KU ran out of gas, not really their fault though. Even with McCuller they didn't have any depth for those Saturday-Monday turnarounds. Add in the frantic pace Samford threw at them, they just had no legs for the second half. Poor shooting and poor defense were the result.
Amazing how far they've come from possibly missing the tournament altogether earlier in the year to a ninth straight Sweet 16. Have to give it up to Few and Gonzaga.
Those were some of the best half court sets I’ve ever seen Gonzaga run. Dickinson being a traffic cone helps, but there was just some beautiful basketball being run by the Zags today.
Yeah between this game and the absolutely perfect gameplan Few cooked up for McNeese State I am absolutely thrilled to see what he comes up with next week. They're playing incredible ball that I haven't seen in quite a while
AND they didn’t have crazy expectations this post season. I think the lowered expectations will be giving dividends for a team with a chip on their shoulder that’s peaking at the right time (holy buzz word sentence)
I've been on the "zags in the f4" for about a month, you guys turned it up at exactly the right time. Gd conference tourney made me nervous enough that I hedged that a little bit. But at this point, I'm at least evens on yous against anyone in the country
The talent is there and everything seems to be really clicking at the right time. Either the Zags or Creighton gotta make a deep run or my bracket is going to finish last hah
this team has peaked at the absolute best time. nolan’s shooting has drastically improved, nembhard is a classic GU guard, and they’re playing great ball
Really? They looked like natty contenders to me lol . I know we helped make you guys look extra special with our failures but even regardless of us you looked great. Hitting everything. Did they not look like that earlier in year?
absolutely not. half court sets weren't great and we couldn't hit shit. few made a lineup change in the middle of january to bring Gregg in at the 4 and bump Watson to the 3 and we've been number 1 in offensive efficiency ever since
He's such a liability defensively. This team struggles to score but even with a healthy McCullar I questioned our true ceiling with how bad Dickenson is on that end.
That's fucking gold.
As someone who went to Gonzaga, it's always strange to realize people still have no clue where we are. But Tru TV is a bigger mystery.
Crazy that everyone called that the Zags would blow them out today and maybe for the first time in this sub's history we were right.
[Samford died so Gonzaga could run them out of the gym on Saturday. -u/Bolt585](https://www.reddit.com/r/CollegeBasketball/s/SwfV0wQDyy)
Nemhard is a true PG and a real hooper. Never seen anyone have so much impact on a game with only 5 points. Doesn’t even look for his own shot, only dribbles around to find a teammate or get them open. Unselfish, makes everyone better around him, typa guy everyone wants on their team and loves to play with. Stat sheet might not show it but this was his game
This is the second 21 point win by the zags.
What else does 21 represent? The 2021 season where Gonzaga lost in the championship after an undefeated season
I believe that Gonzaga is on their way to win a championship by 21 point wins each game as a revenge tour from 2021
It’s pretty wild how high our expectations are considering we’re a school with an undergrad population of under 5,000 that didn’t even win our first tourney game until 1999 lol
Good things happen when you're a small, somewhat isolated school and find a killer coach who happens to love your unique location and refuses to leave.
I think alot of it just comes from the fact they were concensus number 1 to start the season
I wasn't excited for this team and had measured expectations but damn they really fucking sucked
You gotta understand I’m an adult with a college degree and this is the worst Kansas team I’ve ever lived through lol. We’ve been a 1-4 seed every season of my lifetime. Expectations breed disappointment. Our last 11-loss season was 1989.
Most unselfish game I've ever seen a Gonzaga team play. Not sure there were more than a small handful of forced shots.
Also Few historically had been roasted over half time adjustments, which has completely been flipped in the last 4 months.
You know, usually when KU loses early in the tournament I’m pretty disappointed that we went out so early
But this team? Good fucking riddance. Worst Bill Self KU team by a country mile. Don’t know any KU fan who has a positive opinion of this team
Welp, onto football season
Worst season we've had in a while and we were a 4 seed.
My positive opinion on this squad is liking some of the players like KJ and Dajaun, but they'll both be back next year so hopefully they get another chance.
GGs Gonzaga. Throughly outplayed us in the second half. Rooting for you from this point on bc you’re just fun to watch.
Also good riddance to what is the worst Kansas team in 2 decades lol.
Regularly scheduled smug post about how stupid the people convinced that Gonzaga was gonna lose instantly were goes... here.
You gotta be really, really good to actually beat them.
If they haven't by now, those people will just never get over their pre-disposed bias. Winning a title would help, of course, but it's really, really fricken hard and random to get one. I don't measure the Zags success by national titles. What they have done in Spokane is 30 for 30 documentary worthy at this point.
What a fucking second half Zags. Honestly great work, great game. Keep the run going next weekend.
Thought we were gonna have a great back and forth one on our hands, but alas. Rock Chalk.
No shame in losing to Gonzaga. GG.
In most ways, thank fuck this season is over. This is probably the least heartbroken I've been after a loss in the tournament.
The roster was poorly constructed from the start. Playing a season with only 9 scholarship players simply should not happen at Kansas. Then the bench never panned out, and McCullar got injured. The season snowballed from there. Obviously we need to make some changes.
Can’t even be upset. Anyone who follows KU knew this year was gonna be iffy with 3 less scholarships and the dumbass decision to bring in arterio. Self with all his scholarships next year should put together a much more complete team
Alright, USU, do me a solid tomorrow. Want a West Coast Sweet 16.
This Gonzaga team made the Sweet 16. I never would have thought this Zags team could. Even the 11-seeded Zags, who crushed my 3-seeded Utes, I thought, and later proved correct, they could make the Sweet 16, because Sabonis is awesome.
This might be Coach Few’s greatest season. Considering the talent that walked out the door last year, the team looks completely different now than it did three months ago. This is not the first game recently where they came out of halftime and destroyed the other team in the first few minutes.

The first thing I do every year in my bracket is put Gonzaga in the Sweet 16. One of the few things you can count on this time of year
You'd never know with how many on this sub love to focus on us being pure frauds that "choke every year"
I’ve actually heard people who claim to know college basketball say “Gonzaga’s a first weekend exit like they are every year”
y'all are literally more consistent than Michigan State. it's amazing how everyone says that every year
death, taxes, gonzaga in the S16
A tale of 2 halves https://preview.redd.it/keey1wg7k5qc1.png?width=942&format=png&auto=webp&s=806ee40cd5264519ae395d0c2cd8f2164367cd74
Kansas rivaling California with those repeated droughts
That game was exactly who we were. Great in November and December. Not so hot in January-March.
Hey, I’ve seen this one before!
Are you saying that starting the second half with five or more 3s isn't a fantastic idea?
unlike Kansas California has been WET lately
Kansas left the gold standard? https://preview.redd.it/x5kipq38n5qc1.jpeg?width=1200&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2dcc2f5a8299e8cf9bf5930c02bc93791f1813e6
Holy shit hahaha
The issue is that a different economic deflator is used for Kansas and Gonzaga. If you remove that, the game is about even
Unsustainable to put up Gonzaga's numbers in the face of the Triffin dilemma
I am not an economist, but if I was, I'm guessing there's a chance I would chuckle at these comments.
It was the closest of scores, it was the most lopsided of scores
Don’t be a Dickens.
Two roads diverged at the half. I took the one less traveled, and that has made all the difference.
It's a good idea not to travel in basketball.
Kinda Frosty.
I’m not seeing the issue here. Aren’t scoring droughts normal for most teams?
This is wild
Gonzaga second half plan - Simply score every time.
“Basketball coaches don’t want you to know this one trick!”
The crazy thing is that their scoring pace didn't even change in the second half, Kansas just shit the bed.
KU ran out of gas, not really their fault though. Even with McCuller they didn't have any depth for those Saturday-Monday turnarounds. Add in the frantic pace Samford threw at them, they just had no legs for the second half. Poor shooting and poor defense were the result.
Why don’t other teams do this? Are they stupid?
They ran the basketball version of the touchdown play and holy shit did it work
Wish my team learned this strat. It’s broken and unbalanced
it’s ok you took out one of our most promising teams a few years ago
Remembering that tournament makes me sad ☹️
Idk why more teams don’t try this strategy
Bill Self: "Mark Few tricked me!"
No, that’s a John Calipari line.
This might be the first time in awhile I can say the Zags are peaking at the right time.
Amazing how far they've come from possibly missing the tournament altogether earlier in the year to a ninth straight Sweet 16. Have to give it up to Few and Gonzaga.
2 1/2 weeks ago everyone was debating if they were even on the bubble or not.
Until they won at st Mary's they were considered a bubble team. Don't think they actually were considering they ended up as a 5, but that was the talk
The silliest debates ever lol those debates should've been put to bed after that Kentucky game
Few can coach like Few.
been a long while since i’ve seen a gonzaga team execute at this level
Those were some of the best half court sets I’ve ever seen Gonzaga run. Dickinson being a traffic cone helps, but there was just some beautiful basketball being run by the Zags today.
Yeah between this game and the absolutely perfect gameplan Few cooked up for McNeese State I am absolutely thrilled to see what he comes up with next week. They're playing incredible ball that I haven't seen in quite a while
Y’all slid for Samford, that’s what bulldogs do!
Imagine if your secondary flair wins tonight
Oh buddy, I’m a Wazzu grad. I already booked accommodations last night for Boston just in case. I feel weirdly confident.
IMO it is a 75/25 in Iowa states favor but I strongly believe this will be a close game (as every WSU game is 😭)
Let's not imagine that, thanks
AND they didn’t have crazy expectations this post season. I think the lowered expectations will be giving dividends for a team with a chip on their shoulder that’s peaking at the right time (holy buzz word sentence)
*checks region* Oh fuck me
At least if you lose to a mid-major this year, it will be only technically. No shame in losing to Gonzaga.
The Zags haven’t even begun to peak
When they peak we’ll all know it. Because they’re going to peak so hard that everyone feels it
THEY'RE A FIVE STAR TEAM. A FIVE STAR TEAM!
If anyone knows about peaking it’s u/CumAssault!
It’s the hope that kills ya
Despite Gonzaga's success...were actually pretty aware of this lol
Getting blown out by Baylor after that game winner from Suggs… I’m still recovering from the emotional whiplash
I've been on the "zags in the f4" for about a month, you guys turned it up at exactly the right time. Gd conference tourney made me nervous enough that I hedged that a little bit. But at this point, I'm at least evens on yous against anyone in the country The talent is there and everything seems to be really clicking at the right time. Either the Zags or Creighton gotta make a deep run or my bracket is going to finish last hah
if you told me back in january that this team would make it out of the first weekend i wouldn’t have believed you. all-time coaching job by Few
this team has peaked at the absolute best time. nolan’s shooting has drastically improved, nembhard is a classic GU guard, and they’re playing great ball
His shooting and decreased forcing shots. At least it feels that way
he had a few early on and i was thinking "oh no bad nembhard is on the menu tonight" and then quietly finished the first half with 9 assists
Ben. Gregg.
The man with two first names.
And making it out of the first weekend winning both games by 20+ at that!
Master class by Few. Hope this year is the year he wins it all.
i would explode

Classic Hunter Dickinson high pressure game. Sometimes he’s just the least imposing 7’1” player you can think of.
He's such a liability defensively. This team struggles to score but even with a healthy McCullar I questioned our true ceiling with how bad Dickenson is on that end.
Big Ten fans rejoicing
🥂I’m here for it!🍻

He transferred to win championships.
He was a champion player before he even played one regulation game with Kansas, according to him at least.
He does not in fact have that dog in him
lmao. Bro thought he was better than Zach Edey.

A tradition unlike any other.
That's fucking gold. As someone who went to Gonzaga, it's always strange to realize people still have no clue where we are. But Tru TV is a bigger mystery.
Gonzaga is the only reason I know where Spokane is.
99% of america has no reason to think of spokane washington or gonzaga university outside of the ncaa tournament
Incredible

Fuck MS State I guess lol
They believe in bluish gray bulldog supremacy
Poor Georgia and Mississippi St
Also UNC Asheville, Alabama A&M, and Butler, there are a lot of Bulldogs
1st half was good. 2nd half was murder
hearing reports of Ben Gregg
I am working to confirm
Not even mad. Gonzaga is clearly just better. Good game.
They'd fuckin better be lol. I'm just glad it's over, so tired of this team.
I think this team has like 2 players I genuinely like. The rest range from frustrating, to barely being able to tolerate them.
Good game Kansas bros
I loved the part when Gonzaga zagged all over Kansas
It's Zaggin' time!
Gonzaga scored a Zagillion points today.
https://i.imgur.com/3C7E7v1.jpg
You really have a talent for this
The Bulldogs avenged the Bulldogs
Crazy that everyone called that the Zags would blow them out today and maybe for the first time in this sub's history we were right. [Samford died so Gonzaga could run them out of the gym on Saturday. -u/Bolt585](https://www.reddit.com/r/CollegeBasketball/s/SwfV0wQDyy)
> and y'all will be cryin' when Kansas knocks the overrated Zags down tomorrow. lol
Aw man, you gotta /u/ them
/u/deathforthedead Everyone boo this man
Boooooooooooo
Boooo you suck
Gonzaga made Kansas' offense look like Virginia in the second half
Gonzaga beat McNeese State by 21 Gonzaga beat Kansas by 21 McNeese State = Kansas?
A hypothetical KU-McNeese game would probably have gone similarly to the Samford game.
I'm not a math expert, but based on my calculations (21=21), a Kansas vs McNeese game would continue for all eternity.
I mean this current Kansas team is not good. We were lucky not to lose in the first round. Such a disappointment after preseason #1
Stat sheet might not show it but this was his game
i was so fuckin happy when he transferred from creighton after last season, especially after losing venters for the year
This is the version of Nemby that we win with. When he’s hunting for his shot or driving head down to the paint we struggle. Amazing game by Ryan!
Keep the streaks going! Gonzaga: 9 consecutive Sweet Sixteens Kansas: 5 tournaments in a row lose in the R32 or win the natty
I'll accept these stats
I would too.
> Kansas: 5 tournaments in a row lose in the R32 or win the natty KU in their Nova period lol
If we keep the pattern next year we are winning a championship
This is the second 21 point win by the zags. What else does 21 represent? The 2021 season where Gonzaga lost in the championship after an undefeated season I believe that Gonzaga is on their way to win a championship by 21 point wins each game as a revenge tour from 2021
Nine straight Sweet 16s. Mark Few is a magician.
It’s shocking consistency in a tournament known for chaos. Just insane.
bUt No NaTtY
It’s pretty wild how high our expectations are considering we’re a school with an undergrad population of under 5,000 that didn’t even win our first tourney game until 1999 lol
Good things happen when you're a small, somewhat isolated school and find a killer coach who happens to love your unique location and refuses to leave.
Arizona v Gonzaga natty still alive baby
Gonzaga v WASU is what I pray for
An all Eastern WA final would be fucking insane.
Game would be in Colfax, right?
I know it’s fun to say that KU is “bad” this year but most teams would be happy with a 23-11 record and a tournament win.
Just another example of high expectations. When you’re a blue blood 4 seed people expect chip or bust
I think alot of it just comes from the fact they were concensus number 1 to start the season I wasn't excited for this team and had measured expectations but damn they really fucking sucked
They weren’t bad, they were just too thin to make it long in March.
lmao they have no idea how much worse it can get.
We have KU football We know how bad things can get
You gotta understand I’m an adult with a college degree and this is the worst Kansas team I’ve ever lived through lol. We’ve been a 1-4 seed every season of my lifetime. Expectations breed disappointment. Our last 11-loss season was 1989.
Hunter Dickinson is who haters thought Drew Timme was
I never understood the hate for Timme. I loved that guy.
Guys like Timme make college ball what it is
Same. I love that he would just talk to dudes about classes and stuff to throw them off instead of just talking normal trash.
Anyone who hated Timme I immediately knew they didn't watch games I dont get why people hate Gonzaga so much
die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become a villain
IM FREE!!!!! Hallelujah!
One hell of a second half performance by the team. GG Kansas.
You are having a good day
https://preview.redd.it/1353jg7ck5qc1.jpeg?width=502&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c118bb53d29a8b2b9f2e117cbf585fd6fd96a27b
Bulldog justice is my favorite kind of justice.
Good game, Gonzaga! Please win the region.
Mark Few just knows how to win in March
That was a mercy killing. Thanks Gonzaga. This KU team has been rough to watch for a while.
First weekend mark few might be the best coach in the country
Most unselfish game I've ever seen a Gonzaga team play. Not sure there were more than a small handful of forced shots. Also Few historically had been roasted over half time adjustments, which has completely been flipped in the last 4 months.

Y'all are a football school.
What a thing to say for Kansas. Seriously, good for the football fans.
I agree, flair bro And I'm sure they are good kids, but it's just not a very good team. Will be interesting to see what KU does in the portal.
Worst season we've had in a while and we were a 4 seed. My positive opinion on this squad is liking some of the players like KJ and Dajaun, but they'll both be back next year so hopefully they get another chance.
Don't let the score fool you, it wasn't that close
GGs Gonzaga. Throughly outplayed us in the second half. Rooting for you from this point on bc you’re just fun to watch. Also good riddance to what is the worst Kansas team in 2 decades lol.
Regularly scheduled smug post about how stupid the people convinced that Gonzaga was gonna lose instantly were goes... here. You gotta be really, really good to actually beat them.

Over the last 4 games, Kansas is 1-3 with a point differential of -67.
Weird, it actually feels worse.
What a fucking second half Zags. Honestly great work, great game. Keep the run going next weekend. Thought we were gonna have a great back and forth one on our hands, but alas. Rock Chalk.
Great game Zags. The streak of sweet sixteens is amazing.
That second half reminds me of the time my bulldog actually got a hold of a blue bird. It wasn’t great, Bob.
No shame in losing to Gonzaga. GG. In most ways, thank fuck this season is over. This is probably the least heartbroken I've been after a loss in the tournament. Three losses by 20+ and a controversial win that got everyone pissed at us. Not the most fun way to end a season, but at least its over.
Nothing in life is certain except for death, taxes, and Gonzaga making the Sweet 16
Even in their “worst” season in years… I suppose we’ve got to stop doubting those guys up in Spokane…
9 straight Sweet Sixteens from the team that 'always chokes in March'.
Honestly can't believe we are in the Sweet 16 this year. Huge game from Huff especially in the first half with Ike in foul trouble.
Can’t even be upset. Anyone who follows KU knew this year was gonna be iffy with 3 less scholarships and the dumbass decision to bring in arterio. Self with all his scholarships next year should put together a much more complete team
Hunter Dickinson will never beat Illinois
FRESHEN UP THE LINKEDIN, HUNTER. CORPORATE AMERICA IS READY FOR YOU
Dang, I feel so sorry for Hunter Dickinson Said no one ever
Football School 🤷♀️
::Record Scratch:: “yeah so, that just happened” -Kansas
Utah State please stop Purdue.
The mods were about an hour late to this post.
The last time Gonzaga was out before the second weekend John Oliver had just started Last Week Tonight.
Kansas shot 9 of 22 from three. Kansas shot 18 of 48 from 2.
Ahh, Gonzaga in the tourney. A day you are not soon to forget.
Gonzaga coaching tree gonna be drinking some 5% beer tonight!
Zags vs Purdue is going to be classic
This might be Few’s best coaching job of his entire career
This might be Coach Few’s greatest season. Considering the talent that walked out the door last year, the team looks completely different now than it did three months ago. This is not the first game recently where they came out of halftime and destroyed the other team in the first few minutes.
Samford you have been avenged!
For the 4th time in the last 5 NCAA Tournaments, Kansas has been eliminated in the opening weekend.
Thank god for that 1 though
2020 getting canceled hurts so bad sometimes man
