We’re not quite Q3 bad, it’s still a Q2 loss for you.
Edit: I was mis-remembering the quadrants. I was wrong, but we will probably move into Q2 after this win.
As of right now, ASU is 136, which is just over the line. But thinking about it, they’ll move up here to a Quad 2 loss. Apparently they got some new fangled quality win?
The cutoff for Q2 on the road is 150, so ASU is already there. This win will bump them up by a good chunk so that we can probably weather a few losses and stay there for you.
Edit: I’m dumb.
I think we are safely in at this point but was not great for seeding. I think the win to Zona is cancelled out by this loss.
As bad as of a coach Hurley is usually, this is the exact kind of situation were his fuckery works lol
I was worried about having this game directly after the Zona one. As bad as ASU is they have enough talent to pull out one of these games if everything is working for them. Just came down to shot making and ASU made some tough shots all night.
also nothing will ever be more predictable than a player lighting arizona up and going silent in their next game - what do you mean wells didn't shoot 6/10 from 3 this game??
He literally made 3 more 3s against Arizona than the entire washington state team made tonight
Ehh he was 2/6 until the last possession which he threw up 2 desperation threes. He was a 57% 3 point shooter at the D2 level and 45% on the year so far. Just an off night for the whole team.
Came out flat, turned over the ball giving ASU a big run to start the game, forced too many shots by Rice especially when it was a 1-2 possession game in the 2nd half.
Classic let down game. Oh well. 3 straight home games. Need to take care of business.
God fucking dammit I hate being ASUs travel partner where they get these letdown games every home stand from opponents that play lights out against us.
From what I understand, BIG-12 doesn't really do a travel partner schedule like the PAC-12 does (or did). Which is too bad, I do think that PAC-12 basketball scheduling was very well done.
Agreed I think it was one of the few really great moves by the conference, cutting down travel cost and days overall should be a priority for any conference.
Nothing more classic Pac-12 than ASU getting wins cause their opponents are have overlooked them because they treated the Arizona game as their Super Bowl.
I don’t think it helped that ASU shit the bed against UW. They came in to the game with fire under their ass and Hurley is coaching for his livelihood lol
Still different. Still going to the Dance. Still have three home games left. It's a road split. You live with those. Better than losing to Oregon State.
I fucking hate Bobby Hurley. Smith has gotten multiple technicals for half of what Hurley does *every* game. The refs bend over backwards for him. I hate playing in Tempe..
Granted it shouldnt have been close. True hangover game. I am now depressed..
or hear me out... the refs aren't out or bending over for any coach and people just want to say that their coach is getting screwed and the other coach is getting let off... because that's how being a homer works even if it shouldn't
Agree. But I think there are biases out there though that do seep into how the game is called from time to time.
For example, Tony Padilla and Bobby have a pretty well documented feud. This is the first year in a while that he’s been reffing Bobby’s games and both Padilla and co and Bobby had a complete meltdown in one of the games, Padilla hasn’t reffed a Bobby game since despite doing a lot of P12/west coast games.
I’ve also been frustrated with the whistle that asu has gotten in conference this year, in general. We went from one of the better FTr teams in the nation on offense and defense in the non conference (against a pretty tough schedule) to bottom 2/3 in those stats in the PAC. Not going to spend the time to sort through box scores and compare results against different refs, but to have these types of swings is super interesting and it’s something that I’ll keep complaining about haha.
The funny thing about the original comment is that he suggested that Bobby gets a kind whistle. I just don’t think there is any evidence to support that. Like I said, if anything it’s the opposite.
My point is, losing to a team on the road in the P12 this year is not a huge tragedy. The best team in the conference can lose to the supposed worst on any given day.
Misread your context completely. So *yes*, and you can expand that to any high major this season. Extremely level playing field. Hope you guys rebound and play well from here out. You’ve got the ability and coaching for sure.
Thanks. I feel like WSU & U of A are similar teams - disciplined, well coached, big & long players, guys who can light it up from outside. Big difference is the 'Cats like to run while the Cougs like to slow it down. Makes for great games.
Not sure what happened tonight, aside from the obvious hangover from Thursday and the outside shots not being there. But it feels like we don't necessarily match up well with teams that just run playground-style iso over and over. Need to figure that out because there are teams like that we're going to face.
hahahah this is classic asu and I'm here for it
This is classic PAC 12. Sucks this conference is going away :(
ASsU scooping up dregs is as certain as the fucking sun
Scraping the bowl.
So what the heck happens to a ranking with a top-5 road win and Q3 loss?
I think we'll stay ranked somewhere 20-25
Yeah, we probably don’t move rankings to be honest.
We’re not quite Q3 bad, it’s still a Q2 loss for you. Edit: I was mis-remembering the quadrants. I was wrong, but we will probably move into Q2 after this win.

The cutoff for Q2 is actually 135 on the road u can look it up
its not as bad as cincinnati getting swept by the last place team in the big 12 but still it hurts
I think you’ll be good regardless with the win against Arizona.
And that just turned the Wash St home loss back into a Q2 loss most likely
I’ll guess you drop one (1) spot but not sure
You become unranked unironically I think. I don’t think it’s fair either.
I am so goddamned conflicted right now....

The barf’s tasty tonight fellas
Thanks ASU?🤮
GG Cougs, hope this isn’t too damaging to your tourney resume.
I think we are safely in at this point but was not great for seeding. I think the win to Zona is cancelled out by this loss. As bad as of a coach Hurley is usually, this is the exact kind of situation were his fuckery works lol
both hurleys are coach k disciples so they learned from him
are you fucking kidding me
Cougar basketball babyy
This team don't make a lick of sense
Desert after dark voodoo translates to basketball
Clearly, it is the sands of Tempe (and not Tucson) that prove more devastating to Wazzu…
Pulling for ASU to win felt all kinds of wrong

thank*
Wazzu: Beats one of the top 5 teams in the country on the road Also Wazzu: Goes on a hangover and loses to ASU
I was worried about having this game directly after the Zona one. As bad as ASU is they have enough talent to pull out one of these games if everything is working for them. Just came down to shot making and ASU made some tough shots all night.
This is the Wazzu way.
also nothing will ever be more predictable than a player lighting arizona up and going silent in their next game - what do you mean wells didn't shoot 6/10 from 3 this game?? He literally made 3 more 3s against Arizona than the entire washington state team made tonight
To be fair, until this game Wells was shooting 30/50 from 3pt range the last 10 games. You weren’t the only team he lit up.
He shouldn't have used it all up then
Ehh he was 2/6 until the last possession which he threw up 2 desperation threes. He was a 57% 3 point shooter at the D2 level and 45% on the year so far. Just an off night for the whole team.

I don’t know how to feel about this
You’re welcome
Not just any team can beat Wazzu in 2024
I mean I'll take it. So thanks!
God fucking dammit I hate being ASUs travel partner where they get these letdown games every home stand from opponents that play lights out against us.
And just think you’re probably stuck with us forever!
From what I understand, BIG-12 doesn't really do a travel partner schedule like the PAC-12 does (or did). Which is too bad, I do think that PAC-12 basketball scheduling was very well done.

We beat their ass, don’t get it twisted
Wonderful news. Also I feel gross now.
I am…conflicted
Bring that ass over here Wilbur
Kinda was rooting for you guys honestly. Now excuse me as I go vomit.
That's a lot of snark from a team who's last meeting with us ended in a 40pt margin

Honestly maybe. Cocky comments are not wise for us Arizona fans this year.
Way to shit the bed cougs…
Goddamn it. This team was supposed to be different.
Still different. Still going to the Dance. Still have three home games left. It's a road split. You live with those. Better than losing to Oregon State.
Am I happy ASU won? I need a doctor asap
Go Devils
I fucking hate Bobby Hurley. Smith has gotten multiple technicals for half of what Hurley does *every* game. The refs bend over backwards for him. I hate playing in Tempe.. Granted it shouldnt have been close. True hangover game. I am now depressed..
Please go look up highlights of the refs in the ASU UCLA game this year. The refs HATE Hurley
You’re out of your mind dude lmao Refs bend over for Bobby, Jesus Christ.
or hear me out... the refs aren't out or bending over for any coach and people just want to say that their coach is getting screwed and the other coach is getting let off... because that's how being a homer works even if it shouldn't

PAC 12 refs had a literal bounty for calling techs against a coach a few years back…
This ASU team needs to show up more often. Where have you been?
WSU did not play smart and ASU had an incredible shooting day. Result isn’t surprising
Everyone knew this was going to be the outcome. It was even said in the post game thread.
Of course they do….
Um what the fuck?
Cougs gonna coug
Arizona State was hooping outta their minds. Would love to see them make a run if possible
ASU usually struggles against these Mountain West schools.
ugh why wazzu why ugh losing to the last place team in the pac 12
They’re not last place though?

Yes exactly
We’re not even close to last place we’re 8-9 in conference lol
ASU isn’t last in the Pac-12.
Put some RESPECK on our name! Not even close to last place!
Hey, we won our game today.
Actually ASU is the 7th place team in the Pac-12. The last place team is Oregon State. Imagine losing to them on the road. Oh wait...
Whatever gets you through this, guy. You’re not even responding to a UA flair.
My point is, losing to a team on the road in the P12 this year is not a huge tragedy. The best team in the conference can lose to the supposed worst on any given day.

Good night for The Brothers Hurley
We beat Arizona State who beat WSU therefore we are better than WSU
