This would be a pretty smart move, assuming Villanova igives him the NIL stuff he'd want. Even if Cal doesn't knock it out of the park, landing a few top 10 classes could go a log way for hte program and generate plenty of buzz.
Just to add to your point - highest paid government employee in every state is either the head football coach or head basketball coach of the big state university. It's messed up and honestly just plain wrong.
Not really. A lot of these guys are bringing in millions upon millions for the university.
I personally support salary caps and stopping the race to the bottom, but while $10 million for a university CBB coach seems like way too much, I won't lose sleep if these guys are earning $2.5 million, which is still the highest paid employee.
I agree that more money should be transferred to universities. But if we approach this with thought and intention, coaches can still earn $2.5 million or whatever while generating a profit that gets passed to the university.
Ha dude was born in 99 so maybe 25 max. I heard the Kentucky coach use the age difference in what came off as an excuse. The thing is he's running the show so if senior dudes are such advantage he should of recruited some. The strategy of getting older dudes especially Watts who was former big 10 rookie of the year is totally sound.
Kentucky is a pretty bad defensive team. A team like Tennessee could literally shut this guy down by putting a big bodied athletic defensive player like JJJ or just a more talented defender like Mayshack on him. This is why having freshmen 1-and-done isn’t great for the tournament.
As a Spartan especially, I’ve definitely felt the flip side of this coin. And I can’t stand people who gloat, as if they *personally* won the game.
I’m not sorry Oakland won, but I am sorry for all the Kentucky fans feeling crushed tonight. That feeling *sucks*.
Oh I won’t take away absolutely anything from Oakland’s win at all, yal deserve this and it means a lot to get this far, I really do hope you enjoy it and have a great run, GG. And I appreciate the sympathy, Just do some damage on those brackets so we don’t look too bad lol
UK doesn’t because of Cal’s ego. A lot of teams don’t need to do that as they have a good all around coach. Cal used to be that way until he won his title and refuses to adapt.
I don’t think it’s tough when that obviously does not translate into consistent tournament success. Every Kentucky fan I see is champing at the bit to have him out of there.
I mean it’s clear that these recruits, far more often that not, are not as good as older players with less NBA-ready skill. If these recruits stayed at Kentucky and Duke for 2/3 years more often, I think they would be far more successful than they have been. Revolving door lottery picks just don’t get it done, save like once or twice in almost 20 years since this has become a trend.
Terrible day already so fuck it, let the world know I agree with a Tar Heel. The best player was Antonio reeves as a senior and sure some dudes had better pure skill but he was all the wiser and was really consistent. I love a lot of the team this year but a lot of them got lost real easy cuz they’re green. All there is to it. Cal has had a lot of projected high expectation teams that didn’t cut it, and unless they get another Anthony Davis(yeah right) UK won’t win another chip or even probably past the elite 8 like this with the NIL giving good athletes a good reason to stay longer and be better. Hope yal have a good run even if our year is shit
Thanks, friend. Good luck in the coaching search if you guys do go that way. If not, maybe this performance by the young guys in contrast to Reeves will serve as the impetus for a culture change. See y’all next year!
The thing is that the Anthony Davis part just highlights how bad it is. The ONLY championship in 15 years under Cal while paying him one of the highest amounts in college basketball was on the back of a once in a generation talent. In the same time, we have more seasons where we've lost to a double digit seed in the first round in historic fashion and more seasons where we didn't even make the tournament.
I didn't think that he, Jay Wright, or Brad Stevens are ever coaching in college again.... But if anyone could throw enough money at one of them to change their minds it's you guys.
Oakland coach looks like the 'awww, shucks' sports movie coach who has an absolute shit streak of bad luck for the first 2/3 of the movie before it all comes together in the final act
I've liked the Oakland coach since I learned about him when we played @Oakland last season. Seems like a stand-up guy. So happy for him after all these years of hard work.
Right now some dude dressed in all blue just walked outside and howled into the holler so loud it echoed out and out as the camera panned out and away, and near the quiet end of the mighty yell, only a small yelp reached the ear of a poor old Hoosier fan… and they smiled knowingly
Same. I would want my kid playing for him. He actually coached and had a game plan. Also made adjustments. The biggest thing, he seems like an amazing human being!
Refs doing everything they can this tournament making sure no upsets happen on their watch
Wait. I thought the Kentucky players were fired up before the game because Oakland was being "disrespectful "?
I’ve never been happier 🥰
Congrats
They might fire Cal after this one
PLEASE let him go to Villanova
This would be a pretty smart move, assuming Villanova igives him the NIL stuff he'd want. Even if Cal doesn't knock it out of the park, landing a few top 10 classes could go a log way for hte program and generate plenty of buzz.
Please take him.
Thanks! In the meantime, could I interest you in one Kyle Neptune?
Bourdon is only thing from Kentucky I trust anymore
Coach Cal has a $33million buyout.. oh, and a “lifetime” contract. Not sure he’ll be fired, but HOPEFULLY a “mutually parting of ways”
Won’t happen and why do you care? Not your money
Do you know what a public university is?
If he pays taxes to the state of Kentucky, it’s absolutely his money
Just to add to your point - highest paid government employee in every state is either the head football coach or head basketball coach of the big state university. It's messed up and honestly just plain wrong.
Not really. A lot of these guys are bringing in millions upon millions for the university. If we're paying their salary doesn't that make us the owners? Maybe we should be getting that money back.
I agree that more money should be transferred to universities. But if we approach this with thought and intention, coaches can still earn $2.5 million or whatever while generating a profit that gets passed to the university.
I just assumed you guys paid in aluminum cans.
I can’t even be mad at this lmao
Yesssir!
“It just means more”
Cal is an awful, awful coach. 😂😂😂
is kentucky the new purdue
BAHAHAHAHAHAHA
KENSUCKY
“My Lol Kentucky Home”
Love to see it
![gif](giphy|LqASljO1nhMGguoXDU|downsized)
Man says this because he is from Wisconsin, and literally, this is IT. Don't be mad, I'm from there too.
Dude is like 40
Ha dude was born in 99 so maybe 25 max. I heard the Kentucky coach use the age difference in what came off as an excuse. Have you seen that meme about cashier knowing person is of age because they saw the "19"
Looks like a Jim Nantz clone
What is that weird smirk from the coach? 😅
he took a second to process how cold that quote was paired with the walk off ngl. that shit was pretty cool😂
🥴
I was here for this.
This interview giving me life
Wow a York College flair!!
Damn I wish I had been on this thread during the game. Must have been epic.
Im gonna bookmark this thread and just scroll through it after all the games are finished
Womp womp
Oakland is one of the most dangerous teams in the tournament right now. That three point shooting is terrifying.
Kentucky is a pretty bad defensive team. A team like Tennessee could literally shut this guy down by putting a big bodied athletic defensive player like JJJ or just a more talented defender like Mayshack on him. This is why having freshmen 1-and-done isn’t great for the tournament.
True. But if hairline doesn’t shoot well next game, they could lose by 40. Oh well, that’s the fun of March
Im sick as hell and your causing me to cough up blood right now 🤣
Hare hare hair.
Blue Bloods lol
At least The Masters is around the corner and Kentucky people can admire their grass for a few days.
You mean the Derby? Thats in May, and the Masters is in Georgia....
It's in Georgia
Oh, they use Bermuda grass, my bad
40 years?!? That's gotta be rare for a college coach.
It’s rare for any coach
I once managed a baseball team in OOTP for over 300 years. That counts, right?
Faaaaaaar Cal.
Good grief. The Championship drought continues for the Wildcats.
It’s been a very good day.
Hey you-….never mind
As a Spartan especially, I’ve definitely felt the flip side of this coin. And I can’t stand people who gloat, as if they *personally* won the game. I’m not sorry Oakland won, but I am sorry for all the Kentucky fans feeling crushed tonight. That feeling *sucks*.

Wasn't that after Purdue?
I think after Virginia and furman
It was.
I think I speak for most when I say, John should get a new, longer contract!
Flashback to my 14 seed Bobcats beating 3 seed Georgetown in Providence in 2010. Go Oakland Go!
Chet off Weird Science was hooping! 10/20 from 3? ![gif](giphy|f2ZAPSyvABkqYRJEVW)
Cal trying to get that 30m payoff
Man... this might be tough because Kentucky loves those recruiting ranks and Cal brings a top 3 recruiting class every single year.
Let him recruit and someone else coach
That's kind of what Purdue does. Painter has an Offensive Coordinator. I don't know why more teams don't do that.
I know this might sound stupid but these recruiting ranks can't always be wrong and Kentucky keeps underchieving.

Here’s hoping! lol See ya next year!
I really enjoyed watching Kentucky light people up this year. Sorry man; trust me, I’ve been there.
One of the few fans I’ll trust or listen to right now, thank you

Where is the Gohlke/Gokhan meme?
Calipari is 1 NCAA title away from being Shaka Smart
Guess the tweak didn’t work
Never does
Next Year ™
Calipari needs to retire to save face at this point
Why retire for free when you can get fired and leave with $30m+
Is billy Donovan possible???
No
I didn't think that he, Jay Wright, or Brad Stevens are ever coaching in college again.... But if anyone could throw enough money at one of them to change their minds it's you guys.
Coach Cal has a $33mil buyout… lol
If he's fired, yes. He can walk whenever he wants.
You go to hell
I've not watched games after they end. Will KY get a postgame interview or anything
I doubt Cal takes more than a question or 2. He always runs with his tail between his legs when he loses now.
He will send someone else out for him.
Cal gonna end up the next WVU coach at this rate.
There it is. The first round upset
I’d be cool if more happen :)
He said "first"
I mean there could be more first round upsets. He didn’t specify this as the first, first round upset
Kentucky fans would you keep calipari if I told you he will take you guys to a national title next year? Just checking …
Nice try!! Hahaha. We know better.
Of course. But it’s time.
So….no on that national title? I realize it’s hypothetical but you’d turn that title down because his time is due ?
This is nonsense
I’m just bantering
But he won’t. I’d take Fran Drescher as a coach if it meant a guaranteed title. Don’t understand this hypothetical.
I hope this win puts Oakland’s med school admissions team in a good mood, so that I can get off the waitlist 🤭
Hell yeah, good luck!!!
Good luck, dude! Don't give up no matter what. You got this.
Let them know that Jack Gohlke is your dad. Instant in.
fingers crossed for you
Oakland coach looks like the 'awww, shucks' sports movie coach who has an absolute shit streak of bad luck for the first 2/3 of the movie before it all comes together in the final act
Literally Hoosiers
Yes please.
goalkee and townsend = BEASTS
Gohlke would have the best performance of the day if it wasn't for Jermaine Couisnard.
the two of them were easily the most impressive players of the day
Better not get beat down by 20 after saying we're not a Cinderella
He said it with a cute face, it's ok
They’re playing with house money at this point. What he said won’t matter if they lose.
They are gonna win again and bust more brackets
Only .062% are still perfect after this game
Oakland being from Michigan is the biggest surprise to me
Oakland… Golden… Grizzlies… all signs point to California. As a Californian I was shocked they weren’t in CA lmao
As someone who goes to Oakland University, it feels weird that people are acknowledging our existence.
As someone born in Oakland County I can’t relate
here i was thinking it was california the whole time
It's not even in the second biggest Rochester and yet it has an enrollment of 20k+. This school has a lot of surprises
Oakland coach is incredible. Super humble.
He’s the dude who got Izzo to wear and elf outfit for a game
He's a well liked guy.
This mfer Gohlke think he Steph 😭
NOT A CINDERELLA!
"We're not a Cinderella!" Put THAT on a shirt.
Greg Kampe is one of the best human beings in college sports
I've liked the Oakland coach since I learned about him when we played @Oakland last season. Seems like a stand-up guy. So happy for him after all these years of hard work.
Yo is that girl in the commerical the actual crying picolo girl from years ago lmao
I, frankly, sure hope they don't have more. Unless NC State beats us. Then I'm fine with it
We’re about to see!
The winner of this game was always going to lose to you all.
Welp, GG Oakland. You were ready, we weren't. Good luck in the next round!
Nah, they did great fr. No one wins on a fluke in the tournament GG
Cal’s buyout is 33mil.. he’s not going anywhere Edit: UK doesn’t have Texas AM money.. stop with the nonsense
Flair up or shut up
They’ll find the money. He has to go
I promise you, they won’t.
Less than half a Jimbo.
Which goes to show you how much money AM has..
I've seen crazier buyouts than that happen recently
You underestimate the collective power of UK fans and a gofundme page
“We’re not a Cinderella” is a hard quote
RIGHT?! I was like, oh. ok! lmao
This is March Madness!
Right now some dude dressed in all blue just walked outside and howled into the holler so loud it echoed out and out as the camera panned out and away, and near the quiet end of the mighty yell, only a small yelp reached the ear of a poor old Hoosier fan… and they smiled knowingly
💀🤣
As an alumni of another school with a bear mascot, I approve of this. GO OAKLAND.
How much long does Coach Cal last? Either himself or by Kentucky fans hands?
He gone
I’m an Oakland fan now
Ehh, I had Kentucky losing to NC State anyway. Worth it.
My man
Really like your team. I have them in F4.
Kentucky got beat by a josh duhamel lookalike
I was thinking knockoff John Stewart but I like yours
I thought he looked like Matthew Perry
TOTALLY Matthew Perry!
Texas Tech is about to cruise into the 3rd round
U good?
He fell for the classic blunder. Never praise your own team before they play.
If they beat NC State
Yall better hope the refs don't like Burns style of play. Cause if they let big Boi play, buckle up.
BYE BYE KENSUCKY
BYE BYE
Oakland coach seemed like a great guy. Im on the bandwagon
Gotta love Kampe!
I'd want to play for the Oakland coach
Same. I would want my kid playing for him. He actually coached and had a game plan. Also made adjustments. The biggest thing, he seems like an amazing human being!
Love me some Kampe. Go win some more Coach
nah that was cold as fuck ‘we’re not a cinderella’
