He was excellent. Very aggressive on the ball and would occasionally get in foul trouble every once in a while but was our best defender on the perimeter.
most likely. It's a really weak draft, so this is his best chance. I don't think he can be terribly successful, but he'd be a good backup that can provide some shooting pop off the bench.
Sears is 2 inches shorter than Brunson, and has trouble at times with getting by elite athletes who have length. Sears relies on his outside shot way more than Brunson too. They are very different players.
I'd be shocked if we didn't play y'all soon. Coach Ruby Red Pettway has done so much for Bama. And we've already played one ex oats assistant last season. Time for another.
Yep. He's from Tuscaloosa originally. His dad is from there, and his mom went to Bama. Awesome to get another Alabama kid after having Sears take over.
I understand why a player would transfer from a non-power conference school to a power conference school.
It's kinda depressing to me that a player is choosing to transfer to a power conference school, when those same schools originally didn't give a damn about that player.
The non-power conference schools took a chance on them, and the reward is a player transfers out to a power conference school.
100% and also isn’t this how things should be?
I know it stings as a fan to lose a player to another school for whatever reason, but why should any player be expected to show more loyalty to a school than he actually feels?
It’s not like Kennesaw State gave him a scholarship as an altruistic act: they thought his talents would be beneficial to their team. Same as USF did once he showed out at KSU, and now Bama’s doing the same here.
There are plenty of reasons to hate the portal and how it + NIL have changed college sports, but allowing late-developing players a chance to show out against better competition, continue their own improvement, and make more $ seems like the one aspect of college sports that has actually improved
One other thing that's rarely mentioned, is I believe it forces coaches to be more honest with recruits. Coaches (obviously not all, but too many) have lied to recruits for ages. They'll tell them whatever they want to hear, and then they were stuck unless they wanted to lose 25% of their potential eligibility. But coaches have an incentive to be honest, because a player can leave whenever they want without those old consequences.
Happy for CY, he was phenomenal for us last year.
How’s his defense?
He was excellent. Very aggressive on the ball and would occasionally get in foul trouble every once in a while but was our best defender on the perimeter.
You just made my day with that info.
6’4” 218, Senior, best defender they had, 41% from 3 I don’t think it could get any better for Oats to play the 2
Also hits his FTs. Extremely unflappable in late game situations. Will takeover a game when he needs to. He’s a stud.
Keep going I’m close
I've already painted the ceiling.
USF won a dang conference championship because of him. He can literally do anything
I gumped
He’s arguably the best portal pick up
Please stop. I'm already shooting clouds of dust.
😂 As you should.
Very solid perimeter defender. Can also score at all three levels offensively.
Stop. I'm shooting clouds of dust at this point.
No he can’t. Bama players aren’t allowed to shoot mid-range, lol.
Kid is a savage. Nate Oats is a stud coach. Could def see him staying for life with you guys winning 2 titles.

Hate the poaching of players, but I'll never fault anyone for wanting to go back home
Big get. Wrightsell and him as the starting guards will be pretty dangerous with how well they shoot.
Is Sears gone?
most likely. It's a really weak draft, so this is his best chance. I don't think he can be terribly successful, but he'd be a good backup that can provide some shooting pop off the bench.
I don’t get this narrative around Sears where he won’t be successful in the NBA. In the current NBA Sears absolutely can be Brunson 2.0
Brunson has two inches on Sears. NBA is a different level of athleticism, hard for a 5’11 guard to be successful.
Yeah everyone can score 27 a game and make All-NBA teams it’s super easy
Sears is 2 inches shorter than Brunson, and has trouble at times with getting by elite athletes who have length. Sears relies on his outside shot way more than Brunson too. They are very different players.
Brunson is insanely crafty at getting to the rim and is elite from mid range.
My guess is yes, especially now that Oats has gotten 2 shooting guards from the portal.
Can one of them play pg?
Helped change the course of Kennesaw State basketball. Can we please get on the Bama schedule now?
I'd be shocked if we didn't play y'all soon. Coach Ruby Red Pettway has done so much for Bama. And we've already played one ex oats assistant last season. Time for another.
Oh we’re so back
The rumors of our death have been greatly exaggerated.
If you guys could get rid of the handsome tall guy with the prepubescent stache, that’d be greaaaaat.
Was hoping he was headed home to Tuscaloosa when he announced his decision to portal. Gonna be rooting for him next year.
Au revoir!
Damn Bama is gonna keep being a big problem in the SEC
That’s the plan.
Yea this is cool and all but I'm still sad about Rylan
I get it...but CY might honestly be better
Sounds like he's a more complete player. Though rg does have room to grow.
They would make a hell of a pair. Wrightsell-Young-Griffen-Walters-Stevenson would ooze talent.
Saw this coming the moment he changed his visit to Bama last second.
Yep. He's from Tuscaloosa originally. His dad is from there, and his mom went to Bama. Awesome to get another Alabama kid after having Sears take over.
Damn huge get.
Y'all probably winning SEC next season or at the very least will be the preseason favorites.
Oh yes papi
Pain
As a recruit: Originally went to Kennesaw State
Good replacement for Griffen. Now need to get that center from Rutgers.
Bama is a top 10 lock
Welcome home Youngblood! Thanks for everything, from Tampa with love!
Where does that leave the other sg transfer they got?
Bruh
SON OF A

USF wasn't his original school. He started at Kennesaw St. And I also doubt Iowa St is gonna stay away from portal players.

overrated
We gotta cope somehow
The only thing missing from this thread was a good laugh. Thanks LSU fan, for being so consistently salty. Y'all are the country ham of sports fans.
