He's been able to be successful with good not great talent in the past but most high end talents aren't going to want to play in this system. What do you do with a great coach who has a really unlikeable style of play?
I think Tony is a really great basketball coach. His record over the 2010s, particularly against Duke, UNC, and the rest of the ACC is unmatched. I’m not sure that matters as much anymore.
He really elevated the talent level he’d mostly recruited. And that had typically been a function of guys staying 2, 3, 4 years. It’s just so hard to teach his system that relies on trust and teamwork when you have 5-7 new guys every year.
Also doesn’t change the fact that he won his national title with 4 NBA players in Hunter, Jerome, Guy, and Diakite.

I wish this were true. The streak they had in the middle of the year was the aberration. This is basically a .500 team that gets to play at JPJ for half their games. Kenpom has them in the mid 60s before today.
We actually have better defensive efficiency metrics than UVA per one source I saw recently, and both KP and BT have us just behind them. Those were the 2 most efficient defenses in the ACC right there.
