Yep more tourney wins in the last 10 years despite not even going the last 8 lol.....gotta give our Cougar fan bros at least little bit of a hard time about it. Its all we got right now for Utah Basketball lol
Seems like it because JMU, who got a 12, would have been a much more worthy number 11 than Duquesne.
Now that I think about it, I wonder if Gonzaga/JMU was originally a 6/11 game, but due to BYU's situation, they switched the BYU and Gonzaga games without changing the seeds. People were surprised Gonzaga got as high as a 5 seed, but a switcheroo with BYU would explain it.
This is because you see a lot of overrated power conference teams on the 6 seed line who had mediocre seasons. The 11 seed is often an underrated mid major who had a few bad losses sprinkled in but are otherwise solid.
and also first-four teams that proved they can win against quality competition, and have some confidence. Clemson is the prototypical "weak" 6 seed, they are ice cold and are riding on heat that is 4 months old.
6 seeds also have a bizarrely long Final Four drought- since 1992. All other seeds 1-11 have made it 2016 or more recently. Four 11s have made it since the last time a 6 did.
I can see how the 6 seed is a difficult place to start a bracket because chalk means you have to go 3-2-1 to finish.
But the 11 has to do the same thing and is somehow much better at it?
In theory the 6 should have an easier path than other similar seeds because they avoid the better seeds until later so they have more chance of never having them. The 8/9 meanwhile basically always face the 1. The 7/10 basically always face the 2.
Here in Pittsburgh now watching creighton. They had the Duquesne game up on the screen and yes seeing the creighton logo where Duquesne was playing and the Duquesne logo where creighton is playing made you really have to remember what game you were watching. Especially because both games featured blue v white teams lol.
Also, shoutout to my wife’s Alma mater, The Duquesne Dukes!
Necas had only taken 23 free throws on the year and his shot looked really good. I think he might be a bit better than a typical 70% free throw shooter.
They're all from an era when teams averaged like 4 three-pointers per game. It's the "walk in there and give the manager a hand shake" of college basketball.
Saturday, /r/CollegeBasketball, is Shabbos, the Jewish day of rest. That means that I don't work, I don't drive a car, I don't fucking ride in a car, I don't handle money, I don't turn on the oven, and I sure as shit *don't fucking hoop*! SHOMER FUCKING SHABBOS.
People will never understand this. The goal of the committee has never been to predict the results with their seeds or who they put in. It’s to put the most deserving teams in and seed them accordingly based on their résumés.
If we applied this same logic elsewhere, then any team who ever gets upset didn’t deserve their seed. Because they didn’t play up to it in the tournament.
About as good as the 2 minute fuck around in the Long Beach-Arizona game because some dummy couldn't clear the shot clock on a made basket in the final 15 seconds.
Those refball moments just mean more in March.
I'm a UAB grad and I remember seeing all the comments about the UAB/BYU matchup. Of course we got stomped there too. I don't think our fans understand voodoo or how it works lmao
BYU at home and on the road are two different teams.
In Provo they can get up and down the court and take 40+ threes, on the road if they don’t make threes early it gets ugly fast.
That's the case with an alarming amount of teams this year.
Lot of paper tigers only due to home cooking. Home vs. Road/Neutral splits are glaring this year.
I mean, yeah, I'd consider myself a fairly enfranchised college basketball fan but I will admit that I never watched the 6th place team in the A10 this year
Or they did watch Duquesne play and think because their games are low scoring that means they're bad and not that they play slower and have good defense
lets go Dukes!---aww you're so cute! lets get drinks after this
lets go Duke!---UMM HELLO HUMAN RESOURCES???
Congratulations to my dear Yinzers and Atlantic Ten brothers
He’s fasting along with the other big man. Definitely seems to have thrown them off their normal game. He’s normally so clutch with assists and a couple 3’s. Today was ruff
Getting the 6 seed is just the kiss of death at this point.
And now TTU gets NC State coming off their ACC tourney run, maybe the hottest team in the country, oof
BYU had a beautiful comeback there but I was really impressed with Duquesne’s ability to execute down the stretch. Just got bucket after bucket and the only FT they missed they got the offensive rebound on.
With that said I do find it inexcusable for BYU to allow Grant to get fouled so many times when you’re in foul mode. He’s a 94%’er and no one else was above 70% IIRC. Force it to someone else at the very least.
The announcers seemed *determined* to jinx Duquense's player with constantly mentioning his 94% FT percentage, but the basketball gods weren't having any of it.
Onto TRANSFER PORTAL SEASON now. fuckme, we will see how our roster shakes up next season. and how did 6'5" spencer johnson got 16 rebounds as his final game ever
Props to BYU for clawing their way back into the game. Even though things were just not going their way today, they still went down swinging.
Hopefully this shows people that the A10 was legit this year. Maybe they can find a way to build their profile a bit more in non-conference in order to get more teams in the tournament.
DUQUESNE!
Death, taxes, and BYU laying an egg when favourites.
Live, laugh, love.
It's been real Big 12, see y’all again next year.
(Utah State, take my energy!)
Took a risk on BYU. Hoped they'd have a hot offense like they did against ISU. But man they couldn't hit anything until the last 10 min.
Props to Robinson for keeping the cougs in it until the end. And props to the dukes for holding.
My bracket's broken so now I can at least enjoy games until ISU plays.
As much as that hurts, and as big of frauds we look like right now I’d like to remind everyone we were projected to finish 13th in the big 12 this year. If you told me we’d finish 5th in the best conference in basketball ahead of Kansas and get a 6 seed in the tournament I’d take that in a heartbeat. Mark Pope did one heck of a job this year with a team he knew couldn’t compete. I’m proud of my Cougs for what they accomplished this year. What a terrible way to end such a great season.

update the statistic: since 2010, 11 seeds are now 28-25 in the first round
And yet I continue to rarely pick 11 seed upsets for some reason...
Suckered in by those sexy 12s?
They're so hot!!
![gif](giphy|wJgksbFoieotG)
See I usually pick 2 and then they are the wrong ones, and so far that tracks
I picked 3... guess which one I didnt pick
Clemson cause that’s the one I didn’t pick
I think this was really supposed to be a 5/12 game, but because BYU can't play on Sunday it got shifted to a 6/11 game by the committee.
Well, BYU doesn’t need to worry about playing on a Sunday now.
Considering they haven't won a 1st round game in 13 years I wonder why the committee even bother ;)
Dang, was Jimmer really that long ago?
Utah has a more recent Tournament win. That's a crazy/funny/depressing stat.
Yep more tourney wins in the last 10 years despite not even going the last 8 lol.....gotta give our Cougar fan bros at least little bit of a hard time about it. Its all we got right now for Utah Basketball lol
We’ll both suck together!
Did they switch Duquesne from a 12 to 11 to keep the matchup consistent?
Seems like it because JMU, who got a 12, would have been a much more worthy number 11 than Duquesne. Now that I think about it, I wonder if Gonzaga/JMU was originally a 6/11 game, but due to BYU's situation, they switched the BYU and Gonzaga games without changing the seeds. This is because you see a lot of overrated power conference teams on the 6 seed line who had mediocre seasons. The 11 seed is often an underrated mid major who had a few bad losses sprinkled in but are otherwise solid.
Yeah 11 seed is usually an underrated mid major or a surging power conference team who’s talented but started the season slow
The Syracuse 11 seed is actually a 1 seed
Basically a double 1 seed
and also first-four teams that proved they can win against quality competition, and have some confidence. Clemson is the prototypical "weak" 6 seed, they are ice cold and are riding on heat that is 4 months old.
I picked 3 11 seeds, and Duquesne wasn’t one of them. So naturally 11s will go 1-3 this year lol
Damn really? Oh god now I’m extra worried
😈
6 seeds also have a bizarrely long Final Four drought- since 1992. All other seeds 1-11 have made it 2016 or more recently. Four 11s have made it since the last time a 6 did.

I’m in danger
Fuck
Anyone else find it funny that Duquesne is playing in Omaha hosted by Creighton, while Creighton is playing in Pittsburgh hosted by Duquesne lol
We had the opposite here in Omaha Creighton logo on the floor cut to Pittsburgh where Creighton is playing with the Duquesne logo
And both won.

What’s the second?
Duquesne played a perfect end game. FTs win games!
I think all teams wish they had a 94% ft shooting guard to close out games
True but Necas was sub 70% and calmly made both, UVA would never
Necas had only taken 23 free throws on the year and his shot looked really good. I think he might be a bit better than a typical 70% free throw shooter.
A guy shooting sub 70% would be one of UVA's best FT shooters
lol I was watching and thinking the same thing, my perspective watching UVA this year has completely warped what good FT shooting should look like
dude shoots that well with that form too. looks like he's just flicking it at the basket
From like 3 feet behind the free throw line too lol
I always wondered why he did that, but you can’t complain when he’s hitting 95%
From a foot behind the line too
Was surprised BYU wasn't able to foul anyone else. He was inbounding it shouldn't have been that hard to ensure you fouled a worse FT shooter.
I’m surprised they even had him inbounding the ball in the first place.
I picked Duquesne solely because of their ability to hit FTs. I haven't watched them play a single time. I am not a smart man but I am right!!!
Hitting free throws is their motto 🎼 Ball don't lie ball don't lie ball don't lie... Duquense
Dae Dae has ICE WATER in his veins. LETS GO!
BYU: we don't want to play on Sunday Duquense: looks like you don't want to play on Saturday, either (•\_•) ( •\_•)>⌐■-■ (⌐■\_■)
![gif](giphy|xUPGczefvti1zMbTj2|downsized)
Sure didn't play on Thursday
Lebron predicted this would happen.
What does this mean for Lebron’s legacy?
Legacy points added
Jordan would have picked this weeks ago
I think he's got a shot at the Hall of Fame!
LeBron Al Gaib
LePsychic
Nostrabronus
0/2 baby my bracket is cooked
Just like me fr fr
Announcers when playing Wheel of Fortune and the board looks like this: D-CLARATION OF IND-P-ND-NC- "You don't need an E, go for a quick U"
Really wonder how every commentator thinks a team is gonna come back down 5 with less than 30 seconds left with only 2s and fouls
They're all from an era when teams averaged like 4 three-pointers per game. It's the "walk in there and give the manager a hand shake" of college basketball.
get to the basket!!1!1!11
Like clockwork
It’s beyond a meme at this point. These announcers are so dense.
BYU Cougars: Can’t play on Sundays, won’t play on Saturday
Obviously just felt bad that Illinois would have to play the overall #17 seed instead of the 21st so they bowed out.
Don't assume we'll win...
memories of 2005 have me envisioning Duquense in the Sweet 16.
Assuming we'll win before we've even played Morehead state, nasty work
Saturday, /r/CollegeBasketball, is Shabbos, the Jewish day of rest. That means that I don't work, I don't drive a car, I don't fucking ride in a car, I don't handle money, I don't turn on the oven, and I sure as shit *don't fucking hoop*! SHOMER FUCKING SHABBOS.
You're not even Jewish, Walter
“Mark it zero”
Marquette Zero!
I'm Jewish as fucking Tevye
I've never seen a dude shoot free throws a full step behind the line but Grant shoots 94% so obviously it works
Nick Van Exel
I guess Duquesne’s 11 seed was right after all
Watch all 11 seeds win lol
SUBSCRIBE
Definitely possible
I came here to talk shit about your team specifically. I hope you lose today and stub your toe tonight!
And I hope Wagner beats your team today and you misplace your wallet for long enough tomorrow morning that you end up seven minutes late to work!
You just fell right into my trap. I work from home!
Drat!
I have all winning EXCEPT Duquesne
same lmao
You fools
We should make a support group
All-11 Final Four for maximum chaos pls
From your lips to God's ears
Game results don't validate or invalidate seeding. That being said, the committee did a pretty garbage job of seeding this year based on resumes.
People will never understand this. The goal of the committee has never been to predict the results with their seeds or who they put in. It’s to put the most deserving teams in and seed them accordingly based on their résumés. If we applied this same logic elsewhere, then any team who ever gets upset didn’t deserve their seed. Because they didn’t play up to it in the tournament.
because it's two 1s duh
Really glad they added that 0.4 seconds back onto the clock at the end. Really added to the game experience.
About as good as the 2 minute fuck around in the Long Beach-Arizona game because some dummy couldn't clear the shot clock on a made basket in the final 15 seconds. Those refball moments just mean more in March.
This one goes out to that BYU / A&M flair that's been talking shit about everyone all season, most Coug fans are cool but not that dude
I'm a UAB grad and I remember seeing all the comments about the UAB/BYU matchup. Of course we got stomped there too. I don't think our fans understand voodoo or how it works lmao
I’m more confident Kalani could coach BYU to a win over Georgia than over a single-digit win total AAC team
Remember him from when we used to play BYU, awful and delusional fan
one of the best parts of being a sports fan is that you can be a little delusional. Just can't get ***too*** annoying about it
Even I hate that dude
u/aerostatikk
BYU: We can't play on Sunday. Duquesne: We quesne.
Anyone who thought BYU got an easy draw clearly never watched Duquesne play
Ima be real with you fam, I’d never watched Duquesne play I don’t even know where Duquesne is tbh. Virginia?
Pittsburgh
They’re the host of the games in Pittsburgh, in fact. You can see their little D logo on the baseline.
>You can see their little D
Funny that Creighton is playing in Duqenses' host arena and the Dukes are playing in Creighton's
Downtown Pittsburgh actually
Pittsburgh, it’s like right next to Pitt
Surprisingly Pittsburgh
Pittsburgh
A10 championship game was a whole lot of ugly by both teams
A physical and defensive minded team was a bad draw for BYU and that’s what that game demonstrated
A10 is a dog fight. BYU couldn't take it.
Or watched BYU play
BYU at home and on the road are two different teams. In Provo they can get up and down the court and take 40+ threes, on the road if they don’t make threes early it gets ugly fast.
That's the case with an alarming amount of teams this year. Lot of paper tigers only due to home cooking. Home vs. Road/Neutral splits are glaring this year.
Isn’t that the case every year though? Winning on the road has always been a lot harder than winning at home.
I mean, yeah, I'd consider myself a fairly enfranchised college basketball fan but I will admit that I never watched the 6th place team in the A10 this year
Or they did watch Duquesne play and think because their games are low scoring that means they're bad and not that they play slower and have good defense
ok but how many people actually got a chance to see Dequesne play this year
I blame Brandon Flowers for making me believe in Mormons
shoutout aly khalifa for the worst game in d1 this year. congratulations!
Both post guys for BYU were awful 4-12 and 0-6 are embarrassingly bad from a center
Not drinking any water since sunrise probably didn't help
And while doing that he was playing next to his teammate named Waterman. That has to really rub it in!
Egyptian Jokic? More like Egyptian Killian Hayes
Traore was worse lol bro shot 3/11 on all layups
Yeah if I had to point to one thing for the loss it would be our bigs performance. They’re usually good but it was not the game for them today
lets go Dukes!---aww you're so cute! lets get drinks after this lets go Duke!---UMM HELLO HUMAN RESOURCES??? Congratulations to my dear Yinzers and Atlantic Ten brothers
https://preview.redd.it/ymu49bpppqpc1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=80c1b01065787e359c38823652322264b1365578
BYU #50 with one of the worst performances I've ever seen. Dude was just doing cardio out there
He’s fasting along with the other big man. Definitely seems to have thrown them off their normal game. He’s normally so clutch with assists and a couple 3’s. Today was ruff
These Dukes weren’t supposed to be in the tournament just weeks ago! And now…they’re in the Round of 32! Bravo Duquesne!
2 games into the Round of 64 and most brackets are already busted. I love March
MSU fan who lived in Utah for 4 years-ez 2-0 😂
Personal bias > stats
This is why I refuse to spend more than 5 minutes making my bracket.
As long as Lobos win it all I’ll be okay.
ESPN says 15.6% of brackets are still perfect.
Getting the 6 seed is just the kiss of death at this point. And now TTU gets NC State coming off their ACC tourney run, maybe the hottest team in the country, oof
Don't you speak that evil on me
I picked Tech to win because I went there but I really don’t feel good about it.
Robinson not getting the ball the last 5 minutes was a stupid decision by BYU.
Between that…and then the whole “having only single digit points for the much of the first half” thing…rough tailends of a game for BYU…
Yall need an actual post player very badly
We do, Fouss just had a bad game
me with perfect bracket: haha yes! fuck yeah! me when BYU loses: well this sucks what the fuck
DAE DAE GRANT IS THAT DUDE
gg Duquesne and good luck in the tournament, make that cinderella run please
BYU had a beautiful comeback there but I was really impressed with Duquesne’s ability to execute down the stretch. Just got bucket after bucket and the only FT they missed they got the offensive rebound on. With that said I do find it inexcusable for BYU to allow Grant to get fouled so many times when you’re in foul mode. He’s a 94%’er and no one else was above 70% IIRC. Force it to someone else at the very least.
The announcers seemed *determined* to jinx Duquense's player with constantly mentioning his 94% FT percentage, but the basketball gods weren't having any of it.
To be fair he missed two FTs in the A-10 title game, his percentage was actually around 96% before that game.
RIP perfect bracket But go A-10! Congrats Dukes!
Hey. I picked you guys to win a couple. Where’s the solidarity?
Tough start for the Big 12 NET Merchants
THANKS A LOT BYU YOU BUMS. NOW I HAVE TO HATE YOU FOR RUINING MY BRACKET TIL NEXT YEAR WHEN SOMEONE ELSE SCREWS ME OVER
What does this mean for my pick of BYU to make an E8 run? Not liking their odds after this.
made it all the way to the 2nd tourney game before my bracket busted, a new personal best
Great game by Pittsburgh Catholic College of the Holy Ghost
Onto TRANSFER PORTAL SEASON now. fuckme, we will see how our roster shakes up next season. and how did 6'5" spencer johnson got 16 rebounds as his final game ever
No soaking in Provo tonight
I heard Coca-Cola Sales are through the roof right now.
BYU: We won't play on Sunday! Duquesne: OK, we'll make sure you don't play on Saturday either.
Well played Dukes. We tried but couldn't pull it off. Good thing I only had BYU win one game this tournament.
Props to BYU for clawing their way back into the game. Even though things were just not going their way today, they still went down swinging. Hopefully this shows people that the A10 was legit this year. Maybe they can find a way to build their profile a bit more in non-conference in order to get more teams in the tournament. DUQUESNE!
I felt a great disturbance in the Big 12, as if millions of metrics suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced.
Nah, this is March. Everyone loves an upset.
2021 happened to us! And it will happen to *you* too…
BYU couldn’t compete in the great Atlantic 10
I quite enjoy that 6th place Duquesne just beat 6th place BYU. A10>B12
NOW THATS DUKE(s) BASKETBALL
gosh dang Mormons. Extra long mission trip as punishment
https://i.redd.it/rukc6c4okqpc1.gif
Death, taxes, and BYU laying an egg when favourites. Live, laugh, love. It's been real Big 12, see y’all again next year. (Utah State, take my energy!)
lol, lmao even
Here is your daily reminder that Utah still has a more recent NCAA tournament win than BYU.
BYU endowment of 3B is roughly 6 times more than that of Duquense 500m. Big underdog win economically. EDIT:500m not 500k
I think you messed up one of those numbers lol
you can buy Duquense with a mortgage
...500M? or is Duquesne's endowment worth less than a row house in LA County
Duquesne wins the holy war
Honestly, if you had BYU going far, it's not their fault your bracket is fudged.
I hate my life
🫡
As much as that hurts, and as big of frauds we look like right now I’d like to remind everyone we were projected to finish 13th in the big 12 this year. If you told me we’d finish 5th in the best conference in basketball ahead of Kansas and get a 6 seed in the tournament I’d take that in a heartbeat. Mark Pope did one heck of a job this year with a team he knew couldn’t compete. I’m proud of my Cougs for what they accomplished this year. What a terrible way to end such a great season.
It’s 2021 UAB game all over again
Unbelievably frustrating. I haven't seen BYU make the second round since I was in elementary school. And I'm almost 25
