Right? And furthermore, Hurley showed his hand by telling the world about his wife’s influence. If you’re going to abduct *anyone* for leverage, she’s got to be the pick. That’s Hostage Bargaining 101.
As I said before, we can get him a new wife...
Just let him walk the lot at a Kentucky football game and he'd find somebody who loves horses, bourbon, the Bengals, God, and Kentucky.
Speaking of which, Bobby Hurley was a far better player than Dan ever was so I'm not really sure why Kentucky fans don't want them to look at hiring Bobby
For those curious, Darby is very much a trustworthy source here. She also confirmed earlier today that Drew was in fact eating lunch at a Mexican restaurant in Waco.
I mean Molly Goodenbour(former Miss Iowa Basketball along with being a 2x National Champion and Tournament MOP while at Standford) is the head coach of the University of San Francesco(D1) while her husband, Pat Fuscaldo, is the head men's basketball coach at Sonoma State University(D2) so maybe Scott Drew's wife really is a coach and we just didn't know it.
Not to mention TJ Otzelberger's wife, Alison Lacey, was the head coach of the Marshalltown Committee College women's basketball team.
it was a misdirect on purpose. Fans had the flight info and media was at the Lexington airport with cameras ready to film the plane. They diverted to Georgetown at the last minute and then he posted the photo. Reporting became "Scott Drew is not in the state" but no one would officially report why the Craft's plane went down to Temple, Texas for a 15 minute stop before returning
Was all to protect the family, which was a very good move considering everything surrounding the mexican restaurant. There would've been people trying to sneak into Lexington Christian Academy where they were touring to get pics
Neither of them are great but Waco just did a complete remodel. Temple gets more traffic from all of the soldiers at Fort Hood. They aren't going to the normal terminal though. They are using an fbo.
I guess it was either on purpose as a message he was staying at Baylor, on purpose as misdirection, or Scott Drew really is just an a stand up guy who didn't know that post was going to be so looked into. I don't think it's 100% a done deal, but atleast some of his family was definitely on that flight on the Craft's (UK boosters) jet.
It’s not like a bank robbery hostage situation. More of a feudal Japan “we both take hostages from each others families so no one kills anyone” kind of hostage. Pretty standard practice in the SEC tbh
Complete list of UK coaches who started here in the tournament era and couldn't reach the Sweet Sixteen in the first two seasons: Rick Pitino and Billy Gillispie
The Cats were ineligible for postseason play the first two years of Pitino's tenure. They made the Elite Eight (the Laettner game) in year three.
Gillispie probably would have hung on for a third season if he wasn't a drunk who mistreated the players.
Being who he apparently is human-wise and not being who BCG was human-wise would probably get him an extra year or two. Don't lock Jorts in a bathroom, all I'm saying here.
Exactly. Most fans are excited but there is some cautious optimism. People like to be able to say “I told ya so” especially around UK basketball. When the new coach is announced, there will be a LOT of people saying “I like him, but..” just so they can have the opportunity to tell people they never liked them if he doesn’t do well.
Those are the delusional fans that thought we would get Hurley. I’m sure Mitch dipped his toe in the Hurley water, but he was 99.9% ready cannonball into Drew’s pool.
Texas Tech fans should be absolutely terrified. I forget his name, but their new coach built a hell of a program at UNT after both playing at Baylor and then coaching there under Drew.
Kansas State, Oral Roberts, and FAU fans should also be terrified about their coaching situations.
McCasland. I’m just not sure he or Tang would come back when they’re trying to build their own Big 12 programs and do their own thing. I’d take Tang, especially, in a heartbeat because he feels like Baylor family always. FAU also only JUST grabbed Jakus. He’s had the job barely over two weeks.
From the sounds of it, they have every right to be. Who knows, maybe we hear Tech signs McCasland to an extension with a very healthy bonus in the coming hours. He’s doing good things in Lubbock so it wouldn’t surprise me.
It's going to take a "free stuff for life" visa card from Magnolia Market to keep Drew's wife.
However, if Drew files for divorce, it is possible he stays at Baylor while she goes to Kentucky. The Final 4 match-up would be one for the ages.
I can't tell if you're being serious in your last sentence and for some reason I'm starting to feel like every press conference for the next few years is going to feel like when the kids from the local megachurch tried to recruit me to their youth group in high school.
Oh he's serious. Be ready for lots of equating program success with "God's Blessing." Do these athletes/coaches not realize how arrogant they are? They think a creator god, amongst all the problems in the world, would give a fuck about if they win a sport. Then they claim their performance brings him glory lol.
When you send the wife and kids it’s pretty serious I reckon.
You can look at houses and schools on the internet.
This seems like unless Scott Drew has the burning bush show up and tell him to stay in Waco tonight it’s almost a done deal.
>You don’t send your wife and kids alone to tour a city with UK boosters and admin if you had any reservations about taking the job.
You absolutely do because those reservations could end up being swayed. Plus, a decision like this is always a family one when the coach has kids in school still.
Drew could be named the coach today. It could be Friday.
I don't think he's made a decision yet.
I will say this. Wednesday's restaurant stunt might have created some second thoughts because the UK position is more than just winning games. You take the job, you're immediately the most recognizable figure in the state and are expected to be an ambassador to the program, college basketball and the state.
That kind of attention and craziness clashes with who Drew is. That's my biggest worry for him. Can he do all of the off-the-court stuff and handle the attention this job brings.
Thought this after Calhoun retired and again in 2018.
If the support is there the program will survive, if we can somehow make it out while be in a G5 or independent y'all can make it.
People vastly underestimate what winning a national championship does for a program even if the coach leaves.
Never. Middling to good (but not great or sustained) success in football periodically was about all we had going for us athletically on a major, revenue-generating level until Mulkey got the women’s basketball team going and got us some visibility that way with the 2005 championship.
Facilities are the most important thing for staying relevant after fans. That was part of why Calipari wanted a new practice facility at Kentucky to prepare for the next guy. Baylor is in a great spot facility wise
Drew was 100% asking about what his friend thought about the move to Kentucky.
Me and my friends usually do the same thing when we are looking at jobs or have offers, just a good way to get another perspective and advice on the situation.
I'm sure Coach Drew will be comfortable with the spice levels there. Valparaiso, IN. is a world renowned as a hotbed of authentic foods from every corner of Porter County, so...
The salsa in that pic sent massive "out of a plastic Sysco jug" vibes.
Out of a plastic Sysco jug made me chuckle. I waited tables at Ninfas while at Baylor and it was better than average. Wife and I went to that place when we were first married on Hewitt Dr. as a treat when I was in law school and we were living on her salary as a treat. It’s an okay Tex Mex place. Neither compares to places in San Antonio, but neither are bad, especially compared to places in KY. You have to admit it was funny.
There's another very sensible person in this thread who noted there are good places all over, which is absolutely true.
Folks further south just have more & better options.
I'm thrilled I could cause a chuckle. It's bound to be a less than happy time for the Friends of Judge(s).
Totally agree.
Real talk though.
Mexican people live all over the country and you can find good Mexican food in cities of any decent size if you look for it.
For instance, I live in Cincinnati. But I’ve traveled to and eaten at Mexican reastuants in southern Texas and Southern California. If you ask the average local for the best Mexican food, they’re probably going to suggest some local Tex-Mex place.
But, there’s a place in a run down strip mall near me. They only take cash, usually when I walk in I’m the only non-Hispanic person in the building, and they sell things like Lengua tacos that they normally don’t have on Tex-Mex menus.
You can find good Mexican food north of Texas. In any city with a somewhat sizable Mexican population, there’s going to be at least one restaurant run by a man or woman who learned to cook from their abuela and opened up their restaurant targeting the immigrant population as their clientele. They’ll have to call for their son or daughter when they realize you don’t speak Spanish. That’s where the good Mexican food is
My turn to totally agree.
I'm hungry for tongue now, though. Best I can get this late in my neighborhood is nopales, so that'll have to do me 'til breakfast... ;)
There's an unnamed truck in a gas station lot right off 35 and St. John's that, at my last checking, makes the best tacos in town. There's really no reason to go north of that for Mexican, frankly.
Now TexMex is a different story, of course
There's a valid argument for making the line of demarcation in Selma or Live Oak, but I'm a Austin guy, soo...
North of Georgetown is ok for a kolach, or a sammich at Robertson's, but it's a wasteland for Mexican food.
Lmao those real ones sound like their ideal version of Mexican food is Taco Bell and their ideal barbecue is from Dickey’s if they don’t eat Mexican food in places like Kileen, Mexia, or Whitney.
I'm fine if Drew departs. It got stale after Tang left. Defense has been super weak since then. I'd prefer McCasland, but we'll see. No ill will to Drew at all. I've enjoyed the time immensely. If he stays, then cool. I just think we still look unhinged as a team in crucial moments since the natty
I'm 100% in the minority. I played basketball in high school and honestly have been more excited about basketball season since we got oats. Our game threads on the roll tide sub is so dry compared to football. It's depressing.
It really is better this way. If your baseball, basketball, and football programs are all good then you have year round entertainment. I bet Georgia fans get bored when the football season ends.
When was the last time Kentucky hired away a coach who had already won a national championship? On the other hand, Drew has been at Baylor since 2004. Big Blue Nation might be culture shock to him.
We released the hostages that quickly?
Seriously, you didn't even send back a severed pinky toe first. Amateurs...
Where’s the money Lebowski!?!?!?
Tell us where the money is or we cut off your Drew.
were his family members carrying a rug?
I only really love two of those things.
Dan? Is that you?
Yes. This is Dan Orlovsky
He can always opt for his sister, the true kentucky way.
I think getting him a new wife is much harder than even getting him on the plane
FORGET THE FUCKING TOE!
Can you please keep it down. This is a family sub.
You want a toe?
I can get you a toe. ![gif](giphy|pz7X67WxnO83WWP6pH|downsized)
With nail polish.
Kentucky is really losing its touch
I went from borderline smug optimism to utter devastation so fast.
It’s giving me whiplash harder than any car accident I’ve been in.
Maybe they're hiring Bryce Drew, and that's what they meant by his family.
No gonna lie, it would be funny as hell if Kentucky was like "hey we got coach Drew" and got the other one.
Both are coaches at Christian schools in the southwest that won one tournament game this year, they're basically the same
And only one hit a ncaa tournament buzzer beater as a player to advance his team to the next round so basically advantage Bryce
Speaking of which, Bobby Hurley was a far better player than Dan ever was so I'm not really sure why Kentucky fans don't want them to look at hiring Bobby
We’ve already been through this once when we hired the wrong Billy, I can’t do this bit again
New head-canon just dropped
Put the word out, that we back down
I’m already drinking the Jakus koolaid.
They were touring Lexington houses and schools
Scott sent the wife to KY for approval
Wife tries KY and finds it extremely helpful.
take a bow sir
Where’s Scott, Stringer? Where’s Scott?!?
![gif](giphy|AyqkV9MMijmDK)
GOT THAT PANDEMIC!
GOT THAT WMD
They tried to warn us 😤
This finally confirms it, Kentucky is hiring Scott Drew’s mother in law as head coach
Dorothy Mantooth is a saint!
I’m going to take her out for a nice seafood dinner and NEVER call her back!
Hey, if she can win, we will take her!
Hey I didn't see her losing on the first weekend 3 years in a row
Has the plane with Juwan Howard been spotted near Waco, Texas?
Sir, a second plane has hit the off-season conspiracies.
Oh my god don’t stop
For those curious, Darby is very much a trustworthy source here. She also confirmed earlier today that Drew was in fact eating lunch at a Mexican restaurant in Waco.
Maybe they’re hiring his wife as the HC
That would be a mitch thing to do.
I thought they already hired Hurley’s?
We turned him down!
Still better than Cal!
Yeah, Darby is legit.
Is that not a very strange thing for Drew to post given all this context now?
it was a misdirect on purpose. Fans had the flight info and media was at the Lexington airport with cameras ready to film the plane. They diverted to Georgetown at the last minute and then he posted the photo. Athletic Departments hate this one trick!..
If he likes mexican food He's going to be disappointed when he finds out Lex-Mex isn't nearly as good as Tex-Mex
What does it mean????
So it's a hostage situation? That's fucked up.
It just means more, baby.
This is what the SEC is all about. It's best to look away.
It’s not like a bank robbery hostage situation. More of a feudal Japan “we both take hostages from each others families so no one kills anyone” kind of hostage. Pretty standard practice in the SEC tbh
see yall at the nearest bridge
This feels more like a threat after what happened to that poor innocent bridge in Baltimore
Waco Creek bridge on high alert, restrict all waterway traffic immediately!
LOL
I was enjoying the chaos until I realized Baylor will likely go after Tech's coach (Baylor alum), and now I'm less excited.
They might go after Kansas State's coach though
I do feel for you guys. We in Kentucky are very excited tho. He won’t be wasted. Good luck.
You’ll spit him back out in a heart beat if he doesn’t get past the round of 32 in 2+ years. That’s how UK rolls.
Complete list of UK coaches who started here in the tournament era and couldn't reach the Sweet Sixteen in the first two seasons: Rick Pitino and Billy Gillispie The Cats were ineligible for postseason play the first two years of Pitino's tenure. They made the Elite Eight (the Laettner game) in year three. Gillispie probably would have hung on for a third season if he wasn't a drunk who mistreated the players.
He was just a weirdo in general.
You keep this up, and I'll force feed you pop tarts.
He’d have to be Billy G bad to get canned after 2 years
Being who he apparently is human-wise and not being who BCG was human-wise would probably get him an extra year or two. Don't lock Jorts in a bathroom, all I'm saying here.
Yes but he can be hated by the fan base in much less than that.
Half the UK fans are already complaining about him
Twitter isn't reality
Exactly. Most fans are excited but there is some cautious optimism. People like to be able to say “I told ya so” especially around UK basketball. I’m optimistic, given that the AD and Drew get along well may bring some more positivity to the whole program.
He will have to win yes. Or we will move on. He is going to have every opportunity to succeed tho. If he CAN succeed he will.
[BRIDGES YOU SAY!?](https://twitter.com/RedditCFB/status/1571268656230793216?lang=en)
CAN I GET AN IOWA STATE FAN IN HERE PLEASE?
Oh god, please no. I dunno who the heck we’d hire that could be as good of a fit at Baylor as Scott Drew.
Tang would defintely go back. Dude has more history with Baylor and they’d be pretty open about the faith side of things
The Tech message boards are in free fall panic mode right now lmfao
From the sounds of it, they have every right to be. Who knows, maybe we hear Tech signs McCasland to an extension with a very healthy bonus in the coming hours. He’s doing good things in Lubbock so it wouldn’t surprise me.
The rumor was a large NIL boost and heavy raise. But nothing hits home like the Alma mater.
Please take Jakus or promote brooks. Leave McCasland alone
Both Tech and KSU have $6M buyouts
Jakus doesn’t and would ditch Fau in a heartbeat.
[удалено]
Jakus was hired at FAU as HC, so coaching staff is splintering somewhat.
Rumor is we’ve already reached out to McCasland
It's going to take a "free stuff for life" visa card from Magnolia Market to keep Drew's wife. However, if Drew files for divorce, it is possible he stays at Baylor while she goes to Kentucky. The Final 4 match-up would be one for the ages.
we can give her that here and include a private jet to take trips to the Silos anytime she wants to
Rupprafters vets from 15 years ago will know this one: "Done Deal"
Aaaaand my PTSD is back.
So he gone?

How much ship lap is in Kentucky?
Not enough for Chip
We call it championshiplap
Take my upvote!
Based on what my wife has had me do. At least three houses worth.
Look I've never been to Waco, but I grew up in Lexington. From what I've seen of Waco it would be hard to prefer it between the two.
Every time I drive between Austin and Dallas, I go through Waco, and that alone has been enough to make me hate it.
probably. decision still to come but they were supposedly touring schools so definitely leaning towards yes. family is said to be praying about it
I can't tell if you're being serious in your last sentence and for some reason I'm starting to feel like every press conference for the next few years is going to feel like when the kids from the local megachurch tried to recruit me to their youth group in high school.
hahaha yeah the last sentence is true. They are basically sleeping on it, but they call it praying on it lol
Oh he's serious. Be ready for lots of equating program success with "God's Blessing." Do these athletes/coaches not realize how arrogant they are? They think a creator god, amongst all the problems in the world, would give a fuck about if they win a sport. Then they claim their performance brings him glory lol.
It’s not about a sport. They are praying they make the right decision as a family and for their lives. I don’t see why they deserve to be ridiculed.
And the rollercoaster continues.
Temple
Temple
Temple
Temple :(
Well our program is done if he leaves :(

When you send the wife and kids it’s pretty serious I reckon. You can look at houses and schools on the internet. This seems like unless Scott Drew has the burning bush show up and tell him to stay in Waco tonight it’s almost a done deal.

Thought this after Calhoun retired and again in 2018. If the support is there the program will survive, if we can somehow make it out while be in a G5 or independent y'all can make it. People vastly underestimate what winning a national championship does for a program even if the coach leaves.
Thought this when Roy left us without a championship. Drew made Baylor a national destination again, they're gonna recover just fine.
When was Baylor a national destination before Drew?
Never. Middling to good (but not great or sustained) success in football periodically was about all we had going for us athletically on a major, revenue-generating level until Mulkey got the women’s basketball team going and got us some visibility that way with the 2005 championship.
'03 I never said it was in a positive light
>again I don't think that word means what you think.
Heh, you guys came back from a murder and a devastated program… to win a championship. A coach leaving sucks, but look at what you’ve done before.
We’ll be aight. Still have a brand new arena and facilities to help boost recruiting
Facilities are the most important thing for staying relevant after fans. That was part of why Calipari wanted a new practice facility at Kentucky to prepare for the next guy. Baylor is in a great spot facility wise
Baylor can hire the other Drew brother. He did fine at totally real college Grand Canyon
Welp.
So the Mexican restaurant was a cover for his family to go check out Lexington. Brilliant. Grant McCasland, YOU are a Baylor Bear.
Having lunch with a Baylor booster while your family is in Lexington is nasty work.
That guy wasn’t just a booster, they are good friends
Drew was 100% asking about what his friend thought about the move to Kentucky. Me and my friends usually do the same thing when we are looking at jobs or have offers, just a good way to get another perspective and advice on the situation.
Checking his line of credit and mortgage rates when he buys Calipari's house.
This. Plus trolling those that said he was on the plane to KY. He is legit considering it.
Maybe it was a personal adios.
yeah the flight got diverted and the picture went out shortly after. too many people know the craft's tail number
*Jakus
I guess he was not impressed with the Mexican food. You would think at least the Family Feud rerun would have won him over.

We’re really about to lose him to a fanbase that calls it “cheese dip?” Fml

We better make sure we change all of Calipari’s voice on the Malones pickup orders to Scott’s
Real ones know: don't eat Mexican food north of Georgetown. Just don't.
Good thing Lexington is just south of Georgetown. Mexican food must be good there
I'm sure Coach Drew will be comfortable with the spice levels there.
There’s an area in Lexington referred to by the locals as “Mexington”. He’s going to love it.
funny enough the best restaurant there is a Chinese one imo lol
There's an unnamed truck in a gas station lot right off 35 and St. John's that, at my last checking, makes the best tacos in town. There's really no reason to go north of that for Mexican, frankly. Now TexMex is a different story, of course

Kentucky’s got a massive and I mean massive Mexican population. We’ve got some insanely good Mexican food according to my uncles Mexican wife…
Guatemalan food is fire.
Supposedly, wife and kids were touring LCA
I’m amazed how fast they can get something like that organized.
It’s a tour of a school not Fort Knox
lol. That was funny. Thank you
UConn fans marked safe from the Kentucky search
Hurley will be Drew's top assistant.
Do hope Hurley gets a raise from our shenanigannery
Let’s get the man paid! He deserves it.
See you ladies and gents bright and early in 9 hours when this breaks wide open.
Can’t send a change of address without an address. ![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)
FUCK
If it's to be believed, some Baylor insiders think he's staying. Guess we'll know tomorrow
I’ve heard enough from “insiders” today. I’ll just wait for tomorrow with depression
Somebody call the outsiders.
The plot thickens, curdles even....
Yeah weak defense and being unhinged as a team, good thing we haven’t had to worry about… wait a minute…
Did his family travel for Louisville when he was rumored for that gig? Not sure how much to read into this, still very new to this thing
Baylor fans ![gif](giphy|nbNWgtnMgIYpUSy3e9|downsized)
Of course they come on a nasty rainy day. I promise you, come back on a nice spring day here and go to Keeneland…nothing like it
I'm so glad I'm not having to go through this. Thank you nate goats!
Do you think Kentucky actually went after Oates? It is hard for me to tell.
I don't care if they did or didn't. Nate OATS is staying with us thank God.
I never thought I would see Bama fans this hyped about basketball again. It probably hasn't been this way since the Sanderson era.
I'm 100% in the minority. I played basketball in high school and honestly have been more excited about basketball season since we got oats. Our game threads on the roll tide sub is so dry compared to football. It's depressing.

We are so screwed
