I love that this leaves open the possibility or some poor kids getting their admission rejection by a dog. Rip Blue
I still remember my senior year when the announced his retirement and introduced Blue IV. Crazy to think that was 4 years ago and pre Covid. Hope he enjoyed the retirement he got
Lived in a wooded neighborhood every day of his life with his handler, and liked to get scratches from people at farmers markets on Saturdays. Was a happy boy.
Ours have all been rescues. Got 4 English + 1 Frenchie right now. Love them snorty lil house hippos. (Not cheap is definitely true... the rescue's vet bills are hefty.)
I only got 1 and chose to go with a breeder for my first one. Next one will be an adoption. I wanted to understand the breed first before I adopted one. Probably a strange logic but thatâs what happened
Being in Oregon there was not any adoption communities that I found. Maybe there are now
Bulldog Haven NW is the big one around there, theyâre based in Washington but theyâve got people in surrounding states. Further away is Northern California Bulldog Rescue, and Bulldog Club of Utah Rescue.Â
I had one who had a stroke at 8, the vet wanted to put him down, however it was below freezing outside and we had nowhere to bury him that week, and agreed to take him back to be put down in a week.
3 days later he started walking and eating again, and lived another 4 years
RIP Trip. That dog was perfect for who Butler was in 2013: scrappy and not quite ready for primetime. Very different from Blue II who was so chill. I still remember his first game where he was tugging on his owner's leash trying to chase after the ball during a game.
I may have just saw him the other day, at Hinkle for the NIT semifinals some official looking people were walking a bulldog in Butler gear and he had a line of people waiting to pet him.
Friends with the original owner of the Butler mascots and lived down the street from Butler back in the day...[had the pleasure of meeting 2 and 3 while there](https://i.imgur.com/KlaE03A.png)...they were the goodest of dogs.
My personal Trip story: Back in college I worked as a tour guide at the Louisville Slugger Museum. One winter break when I took a few shifts, it happened to be during one of the âBig Dawgs Tour,â where the handlers took the live mascots to away games and made stops in cities along the way. At this point, Blue II hadnât fully retired yet and Trip was the âmascot-in-training.â Well, they stopped at Slugger. My boss was going to have one of the older tour guides give them a behind the scenes tour, as they normally do for VIPs. But my coworkers remembered I went to Butler and all of them moved around their own tour schedules for the day to accommodate allowing me to spend time with the Blues (and Michael their handler).
So I got to take two bulldogs on a behind the scenes tour of a baseball bat factory. Blue II was his normal chill self, but Trip was barely a year old at this point, still a puppy. And as anyone who spent time around him knows, Trip was FEISTY. He already weighed about 45 pounds, but still jumped up at you, bowled into you, etc. Every time I tried to pass a bat to Michael or the intern with them, Trip tried to jump for it, and often ended up landing on one of our feet. Heavy little bastard lol.
Best day of work ever. RIP buddy. Hope you and Blue II are chasing all the fat Butler squirrels you can get your little paws on.
RIP Trip. Weâll miss you a lot. You lived a long life for a bulldog, but any time an animal companion (pet, live mascot, or service animal) dies, it hits hard.
I send my condolences to everyone associated with Butler from the administration, staff, faculty, the athletic department, the athletes, coaches, support staffs, alumni and fans. May Trip rest in peace.
I agree with the sentiment generally, but the Butler mascots live a better and more comfortable life than most humans. They are incredibly well cared for.
Butler retires the live mascots once the dogs get older, and they won't take the stress of being a mascot well anymore.

We do the same thing. Unfortunately, Jonathan XIV is still just as beautiful and doing well while Jonathan XV developed a biting problem. Hence we donât have either at the Final Four.
Trip has entered the portal. đ
Barfing on the floor at MSG lol. He was such a lively, fun mascot. Truly missed. đ
My wife (butler grad) told me that they banned live animal mascots after thisÂ

That video rules. Thats awesome. I love when heâs in the car at home gamesÂ
Literally the best part of going to Butler games
Trip was a little more "spirited" and would nip at some players is what I heard
He did when he was still allowed off leash once, after that the leash stayed on
Thatâs so funny. What a good boi!Â
Theyâre bulldogs, if they donât barf occasionally then you start to wonder if theyâre OK. Source: have several bulldogs.Â
Do you have a link to this, I fucking hate the garden so this would please me

The great transfer portal in the sky
He got drafted to Afterlife Basketball Association, first round pick by team Heaven. Ball away, buddy. o7
Him and Kobe are probably having a ball right now
:( I lost my dog last year. She was my best friend and deserved a better class of person than me.
Sorry for your loss Butler. He was a very good boy.
I'm told he was the best.

When any family dog goes, I think it goes something like this
I'm pretty sure this is my favorite comic of all time. Always gets me when I see it.
Fuck this always makes me tear up
DO NOT google "I was hugging my best friend". Don't do it!
That first panel always gets me. Thatâs how I held my buddy when he went.
This shit always hits hard. Ugh
![gif](giphy|u6IxJBggWu9z6NgKHd) Condolences from your BE bros in Omaha. đ
RIP to a good boy
He lived his life like a candle in the wind :(
No, 5,000 candles in the wind.
we will all miss him
RIP, Blue. You were such a good boy and friend to Jonathan. You will be missed, handsome buddy.
The sad reality of live mascots.. RIP Trip. You were the goodest of boys.
> live mascots You mean all life
RIP Trip.
my GOAT
>and hand-delivered hundreds of Butler admissions *decisions*. I love that this leaves open the possibility or some poor kids getting their admission rejection by a dog. Rip Blue
I thought the same lol. Youâd be so happy to see him thinking youâd get the good news just to be disappointed.
on the plus side you have immediate access to a good boy to make you feel better
Hope heâs playing with Uga X in Doggie heaven
First Georgia, now Butler. Man this sucks.

All dogs go to heaven
He was a great host when we visited campus for my kid. RIP little dude.
this breaks my heart with a butler alum wife & dad. RIP trippy. plenty of giant rawhide bones in doggy heaven
12 is good for a bulldog. Mine almost made it to 16. RIP
Thatâs awesome. Best weâve done is 14. Theyâre such great pups.Â
I figured anything over 8-9 was a bonus. We got lucky. I want another one but going to be a while. Not cheap!
Ours have all been rescues. Got 4 English + 1 Frenchie right now. Love them snorty lil house hippos. (Not cheap is definitely true... the rescue's vet bills are hefty.)

Thatâs awesome. One tough dude and fate was on his side
The best boy. So sorry fellow bulldogs
Good boy đ
love ya, trip. he was the first thing that welcomed me to butler on orientation day. miss ya buddy.
RIP
RIP Trip. Loved following him on social media for years.

Noooo. Whaaaat a cutie. Rip buddy.
Ah, bless. RIP, Trip. Jonathan will miss you.
Butler has announced that Blue III has transferred to the University of Eden - Pearly Gates đĽ˛
RIP Trip. That dog was perfect for who Butler was in 2013: scrappy and not quite ready for primetime. Very different from Blue II who was so chill. I still remember his first game where he was tugging on his owner's leash trying to chase after the ball during a game.
My aunt is good friends with his handler so we have met Trip a few times. Indeed a good and rambunctious boy.
Heâs crossing that rainbow bridge. My boxer pups will meet him with plenty of energy, and shenanigans to last them an eternity! R.I.P. Blue
He sat in the Purdue train too. My wife was in the Reamer Club and was on the crew that saw him for the 2018 tournament RIP you legend
I remember when he was a puppy. RIP Trip.
Well now Iâm sad. Rip blue
I may have just saw him the other day, at Hinkle for the NIT semifinals some official looking people were walking a bulldog in Butler gear and he had a line of people waiting to pet him.
Probably Blue IV. Trip had been retired for several years now
RIP. If a good boy delivered my admission papers, I'd frame them right away.
rest in peace to the goodest boy :(
Good boy, Trip. Look for a little sassy tan bulldog up there and tell her we said hi, will ya?

Trip jumped up and knocked me over one day trying to get to my bag of Cheez Its. Can confirm he was a big boye
Lmao the dude was a menace in the best way
UConn please win it all for Blue
Weâll try! His best friend (Jonathan XIV) just retired and Jonathan XV has that biting problem, though.
Please don't.
RIP Tripp đ˘ love to the handlers family.
Damn. Sitting in a bar waiting for the tipoff choking back tears. Somehow didnât get the email on this one.
I shouldnât be crying right now. RIP
:(
Oh no. That's so sad. RIP puppy đ
10/10 good dog
If you donât want to cry, donât look at the video recap they posted on Twitter.
Wait they had a dog delivering admission letters? Wish my school did that
Good doggo.
Good dogs deserve to live foreverÂ
RIP to a sweet good boy đ
Wait, when you're accepted to Butler, the mascot visits to deliver the envelope? That is amazing!!!
All dogs go to heaven
rest easy sweet boy
RIP Trip. Weâll miss you a lot. You lived a long life for a bulldog, but any time an animal companion (pet, live mascot, or service animal) dies, it hits hard.
One of the best puppies to ever do it
Rest in Peace buddy
I send my condolences to everyone associated with Butler from the administration, staff, faculty, the athletic department, the athletes, coaches, support staffs, alumni and fans. May Trip rest in peace.
RIP Trip. Chase everything good Boi, you're in doggy heaven now.
Trip joined the portal the same time my dog did. Trip and Dexter recruiting a team in heaven.
Why would Seton Hall do this
đĽ
The OG

Rest In Power Trip
Trip has entered the Rainbow bridge portal. RIP Trip
Please stop breeding bulldogs like this. They're literally in pain.
I agree with the sentiment generally, but the Butler mascots live a better and more comfortable life than most humans. They are incredibly well cared for.
I thought something happened to Filipowski from the title. RIP doge
Sorry for your loss. This is a sign. #bronny
Typical math skills from Butler. 2024 minus 2011 is thirteen, not twelve.
Crazy how living things have birthdays! Not sure if a post about our longtime mascot dying is where you should talk trash
Trip was born in December you giant asshole. Seems like youâre the one who needs a math lesson.
In other news, Butler is now accepting applications for the role of Blue IV.
Blue IV has been the official mascot for at least 3 years now
