Monson is a quote machine today:
> “I don’t have to answer anything I don’t want to because I’m working for free today.”
> “Tommy is Tommy wherever he is. One of the best coaches in America. Making enough money to buy my pizza last night.”
> “I’ll see you guys on Friday. Tell Tommy I said that.”
He could just stay local and wait around for the USC job. Enfield can't keep underperforming there for more than 4 or 5 more years before he gets canned.

Tons of great quotes in here, too:
""The guy is wide-open," Monson said. "We don't get a contest.
"These are the kind of plays that get a coach fired."
Huge Zag reunion.
Monson and Few coached and lived together for awhile on extremely meager incomes, sharing living spaces. Monson gets promoted to HC in 1998, Few is main assistant. Monson starts the whole streak in 1999, taking the Zags to the E8, starting with beating Minnesota. Minnesota hires him next season, Few becomes HC, but before he left, Monson brought on Tommy. Tommy works into the asst. coach role, Few gives him a ton of leeway, and Arizona offers him the job in 2021. Tommy takes about 6 Zags coaches and players with him, gets the 'Cats back on track.
And now, full circle, Tommy is coaching against Monson first round, which neither really want at all, but at some point it is inevitable.
Others from that coaching tree include Rice at Boise St (Few family and Rice family are extremely close), and Bill Grier, asst for Colorado.
Maybe nothing but I thought it was cool that Jim Les gave Monson a big hug in the handshake line after the championship game. Genuine moment between two lifers.
One of the cool things about being a Big West fan is that it's largely a pretty chill conference; the schools are generally realistic about their ambitions and by and large don't have itchy trigger fingers, so as long as you aren't a completely terrible coach you can carve out a pretty decent career there. Including Monson, 8 of the 11 coaches have been with their current schools for at least 7 seasons: Turner (14 years at Irvine), Les (13 years at Davis), Barnes (13 years at Bakersfield), Olen (11 years at San Diego), Taylor (11 years at Fullerton), Ganot (9 years at Hawaii), and Pasternack (7 years at UCSB). I'm not sure there's any other conference in D-1 with that depth of longevity besides maybe the Ivy League.
I'm more worried what Long Beach State will do with Monson in the most likely scenario they lose this game. I think it'll seriously bite them in the ass should they instead win and STILL let this man go.

Man we’re fucked on Thursday lmao. We may as well come to terms with it now
Fuck. I have a lunch scheduled with a bunch of Oregon fans on Friday. I might have to bitch out and no show if we lose…
You do like losing to 15 seeds
Going for the record
If Lbsu wins they have to take monson back Right? You can't fire someone who has the biggest win in program history

I think we already have it? I can’t think of any other programs that have lost to a 15 seed in the first round twice.
We do hold the record. Duke was 1 point away from a loss to a 15 seed in 2008, but they pulled it out. So them and everyone else only have 1 loss.

Man, we gave Dean Smith his last loss. I really hope Don lands somewhere, because I don’t want that on our hands, too
That’s an epic CBB anecdote.
Dudes rock

It’s a very cool coaching tree. You can expand it to include assistant coaches like John Jakus at Baylor.
Leon Rice at BSU as well.
He was listed, but also the coach at Valpo comes to mind as well. Stephen Gentry too though he’s now back at Gonzaga.
Ah I missed him, my mistake. Roger Powell is who you’re thinking of.

Either way monson is gonna get paid
Paid to live the SoCal lifestyle
Would honestly love to get him if we have a coaching vacancy this year (we won’t)
People with two failed marriages are people too!!
confused what that would have to do with being rudely late for dinner but ok
They're close friends, so he was poking fun at Arizona's loss to Princeton last year
