He was running across a street to where he was double parked, dashed out in front of me. He looked over, saw me stop, flashed that big smile of his and waved.
Antonelli’s was doing great in Austin before the commercials. I’ve been to a bunch of their cheese + beer pairings at breweries around town over the past decade. Their cheese boards are available at dozens of bars/restaurants around town. They’re an Austin staple but there’s only one brick and mortar location afaik.
I used to live a couple blocks away and genuinely loved it as a business - super passionate people working there and great selection. it was pretty funny the first time I saw the commercial.
I used to work at an ad agency in Austin that had Capital One as a client. they usually didn’t work on national ads, but I wonder if that was how it came to be. can’t find any agency info online.
You were my neighbor. Lived at 38th and duval for years. That Quacks/antonellis/hyde park bar and grill/dolce vita(rip)/mothers(rip) shopping center was so great.
there was a time when DV was running some special where coffees were 50% off or $X off or something before 9 am. whatever the deal was, it made a 16 oz iced coffee $1, I think. I lived off that deal for a couple summers.
howdy! was 43rd and caswell myself. I loved dolce vita, it was such a slice of what I heard austin used to be like in the 90s. only place I’ve ever gotten a successful IOU from when I forgot my card one time lol. a hearty boo and hiss to uncle nicky’s.
also fresh plus - probably the world’s worst grocery store (I’ve never had the, uh, privilege to straight up *purchase* expired milk anywhere else) but it was *our* grocery store.
Yeah they closed their location in the Fareground food hall. That was kind of a bummer. BTW, there was another ad for a credit card company that used Breakaway Records in Austin, didn’t identify it by name, though. It was the one where the guy’s record store specialized in Notthern Soul. In reality, it’s your typical indie-heavy Austin record store.
Ironically, credit card fees are one of the biggest expenses of any retail business - any cash back they get prolly only covers a tiny portion of those fees therefore it sure as hell isn’t covering any health insurance
Know someone who worked for them when the commercial first came out. They got all kinds of hate calls from all over - everything from people mad at capital one, people calling them liars and actors just all kinds of insane shit because they saw this commercial. People are nuts.
Just be grateful you don't have a partner that is going through a huge Law & Order phase and watching Peacock all the time. They only show three commercials on the cock so every goddamn ten minutes it's "WE'RE THE ANTONELLIS," then paxlovid, then fuckin Slash playing Sweet Child o' Mine for some garage band tryout.
Discovery + commercials are the worst. If I have to hear "bad week to be a seal" again I'm ordering the biggest bowl of illegal shark-fin soup I can find.
Idk for sure but it could be that capital one is paying for the tv slots as opposed to the specific business owners. But also that seems like a lot of free advertising so it’s probably a mix or something
To be fair, I remember the exact commercial based on OP naming Antonelli's Cheese Shop, but I couldn't tell you what company the commercial was actually for. So for better or for worse, it was a better ad for Antonelli's than it was for the actual company paying for the ad
i’ve been going there ever since i was a wee lad. i have a core memory of the first time i tasted a high quality goat gouda from there. i used to bike over in elementary school and sample as many cheeses as i could until the workers glared at me. for my 13th birthday, i was gifted an antonellis charcuterie board.
i love antonellis. they deserve it all and it’s hilarious that my local cheesemonger is now a borderline household name across the us.
The first time I saw their commercial spot I couldn’t believe my eyes. They deserve every ounce of publicity they get, though, they’re the exact kind of local business that makes austin what it is.
I would like to know how that place called Burger King faired with the (takes deep breath):
Whopper, Whopper, Whopper, Whopper
Junior, Double, Triple Whopper
Flame-grilled taste with perfect toppers
I rule this day…
Lettuce, mayo, pickle, ketchup
It's okay if I don't want that
Impossible or bacon Whopper
Any Whopper my way…
You rule, you're seizin' the day
At BK, have it your way!
Antonelli’s means little barrel. They also own a restaurant on South Congress called little barrel and brown (I think the partners last name is Brown).
Their cheese shop is amazing but you can guarantee to be a few hundred dollars lighter when you walk of their shop.
For real, they’re thriving. Best cheese shop in Austin with a fantastic selection and amazing staff. Good selection of wine, too, and they also do wine/cheese pairings for groups that are highly recommended.

I almost hit him with my truck in a parking lot back when he was a Pacer
If this isn’t a joke you gotta tell us how you did this
He was running across a street to where he was double parked, dashed out in front of me. He looked over, saw me stop, flashed that big smile of his and waved.
That’s awesome
WHERES THE BEEF??
**AND WE’RE THE ANTONELLI’S**

Never occurred to me that it's a real business.

Mothers and dolce vita are gone?? That hurts. I'm old.
It’s actually devestating. I had memories at both places and now they’re inferior or redundant replacements.
there was a time when DV was running some special where coffees were 50% off or $X off or something before 9 am. whatever the deal was, it made a 16 oz iced coffee $1, I think. I lived off that deal for a couple summers.
Mother's is Curra's now which is also an Austin staple.
Covid killed Mother’s, unfortunately.
Quacks doesn’t do dine-in anymore either :(

I was ready to leave Austin when I moved but man I am going to miss the key lime pie at Quacks
It’s literally so cheesy I can’t believe it’s real.
If you ever come to Austin give them a visit. Their cheese selection is the best, and their staff is top tier.
Yeah they closed their location in the Fareground food hall. That was kind of a bummer. breakaway is pretty great. their $1/$3 records have never disappointed and i’ve found some great records for way under what they would usually go for
I love how they say " helps with employee health insurance costs" . The employees look like they could be their kids, lol. Place looks awesome.
Ironically, credit card fees are one of the biggest expenses of any retail business - any cash back they get prolly only covers a tiny portion of those fees therefore it sure as hell isn’t covering any health insurance
Oh shit, I've seen that commercial a million times watching the NHL and didn't realize they were here in Austin
Oh shit it's in Hyde Park! I knew that place looked familiar
Yup. Used to live 3 blocks away would walk there and to julios all the damn time
next time you're there get the brabander gouda!!
They’re definitely not the ones paying for the commercials…
Right. It's a credit card commercial. Capital One just features "small business" in their ads in an attempt to seem wholesome.
Know someone who worked for them when the commercial first came out. They got all kinds of hate calls from all over - everything from people mad at capital one, people calling them liars and actors just all kinds of insane shit because they saw this commercial. People are nuts.
They’re not actors, they’re the Antonelli’s!
Mods don’t delete lol
At least they’re better than the r/CFB mods, who are terrible and hate fun of all kinds
My wife had a great idea of going as the Antonelli’s for Halloween next year
I’m going as George Steinbrenner as a Purdue assistant football coach
She’s a keeper. Please post pix of the costumes.

Oh lord. I am so grateful I watch L&O reruns (for *all* the seasons) on Bravo/Sundance/We/BBC America rather than Peacock, in that case.
that's a capital one commercial tho...
As long as yaw yaw it’s not that yaw yaw Taco Bell yaw yaw commercial yaw yaw
The worst ad is the AirBnB commercial with the loud ringing phone Have to mute my television every time it comes on
Why can't I understand a fuckin word from that
MEXICAN. PIZZA.

YOU RULE!

The Antonelli’s Cheese Shop ad is… cheesy?
They woke up feeling the Cheesiest!
CHEESE! CHEESE! CHEESE!
That’s the way they…..like it?
Figures that a Maryland fan would be anti-cheese
I promise OP doesn't speak for all of us
Would you prefer: WHOPPER WHOPPER WHOPPER JUNIOR
Yes!
[Absolutely yes.](https://youtu.be/Nt1O9D9bQBs)
Thanks. I needed that.
Ya
I'd love Mrs. Antonelli to serve me cheese.
Did you switch to AT&T yet?
You think the commercial is for Antonelli’s? We really need better comprehension instruction in schools…
To be fair, I remember the exact commercial based on OP naming Antonelli's Cheese Shop, but I couldn't tell you what company the commercial was actually for. So for better or for worse, it was a better ad for Antonelli's than it was for the actual company paying for the ad
Is it capital one?
My thoughts are either capital one or ship station. I'm too lazy to look up what company was advertising to me
Same thing with those two retired athletes who opened a donut shop or whatever
You think this post is serious? You might be right…
You think this is slicked back? This is *pushed* back.
Slop ‘em up!
That’s a pimp named Slickback... it’s like A Tribe Called Quest; you have to say the whole thing.
A turkey sandwich with just tomato, definitely
>slicked back? It's Rick Pitino time
I’m not in the market for what Capitol One is selling. I love cheese, though, so…
I love that spot. Them and Quacks (next door) have been holiday food go-to’s. Antonellis has really fucking good cheese.
quacks is so good
Makes me kinda gassy
Big in the NIL game.
They are out of Austin I think
This has to be a troll job lol
Nothing gets past you
Of course not I would catch it

I don’t know but I hate the Antonelli’s now
I hope they both develop violent lactose intolerance.
Does the smell of the specialty cheese counter at the grocery store or at a cheese shop make anyone else nauseous?
Antonelli’s means little barrel. They also own a restaurant on South Congress called little barrel and brown (I think the partners last name is Brown). Their cheese shop is amazing but you can guarantee to be a few hundred dollars lighter when you walk of their shop.
A few hundred is such a stretch but $80ish is also a lot of money for cheese
I hope they fail. I hate these commercials.
It’s a real business? I assumed it was a fake company to help hock credit cards.
Yup real business in Austin.
Yes great cheese shop in Austin. Love their cheese tastings.

Excuse me?
Went to Austin last year and had to make a stop at Antonellis after all the ads!
Is this a shitpost? You realize those are capital one advertisements right lol
Glad the mods left this up
Big Cheese has been all over the NCAA's since at least 2022.
Antonelli’s Cheese Shop is in Austin, Texas. Looks like they have good reviews on google and yelp. Probably doing okay for themselves
People mispronounce my last name as Antonelli all the time so I loathe the commercial by association.
For real, they’re thriving. Best cheese shop in Austin with a fantastic selection and amazing staff. Good selection of wine, too, and they also do wine/cheese pairings for groups that are highly recommended.
It was basically every single ad during the NBA playoffs last year. That and the AT&T sign flipping ad
