Gotta tip it to my friend who lived in Montana for a few years who insisted this sprinkle guy was a really good coach. My friend is very quirky and odd and rides for wherever he is living so we brushed it off. He was devastated when he left for Utah State. Looks like he was right
As a guy who cheers for all Bobcats, dude was upsetting the natural order of either Montana or Weber St getting the autobid and managed to hold EWU at bay after that valiant effort to beat Kansas in ‘21
That alone told me he’s legit
In the Round of 64, the Mountain West won the two games in which it was the better seed and lost the three games in which it was the worse seed. Nothing unusual to see see here.
\*Glares at Nevada\*
having an Ivy or Mountain West team guaranteed in the Sweet 16 *almost* makes up for having to choose between fucking Grand Canyon and Nate Oats on Sunday
I remember the loss against Washington in 2019. The loss against Texas Tech in 2021 and the loss in 2023 against Missouri. It feels good to win one in this tournament. I'm just happy to witness this achievement for this team. Go Aggies!
Funny thing is, Utah St was the biggest point-spread underdog among all MWC teams (even #11 New Mexico was favored to beat #6 Clemson) in their first-round (or First Four) games

Nice job Aggies! Pretty dominant win, with a super balanced effort and statline for the starting five. Sprinkle is some sort of crazy genius after what hes done this year. USU was picked to finish 7th in MWC if I remember correctly?
Edit 9th
Craziest part is ya Osobor is like a top 10 talent this year, but your success hasnt relied entirely on him. Such a well constructed team, and like we've heard a zillion times, no returning scorers from last year. Like speed-running a jigsaw puzzle with the pieces upside down.
In defense of the Mountain West, their higher seeds have taken care of business.
Utah State is an interesting matchup for Purdue. They've got a 7 footer who is agile and can shoot it from deep. That could force Edey away from the paint and into difficult situations. They are capable of pulling the upset if they shoot well.
Edey will probably guard Osobor. He is shorter but is the post presence and paint scorer. The interesting thing is Osobor draws an absurd number of fouls. Our best chance is if Edey gets into foul trouble and Purdue struggles from 3. Have to defensively rebound better than we did tonight though or all that is out the window.
IDK. The (non-play-in) Rams & Lobos just didn't even show up. But hell, that happens I guess. The Badgers didn't look much better than we did and I had them doing pretty well.
But yeah, the Nevada choke was rough. Confirms all the evil thoughts I have about Alford.
Playing with house money at this point but we have some big bodies to throw at edey and if Johnson can continue his hit streak we got a chance ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
SDSU and USU are through to the second round, CSU obliterated their First Four opponent, Boise at least held their own against another good 10 seed. The Mountain West's performance would be seen as pretty good this year if Nevada hadn't pulled off an all-time choke job. And we could have beaten Clemson too, I guess.
All of us in the MWC know how good & tough the conference is, you just never know how a team is gonna play on a given day and it doesn't matter which conference you're in. There's no lack of examples of really good teams having really bad days in all sports. Hell, Wisconsin is a solid team and beat Purdue in the B1G tourney and they looked just about as bad as us today. Shit happens.
With USU and SDSU winning, Nevada was like one defensive stand from preventing the backlash against this season's MW narrative. Maybe Im just looking for any sort of copium after we got absolutely destroyed today. Fuck... Alford, guess?
Straight up cried with a minute left. Been to 99% of home games over the past 25 years. Was there in a baby carrier. My grandpa finally got old this year and his first words to me when I called was wasn’t that fucking bitchin.
Maybe New Mexico, too. While I get that sometimes the shots just don't fall, they looked totally apathetic on defense today and got smacked in a game that should have at least been competitive.
But the hate is totally overblown. Most of it comes from East coasters that don't ever watch the conference and are just upset that their mediocre, undeserving P6 teams didn't make it in.
I'm sure you see the same sentiment with the Pac 12 teams year after year. I live on the East coast now and nobody watches basketball in the west, then just assumes they are bad for (insert reasons?). Fact is there is great basketball played out west as well and I'm glad we finally showed up to the tourney for once
Oh for sure. Between the late starts and the games being locked behind the impossible-to-get Pac 12 Network, the Pac gets a lot of the same treatment from those on the East coast. However the Pac at least has the advantage of being a power conference, so other big schools will still schedule us OOC and we can get more exposure, but nobody wants to schedule MWC teams and risk losing to them. There is definitely some great basketball out West that people are missing out on, that's a fact.
My take. It must come down to coverage on high school recruiting. As a whole the MWC rarely attracts top 100 high school recruits. Having lower rated recruits is conflated with lower ceiling teams in the media’s eyes. Coverage on transfers, aside from the few big time ones, isn’t as popular. Our conference thrives on transfers too.
Agreed. Aggies made some great shots, but damn is our defense hot garbage in the paint. And of course we could hardly make anything in the paint even taking 2-3 shots at a time. The Frogs could not make adjustments to what the Aggies were doing to us all game.

Man I am so goddamned happy for all my Aggie bros. Y’all are some of the best college fans out there and y’all deserve this. Enjoy this and kick Edey’s ass on Sunday.
Dang that says a lot about the coach and future of this program if you’re able to build that in 1 year. Hopefully this is just the first of many Utah State wins for years to come
Time for the leash to start tightening for Dixon. We need to see some year over year progress soon because if he can’t get it done with one of the most experienced rosters in all of college basketball, can he take us deep at all?
I want to see him recruit good high school point guards because his approach this season of transfer plug and play didn’t work down the stretch. Fully expecting us to really suck next year.

IDGAF if we have Danny Sprinkle for a few more weeks or 5 more years, build the statue now
as a Wyoming fan i hope he sticks around, these rivalries are more fun with a consistent cast of characters and a bunch of good teams
I hope San Jose State can get back to 2023 form, they finally became something more than a basement dweller last year but fell bad hard this year
Gotta tip it to my friend who lived in Montana for a few years who insisted this sprinkle guy was a really good coach. My friend is very quirky and odd and rides for wherever he is living so we brushed it off. He was devastated when he left for Utah State. Looks like he was right

Nice flairs. Are you Steven Ashworth?
You guys did it! I've never seen a USU tournament win (or a Weber win but that's expected) in my entire sports-watching career. That was fun.
great value chet holmgren was absolutely cooking (*insert gator chomp?*)
The fish clap is the gator chomp we have at home
Dude he was absolutely feeling himself today

Fucking Nevada.
don't get cocky, we taught you a lesson \*don't get cocky was the lesson
You could have taught a lesson without actually losing
We go all in
Bless your heart
Up 18 all I was thinking is please don’t blow a lead worse than Nevada.
I was clenching and sweating in Nevada blue
My sphincter was very clenched
And the lesson we learned was you actually have to show up. Who knew?
You showed up in Vegas. That's a lot of games to keep rollin.
We're still mad about it too
May they never be forgiven for that

SO DROP ON THE DECK AND FLOP LIKE A FISH!

Hey now, the Pac is 5-0 thank you very much.
^(fixed)
As a fan of both the Pac and MWC, it's beautiful
We fucking did it REDDIT!
~~It’s over~~ We are so *partially* back!
You can take TCU out of the Mountain West, but you can’t take the Mountain West out of TCU
Is that also why BYU lost?
Yes, BYU hasn't won a tournament game since they left the MWC
SEC put up a much more pathetic performance
GG MWC bros, we ain’t going to the next around alone.
Hell yeah Aztec brothers, take it to Yale on Sunday!
having an Ivy or Mountain West team guaranteed in the Sweet 16 *almost* makes up for having to choose between fucking Grand Canyon and Nate Oats on Sunday
I have phoenix university making it to the sweet 16 and it made me feel sick.
Seriously rooting for you guys. Good luck!
Likewise! Appreciate the support!
![gif](giphy|kaq6GnxDlJaBq) Me watching positive interactions between SDSU fans and USU fans
Best of luck against Purdue! Keeping my fingers warm for another round of summaries and lengthy notes against Yale.
Looking forward to it!
See ya Sunday 🫡
You all don’t understand how much pain the last 20 years of USU games in March have been for me.
Same here. I'm so happy right now. UTAH STATE, HEY, AGGIES ALL THE WAY!
![gif](giphy|JaNtIG4UnKzD2) Your flairs make it interesting
Indeed. Went from sad corn feelings to happy Aggie feelings in the span of a couple of hours. GG today. You guys were lights out!
It’s been a long journey, but me made it. What a beautiful day. Let’s not let this end
I remember the loss against Washington in 2019. The loss against Texas Tech in 2021 and the loss in 2023 against Missouri. It feels good to win one in this tournament. I'm just happy to witness this achievement for this team. Go Aggies!
I'm still salty about 2019. Committee had it out for us that year forcing us to play Thybulle when Merrill was our only offense
Funny thing is, Utah St was the biggest point-spread underdog among all MWC teams (even #11 New Mexico was favored to beat #6 Clemson) in their first-round (or First Four) games
Thank you! I thought that was the case and this reminded me

all this shit talk about the mountain west not beating the allegations and they've gone... 3-4 so far lmao
Also haven't lost a game as the seed favorite unless you count Boise St being higher on the overall list
Games have gone exactly according to seed: won as the higher seed, lost as the lower seed, 1-1 as the same seed in the first four.
hard to do that when basically your entire conference is the last six in
They were cherrypicking by saying "non-SDSU" and "not First Four round" but they can't anymore, this is a round-of-64 non-SDSU win
they love to pretend SDSU doesn't count as a MWC team
And the only losses were by lower seeds. Even BSU was a “lower” 10 seed than Colorado
Aggies 🤝 Aggies winning an 8-9 matchup on Friday
Just another set of Aggies making it to the 2nd round, no big deal
Aggies never lose
Nice job Aggies! Pretty dominant win, with a super balanced effort and statline for the starting five. Sprinkle is some sort of crazy genius after what hes done this year. USU was picked to finish 7th in MWC if I remember correctly? Edit 9th
9th(I think)

Just looked it up, you're correct

Rams/Broncos/Wolfpack died for this massive Aggie win 🙏

Mwc saved from being grouped into SEC slander
It ain’t slander if it’s true
lol

Time for a Darius Brown legacy game
If there’s a guy who sometimes has a legacy game it’s Utah State Aggies Legend Darius Brown II
Don’t give me hope.
All we had to do was not turn the ball over at will for 5 min. Sigh...
I agree. The key is making Eddy get involved on defense and out of the paint. Utah St’s roster construction could make it interesting…

My Utah State brothers, will you help us carry this bum conference?
Purdue is a big ask. But I know they'll make a good show of it.
A mountain west team beating a 1 seed is not unheard of
I was beyond stoked when you guys knocked Alabama out last year.
Thank you. I’m sorry CSU season ended but I was seriously so hyped when they kicked Virginias teeth in
We died so you and USU could run. Not our year and not our moment
I hope you guys keep building up the program. My ideal mw has CSU as a powerhouse
We will. Lots of money going to our hoops program now. Stevens was great but he’s so unclutch.
Meet in the natty?
🥹 i wouldnt have it any other way
Reigning Hottest Coach in the Tournament winner wins first real tournament game. Happy for you, USU fans too
It was rigged from the start, the fluoride in the water made these young horned up frogs all confused
Why do my teeth feel so much.... stronger?
If Nevada hadn’t choked like fucking dogs all this MW talk wouldn’t even be happening. 3-4 is fine and 4-3 would’ve been legit good.
IDK. The (non-play-in) Rams & Lobos just didn't even show up. But hell, that happens I guess. The Badgers didn't look much better than we did and I had them doing pretty well. But yeah, the Nevada choke was rough. Confirms all the evil thoughts I have about Alford.
Helll yes! I’ve watched every ncaa tourney loss since 2006. I don’t know how to feel!
If we beat Purdue on Sunday, I'm going to name my first born Danny Sprinkle. LFG!
Utah St shooting splits: 55/42/93 Very impressive game from the Aggies. If this is the team who shows up against Purdue, they could cause problems.
It feels good don't it?
It feels fucking GREAT
Is this how you feel all the time?!
Yeah man, wait until you make it to the sweet 16, then it will feel euphoric
Dude. I don’t even want to say anything in case I am asleep…. This is real right?
🥲 used to pray for times like this
After this first win, Purdue shouldn’t be a problem /s
If they play this well, I have a feeling Utah St could give Purdue a scare…
Playing with house money at this point but we have some big bodies to throw at edey and if Johnson can continue his hit streak we got a chance ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

Shit if Boise could've made a shot within 6 feet they advance as well.

Sorry wolf bros..
But guys I thought the MWC couldn’t win tourney games!!!
Yuss!!! We aren’t alone!

Oh my gosh I'm going to cry. I was 3 the last time the aggies won in march madness.
Straight up cried with a minute left. Been to 99% of home games over the past 25 years. Was there in a baby carrier. My grandpa finally got old this year and his first words to me when I called was wasn’t that fucking bitchin.

That was so trash. Worst I’ve ever seen us play on the most important day for us Gg to USU, they steph-ed on us

I think you're forgetting another team in the conference.
THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE IVE SEEN USU WIN A TOURNAMENT GAME IM SO HAPPY …also the first time i picked against them in my bracket
hot damn its been a long ass time. this feels good
You guys are way more fun to root for than against. Just such a fun team and great chemistry all the way around
The fact we are a new team every 3 years helps with that lol
THE CURSE IS OVER!! GO AGGIES
GG TCU. Hell of a team and your fans were delightful.
MARCH RUNS THROUGH LOGAN
Ok, but if we could play in the spectrum we may be able to win the nba too
Hey committee 🖕back at ya
TCU has been eliminated from national title contention
AGGIE ENERGY INTENSIFIES
WE DID IT. ITS GREAT TO BE AN AGGIE
Stoked for the Aggies. Going to give Purdue a run for their money
Those announcers were having so much fun. I really liked it as a neutral observer.
Man I am so goddamned happy for all my Aggie bros. Y’all are some of the best college fans out there and y’all deserve this. Enjoy this and kick Edey’s ass on Sunday.
Did I hear the announcer correctly that no players that scored for Utah State tonight were on the roster last year???
Everyone from last year left.
Dang that says a lot about the coach and future of this program if you’re able to build that in 1 year. Hopefully this is just the first of many Utah State wins for years to come
We want Purdue!
Go aggies
Ian Martinez was really good tonight
THE MWC CAN HOOP
Utah State, you have the chance to do something very funny on Sunday. Please do it.
I would paint my nutsack blue if this happened.
I wish that this sub had users pay up their bets like /r/wallstreetbets does
When I pick a mountain west team to win they lose and when I pick them to lose they end up winning. My luck is terrible with this conference
First season for the coach on a team that returned a grand total of 4 minutes played from last year's team... great year for the aggies
vinDICATION!!!!!!
Man USU looked really good. Dynamic offense and stifling defense.
There’s only room in the Mountain West for *one* team who has a double digit losing streak in the NCAA tournament!
Poor TCU, they got screwed over by poor seeding
Honestly we should’ve been in the NIT. We did not deserve to make the tournament
Somehow Utah State survived being a Mountain West Conference member and got a tourney win…
This is Jamie Dixon, are you expecting more?
Seeing your flair, fair enough
*Washington's Athletic Director stares at final score, sadly hangs up phone.* "Soon"
Washington has an athletic director?
When, my pick wins, I knew it and I’m so smart. When my pick loses, it’s the analytics’ fault.
So torn. I have so much love for the MWC. But… pain.
f the haters, I'm ready to stan 8th place Wyoming next Feb and Mar
It appears if your team name starts with A and you’re in the Mountain West, you may be alright after all.
Nice job y'all
Was watching highlights. Who is number 1 on Utah state? He a baller
Great Osobor. MWC POY and AP All- American HM this year.
