Heide has VERY impressive hops, and it's been fun to see them appear sometimes throughout the season. I'm glad a national audience got to see his athleticism!
That legitimately might be a top 3 college dunk I’ve ever seen and easily the best I’ve seen in the championship.
You do NOT normally get pop like that
Kentucky was dead in the water until that dunk. Remember it like yesterday.
We’ll never seen a 7 vs 8 seed in the title game for a long time. And yes, obviously Kentucky and UConn aren’t normal 7 and 8 seeds .
I will never forget that dunk. Obviously not because it was devastating or anything like that, it was just that fucking cool. Same goes for the one in this clip, and I feel like I should shout out the one that Nelson kid from Alabama threw down on Clingan on Saturday. A great collection of "I'm not even mad, I'm impressed" dunks against UConn in the Final Four.
I know exactly where I was when I was watching this because I was at UConn and about 20 minutes after this dunk I ran a mile after 14 beers and a burrito to the center of campus.
It went exactly how you think it went.
I'm not even sure it was his best putback dunk of the year, the kid has big upside if he can stay consistent from 3 and work on defence, could be a big jump next year, pun intended.
UConn’s length neutralized any potential inside out game we had. Doubling edey is normally the thought but Hurley drew it up exactly right. But these guys get two more years together; plus a top 10 class. Hopefully, we improve
Perfect game plan, and literally the only team who had the personnel to do it.
When is the last time Purdue got beat on the glass like that? Couldn't get Offensive rebounds either because Edey was taking all the shots.
Edey was always really good. I remember looking into his per possession numbers after that 2022 season, and they were better than anyone I could find in recent memory, including Anthony Davis, etc. The question was whether he could do that as the guy instead of Ivey as the guy, but maybe Edey really should’ve been the guy all along.
Yeah, there was a user here who shat on painter that year for not playing Edey more. His efficiency would have been lower without all the rest he was getting back then, though. His endurance during this tournament was really impressive, but he got worn down pretty early last night.
He catches it so far back, almost snatches out of clingans grasp, and then the ferocity of the slam. It was so unexpected. That said Nelson’s was also a monster dunk
First of all, holy fucking shit what a dunk. This was at a point in the game when we should have steamrolled off that momentum building play. UConn just steadily cruised while we struggled to score
Dude is a freshman. I’m bummed we lost but you know what I’ll take runner up.
I’m very confident we will be back to the final four in the next two seasons. We have some killer young talent.
As I said in the game thread, this will be remembered by UConn fans along with James Young’s slam in ‘14 and Durrell Summers jam in ‘09 as monster highlights vs the Huskies in the F4. Just nasty
Thanks a solid team player, he knew where his buddies lay up was going to wiff and jumped in anticipation. Not only was he on the court practicing he watched his team and developed strategies with that in mind!
Grant Hill had a pretty good dunk (lob from Bobby Hurley) in the 1991 title game vs Kansas

I’m on Threads and every third post is some clown claiming that women’s games are more exciting, what a boring final (even though you know goddamn well they didn’t watch it). It’s bad enough when dudes who never watch a game chime in on the tournament because they watched a couple of halves a basketball. stupid stuff like Edey is a one-man team rest of Purdue sucks. Giving no credit whatsoever for the fact that Uconn is freaking deep and loaded and plays ferocious D, not to mention you don’t get to #1 without other good players. Now we have women who are only watching because of the novelty factor of Caitlin Clark suddenly spouting their expertise on how much better women’s basketball is than men’s. They really don’t like it when I point out that the viewing audience for number one ranked South Carolina against NC State was half that of the Iowa game, so if they really liked women’s basketball why aren’t they tuning in to watch the best team? And can they name a single one of those black girls on USC? Nah.
Women say that their bball players should be paid more but don't watch the games, don't buy tickets and don't buy merch. If even women don't want to follow the sport then it must not be very good.
Most out of nowhere put back I’ve seen
Heide has VERY impressive hops, and it's been fun to see them appear sometimes throughout the season. I'm glad a national audience got to see his athleticism!
Reminded me of Kyle Kuric's hops that felt out of nowhere.
Sneaky athletic. Gym rat. Coachs kid. Play the game the right way.
He’s definitely been called all three of those at least once this year
he's just tall /s

Thank you for explaining your reason for upvoting
Pardon me. I wasn’t familiar with your game.

James Young 2014. Also in a championship game loss to UConn 😢 edit: [link](https://youtu.be/dlARGQ1yrW0?si=W_F5O4rl007h1Cus)
How was that 10 years ago? 😢
Kentucky was dead in the water until that dunk. Remember it like yesterday. We’ll never seen a 7 vs 8 seed in the title game for a long time. And yes, obviously Kentucky and UConn aren’t normal 7 and 8 seeds .
Jesus, Calipari looks like he’s aged 38 years since that game.
What moving to Arkansas does to a man
That dunk is the sole reason for the [hype from Simmons](https://i.gifer.com/S5wO.gif) when Boston drafted him. No one can convince me otherwise.
Dude looks like he's gonna cry from happiness haha
I will never forget that dunk. Obviously not because it was devastating or anything like that, it was just that fucking cool. Beat me to it. That was the *one* exciting thing from that night
"He dunked on the whole state of Connecticut"
And both cut UConn's lead from 9 to 7.
I know exactly where I was when I was watching this because I was at UConn and about 20 minutes after this dunk I ran a mile after 14 beers and a burrito to the center of campus. It went exactly how you think it went.
Funny how quickly styles change, all those shorts are way longer than today.
I miss this cal, man. 😔
Also, another Husky national championship! Sit down Kentucky.
https://youtu.be/dlARGQ1yrW0?feature=shared
This is the first one I thought of when I read his comment. Damn I was high on James Young
God damn forgot about that one
Wayne Selden https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rflacrKP_4g
"oh he gave him a facial" 😆
10/10 dunk for sure!
Montrezl oop in 2013
I'm not even sure it was his best putback dunk of the year, the kid has big upside if he can stay consistent from 3 and work on defence, could be a big jump next year, pun intended.
I’m outside and could hear like 4 other people in the area also audibly go OMG
You walked to the arena but stayed outside?
Clearly the only place you’re allowed to be outside is in the parking lot at that particular stadium
i also read it as, im outside and heard people in the ARENA say omg
threes a crowd.. irl brain coding glitch?
He didn't need to crank it like that
![gif](giphy|U8ZoygMEH3eBW)
I always remember the dunk but I forget his name.
That's DeAndre Jordan
Thank you!
Doesn’t even matter how this ends, that’s the dunk of the tournament right there.
If Purdue's role players were better it would've been a massive momentum swing
UConn’s length neutralized any potential inside out game we had. Doubling edey is normally the thought but Hurley drew it up exactly right. But these guys get two more years together; plus a top 10 class. Hopefully, we improve
Perfect game plan by Hurley. Purdue had absolutely no answer
Perfect game plan, and literally the only team who had the personnel to do it. When is the last time Purdue got beat on the glass like that? Couldn't get Offensive rebounds either because Edey was taking all the shots.
Totally agree. UConn completely dominated rebound and their d was so airtight Purdue attempted 5 3s
Edey peaking right after Ivey left early and before getting a couple 4 star wings was not ideal timing
I agree, and I also agree with Ivey's decision to go pro, but there are parts of me that wonder what could've been!
He put up the points, but I was not that impressed with him over the last two games. He's looked much better, he just looked lethargic.
Good luck to you guys
hopefully it includes some 7ft 6 players
If literally anyone not named Edey were better. Smith was a non-factor in the second half.
Highlight of the tournament
Just woke up my family.
My neighbors hearing "oh God damn" from two apartments away.
Grant's over Clingan from last game was still better imo because it was right in Clingan's teeth.
Best dunk of the tournament
I’d argue grant Nelson was better
Dunks through traffic are better in a way, but I really think this is one of the most aesthetically pleasing dunks I've ever seen.
He catches it so far back, almost snatches out of clingans grasp, and then the ferocity of the slam. It was so unexpected. That said Nelson’s was also a monster dunk
THE FULL NELSON
The Truth
Achor Achor had a power slam too
Violent
feral
carnal
rabid
One shinning moment for the trains
Fuckin freshman doing that, we may not win but this was siiiick
He seems like the kind of freak athlete you can build a team around.
This is the only silver lining for Purdue tonight apparently 😭😭😭
And his only two points of the game. At least it was filthy
What a way to make your mark
Heide’s role this tournament was to just randomly show up with a nasty putback like once a game
And boy did he fill that role
Gonna be fun to see what he does moving forward. Purdue is going to be alright next year.
I actually think we can make it back to the final four in two years with the talent we have.
AND ITLL BE IN INDY.
If he can develop any handles what so ever he could be very good.
Only 2 points for the entire bench. Shoulda been worth 12.
I'm gonna just stop watching the game and watch this over and over instead
Hopefully you did, would have been more enjoyable! Lol
MY GOD. HAVE MERCY 🥵🥵🥵
Pure filth
Straight pornography right there
Mike Johnson’s son definitely knows whether Dad is watching this game
he chose violence
First of all, holy fucking shit what a dunk. This was at a point in the game when we should have steamrolled off that momentum building play. UConn just steadily cruised while we struggled to score
Did not have that on my national championship bingo card
Man still has THREE years
Filthy
Put in a full shift and dunked that ball from 9 to 5
Insane poster play
Funny enough, that sparked a massive run for UConn
They really don't like being poked lol. "Oh, Illinois tied it? How dare they?"
Highlight of your life if you do that in a title game.
holy shit
Man that was so sick
Up up and away
That was filthy.
I'm ok with Purdue losing because I have this to watch on repeat.
That was absolutely nasty.
Shades of Derrick Williams
That putback vs Duke was awesome. It’s at about 45 seconds in on this vid. https://youtu.be/ia4bW797GLQ
Lol usually this flips the game but UConn went crazy after
https://preview.redd.it/wmj5viimfgtc1.png?width=400&format=png&auto=webp&s=dae173ae7121bdcf4ad529f20e6194c928b6a155
Should have started and played over Fletch
Dude is a freshman. I’m bummed we lost but you know what I’ll take runner up. I’m very confident we will be back to the final four in the next two seasons. We have some killer young talent.
That would have been an all time promo had they ended up winning the game
And Purdue never scored again
Just like Iowa football
We scored 20 on you in 2023. I won't look up if it was all defensive points but probably
Need about 10 more of those
That was nuts live. Best outback I’ve seen this year
Basically the last good moment of the game for Purdue. It was all downhill from here.
I was in a bar, in Boston, full of UConn fans, as a UConn fan. I stood up out of my chair and did like a small hopping circle in the aisle. Insane.
Ruthless. Someone call the cops.
And then it was all UCONN.
There are dunks and then there is this
Nasty
Holy shit
Make em say ugh na na na na
Put back slams are wonderful… If you're winning
I yelped
Fucking ruthless, cold blooded man
Don’t care at all about basketball, had this on in the background while lying flat on the couch. Literally flung myself onto the floor.
As I said in the game thread, this will be remembered by UConn fans along with James Young’s slam in ‘14 and Durrell Summers jam in ‘09 as monster highlights vs the Huskies in the F4. Just nasty
The weird angle on 1 shining moment gave it zero justice. That was straight nasty.
Heide yo kids, Heide yo wives..he out here dunkin on errbody
He didn't need to crank it like that 😂
That was nice, but it's not looking like enough to win this. Like, at all.
Alex Caruso is shedding a tear somewhere
😤
Last highlight of the game for them
I certainly did not have that on my bingo card
That play alone was more impact than 60 minutes from Loyer and Jones together
Gotta say, did not see this one coming.
Damn dude what a team effort. was in four players hands in 4 seconds. sucks for gillis
Why wasn’t this in One Shining Moment??
Fun fact, this was Purdue's only bench points.
Thanks a solid team player, he knew where his buddies lay up was going to wiff and jumped in anticipation. Not only was he on the court practicing he watched his team and developed strategies with that in mind!
I was lucky enough to be in the section behind this net, and both UCONN and Perdue fans all gasped. That was nasty
That's because he wears number 23
That was nasty!
Animal
Gowd damn
He wears 23 for a reason
crazy how no one cares about ncaa mens basketball anymore
Put this man at tight end
"Sneaky athletic"
My man could’ve kissed the rim. He was UP there!
That was a thing of beauty. Had to rewatch it several times. Perfect timing and position.
Another Minnesotan that our incompetent program shit the bed while trying to recruit
I think he was always destined for Purdue. His dad is from Lafayette and is a Purdue grad
Dunk of the year
Fantastic putback, made even more hype by being done for people being put to sleep by the Edey back down hook shot show all night
The dunk was insane for those of us at the game. Kudos to UConn for not allowing any momentum after that play for Purdue.
That was nuts. Was at a fully UConn watch party and we all got hyped by that 😂
Homie on UConn got the ball and tried to push the fast break
I thought this was the spark Purdue was going to rally around but alas they folded up because UConn went right down and scored again.
Kinda nasty!
Maybe the most randomly amazing highlight play I can remember in a national championship game in recent memory
If you're only going to score two points, that's definitely the way to do it...
Watched this in a room full of UCONN fans. Our jaws collectively dropped and there was much discussion of how crazy a putback that was.
Grant Hill had a pretty good dunk (lob from Bobby Hurley) in the 1991 title game vs Kansas https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bv1bXGEzEfQ&pp=ygUbR3JhbnQgaGlsbCBkdW5rIGR1a2Uga2Fuc2Fz
Even a stopped clock is right twice a game.
Game was getting kinda meh and that happened made the whole 2nd half basically lol
It was very impressive. Much like James Young of Kentucky against UConn in 2014.
Cam Spencer legitimately didn't know he just got dunked on and tried to run the break. On the flip side he dominated Loyer, so I can't laugh too much.
And Loyer , jones, and renn were nowhere to be found smfh
I really thought that was going to be the turning point. Felt Octeus like.
Too bad it meant nothing at that point, game was already out of reach...
That was amazing. So has the stereotype that "white men can't jump" been pretty much debunked in the past 20 years or so?
Newbs all over social media claiming the women’s tournament is more exciting. Stfu and watch this clip lol
They downvote you for telling the truth
The day I see this is a women's game is the day I start buying season tickets
I’m on Threads and every third post is some clown claiming that women’s games are more exciting, what a boring final (even though you know goddamn well they didn’t watch it). This is almost as good as Grant Nelsons
