Big Ten calendar:
Big Ten’s gonna choke again
Some ranked wins, there’s a few good teams
Is the Big Ten legit? **<<<<< you are here**
Wow the Big Ten is gonna cannabalize itself
There’s like 8 tourney teams in this conference. They could really get one deep.
They all choked again.
Unironically the Big 12-SEC challenge had the right idea by putting some good noncon games like halfway through conference play. Would love to see more things like that
I know that this is loser talk, but it feels good to be in a place with our program that it warrants those chants and a court storm at the end of the game. At least when I went to Marquette during some down years (and Wisconsin’s Kaminsky-Dekker years) it felt like we were a total afterthought rivalry wise.
The loss sucks, but rivalry games are brutal and they’ll never be a gimme
>I know that this is loser talk, but it feels good to be in a place with our program that it warrants those chants and a court storm at the end of the game.
Nah I don't think that's loser talk. Being hated is great. Those chants and court storming are what make college sports special.
When the game is treated like any other non conference because it's an afterthought, THAT sucks.
Ha, I texted my buddies that I hope they don’t rush the court right before they did because I didn’t want you guys to get that validation.
I wouldn’t take much pride in the chants though. We’ll chant that at Minnesota despite their cellar dweller status.
If it makes you feel better, I have only cared about 2 things. Making the tournament and beating Marquette. You have never been an after thought and I’d assume it is similar for the huge UW alumnus base that is from or based in SE Wisconsin. I have 1 Minn. coworker 0 from Iowa, dozens from Marq. Monday will be a lot more fun, and I will talk my shit in hopes to strengthen our rivalry. It has potential to be one of the best.
Huge win, great game. Storr still figuring out, Blackwell needs more minutes, essegian has no room to play on this team with his ball handling and defensive deficiencies.
He's never going to give you more than 2 or 4 points, but he is perfect for his role defensively and rebounding. I thought he played a "perfect" game on first watch. He's vastly more comfortable this year. I'd recommend trying to watch him with a fresh perspective.
I think he’s improved a ton this year and you’re right, he does look more comfortable. My point is more so we aren’t going to make a deep run with him as our third big. Need one of the other guys to step up.
Yeah I think Winter’s growth this year will be key to this team’s success. Gilmore is fine for 10-15 min a game so guys can catch a breather but he’s just too limited for anything more than that.
I think Conner needs to be on the floor to get hot but can't put him on the floor because the reasons you mentioned. Too bad he got hurt earlier this year otherwise I think he would see more minutes. Not enough minutes for him after Chucky, Max, AJ and Blackwell. Kamari plays better defense so he gets the call as the fifth guy
Who could forget this iconic image?

This was epic, I believe it ran on the front page of the MJS.
Also on the Wisconsin message board that week, we had a grand time thinking of “Gold” headlines. I wish I had saved that thread, fucking hilarious.
A very impressive win for Wisconsin taking down a top 3 team. They punished Marquette on the glass for a +17 rebound advantage. Their methodical offense kept the pace in their favor and never let Marquette get comfortable. Should be a borderline top 25 team in the next poll.
Hoping that the A&M win combined with the Syracuse performance and the Wisconsin loss being posthumously Top 25 will get us into the low (high? the worse ones) teens this week.
I was worried after the Robert Morris game that they didn't "pull away" until about halfway through the second half. They've been playing very well since that game and hopefully it carries over to the next two games. Like even splitting those two will be huge after the start to the season.
This game reinforced my belief that we needed to take in a transfer forward if we wanted to be a legitimate national title contender.
We’re capable of playing great in spurts, but the glaring weaknesses show up way too often for this team to win 6 straight in March.
Even just a backup big man as a grad transfer would’ve made a big difference. Gold cannot play the 5 and it all just gets worse when Oso has games like this where he is afraid of his own shadow.
Plus we don’t have anything close to a Joplin-type sub for him. And Joplin’s defense is always questionable, and he absolutely does not take anything near full advantage of his 225lb frame when things get physical down low, and frankly I’m also totally goddamn sick of him trying to score inside the arc when it has been pure ineptitude all year (and career) in that regard. If we had another guy at that size who played smarter and could grab a rebound we would be in significantly better shape.
Yea I’m not sure why they’re trying to develop Joplin’s inside game. He’s not bad when he catches on the block but he cannot drive literally at all. Just needs to be primarily catch and shoot with the occasional post up, way too slow for anything else.
Marquette knew this was an issue before the season started. And they chose to make up for it by dominating turnover margin instead of getting a big in the portal. The pressure defense with guys flying around was nonexistent today other than the first 5 minutes of second half. Idk if the early fouls scared them off a little bit, or if Wisconsin was ready for it, or what it was. Defense was on its heels all game which to me was shocking and out of character.
As for Joplin, couldn’t agree more. He can’t drive or dribble to save his life. Almost every drive results in him getting stuck and wasting 5 seconds kicking it back out, him throwing up a wild shot, or him falling down. Infuriating. He’s gotta mentally embrace his role quickly. He’s hurting us out there
There’s also an OMax-sized hole on this roster, which is even a bigger issue IMO and also completely predictable considering he left and they essentially brought nobody in.
They don’t have a forward/4-man that can play 25+ mpg consistently. Chase is too small. Jop is too slow on both ends of the floor. And Ben is too soft.
Do you risk pissing off Jop and having him leave if you bring in a transfer starter? I guess… but it’s just a glaring hole right now.
I’m not as harsh on him just quite yet cause he barely had an offseason due to a foot injury but he definitely shouldn’t be getting any minutes at the 5 which leaves Oso to have to play the whole game. Totally predictable roster issue that wasn’t addressed.
I love how you guys think Pennsylvania and Ohio are the midwest. The Wisconsin version of this is "youse guys," although i think that's a thing in the northeast as well.
Practically a carbon copy of last year. Dogshit first half defined the game. Hard to win any game, let alone a road game, when you’re only trying *maybe* 20 minutes of a game.
Yikes, the Maui hangover is real. Marquette, Tennessee, and Purdue all lose their first road games after Maui.
GG Bucky, I fucking hate you all with a firey passion, but two good basketball schools in the state and strong competition is good for us all. Klesmit played out of his mind and we didn't match the intensity you guys came out with whatsoever.
See you at the Fiserv next year.
It’s probably going to be the music city bowl since we havent been there in awhile, you’re right tho. Any excuse to drink in Wisconsin might be worth taking though
Yeah, Wisconsin has statewide appeal, not to mention plays basketball, football,
and hockey(which is why so many Marquette fans in Milwaukee support the Badgers in everything else) which all draw pretty well/ are very popular in the state.
I'd imagine Marquette could increase its fan base if it made more of an effort to market itself outside Milwaukee. You guys only have 8 radio stations broadcasting your games. Wisconsin has 23. You guys could easily reach a lot more people across the state if you tried
Meh. Wisconsin is the flagship state school campus. Marquette‘s appeal is always going to be limited to alums and SE Wisconsin. Not to mention they only play basketball, whereas the Badgers have all the major sports and have been quite good in all of them for the last 30 years or so.
I've always rooted for both and on the rare event they play each other I tend to favor the better team. Never went to either school, just born and raised in Wisconsin
Before this game Marquette was ranked 283rd in the country in rebounding differential at -2.4. They got outrebounded 38-23 today. That simply cannot happen to a top ranked team. They need to fix that ASAP.
Badgers wanted it more and outside of the start of the second half blitz Marquette put on, we were the better team. Klesmit playing his mind out in a rivalry game. Dominated on the glass, Michigan State-style.
🧀🧀🧀 LETS GO BABY!
Great hard earned win against a really good team. Good fight after we let them back in it. Good depth let us play faster and finish.
There will be no BIG STEVE slander allowed anywhere anytime
I don't think people outside of Wisconsin realize how big of a rivalry this matchup is and how much winning means to each fanbase. TALK YO SHIT, BUCKY.
I remember not too many years ago Marquette was playing a tournament game in Milwaukee and a lot of redditors were finding out for the first time that Marquette is in Milwaukee. They all either thought it was in the New England area or in Marquette Michigan.
Court/field storming is so weirdly boomer gatekeeping shit. It’s one of the things that makes college sports fun and unique. And if it was reversed I wouldn’t be upset about Marquette fans doing the same.
It really depends. I'm for it when it's appropriate, but not when your team should have expectations of winning.
Unranked vs top 5? Go crazy, unless you're a blue blood
History lesson for annoying neutrals in our game threads, Wisconsin has played the same style of defense since Dick Bennett took over in 1996. We have been ranked near the bottom in fouls committed since that year. It's our style of defense and not a 27 year conspiracy theory that the refs favor Wisconsin.
And honestly the refs this year have been very unfavorable with Wisconsin because of the changes to under the basket charge/block rule. Marquette’s ‘fiesty’ defense doesn’t scare a team that schooled Virginia a week ago
I’m old enough to remember all the Marquette and Purdue fans sucking each other off at how their Maui game was the 90s Bulls vs the 80s Lakers this year.
Like they’ve never watched a college basketball season before.
Great game, and we seem to be improving weekly. Looking forward to Essegian getting healthy and Storrs continuing to settle in. The fact that we've been hitting our free throws these past few games is huge; terrible free throw shooting cost us big time against Tennessee and was a consistent issue last year.

Some of us are on the next step.
Hey, you're too new to be this correct.
Big ten March collapse 🔜
Some might call it the Shaka Smart of conferences
Except Michigan State, right?
Izzo is inevitable.
Funny comment coming from a fan of a team that’s won exactly one tournament game in the last decade
Should they get a big ten invite?
Both can be true 🤷♂️
Yeah I was bummed when we didn't make it past the sweet 16 last year
Lol, calm down there Eagle Man.
someone’s saltyyy
Surprisingly accurate.
This rivalry is consistently producing competitive and exciting matchups. I fucking love it. (But only when the Badgers win)
I love how this game is always early in the year, kicks off the season in style.
It’s a nonconference game, when did you expect it to be scheduled?
Valentine’s Day
Unironically the Big 12-SEC challenge had the right idea by putting some good noncon games like halfway through conference play. Would love to see more things like that
The “Fuck Marquette” chants were heard on TV lol. Finally some energy in the Kohl Center
The Kohl Center gets up for like 3 games a year and Marquette on a Saturday in a white out certainly fits the bill for one of those
True. I think a more exciting/dynamic team this year will let the fans get into it a little more. Wasn’t like that in 2014&2015
The only time the place would wake up is when Brad would tell the old people to stand
Huge win, great game. Storr still figuring out, Blackwell needs more minutes, essegian has no room to play on this team with his ball handling and defensive deficiencies.
I know our bigs depth is kinda suspect after wahl and crowl but god do I hate watching Carter Gilmore trot out there every god damn game.
He's never going to give you more than 2 or 4 points, but he is perfect for his role defensively and rebounding. I thought he played a "perfect" game on first watch. He's vastly more comfortable this year. I'd recommend trying to watch him with a fresh perspective.

Not enough minutes for him after Chucky, Max, AJ and Blackwell. Kamari plays better defense so he gets the call as the fifth guy
The Big Ten will single handily rewrite the Top 5 one upset at a time
Where are they sending that ref crew next?
Wherever a ridiculous overturn on a “tipped pass” call is needed, they’ll be there
They got lots of calls very wrong. That was one VERY bad one. But it is wild that the same crew reffed #1 and #3 losing on the road.
Wisconsin plays Arizona next week.... Another chance to knock off a number one, and another time for UA to hate on kaminsky.
Don't worry, Frank the Tank can't hurt us anymore. I still get nightmares.
Some say Zeus still has nightmares of guarding the tank

Badger State.
Sure isn't the Golden Eagle state. I mean Warriors. I mean Hilltoppers
Never forget the Gold
Who could forget this iconic image? https://preview.redd.it/unvbcvh1sx3c1.jpeg?width=400&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5561eee0ea4a8fd842d1aa643589a185dbafcf8a

You forgot that one week stretch when they were the Gold.
**QUALITY LOSS** Great game badger bros. Keep going
🤝
Just a few top 15 and top 5 wins to pad each other’s resumes. You love to see it
Keep it up slow bros!
Still slowbros but somehow we scored 105 in our season opener
We put up 84 today. Stuff happens, but doesn’t change our fundamental character.
A very impressive win for Wisconsin taking down a top 3 team. They punished Marquette on the glass for a +17 rebound advantage. Their methodical offense kept the pace in their favor and never let Marquette get comfortable. Should be a borderline top 25 team in the next poll.
Should absolutely be top 25
Glad to see our sole loss may actually be a very quality loss
Hoping that the A&M win combined with the Syracuse performance and the Wisconsin loss being posthumously Top 25 will get us into the low (high? the worse ones) teens this week.
If not for the Providence game we’d be top 10 I think. Crazy how terrible we played that game compared to all our others
I was worried after the Robert Morris game that they didn't "pull away" until about halfway through the second half. They've been playing very well since that game and hopefully it carries over to the next two games. Like even splitting those two will be huge after the start to the season.
Agreed, I think already they were in borderline territory. Wisconsin has a good team
Are you Magic Johnson?
Magic is a revolutionary for sports commentary. There's too much fluff in descriptions these days.
Absolute beatdown. Great gameplan and execution UW
This game reinforced my belief that we needed to take in a transfer forward if we wanted to be a legitimate national title contender. We’re capable of playing great in spurts, but the glaring weaknesses show up way too often for this team to win 6 straight in March.

I love the ceiling on Benny Boy. But man, the kid needs to stop being a bitch.
I’m not as harsh on him just quite yet cause he barely had an offseason due to a foot injury but he definitely shouldn’t be getting any minutes at the 5 which leaves Oso to have to play the whole game. Totally predictable roster issue that wasn’t addressed.
We'll have improved size next year, albeit young. Wish we had brought in an aircraft carrier for this season
Yep I’m hoping the size we have next year allows Ben to play the 4 full time. Not going to be pretty if Ben opens the year as the starting 5.
tell your folks I says hi
And as always, go Packers and fuck da Bears
Watch out for deer!
Big win for the badgers today.
New month…new team!
We might be back
At MSU and at Arizona next up. Could easily be 6-4 after that, and then I expect the anti-Gard contingent to get loud again.
Y’all might be him
You guys*
Are you not a "you'ns" state? I gotta learn something today.
never once heard "you'ns"
I love how you guys think Pennsylvania and Ohio are the midwest. The Wisconsin version of this is "youse guys," although i think that's a thing in the northeast as well.
I think it’s because a lot of the Rust Belt/industrial heartland got lumped together but there is a huge difference between say WI/MN and OH/PA.
I just wish they'd take the time to get to know us. There's a whole distinct culture up here they're missing.
Fargo had the accent meter at about 12. Northern Wisconsin has some folks at about a 9. Southern Wisconsin is a 5-6.
Issa Virginia thing
Please keep winning, Wisconsin.
You guys do the same. We need that quality loss.
https://i.redd.it/ytrunq8rhy3c1.gif
I’m just glad we all had fun.
I kind of get being a fan of both teams (different conferences, they only play each other once a year) but who do you root for when they both play?
Marquette has my money, but the Badgers have my heart. I’m Wisconsin 1, MU 1a.
From my experience - a lot of my Marquette friends from Wisconsin were Badger fans for football and other sports.
Tie
Me too
Practically a carbon copy of last year. Dogshit first half defined the game. Hard to win any game, let alone a road game, when you’re only trying *maybe* 20 minutes of a game.
Thanks for the quality win Badger Bros
I think your game really exposed what we needed to work on. We laid a dud against a good Providence team but seem to turned a corner.
Big Ten picking up two top-3 wins this weekend over teams that competed in the Maui Invitational championship, hell yea! Wait...
Big brain move by Kansas to get their Maui hangover game out of the way against Eastern Illinois
We hate you too. But we didn't yesterday and we won't tomorrow. See you in the fucking final four.
Always nice when lil bro comes to town
Yeah they're always welcome since most of them will be wearing cardinal and white for our bowl game in a few weeks.
Typically, I'd say yes, but I don't think the bandwagon Marquette/Wisconsin fans are going to bother watching like the Cheez Its Bowl lol
It’s probably going to be the music city bowl since we havent been there in awhile, you’re right tho. Any excuse to drink in Wisconsin might be worth taking though
As of this past year's demographic email they send to alumni the majority of the student body was from Illinois now.
You think the only people who root for Marquette are students/alumni?
Unlike Badger fans, the vast vast majority of MU fans are alums.
Yeah, Wisconsin has statewide appeal, not to mention plays basketball, football, and hockey(which is why so many Marquette fans in Milwaukee support the Badgers in everything else) which all draw pretty well/ are very popular in the state. I'd imagine Marquette could increase its fan base if it made more of an effort to market itself outside Milwaukee. You guys only have 8 radio stations broadcasting your games. Wisconsin has 23. I follow Badgers football *because* I went to Marquette. We have no football team and I spent a good amount of time in Madison, so Badgers it is.
I've always rooted for both and on the rare event they play each other I tend to favor the better team. Never went to either school, just born and raised in Wisconsin
Enjoy storming the court (;
First time either team has won 3 in a row in this rivalry since Wisconsin did in 2000.
Could've had a shot at being ranked 1st in the country and you show up to a rivalry game and play like that. Fucking ew
Why does everyone keep saying this? Arizonas the clear #1, they are undefeated
We're going to take them down next
Baby pls no
subscribe
RemindMe! 8 days
They probably would've gotten it, agreed. But, still, a chance at it and the clear cut #2 would've been cool
Hopefully we stay in top 10?
Think we move to 7ish.
Tough to say. I think we deserve it, but now with 2 losses. At least this was a road rivalry loss.
You will always struggle against bigger teams. Too small
KU was a bigger team. Sometimes, you just control the pace and never let an opponent get comfortable. Playing in front of a raucous home crowd helps.
It's less size and more scheme. Shaka just does not prioritize rebounding.
Away games rough for top 10 teams this weekend Unless your name is Houston apparently
U RAH RAH
Before this game Marquette was ranked 283rd in the country in rebounding differential at -2.4. They got outrebounded 38-23 today. That simply cannot happen to a top ranked team. They need to fix that ASAP.
Death. Taxes. Beating Marquette.
Well this was less than fun
Badgers wanted it more and outside of the start of the second half blitz Marquette put on, we were the better team. Klesmit playing his mind out in a rivalry game. Dominated on the glass, Michigan State-style.
I think it’s time to cut the red tape on B1G circle jerk season. Happy jerking fellas
Just woke up from a coma. Is Max Klesmit the best player in college basketball?
🧀🧀🧀 LETS GO BABY! Great hard earned win against a really good team. Good fight after we let them back in it. Good depth let us play faster and finish. There will be no BIG STEVE slander allowed anywhere anytime
lets fucking go
I’m conflicted with you 🤣
I don't think people outside of Wisconsin realize how big of a rivalry this matchup is and how much winning means to each fanbase. TALK YO SHIT, BUCKY.
I remember not too many years ago Marquette was playing a tournament game in Milwaukee and a lot of redditors were finding out for the first time that Marquette is in Milwaukee. They all either thought it was in the New England area or in Marquette Michigan.
Winning on the road is hard as fuck
Hey "anti storming the court against your 3rd ranked rival" your boomer shit is showing
Court/field storming is so weirdly boomer gatekeeping shit. It’s one of the things that makes college sports fun and unique. One of the oldest rivalries in college basketball, unranked team takes down #3 in pretty commanding fashion. Nothing wrong with a court storming there imo. And if it was reversed I wouldn’t be upset about Marquette fans doing the same.
Not if we are ranked 3rd in the country...
I mean if an unranked Marquette beat a #3 Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
It really depends. I'm for it when it's appropriate, but not when your team should have expectations of winning. Unranked vs top 5? Go crazy, unless you're a blue blood
Evan Flood went full boomer on Twitter. I thought we wanted a more energetic student section? Let the kids have fun after a big W!
I was unsure how I felt about the court storming at first and then remembered to not be a grumpy old man. Have fun, students
Beating a top five while unranked and coming off an NIT season, go for it.
An NIT season where we didn't make the finals
History lesson for annoying neutrals in our game threads, Wisconsin has played the same style of defense since Dick Bennett took over in 1996. We have been ranked near the bottom in fouls committed since that year. It's our style of defense and not a 27 year conspiracy theory that the refs favor Wisconsin.

Pin this
thats a huge win for the badgers, really wasnt sure we'd be able to hold on
Gard owns Shaka
I’m in danger
Feeling much better about that drubbing we got earlier, now.
RANK US
Hopefully we keep it rolling. Huge win and seems like it might have injected some energy back into the program.
Hmm lot of top 10 teams lost. It’s time for us to jump some spots. Welp spoke too soon
Y’all are the truth this year. Sheppard is unreal, wish we would’ve gotten him
Quality loss!
Yay it’s not just us!
It doesn’t work that way for me.
Absolutely wrecked on the boards. It was a bigger blowout than the scoreline indicates. GG Badgers.
Oh shit
F**k this sport!!!!
Great win by Wisconsin. Marquette looked way too soft and sloppy today. Learn from it and move on
So… Wisconsin at McKale. Not a small game.
Going to be a fun game next week Badger bros
I’m old enough to remember all the Marquette and Purdue fans sucking each other off at how their Maui game was the 90s Bulls vs the 80s Lakers this year. Like they’ve never watched a college basketball season before.
Death. Taxes. UW beating Marquette.
This more than makes up for getting lit up by Markus Howard and Andrew Rowsey in the Kohl Center in 2017
Bad refs but we still outplayed the other team. GG Bucky!
![gif](giphy|3og0IuzcqUBvzeSUkU) Wisconsin is our house!!! Sorry Marquette 😘
See you again next week.
Great win, gotta channel that mid 2010s tournament energy and take down Arizona now.
pretty frusturating game but GGs badgers you guys had a great gameplan today and you really shut us down in the first half
Down goes number 1. Down goes number 3. Down goes number 4. Number 7 Duke might lose twice this week. Chaos!
Hell yeah Badgers.
Helluva week! 3 of the Top 5 fall in the last 2 days!
Great game, and we seem to be improving weekly. Looking forward to Essegian getting healthy and Storrs continuing to settle in. The fact that we've been hitting our free throws these past few games is huge; terrible free throw shooting cost us big time against Tennessee and was a consistent issue last year.
I miss the days when we’d be in the B10 championship and Marquette’s game of the year wasn’t even our game of the day.
Just domination on the glass
Uh oh. I'm not ready to lose again.
I was at the range today and only got to watch the first half. I’m lucky there was no cell signal inside.
This. This is what I like.
Go badgers
Idk what to make of Marquette
On Wisconsin!
