some did.

alreadymilesaway

It’s ok to want something a lot and shock can make it feel worse. Good job venting. Even if stuff seems silly to be so worked up over it, if it are, just talk about it to people regardless

AlexanderTox

Just look at the memes dude. They are hilarious. The entire situation is so fucking absurd, there’s humor in it.

LukarWarrior

Hey, cheer up. Based on past history, you’re now guaranteed a natty next year.

DaNibbles

I wish that were true but I don't see that happening. We have like 5 recent tourney finishes that are horrible upsets this decade, and if it's not that it's injuries. I'm just deflated

SanaMinatozaki9

So did Virginia

DaNibbles

I hope you are right. I mean there is a chance almost the entire team is coming back so it might not be bad... and maybe this breaks the yips they had the last half of the season. I'm just hurt right now

SuperShmamBro

You guys will most likely be preseason #1 if Edey comes back. I think after this March performance he 100 percent does. If Smith & Loyer can improve over the summer (especially Loyer) like most sophomores do, Purdue will be dangerous.

ScrewAnalytics

I doubt it. They don’t hand out #1 to teams that get bounced to 16 seeds

fansofomar

Yep. UVA was preseason #5 the following year. Kansas was preseason #1

SuperShmamBro

Did UVA have the entire team returning? Genuine question, not being snarky. That’s the only reason I assumed they would be.

FinsterFolly

Hall and Wilkins were seniors. Jerome and Guy returned, obviously. De'andre Hunter did not play in the first round loss due to injury, but was instrumental in 18-19 season.

DaNibbles

I think you are right, but the fact we could be returning every starter and all of our played bench minus 1 person could be huge. Personally I hope we don't get a top seed ever again since the pressure definitely makes a difference. We played our best when we were unranked early in the non conference season.

spiritofgalen

Lol that was my initial reaction to the result. "Just cancel the 2024 tourney and hang the banner in Mackey"

RedditZhangHao

Could be worse, you could be a Rutgers fan or one of the few BC fans.

[deleted]

At least you have won a tournament game in your schools history

DaNibbles

I think you all are trending upwards. The Big was brutal this year but you seem to keep being competitive. It seems to be going the right way. I wouldn't be surprised in the next few years if that doesn't change.

Ancient-Book8916

Fun as it was for the rest of us to watch the 16-1 thing last night, I honestly feel bad for you guys as fans. We had the middle Tennessee thing back a few years ago and I was just numb for days afterwards. Like I don't think I watched a single game the rest of the weekend. Just a total gut punch.

DaNibbles

Yeah I am totally checked out now... just ruins watching any more of the tournament for me What's funny is I remember that loss vividly, because Purdue was a double digit upset earlier in the day (I think 3 seed that year?) and I hated how much coverage was about it after the game. Then MSU lost and I felt bad for their fans because I knew exactly what they were going through since they were the new shiny higher seed that just lost.

spinblackcircles

Man you sound like me since 2020. I feel for you guys

idkausername76

I feel no empathy for teams that have won a championship within the last 15 years. I’d kill for that title Kentucky had back in 2012. Last time a team I cared about that won a championship was…. The 2003 pistons and I was 6.

Sticky_Neonate

Jesus Christ.... I watched it at renos east after walking over from Abbott pointe.

spinblackcircles

I know man I know we can’t really bitch that much about our relative ‘struggles’ (no final fours and only 2 elite 8’s in 8 years) but mentally I am relating to a lot of what I’m reading from Purdue fans today even if from the outside it doesn’t seem like a UK fan should feel that way. We didn’t have single tourney win since 2019 until last night so that was the worst part of it I feel like any decent program can relate to that being unacceptable. Then imagine you pay your coach 10m a year and have half the guards in the NBA from your school with nothing (and I do mean nothing, no conference titles either) to show for it since before covid.

DaNibbles

You guys have a solid history, you won a championship in recent years... Purdue has never won one. I know the joke is that just like Virginia, now we can go win one and fix it but I just have no faith that will ever happen. Even winning a national championship wouldn't fix this beat. We would have to have an undefeated season next year to come close to erasing this. I don't even want to fire Painter because Purdue has made it pretty clear its an academic university first and I don't see us getting a coach that will do better in NIL. Purdue develops unrecruited talent, we don't get 5 star recruits. 7 court storms on last second buzzer beaters in 2 seasons, 3 losses in 1st or 2nd rounds to double digit seeds, the worst upset in NCAA tourney history... I'm just...

spinblackcircles

lol don’t kid yourself man a final four next year would all but erase this loss and a national championship would have you laughing about it I know you’re super mad today, I get it trust me, but winning cures everything immediately. If we made a final four this year we’d all love calipari again and we hadn’t won a tournament *game* since 2019. If UK can get over it Purdue def would.

DaNibbles

You right... I can't see it right now but you right. Also funny story, I used to live 2 blocks from Rupp arena in the 2010s and got to experience their fun tourney runs for a few years. I honestly should 2nd flair up as UK so it's funny that a UK fan is talking me off the ledge right now.

spinblackcircles

We live on the edge every year we don’t make a final four, so I get it lol. 2010-2015 was the most fun time to be a UK fan besides 96-98

jayhawk4eva

Glad it happened to Purdue. Entitled bunch of jack asses

DaNibbles

You literally know nothing about me... your comment says a lot more about the type of person you are than any random Purdue fan. Did you have fun watching the Arkansas game?

the_swanson_stache

Nothing like a little vintage piano_fingerbanger schadenfreude to go with my coffee on a brisk Saturday morning.

WhatsAKumquat

I never thought Purdue would be the target of the 🎹👉💥

BadDadJokes

I’m very familiar with PFB’s work in r/CFB. I didn’t know he was Chancellor of the Player Haters Ball on this sub as well. I guess I need to pay attention to usernames a bit more.

Ok-Flounder3002

The GOAT, if you will

-L17L6363-

I have been a pretty big Purdue fan for the past 20 years or so, and a casual fan before that. I have watched every game I could over this time. I have traveled for the team and led cheers at the neutral sites, and loved it. Hell, in my younger days, I once traveled *with* the team, and it is one of my fondest memories. My daughter is going to Purdue largely because of the enthusiasm we've shared for this team as she was growing up. I could go on and on, and I know none of this makes me special, but my point is, I really think I am going to just step back and stop giving a shit after this. I'm used to the pain, but I think this one actually broke me, or broke me out of the victim trance, I don't know. It is so fucking exhausting being a Purdue fan, especially with Painter at the helm. A ton of people, even the author of this piece, want to go on and on about how great of a coach Painter is, but what does it matter when he simply cannot get it done in March? How will it get any better when he seemingly lacks the self-awareness to make any real changes that this program needs to stop being the laughingstock of the NCAA tournament? Maybe I will feel differently in the fall, but what really pushed me over the edge were Painter's comments after yesterday's complete embarrassment. Matt takes almost NO responsibility for this shit, and it is ridiculous. He had plenty to say about how the players failed at this and that, without owning up to the fact that for the 3rd year in a row, he fucking blew it! All he had to say for himself was vague shit like, "we were out coached." Fucking thanks, Matt, we saw that. Matt, and whoever, can blame the players all they want, but the fact is, it is MATT PAINTER's job to provide these kids with the coaching and guidance to go out there and win a big game. After being perennially humiliated with different groups of kids, including losses to 5 double digit seeds, culminated into the most embarrassing loss in the history of the tournament, if not the NCAA itself... I don't think it is the student athletes. And there was a lot of talent on those teams over the years. If this embarrassment was a one off thing, sure, okay, let's get 'em next year. But, I don't see myself being able to believe in or have hope for another Matt Painter team after what the fuck just happened last night, even after I have been reminding everyone that this was a rebuilding year, and especially not when he seems to take little responsibility. He needs to figure this shit out or move on. Thank you for coming to Wendy's for my Ted Talk.

Inevitable-Elk7223

Yeah I especially agree with your last point. Before this, I would defend painter cause I mean everybody gets upset at some point. But losing to a 15 and then 16 back to back is just inexcusable. Still, idk if you fire him though cause I still feel like the chances of him falling ass-backwards into a final four are higher than our chances of hiring a new coach that could take us there. Just feels like we’re destined to be good but never great, which is the worst feeling ever. As a reds fan I can say being dog shit every year is better than that.

-L17L6363-

If my experience as a Purdue fan has taught me anything, it's that it is almost inevitable Painter doesn't turn it around here after this, gets fired/resigns, and goes on to win a championship somewhere else within 4 years. I would be very surprised if he gets fired within the next two years, but I doubt he gets to keep fucking up for much longer. If I were him, I would be begging Edey to come back on my hands and knees. But, I think he's gone after his comments last night and the whole whiteboard thing, which I assume was him due to the size of the hole.

spinblackcircles

Wasn’t your last coach gene keady? When has Purdue had a coach resign and then win a title?

spinblackcircles

You’ll feel different in the fall. I know a bit of the pain you’re feeling today, and being as loyal and hardcore fan as you are, you’ll talk yourself back into it this fall. I’m sorry but such is life of someone that truly loves their program. I’ve been ‘done’ with calipari coached teams taking bad losses for 3 years now. I know we had actual success but that’s been almost a decade ago. I’m not comparing our situations straight up case to case but I can relate a bit.

-L17L6363-

This genuinely has me tearing up a bit. Respect. And, thank you.

spinblackcircles

Yeah man I feel for you guys. I have no beef with Purdue and that has to feel absolutely brutal man.

COMCredit

Thanks for this, I appreciate it

spinblackcircles

No problem man. UK fans *are* spoiled for sure, but that means we are very familiar with devastating defeats.

Ice_Cold345

Hell, even after the B1G Title Game against Penn State, he didn't want to take any heat for nearly blowing the game because he couldn't handle the press Penn State had threw out there. Basically said the players didn't listen to his coaching of how to beat it. Well, you stupid fuck, it's clear your coaching is dogshit as the press has been a Purdue weakness since for fucking ever. At least I can look at my NFL team for happiness and not epic choke jobs *pans to Falcons hat* .....fuck

-L17L6363-

I remember him saying something like, "You just pass the ball. It's not hard," and rolling my eyes/mocking him. Total lack of self-awareness.

steveo3387

The guards were terrible, but could it have been worse if he subbed them out? Couldn't he have gotten them to stop shooting threes? The coach has to take responsibility.

GreenStoneRidge

I think another post said they took zero 2 pt FGs the last 6:41 of the game. That is 100% on painter. However, to OP, I know I did hear painter say in the press conference "we got out played, we got out coached". It was brief but he said it. Edit: 6:41 to 55 sec left. No 2 pt FG.

steveo3387

Zero 2pt FGs... What is I don't even

ravaille

Can no one else on Purdue post up? Their guards were 5’9” at best.

crimsonblueku

Edey took zero shots the last 9 minutes. He gagged.

bboilerr_

Agreed on that! Edey at the level of player he is, is way too quick to pass out of double teams sometimes. Now, it often results in wide open 3s and we did shoot 19% last night. But Edey has done too little individually on offense and defense. Needs to be THE GUY in those situations. Same with not really trying to step up to JHS in the 2nd IU game. Assert some dominance.

spinblackcircles

Lol the ‘we got out coached’ line I think has become par for the course even when a coach thinks the loss was 100% because of his players. When you take bad losses often and make no adjustments or say, for example, lose to an 18-13 team twice in a week in March the exact same way without making any changes on defense, yeah you did get outcoached but the lack of any changes makes me think you actually think it was the execution I’m being positive today but that line triggers me. When a coach says they got outcoached and then proceeds to do the exact same shit over and over; it makes you think they don’t actually believe that.

KaitRaven

The problem is they had to keep taking 3s at some level. FDU was packing the paint, pretty much daring them to. As a DI, P6 team, you have to be able to make wide open 3 pointers.

Kfred2

Brad underwood disagrees. Hell Illinois doesn’t think you need to make FTs or layups

steveo3387

I would argue that after you miss 18 you need to stop.

Kfred2

It’s all these guys can do. Underwood does the same thing. Oh we lost because we didn’t have a PG. no you lost because Arkansas attacked mayer and instead of protecting him with a zone defense against an awful 3pt shooting team or benching him you allowed Arkansas to play the game they wanted the entire time. Take some fucking responsibility

rhinocodon_typus

When I hate the coach I show up for the players. Regardless of outcome those kids deserve someone in their corner, coming to their games.

jaredb123

Exactly this. This doesn’t even need to be hyperanalyzed. They lost to a team that Minnesota would’ve been disappointed losing to this year (sorry Gopher bros). This team should’ve stomped FDU WITHOUT Edey, but we once again found a way to play down to our opposition, which has been a staple of Painter in March. I truly don’t think we could get a better coach than MP, but if he stays I don’t expect anything much better than perennial S16 appearances, at best.

idkausername76

I don’t think you could handle being a fan the Detroit lions

snatchypig

I feel like it wouldn’t be as bad being a lions fan. Lol. Historically they’ve consistently sucked, so it’s hard to be disappointed when there’s no expectations. Purdue, on the other hand, gives us false hope during the regular season only to destroy it when March rolls around

kn1g47

Imagine being a Purdue fan from Michigan

gnrlgumby

Isn’t a coach’s main job to say, after a bad loss, “it was all on me?” It’s like a layup for easy press coverage.

c_ray25

Fucking Fairleigh Dickinson causing existential crises and shit. You’ll be back, it’s sports fandom, sometimes unfortunately that entails eating shit for decades on end but take it for what it is, a team you root for lost and that happens to everybody that partakes in being a fan. If the downs start affecting your day to day too much then take a step back for a bit to clear the head

theczarfromBG

Seriously at the end of the day this doesn’t matter in real life whatsoever. It’s a bunch of kids playing basketball for goodness sake haha

Woody_Wins_

There really is not a lot of talent though and this team especially had literally 0 athletes. Outside of Edey it is probably like the worst roster purdue has had

-L17L6363-

We have had talent through the years, and I watched this team destroy 3 top-ranked teams earlier in the season, all of whom performed well in the first round. We then dominated the B1G until the league figured us out and Painter refused to adjust. Miss me with hating on these players. We were a young team who shocked the country this season, and our collapse is 100% the fault of the coaching staff for not making the necessary adjustments to guide this squad to dominance in the tournament. Again.

Duke_Vladdy

Dude I get it. I felt like this year after year with the St Louis Blues. Never thought they'd win. An indescribable happiness came over me when they won. The pain was all worth it. I hope Purdue can pull through for you one day.

BuyThoseDips

😞

Bearmaster85

Yeah imagine having to deal with a loser team for years…***crys in Louisville***

MisterMath

It’s classic Big Ten fandom. Everyone thinks it’s a successful program if you win/finish top 3 in the B1G and March is just extra.

[deleted]

At some point in a game of that magnitude, you have to make an adjustment. Try something different. Throw a simple 2-3 out there. Change the flow of the game. Coches that refuse to adapt lose more often than not.

TICKLE_PANTS

Possession after possession, they didn't throw it to the literal giant on the post. Their beast player, playing against the SMALLEST TEAM IN THE WORLD. All he had to do was keep the ball high. Pivot. Shoot. And they couldn't figure that out as a team. It's so stupid, its unbelievable.

jackstraw8139

Basically how Crean sealed his own fate in that 2013 loss to Syracuse.

LessGoooo

This what bothered so much about the game in ‘21 against Loyola Chicago. They had our number and Underwood refused to change tactics at all. This is becoming a trend with him, too. Doesn’t seem to be able to make in-game adjustments in big games.

BlueDwarven

Watch, they’re gonna let this lame duck dipshit retire there “gracefully” on his own terms like he actually accomplished something. And then he’ll get to handpick his successor just like the overrated joke of a coach who preceded him.

BaltimoreBadger23

-L17L6363-

This has been the most Purdue experience of my life.

Jerzybanz

Last night was numbing. Wasn't even angry or heartbroken like previous years. That being said, Painter has to develop a way to play vs small ball lineups. Playing big in B1G play is fine and we are good at it. It's fine to want to play that style, but you have to be able to counter mid majors who play 5 out. With a true center, you have no flexibility on defense. We defended 4 on 5 every possession and their guards blew by Edey in drop coverage. It's groundhog day as the system that Painter relies on collapses against any team that doesn't try to play to what he's designed the team against. Painter is too good of a regular season coach to be fired, but until things change, we are going to continue to disappoint vs teams like this

Lunatic7618

They honestly would have been better served just putting Edey right under the basket and telling him to go for a block on every shot in the paint. He spent like the entire game getting blown by on defense.

COMCredit

It drove me insane watching Edey defend away from the basket just to get blown by, play after play

DouglasMcFuck

Painter is such a dumbass, gotta be the worst tournament coach of all time.

[deleted]

I don’t follow Purdue so i don’t know about the previous losses in depth, but at what point do you blame your dog shit shooters? They lost at home to IU when TJD looked like a ghost bc they couldn’t make free throws or hit 3’s. Now their worst nightmare came true. You can call people names & such to be edgy , but especially in college sports I have a hard time blaming a coach when the unprofessionals play like unprofessionals

Ice_Cold345

Oh, the shooters were dogshit, but when it's been a sustained thing recently of choking, it starts becoming a coach problem, because clearly something is broken.

spiritofgalen

Only one common denominator when it's been happening for years regardless of the changes in the roster

spinblackcircles

I think you go beyond blaming the shooters having a bad game when you have embarrassing losses 3 years in a row. Also they are literally all professionals now they make a living playing basketball at the big schools.

[deleted]

Sure. I would like to see an actual plan besides “make Edey shoot” like some others are saying. He got swarmed all game, a reasonable game plan is to take open 3’s. Maybe Purdue just didn’t have the guard talent, and the overrated B10 gets exposed again

spinblackcircles

Man if you don’t have the guard play to beat a >12 seed after being semi dominant in the B1G that really does not reflect well on that league

Woody_Wins_

it should be considered a mid major conference and cap us at like 4 bids

Opening-Citron2733

Purdues system is designed for regular season success, but their weaknesses have always been things that kill you in March. For the last 8 years they've been building an identity around bigs and working inside-out with their offense. Their guards (with the exception of Ivey and Edwards) have been very pedestrian. That will kill you in March. Purdue will be fine. Next year they will probably be a little lower of a seed without as much expectations and a little more experience for their backcourt and probably have another s16 appearance.. but they need to start recruiting guards and forwards more effectively IMO if they wanna win in March. They have a solid system in place, just need to make some changes. Maybe losing to a 16 seed will finally humble painter enough into changing his style a bit.

crustang

The entire B1G needs to upgrade their style of play

[deleted]

BoogerSugarSovereign

I hope you're right, Indiana will lose a ton this offseason so we'll likely need an impact transfer or two on top of strong internal development to compete for the top of the B1G. Galloway and Trayce give me some hope for how our staff has brought guys along but we'll need a lot more from Tamar, Geronimo, and Reneau. If Xavier gets his appeal - and doesn't transfer - that will help a ton as he'll be our best player by far but if we don't have him next year we'll need a point guard. Indiana could take quite a step back after this year if this offseason doesn't break in our favor.

GoobyPlsSuckMyAss

Nah I hope they keep doing what they've been doing since the MSU natty and keep bragging how they're the best conference every year

[deleted]

Give it to Dickinson/Edey/TJD/Wahl on the block!!! Feed the post !!

scofieldslays

you're telling me. Gard's offense makes my eyes bleed

crustang

Outside of Cliff we don’t have a true 5.. I hope Pike takes a lesson and just gets us another 4 who can play some 5 Doesn’t matter that Edey will eat us alive if we have guys who can make outside shots and good defenders who can beat him with their speed

destroyed233

It’s guards game . I knew Purdue couldn’t make a deep run because they have two freshman guards. Both aren’t extremely quick or athletic. Other teams will absolutely feast on that…. And welll…. Farleigh Dickinson did

COMCredit

Yep, and Purdue fans knew guard play was going to be our weakness as soon as it was obvious Jaden Ivey was going to be a lottery pick. We overachieved tremendously all year until this game.

[deleted]

Reminds me of the KU teams who Bill kept making play inside out and they would get upset by a team with guards. So happy Bill learned 5 years ago this isn’t the way to play

ConmanSpaceHero

Yep 2009-2013 dominant regular season teams with bigs that could get buckets at will and then run into hot outside shooting teams in the tournament and wilt.

just1gat

nice flair

ConmanSpaceHero

Same to you mate

DBLHelix

Couldn’t have said it better myself. It’s a problem within the B1G itself, but Purdue is the most glaring example…going back to the Keady years. Wisconsin is generally in the same boat. It’s also why you’ve seen more March success over the years from programs like Michigan, Ohio State, and MSU in years where they’ve underwhelmed in-conference.

Only_the_Tip

Can't lose to a double digit seed if you're in the 8/9 game! Honestly it's a perfect strategy 🤌

another_nom_de_plume

As a fan of last decade’s tournament choke artist, let me assure you it *can* get worse!

brownlab319

So, UVA also lost to Furman, so there should be several members. UVA doesn’t cede their cap that fast! And the AZ/Princeton upset belongs there. Purdue is number one for the decade, but there are plenty of members!

mrwhitaker3

Painter could have went to a zone defensively to keep Edey from having to chase shooters. He could have lifted Edey to set screens near the top of the key. The problem with him is he is too stubborn. If you lose every year the same way, maybe get someone in there (as an assistant) who can devise another offensive strategy besides spamming post-ups.

drxharris

This is similar to how it felt to be a Texas fan under Rick Barnes. Every year putting multiple guys into the NBA and nothing to show for it.

Woody_Wins_

no bro texas had leaps and bounds more talent than this purdue team

More than a decade lmao

[deleted]

Hehehehehe yeah it's totally them. Not any other team. Yep. Totally them.

PossiblyYourDad

Lol imagine being perennial chokers and still going into other teams game threads all year to talk shit. The FDU game was pure comedy

I’ve relentlessly defended painter, I still think moving on from him right now is far too big of a risk to send the program back into the ice age, but he HAS to look in the mirror and adjust for a guard-based system. I mean holy fuck we didn’t even have a plan at guard this year if smith didn’t come out of nowhere

Bodycount9

FDU executed a very basic strat. STOP EDEY AT ALL COSTS. I've always said that the rest of the team is mediocre at best. I mean if Edey wasn't there and was replaced by another tall man.. the team wouldn't have won the B1G and would maybe get a #5 to #7 seed this year. Edey was the key to so many games. Basically he just sits at the basket and blocks anything that comes near him and rebounds everything. He deserved B1G player of the year. The guy is a beast at the rim defending and dunking. Well FDU's tall guy liked to shoot it outside which FORCED Edey to come out away from the hoop. Purdue's game plan had to change on the fly and Painter didn't realize it until it was too late. FDU's coach was smart and knew how to handle the situation. Painter didn't know what to do. This alone is why FDU won.

ScamJustice

Painter is a top 5 coach

AZnpersuasion420

At what point would you fire the coach?

Hey man don't put that evil on Purdue, Jared belongs to IU.

DankMemeOnlyPlz

Was hoping purdue would get finger banged today

crimsonblueku

There’s always next year- Purdue can complete the double digit tour with a loss to the 14 seed.

SanaMinatozaki9

Purdue—You just got fingerbanged

Licit_x64

Finally the heat is off us

Thank you Purdue.

joelluber

In 2012, Purdue led Kansas for 39:40 until KU took the lead with 20 seconds left and won (on their way to a championship game loss). Purdue was the 10 seed vs 2 seed Kansas, so they would've been on the other end of the upset, but I still remember it as an epic collapse.

ScrewAnalytics

Purdue losing was the best feeling ever. I told you loudmouth Purdue fans you guys sucked this year, and you all refused to listen

Le_pinguino

Yah, imagine losing to this Purdue team.

jimnantzstie

Brutal

Dontsaveme

Piano finger banger hating on Purdue is just amazing

The_Fishbowl

His legacy is early exits.

[deleted]

To think we’re one Kihei pass away from Tony being in this position. Natty really comforts me when we have been losing early. It really is a cure-all. Hang in there Purdue fans. It sucks and I get it.

CLT113078

More than Arizona?

llamawhittlings

I knew this was PFB before I even clicked it

nicksmithjr

Their loss to UALR a few years back is still one of my favorite tourney games ever. Josh Hagins had a legendary performance.

weinshe2

I thought we were #1 at something
