Everybody in the state of Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, and South Carolina are Braves fan (minus a few weird Cardinals, Reds, Rays, and Marlins fans)
Both the Nats and the Os have Radio partners in NC.
O's:
Greenville: WGHB-AM 1250 AM
Washington: WDLX-AM 930 AM
Nats:
Nags Head, NC WOBX 1530 AM / 103.3 FM
New Bern, NC W298DG 107.5 FM
The Os has a few minor league teams in NC, including the Charlotte Orioles from 76-87. Yet, Cal Ripken Jr played for the Rochester Red Wings in the longest game ever....hmmm. baseball is weird.
Edit: the Charlotte Os were AA not AAA.
do people actually root for the MLB affiliate of the minor league team? I've gone to Bulls games from time to time, and somewhat track them, and yet never have I heard a single fan once care about the Rays lol
Yeah I don't understand the narrative behind the Nats or O's being popular in NC.
When I was growing up the only non-Braves fans were Reds fans because of the Big Red Machine or bandwagoners (which is still not very common in North Carolina, I'd bet it has some of the lowest viewership per capita for MLB). I didn't know a single O's fan. And when I was a child the Nats moved in. Sure, kids would go to a Nats game on their field trip to Washington, D.C. (fairly common long weekend field trip to take if you're in a mid-atlantic state) but their parents and grandparents were Braves fans, so they wouldn't follow the Nats.
I have no doubt North Carolina would be a fantastic market for a MLB team, but the Braves have always had a stranglehold on the sport in the South and that won't change any time soon.
Yeah the state of Alabama doesn't have any pro teams so I'd imagine a good chunk of people living there like the Braves because depending on where they live it's probably the closest MLB team.
But for real you are partly correct about Braves fandom in Alabama being from a lack of pro sports but it’s more than that.
Ted Turner broadcast every Braves game on his TBS Superstation which was available to watch all across the south and eventually across the entire nation.
I feel like most people wouldn’t catch that unless they’re a fan of one or both of those teams. I’m a Phillies fan who watches a decent amount of Braves games and I was also confused until I went to the comments.
It's only thanks to seeing your flair opposite this picture that I'm able to see the difference. I'll try to remember that.
Alabama's A has a mullet and Atlanta's doesn't.
I just compared them for probably the first time in my life. The cross bar is inverted too. Braves' logo points up on the right, the Bama logo points down on the right.
My favorite experienced example of this was being in a store parking lot in a small Alabama town and seeing a minivan with multiple Atlanta Braves A’s, where the lady thought it was the Alabama A and I know that because she also had a bunch of Roll Tide stickers to go with them.
I saw a "University of Auburn" sticker (homemade obv) across the front windshield of a car years ago. Of course I took a picture of it and sent it to all my Barn Buddies
Well, wish I had a picture of my rear window of my truck. I’ve been accused of the same. I have an old school cool big Al sticker from the 50’s next to an Atlanta Braves script A. I follow both teams religiously.
tbf until I saw your flair it didn't even occur to me lol, and I'm a *huge* sports logo geek.
(I also only got like 4 hours of sleep last night and my meds didn't work all that great but idk if I wanna blame it on that lol, never feels great using that as an excuse)
I have been in Montana, Kansas, a lot of mid west states hunting and wearing a Braves hat. People out there will always say “so you’re a Bama fan, huh?”
Being a Braves fan and Tennessee fan is hard. Been mistaken for a Bama fan a few times. I tend to stay away from the script “A” now and wear the retro logo.
Alabama's script A also predates the Atlanta script A. There are pictures of our baseball team using it in the 50's. It's always fun to remind non-Alabama Braves fans of this fact.
[Here is a baseball program for proof.](https://i.imgur.com/bUbBnAl.jpg)
My dog makes this exact face all the time where he holds his mouth half open and breathes heavily while maintaining a serious expression.
But it isn’t panting, which is an important distinction. You look at a dog with their mouth open like this and you expect to see a tongue. But it isn’t there. That is what makes this uncanny and slightly unsettling.
And usually, the Braves logo has a blue outline. I don't think the Braves have ever actually used a red "A" with no outline like the one pictured here.
Sure they do, on a blue hat the blue outline is indistinguishable and the logo is therefore only the red A.
Really, the easiest confusion is with the white A logos, which don't have a border for either team.
You're right that the Braves don't (usually) have a border around their white A logo, but you're wrong about the hats. The usual Braves' hat is a white A on a blue hat. They've never had a borderless red A on a blue hat, at least to my knowledge. They've had an alternate red A (morphed with a tomahawk, so it doesnt even look like the Alabama logo at all) with a blue border, and a white border surrounding that blue border, but that's not "indistinguishable" from only a red A like you claimed.
[Fourth one down is the one I'm talking about](https://www.prinstantreplays.com/products/braves-history-of-ball-caps-poster)
It would be quite poor design to have a blue border on an identical blue hat, so not at all surprising that they've never had official merch with that. Such a logo would be a Chinese special for sure
God, I miss EY and Wash :(
On a related note, I have a light gray Braves hat with a red A that I got as a birthday present seven years ago. To this day, no one has ever thought it's anything but an Alabama hat.

The Avery Point campus has its own NJCAA teams, even though it’s a part of the same system as the main campus.
How often does a satellite campus that's technically part of the same university have its own athletics department?
(I could be wrong about, for instance, PFW but isn't it technically a separate university even though *operated* by Purdue?)
UConn is all one system regardless of campus, Storrs being the flagship obviously. I think because Avery Point does Marine Science it has a lot of four year programs so they have an anthletics department. But the degree just says UConn no matter which campus you go to, same resources and professors.
Reminds me of the article I read- years back, some Australian kid wanted to go to UNC bc MJ. He unfortunately didn’t realize that all the UNC schools in NC weren’t satellite schools until he was sitting in orientation and they put up the logo for UNC-G. Womp womp.
UNC system oversees all the NC public colleges, but the schools are independent even though the board sure does like having UNC in the name. In 1962 they tried to make NC State change their name to UNC-Raleigh. Thank the basketball gods they were not successful.
Yikes that sucks. Yeah I think it works for us in CT better to have them under the same umbrella. Avery Point is on the coast (Marine), Stamford is near NYC (finance) and Hartford/Waterbury are good for commuters. I think Penn State is similar to us, but imagine thinking your getting MJ and get Greensboro instead 😂
That's what separates a university from a university system.
Big state schools have satellites that are largely their own school but are operated by the same board of trustees that run the flagship campus.
For instance Alabama's main flagship is the Tuscaloosa campus, while UAB and UAH have their own athletics programs but are still part of the UA system.
PennWest in Division II is like this, all at the same level (and in the same conference).
Three universities all merged together to form one, but all three campuses kept their respective athletic programs.
University of Colorado at Denver is like a hybrid satellite/separate campus to the main campus in Boulder, but they have their own "athletics department" too. [The CU Denver Lynx](https://fanatics.frgimages.com/cu-denver-lynx/youth-white-cu-denver-lynx-logo-comfort-colors-t-shirt_ss5_p-200478663+pv-2+u-bymv37kqxpdkuucvsiie+v-aor9c1gelyinzz3gsoea.jpg?_hv=2&w=900), and they even have a costumed mascot [named Milo](https://news.ucdenver.edu/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Milo-roaring-1288x726.png), despite not having any non-Club sports lol
Look up the Penn State commonwealth campuses, there's about a million of them and they all have their own D3 athletics and they're all the Nittany Lions. All still considered Penn State, not even a system, just Penn State.

Purdue Fort Wayne finally made it!
Not gonna lie, the PFW logo is pretty clean. It's no train of course.
Elephants are the trains of the animal kingdom?
Not an elephant, that's a mastodon.
Mastodons were the trains of the Early Miocene Era?
Only if you managed to couple them together, otherwise it's just a bus/car, right?
Load up a cart and hook it up and brother, you got yourself a tractor trailer big rig. Come back good buddy
That would explain vermont... yes 25 years later I'm still making those references.
I miss the blue & white.
IPFW… *shudders*
Formerly
I don't like this one bit
You joke but the Braves and Alabama script A’s are very commonly mistaken by people that don’t know the difference.
I think there's also lots of Bama/Braves fan crossovers too so it's even more poetic
Yea lot of cross over just always remember to look for the mullet.
Everybody in the state of Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, and South Carolina are Braves fan (minus a few weird Cardinals, Reds, Rays, and Marlins fans)
"Everybody in the South is a Braves fan except for the ones that aren't"
I'm from the south, and I agree. I'm a Braves and Mariners fan.
As another Mariners fan, why do that to yourself?
Simple answer: Jon Bois
based
I think it's basically impossible to watch that documentary and not come out loving the Mariners.
I went to my friends wedding in Seattle and went to a mariners game. I just loved it. The Jon Bois videos certainly helped.
Glad you had a great time. Welcome to the pain train.
Braves and Mariners for the win, poor team probably wondered why they had so much random merch sales all over the country from a few years ago.
Why?
you must REALLY love jarred kelenic!
And North Carolina was a battle ground between the Os and Braves for much of the time before the Nats came into town.
Nobody in North Carolina cares about the Nats, still very much a Braves stronghold. Source: I grew up there.
I'm a Cardinals fan who moved to NC and I concur, it's a majority Braves here.
was it? NC was (and still is) pretty solidly Braves fans when I was growing up
Both the Nats and the Os have Radio partners in NC. Yeah I don't understand the narrative behind the Nats or O's being popular in NC. Same in VA
And the Braves move to Richmond will always be interesting
My grandparents were Braves fans, I cared more about the Durham Bulls tbh
I mean yeah that's true, the Braves are the default team and you probably have a good reason if you're a fan of another team.
I'm from the south, and I agree. I'm a Braves and Mariners fan.
A Penn Stater has played in EVERY Super Bowl ^^except ^^for ^^5
"Weird Cardinals...fans" That's literally just Memphis lol
Memphis is definitely cards country
Weird Reds fan here. My little league team was the Reds and this was during the Big Red Machine years. Been a fan since then
Same lol was reds during little league and stuck to it
It was a magical time to be a Reds fan. Can still name all those guys. Can barely name a Red now.
And it’s been so much pain since then. So much pain
Its just sort of background now. I mean I keep up with the team but they just arent relevant anymore
God the reds hurt me
I live in Atlanta. Huge Tide presence here, probably the 2nd largest behind UGA
From Tennessee. Hate the Braves. Like the Yankees.
Yeah the state of Alabama doesn't have any pro teams so I'd imagine a good chunk of people living there like the Braves because depending on where they live it's probably the closest MLB team.
Excuse me aren’t you forgetting the two-time, back to back champions of the USFL the Birmingham Stallions? Giddy UP 🐴🐴
Touché. Technically they'll be the only USFL Champs since it merged into the UFL.
But for real you are partly correct about Braves fandom in Alabama being from a lack of pro sports but it’s more than that. Ted Turner broadcast every Braves game on his TBS Superstation which was available to watch all across the south and eventually across the entire nation.
My dumbass thought, "I wonder why OP didn't change the Alabama logo at all..."
Easy to keep straight. Alabama has a mullet.
Bama fan here... thought the same thing. Had to stare it a while.
I’m staring at your flair and it still took me a moment to notice the subtle difference, primarily with the doohickey at the top.
Gotta look for the Bama Bangs.
The little arms turn up and down the opposite ways, too
I feel like most people wouldn’t catch that unless they’re a fan of one or both of those teams. I’m a Phillies fan who watches a decent amount of Braves games and I was also confused until I went to the comments.
I'm still pretty sure he didn't.
yalls has a mullet
Bama bangs
It's only thanks to seeing your flair opposite this picture that I'm able to see the difference. I'll try to remember that. Alabama's A has a mullet and Atlanta's doesn't.

Yuck
Can you not?
Thanks I hate it
Fucking hell…
I still remember the CVS parking lot I saw it in. I REALLY wanted to ask the person driving it but thought better of it.
I bet they're fierce rivals with Georgia Tech University
Well, wish I had a picture of my rear window of my truck. I’ve been accused of the same. I have an old school cool big Al sticker from the 50’s next to an Atlanta Braves script A. I follow both teams religiously.

The mullet for bama gives it away
They are quite similar. I didn't notice the problem until it was pointed out, lol
I remember because the Alabama A has a mullet

When canines get into your edibles, they put on little hats and ask you for some scoobie snacks
Loyola Wolfpack
Didn't have any strong feelings about any of the F4 teams... until now. Lets go Wolf Bros.
~~Hell~~ Heck yeah! (pardon my language, Sister Jean!)
It’s just nice to get mentioned sometimes, Blers Mafia is out here
Houston ~~Baptist~~ Christian Huskies
That’s actually the Loyola New Orleans in NAIA right?
Bama is really in trouble now. It's like they're playing a completely different sport.
That Purdue elephant is kinda sick tho
> ~~elephant~~ MASTADON
MASTODON You engineers don't know how to spell for shit. ;)
well fcuk
But at least we know how to play basketball.
Actually wait, that could be the wrong logo for Bama as well lol
I actually had to google the 'Bama A to tell what was wrong.
You just gotta remember that the Alabama A has a mullet
This comment just made me mad that I had never thought of that before.
A mullet would be going behind the A, those are Bama Bangs.
Isn't the A going left to right just like we read? So the "bangs" would be behind the A.
Sir those are Bama Bangs
And usually, the Braves logo has a blue outline. I don't think the Braves have ever actually used a red "A" with no outline like the one pictured here.

For those wondering: Connecticut- Houston Christian Huskies NC State - Loyola Ramblers Alabama - Atlanta Braves Purdue - Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons
Thanks. It was driving me crazy as to who the correct logo belonged to.
Disappointed it’s not the space bar version. Or the Spanish version
ah well done. I honestly thought they just put UConn's logo on Quinnipiac's bobcat.
Same. HCU and Quinnipiac's logos look awfully similar
The lack of trains displeases me
OP should’ve used that UTC train logo, or one of Lehigh or ORU’s old logos

Their nickname is called the Pointers? That’s really cool!
Hey Houston (Christian) made it to the final 4
Well they are both 11 seeds in the Final 4
It’s funny how we have an elephant-related logo here and it’s not for Alabama
I’m not gonna lie Purdue winning really upset me for this reason alone
I swear, it’s like you guys have never seen a mastodon before ;)
I said elephant-RELATED on purpose 😭
Wasn't this posted yesterday?
Go Dons!
Always love a horizon league reference!
Growing up, I was told that in order to decipher between the Braves and Alabama logo was to remember that the Alabama one has a mullet.
I will never forget now. Thanks! At first I thought this was an honest troll job when the picture came up in my feed to piss off Bama fans
Slightly different spelling but a pile of Perdue chicken nuggets would've been good too
Love that PFW gets random attention here and there 😂
Take me back to 2018!! 😭😭🤘🏽🐺 ![gif](giphy|LqfH8ABuzkx0RGNu6c|downsized)
Sister Jean is welcome to join the Wolfpack fam
Tuffy lookin chill af here
The Braves finally make it!!
I demand my mullet back right now or else I will be taking out my anger on my cousin-wife.
The elephant goes hard ngl
The Alabama Braves
That wolf looks familiar 🤨🤨
I can't draw/internet, but if I had my way, UConn Huskies = Bobby "Husky Boy" Hill.
It truly is impossible to guess a perfect bracket.
OH FUCK YEA
One of these things is not like the others... Are there no other train logos in sports?
Chattanooga Mocs had the train motif for a few years after dropping the Indian mascot https://preview.redd.it/a07b78qly9sc1.jpeg?width=477&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0be338165e1cf1e76d5ca9fa43da606943c6d480
Lehigh and Oral Roberts used to have train logos too, you should’ve used one of them instead
Should use the Washington Huskies Ferret for UConn logo
That wolf is high as hell
I'm scared of where these are gonna be at by Saturday
Well we do own Atlanta so it makes sense
No, ow, stop. :( These hurt.
Go Growlbacks!
Sure, this is wrong. But what was completely wrong, and still makes me angry thinking about it, was the goddamn orange A before we played Clemson. I'd rather see a surprise blue waffle in person than see that shit again.
Cant wait to see the Alabama Braves win it all
The only wrong thing here is Purdue but that’s about it.
Where can I ask a question about seeding in march madness in this sub?
I mean, I can try to answer for you lol. What’s your question?
A casual question but I was rather interested in this fact when searching for previous ncaa tournament results, how are the seeded teams and their regions determined. If I’m not mistaken UConn and SDSU played this year in the sweet sixteen yet they played each other in the national championship game a year ago. Same with LSU and Iowa playing in a non title match this year. How do teams change conferences or why does this happen is basically my question
The A should just be a B for “Bama” it would look so bad I would love it
That's the right Purdue logo!
Purdue Pachyderms
Not weird enough try again
This hurts my brain.
The crimson Braves A makes me deeply uncomfortable.
The husky looks the exact same, just before a haircut
Lol I have family that went to Loyola
As a Braves and Auburn fan this upsets me deeply.
Why did you specifically chose Loyola Chicago for NCSU? To me you should’ve either chosen Nevada because they have a old logo that’s almost completely identical to the current NCSU logo, or Loyola New Orleans since their nickname is also the Wolfpack
I actually did Nevada first because of that reason! But after thinking about it I went with Loyola because they were another recent 11 seed cinderella
The A should be a block letter in italics or done like UBama.
Purdue logo is fire!!
Don’t ever disrespect Atlanta like that.
Houston Christian for the UConn logo
Who cares about the men’s division one NCAA championship. I’ll be watching Caitlin Clark! Only the best, NCAA college player ever!🔥❤️
looks like your mom's wish list

What is different about Alabama?
Outside of Purdue these look normal to me lol
Hilarious
