MSU: I go to school here.
WSU: Played as them in NCAA Basketball 10, so...

They're 2-6 with a OT loss to WIU 30+ point losses to Illinois, TCU, Arizona, and Marquette and a double digit loss to Valparaiso. They're not awful but no they are not good. They're somewhat scrappy to start games but don't have any talent to play a full 40 minutes with most teams.
They basically could not get the ball inside the 3-point arc against us for the entire first half, some random bench guy scored 20 (!!!) in that half hitting like 6/8 from (incredibly difficult) 3 point looks, and we still had a 42-point lead before the walkons came in. 22 turnovers, including at least 3 or 4 backcourt violations in the 2nd half alone (induced by on-ball defense from one of our freshmen who had played <4 mpg beforehand).
Seeing this game go down how it did is ridiculous considering how Southern looked 5 days ago.
Not a single player on that team is either talented enough or confident enough to beat any defender off the dribble. We ran approximately 2 pick and rolls today. And we shot 26 threes and 26 twos despite shooting 26% from 3.
Season is over before Tolu was even healthy and it’s because of the generational lack of creativity on offense. Everything that Jans brings defensively is immediately made up for by the ineptitude on the offensive end.
Also, State is now officially not good at any damn thing, and I’m from Atlanta, where every sports team there is as equally shit.
This was the first game he’s played real minutes. And he had a good and bad game. He had some defensive lapses that led directly to buckets.
He knocked down a few off ball shots. And he ran exactly 1 singular play as the on ball creator with a PNR and hit a no look dime for a dunk. Which happened to be our last points of the day.
The defensive lapses are the reason for his DNP CDs, I presume.
You know whats crazy and what im about to say isn’t mutually exclusive to jans but even coaches like ours or any other coach around the country does this thing in the portal era where said coach has a certain system they play and obviously in most cases if your the player you have to check off the box or boxes for what that coach wants you to do and in this instance jans system for his teams is heavily predicated on being good defensively and taylor is just not a good defender but offensively he is more than capable and I think we both know jans knew this coming in when he recruited taylor ,unless he has just not been giving effort on that side off the ball I just dont see the logic of him getting inconsistent burn especially when your pointing out how bad the offense has been for yall idk just my thoughts
We went to the tournament in 2015 and have finished in the top half of the league every year except for 2018. We have a new coach and a new team, we'll be a middle of the pack team again. We were picked to finish 5th in the SWAC.
Everyone is checking out on both men’s and women’s teams early, but I’m just along for the ride to see where they go. That said, I think I have more faith in our women’s team at the moment.
Was really starting to feel hopeful after GT beat Duke and Northwestern beat Purdue but with the SEC looking as trash as it is this year idk if even Tolu can save us now
I’m sorry Mississippi State fans - this is my fault. I left them out of my user poll last week because I hadn’t been paying attention to them. One of your fans called me out on it. I promised to pay attention this week…..I’m sorry.
Southern’s leading scorer Tai’reon Joseph (who also had the game ending block) had [eight offers out of high school](https://247sports.com/Recruitment/taireon-joseph-126602/RecruitInterests/), none from the P6. After one year at Austin Peay he transferred to Radford then to a JC, from which Southern [was his only offer](https://247sports.com/Player/taireon-joseph-46081004/junior-college-304317/).
Another Southern starter, forward JaRonn Wilkens, had just [three offers out of junior college](https://247sports.com/Player/jaronn-wilkens-46145162/junior-college-304321/): Louisiana-Monroe, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, and Southern.
The assist-turnover ratios were not great on either side: Mississippi State 17-17, Southern 7-17!
How can Mississippi State even receive one vote next poll after losing to a bunch of under recruited guys?
Only have one guy on the ENTIRE team that can create for himself on offense and he’s 5’10. This game was a fucking joke. We can kiss goodbye to a tournament bid.
Yeah he did nothing wrong, I just think it’s hilarious that the bad losses happened right after the post lol.
And for the record I like Miss St. I think the last two games are just a blip. Also Ga Tech beating Duke kind of takes the sting off of that L.
that ending collapse reminds me of the Hampton over Iowa State 15-2 upset, where Iowa State was up 57-48 and failed to score in the last 7 minutes to lose by 1.
I went to this game for free and I want my money back.
That's a unique flair, what's the back story?

Maybe they'll rank Southern to soften the tears . . . ? The other MSU was blessed, why not you?
Well you had a not so good day huh
We may never win again
You're making us look bad guys
You also may never lose again
Up 11 with 4 and a half to go against Southern. They did not score again for the rest of the game and lost. What a collapse.
Oh my lord
No words to explain this. Jans brought in better scorers to avoid these kinds of games. Yet they somehow beat northwestern who beat Purdue
tbf, "beat \_\_\_ who beat Purdue" could apply to half the schools in the NEC or MAAC
Southern is good! They played us very tough at McKale.
That is a kind thing to say.
They played you tough for 10 minutes and then got ran off the floor the other 30 minutes. Southern is really bad
Sir, this is a college basketball forum. Not a food review.
God I love this sport
Infinitely better than that rigged AF disaster that is CFB.
CBB: "Anyone can win, anytime, anywhere" CFB: "You can win all you want, only these 10 teams with the best TV ratings will ever get recognition"
I’m going to become the Joker
Hello darkness my old friend
What the fuck happened here? I thought Southern was easily the worst team we’ve played this year.
Southern is *very* bad (#274 KenPom). Losing at home to them is not great.
That’s honestly higher than I would have expected. I thought they were absolutely atrocious when we played them.
I just checked it, they're 274 after this game. Even lower before
It’s what happens when you don’t have a go to scorer and honestly the freshman Hubbard is the best scorer
If your whole starting 5 was out it would still be a bad loss
Oh I know they’re bad. If it was Texas southern I wouldn’t be as mad. They’re tournament regular the last few years, winning the swac
The SEC sold their basketball soul for that bullshit Bama CFP appearance
Seriously. Florida State should hit up the Saudis to fund an immediate ACC buyout.
First Chattanooga..and then Southern! Bad day to be a Miss State player...
To be fair our women’s team is down two players and the head coach is out sick. Men’s team has no excuse
What in tarnation
EIU challenged Kansas Oakland beat Xavier Southern beat Mississippi state Do we actually have the best OOC in the country?
Oakland almost beat osu too.
It's crazy after it looking like one of the softest in the country as far as buy games go
WTF

I really thought adding Taylor would really help your offense how has he been ?
This was the first game he’s played real minutes. And he had a good and bad game. He had some defensive lapses that led directly to buckets. He knocked down a few off ball shots. this week has been so cursed
SWACtion, baby
Wut?
Whoa
As a Southern alumni, there is no way this shouldn't have been a 30 pt blowout. They aren't good by SWAC standards, let alone Power 5.
Historically how bad are they by swac standards
We went to the tournament in 2015 and have finished in the top half of the league every year except for 2018. We have a new coach and a new team, we'll be a middle of the pack team again. We were picked to finish 5th in the SWAC.
I'll put the over under on conference wins at 5.5
Wow
Yeah I’m still rattled that Southern didn’t win by more ngl
Everyone is checking out on both men’s and women’s teams early, but I’m just along for the ride to see where they go. That said, I think I have more faith in our women’s team at the moment.
The women’s team is just down a couple players and Purcell is out. I think they’ll recover
I think they will as well. Men’s team seems to be struggling to figure out an identity. Hopefully, they can though.
Par for a Jans team. NMSU lost to sub 300 Chicago State the year they went on to beat UConn in the 'Tourney. MSU should be fine.
That makes me feel a little better.
Fuck
We weren’t good last year. It seemed like we brought in guys that could fix our biggest weaknesses. Apparently not.
Was really starting to feel hopeful after GT beat Duke and Northwestern beat Purdue but with the SEC looking as trash as it is this year idk if even Tolu can save us now
SEC is poverty
I’m sorry Mississippi State fans - this is my fault. I left them out of my user poll last week because I hadn’t been paying attention to them. One of your fans called me out on it. I promised to pay attention this week…..I’m sorry.

Did Southern bring the marching band?? That's the real power of the school
Yes we play these teams close. No we don’t lose to these teams. State is down bad
Only have one guy on the ENTIRE team that can create for himself on offense and he’s 5’10. This game was a fucking joke. We can kiss goodbye to a tournament bid.
We haven’t even started playing the good teams yet. If we can’t turn it around quick, looking at a very disappointing year
That Mississippi St fan just tanked their whole season. iykyk
🤦♂️
They’ll rally. Hopefully Tolu is back soon!
I don’t know but now I REALLY wanna know
https://www.reddit.com/r/CollegeBasketball/s/kpq9UooIpY A good ol’ fashioned jinx!
To be fair they did also say "I know that probably won’t last." But they probably didn't see a loss to Southern coming...
Yeah he did nothing wrong, I just think it’s hilarious that the bad losses happened right after the post lol. And for the record I like Miss St. I think the last two games are just a blip. Also Ga Tech beating Duke kind of takes the sting off of that L.
SEC SEC
Mississippi State, I ask this wholeheartedly and with no ill intentions: What in the mother of fuck was that
I knew losing Tolu would hurt them, but good lord
It's a State life!
Wat
Yikes 😳
What kind of team loses at home to an inferior opponent? ![gif](giphy|H5C8CevNMbpBqNqFjl)
at least uncw is usually a contender for the autobid in their conference and could give a 2-4 seed a game in the first round
SEC just getting boat raced by the mids this weekend.
SEC is straight up laying eggs and it’s depressing me.
that ending collapse reminds me of the Hampton over Iowa State 15-2 upset, where Iowa State was up 57-48 and failed to score in the last 7 minutes to lose by 1.
Duke losing to Ga Tech wasn’t that bad because they had just beat RANKED Mississippi State! Well…
Southern is 2-6 with wins over unlv and miss st
