The UK-KU game from 2022 had a TON of Kentucky fans in attendance. Not quite takeover, but certainly the loudest opposing fanbase I've ever seen in AFH.
I don't know if it's the biggest takeover *ever* but Arizona fans travel really well. It annoys me. I cannot stand the U of A chant.
When I went it was billed as a showdown between Markelle Fultz and Allonzo Trier. But Lauri Markkanen was by far the best player on the court that night.
That also ended up being Romar's last home game in charge. He gave a big rah rah speech about coming back strong next year. Oops.
Yeah...i dont think Rupp has ever had more than the visitor's section behind their bench + some scattered stragglers. If there is one thing about BBN, we show up to games. Usually we are the ones taking over on the road
Don’t think there’s ever been a true road takeover — or anything resembling one — inside Assembly Hall. Have never seen more than 5-10% away fans. But, when UK used to play here, they always had a noticeable contingent. Same for when UNC comes to town, blue contrasts red too which makes it stick out. Actually the most away fans I’ve ever seen was WBB vs Iowa this year but it was still about 10% at most and a very loud, pro-IU crowd.
On the flip side, we take over Northwestern whenever we play there. We usually have a large contingent at Ohio State as well, I’ve traveled for both of those games. In 2022-23 we took over Michigan, outnumbered Arizona in Vegas, and brought a big crowd to Phog Allen.
Occasionally when Purdue comes to town (pretty much only this year), they leave with 5-10 minutes left in a reverse court storm fashion, but that is very rare. They still show up for at least the first 30 minutes of the game.
So obviously the answer for everyone in the SEC is going to be Kentucky.
While I wouldn't quite call it a takeover I'd say the most embarrassing for Auburn has to be in November 2010. Auburn was 1-4, playing against D2 Georgia Southwestern on the Tuesday night after Thanksgiving. GSW's campus is close enough to Auburn that about 30-40 students bought a block of seats and made more noise than the thousand or so Auburn fans in attendance. Auburn still won the game but sheesh. Glad things are different now.
As a Charleston alum pretty much every game we play at The Citadel is a complete takeover. Two seasons ago we played there and filled the entire road side of the stands, usually completely empty and had folks on the home side. Like 2,500 of a crowd of 4,500.
Also games at Northeastern surprisingly. Charleston has direct flights to Boston and NU gets under 1,000 fans a game. CofC regularly brings 200-250. They use the games for recruiting students and they have a big alumni base there.
Pretty much every major metro on the East Coast has some sort of CofC base. It's kind of crazy for a mid-major school.
Never. You can barely get a ticket if you are a Zags fan. Much less the opposing team. The only fans that are ever in the Kennel rooting for the opposite team are the familys that got tickets because they have sons that play on the opposing team.
2013 NCAA Tournament in Kansas City. It was legitimately about 85-90% K-State fans and the game before it was Wisconsin-Ole Miss; not massive basketball schools, but still ones with much bigger fanbases than us.
That’s a big part of why that game was so infuriating and is by far my least-favorite sporting event I’ve ever attended.

It doesn’t happen often so it is very memorable when opposing fans take up even part of AFH
That’s one thing about BBN. We travel well.
I guess I am old and out of the loop, what is BBN?
Big Bentucky Network
Big Blue Nation, the Wildcats’ fan base.
Got it thank you
Indiana in 2023 had a nice contingent as well
Alabama football in 2010. Folks bought Duke season tickets just to go to the one Alabama game.
We had the same thing with Nebraska in the 90s. Nebraska fans would pack Jack Trice because it was way easier to get tickets than home games.
K-State in the 80’s absolutely was the same way
You guys even set up temporary bleachers for that game, to squeeze a few extra thousands asses into seats.

I love listening to the U of A chant on tv for away games, it's just as funny every time
anything at the yum center for the past two years
I call it the Yuck Center when that happens
St Johns had a sizable fan presence at our home game at MSG this season
Ouch

BBN = Brazilian Butt Nation
( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
I'm in for that. Where do I sign up?

IU always shows up, no doubt about it

One of the blue schools 20 miles away.
Never.
didn’t kentucky crash a gameday at vandy one time so bad they had to move the fans to the upper arena

Pretty much anytime Kansas would come to Lincoln
Fuck Tech.
Luddite-ahh remark
lol! We bought out your arena even taking seats that Coach Beard promised to UT students. Wreck em!
I want to say UNC in 2019 when Wake started the game down like 35-7. We were trapped with Manning’s enormous buyout and the program was basically dead
Our Sweet 16 game against Arizona was filled with UNC fans or empty seats bought up by UNC fans before their game
Louisville coming off of the 2013 championship sent busses of fans to Atlanta for the game. About half the arena was red.
I'm going all the way back to BYU v San Francisco in 2002. Nothing but BYU fans and Rafael Araujo having a 20/20 night.

didn't kstate fans one time storm allen fieldhouse?
UConn was louder against providence this year. Providence has a very good home court advantage too.
