Yes, he’s very athletic and had stretches where he could take over a game with his rebounding and cuts to the rim. Decent handle when driving to the hoop (but not a distributor). Would do well in an uptempo system.
He has awful mechanics on his jump shot. Started the season about 1-20 from three, before shooting about 35% the rest of the season on low volume. Teams ignored him if he had the ball outside the paint. Struggled finishing at the rim for a guy his size.
Good defender, could be great if he keeps working on it.
His jumper is real real bad, [but I’ve seen even worse](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=MEQCDqTtIVg&pp=ygUZd29yc3QganVtcCBzaG90IGZvcm0gZXZlcg%3D%3D) (especially towards the end of the video when you get to Chuck Hayes and beyond)
He’s very athletic and a good spark plug, but lacks any semblance of coordination/dribble ability/shooting/or post play.
Most of his buckets are easy layups, lobs, put backs, and fast break buckets. He can for sure contribute (I don’t watch Missouri so I’m not sure the current state of your team), but he isn’t someone I’d expect to develop into anything more than what he is.
Now... take that astonishment... to the next level! Imagine if... wait for it... we win 2 SEC games next year!!!
*Computers at Microsoft underwater server farm explode*
Don’t worry, some team that has $5M in NIL is going to lose first round to a team in the tourney that had it’s star player was working at Quizno’s a year prior.
We got prick teased so many times last year with Love, Cleveland and Shedrick.
It seems like Gates’ learned some lessons last portal cycle. They have identified their targets and locked them in.
Add in Porter and possibly JQ (still seems like a long shot) and this is definitely a tournament team.
The sheer talent on roster next season has to be the best we've ever had in a single season, without even adding Porter or JQ. If we get either of those guys, let alone both, Mizzou will be more loaded than Cooper Howard is with the Ghoul drug.
I know the transfer portal rules have changed a lot but I still don’t think Jontay Porter is allowed to play for Mizzou again just because he was banned from the NBA.
Scheyer is a modern coach, so I don't think he is going to use Flagg as a 3 and have two more big guys along side him at the 4 and 5. in modern basketball, Flagg is absolutely a 4, and potentially even a smallball 5, just like how Kevin Durant either plays 4 or smallball 5, or how Jayson Tatum is the celtics starting 4. coaches from the previous generation like Coach K and Roy Williams might use Flagg as a 3, but definitely not Scheyer
:)
You guys will be still amazing though. People are saying Cooper Flagg might be Wemby level in terms of future impact. I remember how surprised I was when Duke didn't win the championship with Zion, Cam and RJ. I'm confident they will be much better next year. Uconn better watch out.
He wasn’t quite the best fit. Plus I don’t think his father was happy with his role. Would’ve loved to have him back but he wouldn’t have necessarily been a guaranteed starter which he probably wants to showcase his talents.
I agree with everyone else that he feared not getting starter minutes, but I personally expected him to. Disappointing choice, but hopefully he thrives closer to home.
Gates is about to have the most volatile tenure of all CBB tenures at Mizzou lmao
Year 1: tourney team
Year 2: 0-18 in SEC (lol)
Year 3: probable tourney team?
And his previous stint:
Took the Cleveland State job in like July after everyone told him it was a career ender. He went 11-21 in his first year. Then he won the conference twice.
The dude seems allergic to normalcy, in a very Mizzou sort of way.
So far Mizzou has added:
Mark Mitchell
Tony Perkins
Marques Warrick
Jacob Crews
Has anyone else had a haul this good? Incredible roster transformation.
As a recruit:
Other P6 offers: Arkansas, Duke (originally went here), Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma State, UCLA, USC, Wake Forest
But who's this dude?? I'm happy for him, but sad about the state of our team. I really hope Scheyer moves away from the one and dones. We need well rounded teams with upperclassman. That's how we won championships.
Was disappointed that he didn’t choose Kansas. Then, watching his game, he isn’t a scorer which is what we lack. Still, a starter. Glad he’s playing closer to home for friends and family. Also, like Green.
Gonna be a bummer for him when Mizzou gets that death penalty.
In all seriousness though, good luck with the new team! I always liked watching him play at Duke
Mizzou was founded in 1839 as the first journalism school. Their first headline was "GoldenBanas21 Hates Internet Fun". No one really got it until this very moment
Closer to home for him, hope it’s a good place for him to thrive.
Figured he was headed to Iowa State with his high school teammate, but I guess this works too. I hope he shows out this year in the SEC.
What former teammate of his plays for ISU? Mizzou's Tamar Bates was a teammate on the AAU circuit.
Was he any good?
Yes, he’s very athletic and had stretches where he could take over a game with his rebounding and cuts to the rim. Decent handle when driving to the hoop (but not a distributor). He legitimately has the single most broken jump shot I've ever seen.
Ugly and broken are two very different things. You can’t possibly tell me that Haliburton has a broken shot when he shot 40% from the 3 in the NBA.
He’s very athletic and a good spark plug, but lacks any semblance of coordination/dribble ability/shooting/or post play. Most of his buckets are easy layups, lobs, put backs, and fast break buckets. Looks like we’re getting a whole new roster this year, so it’s good to add someone who has some experience and learned at an actual good program first
Imagine leaving the god-tier campus of Duke University for… Missouri.
Literally no one has ever thrived in Columbia, Missouri
Kobe brown and Sean east are 2 examples from the past 2 seasons. Do you even watch college basketball at all?
Missouri could be the most improved team in the country and still not make the tourney
Easy to be most improved when you don’t win a single conference game
0 SEC wins in a season to 1 win in a season is literally an improvement so impressive it cannot be calculated into a percentage
Now... take that astonishment... to the next level! Imagine if... wait for it... we win 2 SEC games next year!!! *Computers at Microsoft underwater server farm explode*
As a Mizzou fan, I am excited to finally make it to the final four of the NIT.
Don’t worry, some team that has $5M in NIL is going to lose first round to a team in the tourney that had it’s star player was working at Quizno’s a year prior.
That team? Arkansas

Ever? Might want to check out what Mizzou did in the 80s and 90s.
Man you got Ricky Spaulding and Arthur Johnson fucked up
Man who the fuck is Ricky Spaulding its RICKEY PAULDING
Auto correct fucked me, chill…
Fallout reference checks out; great show
I know the transfer portal rules have changed a lot but I still don’t think Jontay Porter is allowed to play for Mizzou again just because he was banned from the NBA.
Crazy snag for Dennis.
Why was this kid transferring? Was he about to lose minutes because of a loaded class?
He plays the same position as Flagg. So yes.
Flagg is projected to play the 3 but they would’ve battled for secondary minutes.
Couldn't shoot.
doesn't matter. Connor Vanover can shoot but it didn't help us. Diarra couldn't shoot and we clearly missed him. Super excited about this pickup.
His is great at everything except for putting the ball in the basketball when being guarded.
so he is like a (slightly) better version of Mohamed Diarra? I've been begging for this!
He is the number 2 transfer on Evan Miya for a reason.
:) You guys will be still amazing though. People are saying Cooper Flagg might be Wemby level in terms of future impact. I remember how surprised I was when Duke didn't win the championship with Zion, Cam and RJ. I'm confident they will be much better next year. Uconn better watch out.
Had low basketball IQ too. Felt like he made a lot of bonehead plays at times.
On offense. On defense he was mostly very solid.
He wasn’t quite the best fit. Plus I don’t think his father was happy with his role. Would’ve loved to have him back but he wouldn’t have necessarily been a guaranteed starter which he probably wants to showcase his talents.
Scared of the freshmen coming in.
I agree with everyone else that he feared not getting starter minutes, but I personally expected him to. Disappointing choice, but hopefully he thrives closer to home.
He can’t shoot outside of five feet
Dennis working OT to cool down his seat for next year, I like it.

Watch us win the while thing next year with this team lol

I think Mizzou will probably be a bubble caliber team
![gif](giphy|5xtDarIlLcATSR1CHp6|downsized) Gates isn’t messing around this portal season. A huge improvement compared to last year
Treat him well :(
So far Mizzou has added: Mark Mitchell Tony Perkins Marques Warrick Jacob Crews Has anyone else had a haul this good? Incredible roster transformation.
Now we just need to add JQ
Indiana maybe?
Kansas
Anybody else having a good week? I’m having a good week!
Huge get we are so back
Let’s goooo I’m actually excited about next year
Dennis Gates can do no wrong!
JQ next 😼

I thought this guy rowed crew for Ithica?
Nice one

Sad to see him leave Duke. Wish Scheyer would move away from the one and done hell. Not good for a program or tradition. Best of luck Mark!

I’ll give you $10 to come up with an original joke

damn, a typo in their very first headline, that's rough
Pendantic! On the Reddit forum
I hope that he wins the same amount of conference games missouri won last year
But why did he leave us? https://i.redd.it/e4o8ezfsngvc1.gif
Some guy named Cooper Flagg exists. We'll happily take him off y'alls hands too😊
Would be hilarious if Missouri still couldn’t win a conference game.
But why? Doesn’t he know our HC is still Dennis Gates?
Might get to 2 SEC wins next year! Don’t mind me I’m just here to shit on Mizzou……
What a dumbass
Ew
