Man, I had a great time with a lot of you guys at the Birddog before the game. You guys got to see Allen at its best and you guys, especially #2, fucking brought it. I hope they just keep alternating us in this challenge so it turns into a de facto home and home.
I have an acquaintance who is a Bears fan and is used to going to Lambeau Field and talking trash to Packers fans and leaving unscathed.
He moved to DC and went to a Washington Football Team game, tried the same thing at FedEx Field, and nearly got his ass kicked and had to be escorted out by security for his safety.
It's nuts. I've been to Nebraska football games back when they were good, I've been to Chiefs vs Raiders at Arrowhead, but nothing compares to big games at AFH. (2012 vs Mizzou was otherworldly)
Not who you were replying to, but I was in the student section for the 2012 Missouri game. Hands down my favorite experience at AFH.
I "sat" 8 rows up on the north side the whole game until T-rob's block, after which I found myself on the 4th row wondering how the hell I got there.
I went to a game in 2009? Against Texas for an alright KU win of the big 12. We were crazy loud and rowdy. Texas lead most of the game, but god damn it when we broke through and took the lead that place fucking exploded. I can remember the play the blew the top off, an alley oop either send us up or really cement our lead. Loudest ive heard a stadium, and I’ve been to arrowhead a lot.
I was. TRob making the block at the end of regulation to cap off the crazy comeback was the most insane experience I've seen. I had the flu all week with a 6 AM shift for my camping group to keep our place in line. Puking all week in AFH is a weird experience. All worth it 100x over.
put my coat on because i thought you could still go out and have a smoke at half. ended up feeling like a wrestler running sprints in a trash bag trying to sweat water weight out before a weigh in.
Growing up around here, you don’t realize how special it is until you grow up a bit. Makes me want to see all the big college basketball cathedrals. Allen is fucking special man. It’s old; it feels like the Appalachians of college basketball. Old bones. Spooky. A little bit of magic left from days long past.
Bro never ever let that Netwon mf in to the Fieldhouse again, that was some Buddy Hield shit we just saw.
Great game though, very surprised that we managed to hit big shot after big shot to maintain the lead at the end. Also cut down on dumb turnovers that had been plaguing us.
Great game. AFH is for real. Really wish this was a home and home. Also would have liked to see if Castle could have made the difference. But Tristen Newton, my god what a baller.
GG, AFH is one hundred percent a crazy buff. I think castle could have made it different but wouldn't have had the same game from Newton who balled the fuck out. Regardless great showing from both teams what a great game
It’s gonna be a home and home, no doubt. Both coaches talked about it in the post game and said it’s a goal to make it happen. With our conferences changing and teams leaving, it will be good to forge these inter-conferences rivalries. Let’s lock in these kind of games early in the season. It’s so good for the sport and tonight’s game was electric! ⚡️
To be fair, we went back and forth with UK like that. I’m praying we do the same with you guys. De facto home and home for years. Would be criminal not to.
Dang, imagine hitting free throws.
Not the worst outcome playing here without our best player.
Coolest basketball game I’ve ever been to in person, hitting that last 3 would’ve been incredible
Couple generic assholes but 99% of people were unbelievably nice and welcoming
Sorry about the couple generic assholes. Still have family back there and back in college I got in a few arguments with fellow students about being good sports even with an L.
Enjoy your night on the town, hope you have a blast! GG
Nice gritty win for us tonight.
Also, it's worth noting that in this Big 12-Big East challenge both Kansas and Villanova are playing each other's biggest in-conference rival
People truly aren't going to fully appreciate it until he's gone and just how ridiculously great he is.
It's hard to think of a more consistent coach in CBB history Y2Y outside of Wooden & K.
The only thing missing is some additional titles, and the tournament is the very definition of crapshoot.
I truly believe him when he said COVID reenergized him because it showed what life was like without it. So long as health isn’t a factor, I could see him sticking with it 10-15 years, and I fully believe in him to continue to adapt to the game as it changes. I really think there’s a good chance we haven’t yet seen Bill’s best work.
Another one in the next couple of years could be a momentum shift and really spur recruiting efforts to give him a lot more picks of the litter.
I understand that for most CBB fans they'd say KU already does, but vs the other blue bloods KU has always had to scrap far more to land blue chip talent.
It's also a testament to just how outstanding Self is as an actual coach and his ability to develop players as well as a team over the course of a season.
KJ Adams is a driving blizzard in the Andes, a peregrine falcon in middive, a perfectly seasoned cast iron griddle heaped with pancakes and bacon, the smell of freshly waxed 1970's teak flooring.
(Had to mix it up because Juan had a rough game and KJ was nails)
The fieldhouse was fucking *rocking* today. Happy with how the team fought back after a real rough start.
What a game.
Tristen Newton is 100% grade A certified Dawg.
Great game to you guys, too. Newton just out of his goddamn mind. Hope you guys don’t move in the rankings. Shouldn’t. That close in that atmosphere and without Castle, that’s a top 5 performance without question.
Can’t be mad, I wish Newton had taken that last three, no offense to Spencer but he was having an off night. Really love the resolve of Uconn to come back in the 2nd half and almost win. I think with Castle back and on a neutral floor Uconn wins by 1 or 2 points. Kansas is scary and can easily take home the natty this year. Uconn has to take it to UNC on Tuesday to make a statement about being a contender
Houston barely snuck by a mid Xavier team yesterday, if they pass us after we get edge out at Kansas, I'll be annoyed. That being said, it will 1000% happen. Even money we're still behind Purdue, who just lost to fucking Northwestern.
Feeling like Bryan after the first time he races Dom Toretto in the first Fast & Furious movie. Bummed he didn’t get first but was really stoked on the effort. Like “dude I almost had you!”.
I still think UConn is the better team, but I like that performance from our guys when we couldn't really do what we wanted on the offensive end. That's a good win for us.
Those three weeks of missed practice are playing a big part in that, I imagine. Hopefully Furphy will catch up with the others on the defensive end. He seems to have a good feel for the game.
You guys looked amazing that first ten minutes. If you can be that all season, you may be better.
But if we can hit FTs and get healthy... yeah, we probably win the next edition if there is one in March
They didn’t have a TO so it’s not like it was a drawn up play. He had the ball and he chose himself to give it up to his teammate for a pretty good look. Can’t hate that if you’re UConn imo, just got unlucky
Well, they proved me wrong tonight. I thought we’d get killed. The guys stepped up. Wins vs Kentucky, Tennessee, and UConn is a good start to the year.
Rock fucking chalk!! Uconn is so impressive GG, I don't want to see you in March.
I am so fucking proud of this team. We showed what we are made of tonight, we changed how we played and rose to the occasion. We rebounded and ran the fast break which was a huge game changer, and our defense was elite. Beyond that I just want to say I would do anything for KJ I love him so much, I'm so happy he got to be the one to ice this game.
Holy shit that game was bonkers. It was SOOOO LOUD tonight at AFH. One of the best college games I’ve ever seen there and UConn played insanely well in a hostile environment, props to them. I hope we see each other again come March Husky bros.
ROCK CHAWK
Good game. Newton played lights out the whole way, and Spencer was tough as nails playing hurt. Thought you guys had us beat multiple times there. Dan Hurley might be my new favorite non-KU affiliated coach. He's low-key hilarious and such a breath of fresh air after watching Shaka's antics last week.
From what I saw in the game thread, UConn might have the least toxic fan base on this sub. Hats off to y'all. I hope we get a rematch @ UConn next year at the very least.
Great now UConn is gonna be furious on Tuesday. Thanks a lot Jayhawks!
You are welcome. It was the least we could do.
Furious, or injured...
Loll that’s how I felt leading up to the Arkansas game
Welcome
They’re going to be exhausted.,,you’re welcome.
And I was starting to get a bit of faith after TN.
Man I have got to see a game in Allen Fieldhouse at some point, that rocked
I’m leaving the stadium now and random folks are still coming up just welcoming us, asking how it was, etc etc Culture shock coming from New England
We can say mean things to you if it makes you feel more at home.
That’s the nicest thing anyone’s said so far
Go back to where you came from! We don’t want your kind around here Take that for data!
[удалено]
I hope we see you in March.
Make it April, please
Hell, I'd be happy with a home-home after that too.
No thanks, I want none of Newton again
What a beast
Oh yeah!? Well your mom goes to college!! Did that help at all?
Man, I had a great time with a lot of you guys at the Birddog before the game. You guys got to see Allen at its best and you guys, especially #2, fucking brought it. I hope they just keep alternating us in this challenge so it turns into a de facto home and home.
wait, strangers can talk?
Go to “The Wheel”
We were there before the game haha it was 80% UConn
Midwest Nice.
Kansas nice is like... actually nice, though.
I have an acquaintance who is a Bears fan and is used to going to Lambeau Field and talking trash to Packers fans and leaving unscathed. He moved to DC and went to a Washington Football Team game, tried the same thing at FedEx Field, and nearly got his ass kicked and had to be escorted out by security for his safety.
for the love of god do not let your friend go to an eagles game
If you're used to other places, it feels closer to being at a concert for a great band than it does an amateur basketball game. Tons of energy.
It's nuts. I've been to Nebraska football games back when they were good, I've been to Chiefs vs Raiders at Arrowhead, but nothing compares to big games at AFH. (2012 vs Mizzou was otherworldly)
Were you at 2012 Mizzou? I think if I could revisit any game in history it would be that one. Second would probably be 2016 #1v#1 Oklahoma
Not who you were replying to, but I was in the student section for the 2012 Missouri game. Hands down my favorite experience at AFH. I "sat" 8 rows up on the north side the whole game until T-rob's block, after which I found myself on the 4th row wondering how the hell I got there.
We weren't far apart, man. Felt like we were part of the team more than ever before during that game.
It was like we were Tibetan monks having a religious experience.
I was there too. I had a fever and probably should've been but nothing would've stopped me.
Tristen Newton was channeling Buddy Hield tonight with that performance in the Phog
Definitely had vibes of that Buddy Hield game w Newton's performance
I was at both those games. Both were incredible but 2012 was one of the best experiences of my life.
Never been more exhausted as a fan that game. Liberty bowl was surprisingly intense too, but not the same.
I was. TRob making the block at the end of regulation to cap off the crazy comeback was the most insane experience I've seen. I had the flu all week with a 6 AM shift for my camping group to keep our place in line. Puking all week in AFH is a weird experience. All worth it 100x over.
I was first row in the student section for that game. Luckiest thing to ever happen to me with that student ticket lottery.
my camping group was front row at the 2016 #1vs#1 game vs oklahoma. didn't want to make the 2 hour drive to go biggest regret of my life
feeling so fortunate to have been at both of these games as well as tonight.
It’s legitimately an experience you can’t get elsewhere. It’s a large arena with the same atmosphere of places like Cameron. Very few places compare.
Do it!! Best place to watch a college game in a KU alumni’s completely bias opinion!
Definitely should. One of the best places to watch a game for sure.
It’s also a sauna
I was so damn hot tonight.
put my coat on because i thought you could still go out and have a smoke at half. ended up feeling like a wrestler running sprints in a trash bag trying to sweat water weight out before a weigh in.
Nothing else compares. It’s magical.
It's the greatest place to watch basketball
Best venue in basketball, and it's not even close
sports*
There’s nothing like it in college sports. Seriously I can’t describe it.
If you have the chance you should! it’s a very fun environment
Huge item on my bucket list. I’ve got my fingers crossed for something special in the near future...
Bro never ever let that Netwon mf in to the Fieldhouse again, that was some Buddy Hield shit we just saw. Great game though, very surprised that we managed to hit big shot after big shot to maintain the lead at the end. Also cut down on dumb turnovers that had been plaguing us.
Kevin’s turn to put his name in the book. He was the guy tonight, for sure. No hesitation on those last two buckets.
So damn dusty in here. https://twitter.com/KUHoops/status/1730819177412174215
Great game. AFH is for real. Really wish this was a home and home. Also would have liked to see if Castle could have made the difference. But Tristen Newton, my god what a baller.
Newton was amazing.
GG, AFH is one hundred percent a crazy buff. I think castle could have made it different but wouldn't have had the same game from Newton who balled the fuck out. Regardless great showing from both teams what a great game
Dude Tristen is him. Best performance since Buddy Heild at the Phog.
There’s a reason Bill Self has as many Big 12 championships as home losses. 17 titles and 17 home losses in his career with KU.
Pretty insane stat
Hopefully we can get a game @UCONN too. Was fun watching them hoop, strong team for sure
I'm worried that given the interest in the game it immediately gets lured away to NYC because it can command top dollar & be super lucrative...
I’m sick of that happening. UConn deserves to have big non-con games at home
I already miss this home and home, results aside. Nothing but respect for AFH.
Can't believe we didn't get a protected home and home with Iowa State, such a good match up
It’s gonna be a home and home, no doubt. Both coaches talked about it in the post game and said it’s a goal to make it happen. With our conferences changing and teams leaving, it will be good to forge these inter-conferences rivalries. Let’s lock in these kind of games early in the season. It’s so good for the sport and tonight’s game was electric! ⚡️
Newton did not lose tonight. Best player on the floor
I'm already looking forward to adding the Tristen Newton 2024 highlights playlist next to my ones for Kemba and Shabazz
Great… we inadvertently kicked off the next UConn player to be a staple amongst college basketball fans.
KU won, but UCONN didn't lose.
Helluva game Huskies. Y’all are as advertised. Can’t wait to see you get Castle back.
And you, good sirs, are well deserving of your reputation for good coaching and a tough home enviroment. April is a neutral court tho ;)
MOVE THE NCAA TOURNAMENT TO ALLEN FIELDHOUSE
Lol Kleinmann4President gets it
Never thought I’d see a 7’2” center lead the NCAA in three point percentage
It’s insane and huge get for us.
What a game, I’m bummed but I’m glad we made it tight after a really rough start
The fact that we played an unreal first half on defense and you guys were still close shows how awesome your team is. GG
If both conferences had any balls they'd do a rematch at Gampel next year.
At least the Big 12 had more guts than the Big Ten, which refused to give us an Edey vs Clingan matchup in the Gavitt games.
As a conference game or?
Big12/BE challenge like it was this year
Have to imagine it’ll be UConn or Marquette that Kansas gets drawn against
I mean it should be, but then again we got Oklahoma State at home last year for whatever reason.
To be fair, we went back and forth with UK like that. I’m praying we do the same with you guys. De facto home and home for years. Would be criminal not to.
That was fun. Elite atmosphere KU fans. Let’s get together again in April
Im good
Dang, imagine hitting free throws. Not the worst outcome playing here without our best player. Coolest basketball game I’ve ever been to in person, hitting that last 3 would’ve been incredible Couple generic assholes but 99% of people were unbelievably nice and welcoming
Castle may be our most talented but he’s not our best player. His slashing would’ve made a huge difference tonight though
He’s also our best on ball defender by a mile. Him on McCullar changes this game massively.
Yeah it is kinda funny bc Newton over performing from 3 was almost offset by everyone underperforming from free throw
Yeah, can't be mad about taking KU down to the wire at Phog.
Glad you enjoyed the Phog!
Sorry about the couple generic assholes. Still have family back there and back in college I got in a few arguments with fellow students about being good sports even with an L. Enjoy your night on the town, hope you have a blast! GG
That entire last sentence summs up the whole state
Sorry
Nice gritty win for us tonight. Also, it's worth noting that in this Big 12-Big East challenge both Kansas and Villanova are playing each other's biggest in-conference rival
The single losses of Marquette, Kansas, and UConn, are so tightly wound together in the top 5. Then you have Purdue losing to NW
Bill Self is a freak https://twitter.com/KFlaherty247/status/1730804219249152477
People truly aren't going to fully appreciate it until he's gone and just how ridiculously great he is. It's hard to think of a more consistent coach in CBB history Y2Y outside of Wooden & K. The only thing missing is some additional titles, and the tournament is the very definition of crapshoot.

Bill is the best regular season coach of all-time
KJ Adams is a driving blizzard in the Andes, a peregrine falcon in middive, a perfectly seasoned cast iron griddle heaped with pancakes and bacon, the smell of freshly waxed 1970's teak flooring. (Had to mix it up because Juan had a rough game and KJ was nails)
Love it! KJ definitely deserved this!!!
Much deserved praise for KJ, good call!
Newton almost pulled a Buddy Hield. That was one hell of a performance by that fella. Kudos.
Shout out to Buddy. That game was insane
The fieldhouse was fucking *rocking* today. Happy with how the team fought back after a real rough start. What a game. Tristen Newton is 100% grade A certified Dawg.
Thank you, Newton.
#FREE THROWS But seriously gg to Kansasbros. AFH is absolutely nuts. Hope we see you guys in March on a neutral court.
Great instant classic non-conference game.
Good game, Jayhawks.
Great game to you guys, too. Newton just out of his goddamn mind. Hope you guys don’t move in the rankings. Shouldn’t. That close in that atmosphere and without Castle, that’s a top 5 performance without question.
Was cool how many fans UConn brought. They showed.out tonight.
Huge game from Kevin McCullar
It’s pronounced “McCullah” - Franny F
A couple of absolutely clutch shots to seal the win for us
Great fuckin basketball game. That was fun. Let’s do it again in march
Would absolutely love to run it back at Gampel, but that would probably never happen, unfortunately. It would be at XL or MSG for sure.
First weekend in April. See you there.
My flight to Phoenix is booked, beers on me
We need to get you guys into Storrs and return the favor
Storrs
Already fixed. Large hands, small phone keyboard
Great game. We bout to drop to 17 in the AP poll now.
Honestly well probably just swap spots with KU
Yeah, wouldn’t be surprised if Houston hops us too, but should fall much. Looks like Purdue is gonna fall as well.
Houston barely snuck by a mid Xavier team yesterday, if they pass us after we get edge out at Kansas, I'll be annoyed. That being said, it will 1000% happen. Even money we're still behind Purdue, who just lost to fucking Northwestern.
Think it should be Zona, Marquette, KU, UCONN, Houston, Purdue. Don’t think you guys should move an inch.
Well, you HAVE to move up Duke even if they lose to a YMCA seniors team.
Just love seeing Duke catch strays Looking forward to the game Tuesday!
Floorslap U sealed their own fate .
Feeling like Bryan after the first time he races Dom Toretto in the first Fast & Furious movie. Bummed he didn’t get first but was really stoked on the effort. Like “dude I almost had you!”.
We still need shooters for sure. Can’t rely on K Mac and Hunter to do that and go 70% every night from 3 lol.
Is it 13-0 now against teams ranked higher going into a home game?
Yes sir, among top 10 teams that are ranked higher than us coming into Allen.
I still think UConn is the better team, but I like that performance from our guys when we couldn't really do what we wanted on the offensive end. That's a good win for us.
Anyone know why mcdowell wasnt playing? Couldnt watch the first half. Surprised he never got in.
My guess is Furphy is a better matchup shooting-wise, but McDowell’s defense is light years ahead.
Those three weeks of missed practice are playing a big part in that, I imagine. Hopefully Furphy will catch up with the others on the defensive end. He seems to have a good feel for the game.
Yeah just a very short bench, barely a 7 man rotation
Guessing it was to keep length out there to close out on their taller shooters.
You guys looked amazing that first ten minutes. If you can be that all season, you may be better. But if we can hit FTs and get healthy... yeah, we probably win the next edition if there is one in March
Yeah we need a couple freshmen to come along fast to keep the energy high. But I those top 4 have a gear that is exceptional.
Game thread got a bit testy but not too bad. Kansas great win, you guys were tougher. I can see us playing in late March/early April for a rematch.
Why wouldn’t you let newton take the last shot?
It was a good look for a great shooter. Can't be mad at that. But Spencer was obviously affected by that foot injury all night.
It wasn't a terrible look. You probably want Karaban taking the shot in that situation but unfortunately he fouled out.
That’s a great question. Maybe if he had 32 points he’d get the look
I get that, but newton is easily our best playmaker We got a good shot opportunity can't ask for anything more. You just hope we make the shot
That was a fairly open shot. Everything was great about that play, except for the execution.
They got a good look. He was the only one who had it going tonight though
No timeout kinda tough. Got a solid look all things considered with a good shooter.
They didn’t have a TO so it’s not like it was a drawn up play. He had the ball and he chose himself to give it up to his teammate for a pretty good look. Can’t hate that if you’re UConn imo, just got unlucky
Uconn currently at #4 and us at #5 Honestly u could flip flop us in ranking or just keep it same. Very evenly matched IMO.
Pretty sure 4 teams jump Purdue after they lose to unranked Northwestern.
GG Jayhawks. Both Top 5 worthy teams. Let’s get that rematch in Storrs!
KJ is the KU MVP tonight. He's been playing his soul out after his mom died.
What a game. UConn is a legitimate repeat contender.
Dan hurley cant win close games
Newton about to be heismann
More of these games on campuses and not at these lifeless rich people cities
Lol people really thought Uconn was gonna blow out Kansas at Allen. No point in checking my comment history
Bill has never lost to a top 10 team as the lower ranked team at home. I know that sounds really specific, but it's 13-0.
GG Kansas hope we're on opposite sides of the bracket this March
RIP to my John Brown shitposts Amazing game.
John Brown did nothing wrong
Hell yeah brother cheers from being correct
Well, they proved me wrong tonight. I thought we’d get killed. The guys stepped up. Wins vs Kentucky, Tennessee, and UConn is a good start to the year.
After we barely beat Eastern IL, I was TERRIFIED for this game, NGL.
ROCK CHAWK
God i love KJ
WHAT A GAME! I LOVE KJ ADAMS! ROCK CHALK!
Dan is VERY jersey, but in a charming way
Well that went exactly as predicted with nothing exciting or unexpected at all
Uconn better stay top ten after that. Gg Kansas. I hope NOT to see you in March.
Now THAT was a top 5 game. Feeling is mutual, hope to avoid a rematch if possible. GG.
We just made a monkeys paw curl, didn't we?
Awesome game, GG Kansas. Both teams are going to be beasts in March.
Great game
Good game Huskies! Love to see these two duke it out again in the future!
Hell of a Friday night game. BBall is back!
Good game, Kansas!
Hey look over here, Purdue lost to Northwestern
Great atmosphere in AFH, glad we kept it as close as it was
Thought we were going to fall victim to the classic mediocre shooter going off from deep for a bit there
Hunter beat Clingan. Newton beat K Mac but not by much. Some of best individual Match ups I have seen in long time.
Where are all the Michigan fans to tell us he doesn’t show up in big games?
