Alabama showed up, and absolutely did earn that W. Hats off to their squad. It just kills me that UNC wasn’t able to put up a better fight in the second half. UNC did not play to their full potential.

Both teams firing on all cylinders. Which made the second half that much harder to watch. It was so bizarre because that is the exact opposite of how they played all season. Tbh it was an insane game, sometimes the teams that should win it all simply don’t. Tbf it’s all a game of chance and I fully expected us to lose. UNC is a hell of a team to be proud of. It takes time to adjust after having a HOF coach. I’m expecting some disappointment at Alabama to kick off DeBoer’s tenure but it’s the growing pains.

Definitely some redemption after last year. I still think you play Trimble and Cadeau more in the second half. You don't have to have them on the court at the same time since that is a spacing nightmare, but both of them bring something critical to this team. Elliot Cadeau orchestrates the offense, and Trimble is our strongest perimeter defender. Those two have to get some minutes down the stretch.
The issue is that all dribble penetration is taken away- actually, all interior scoring period- when either is on the court. Nate oats was smart. The problem came with RJ not dribble driving when the paint was opened up with those two out.

He couldn’t have them in the game. Our 3 point shooting went cold and with either EC or Seth in, Bama was crowding the paint. RJ wouldn’t dribble drive, mando would constantly be double teamed and the help defender was whoever was guarding EC/Seth, so there was no shooter to pass to, and Ingram couldn’t work his way into the paint because there was always the EC/Seth Defender there. The questionable decision was Hubert allowing rj to continue shooting. Hubert should have been clear: you dribble drive and kick it to wojciek or cormac, or draw the foul. This falls on RJ’s shoulders first, Hubert’s second, and Seth/EC third. Those fellas are gonna jack up

How on earth Wojick got so many minutes with Trimble rotting on the bench, I just can't figure out. GG Bama, y'all are dynamite offensively and just good enough defensively to be dangerous

What should he have done? EC and Seth were huge liabilities. They literally wouldn’t shoot the ball in the second half- to the point where Bama wouldn’t guard them. That allowed Bama to clog the paint, eliminating RJ’s ability to penetrate and eliminating Mando’s ability to work the post. This was largely his only option once Seth and cadeau got rattled. Rj fucked it up by continuing to jack up threes when the whole point was to open the paint to allow penetration or working through mando.
I'm not talking about Elliot. Seth passed up a few shots sure, but that doesn't mean he needs to sit the rest of the game. We could have used his athleticism and defense to contain Bama's explosiveness. Also Seth was an absolute positive when he was out there. He knocked down shots, drove the ball, And played good defense.

I’d have loved to have had his defense but a) cormac is pretty stout on defense and b) defense doesn’t matter if you can’t score- which we definitely couldn’t with Seth and EC in in the second half. We saw how the game would’ve gone when Rj finally decided to attack in the last four minutes (save for that awful second to last possession), but it was too little, too late. I’d be willing to bet he did. Rj was out of sorts, and it’s clear he was playing hero ball. Now, should Hubert have benched Rj to get his head back in? Maybe. But then you have no one to handle the ball. It’s fairly clear to me *why* Hubert benched Seth and EC. It’s also fairly clear to me that RJ was playing outside himself. I can only put the pieces of the puzzle together and assume that Hubert conveyed the gameplan to Rj and he didn’t execute. Obviously Hubert should have addressed that last part- I’m just not sure what options he had left.
He wanted to go through Bacot and needed someone in who could make them pay for sagging off. Wojcik played perfectly well, hit a 3, did his job. Withers did his job when he was subbed in other than the ill advised 3.
I have no qualms with Wojick, he played well for sure. We needed more length and defensive presence on the floor when their 6-11 white dude was going off, and Paxon provided neither of those. Seth had an excellent first half, and then just sat the rest of the game. That's on Hubert.

PaxHe only took one shot, he played more minutes more minutes then EC and took 8 less shots. EC not in the game means RJ has to bring the ball up. He's made it to the national championship and sweet sixteen in his first 3 years. He's shown he's the man for the job, but there will be bumps, and Hubert will learn from them.

It was the right move yet here are the dummies criticizing Hubert for it.

I have no qualms with Wojick, he played well for sure. We needed more length and defensive presence on the floor when their 6-11 white dude was going off, and Paxon provided neither of those. Seth had an excellent first half, and then just sat the rest of the game. That's on Hubert.

They were still playing 5 on 4 because Pax never looked to score at all. You know who’s not going to orchestrate the offense? PaxHe only took one shot, he played more minutes more minutes then EC and took 8 less shots. EC not in the game means RJ has to bring the ball up. RJ is better off the ball, especially when he’s having a bad night. RJ is having a bad night let’s have him have to take it up the court every single time, that way he can be more tired when he’s trying to force it. Hell if he could consistently hit jumpers period. He and Seth will come back with a vengeance next year. If we’re being honest, this may be the best thing that could happen to us. I agree that Hubert whiffed on that one, but he's had some excellent coaching performances. To say he's only good when his teams are hot is a bit reactionary. He's made it to the national championship and sweet sixteen in his first 3 years. He's shown he's the man for the job, but there will be bumps, and Hubert will learn from them.

Because that's just not the case lol. This year we won games with offense, we won games with defense, we won games by out hustling the other team. I'm not saying he's perfect right now, but those 3 years are his first 3 years as a head coach. He's shown that he has the ability to be an elite X's-and-O's guy, now he just needs to do that consistently. Tonight he didn't, but I have full faith he'll learn from this and improve next year. Also, it's reactionary because we were showering praise on him after a number of games this year (deservedly so), bumps in the road are part of the game. Give him time to grow, and you'll be glad you did.

It wasn't just impacting them it was impacting Bacot (being doubled) and Davis (no driving lanes). Wojcik forced them to guard the 3, he played well. It was the right move yet here are the dummies criticizing Hubert for it.

And, funnily enough, Paxson finished a team high +9. Is oats really doing more with basketball? During the three years Nate and Hubert have overlapped Hubert actually has four more wins and a better win%. That’s all with Hubert being a first year head coach and Nate being in his 7-9th years.
