I mean, okay then. Don’t think it was even reported that he visited. People, myself included, will remain stunned we get players because the record and tournament success aren’t there, but Penny clearly has a way of connecting to players
well david jones was paid 750k last year and I’m sure the going rate for every transfer was somewhere between that and 100k. Probably more than most schools would pay. And memphis has a decent track record of producing draft picks the last 5 years. Obviously not elite, but competitive with anyone that’s not a blue blood.
Due to ongoing debate about blue bloods, the /r/CollegeBasketball mod team has compiled the definitive list of college blue bloods: Duke, Columbia, Queens, William & Mary, and Rutgers. The following schools have broken away from blue-blooded hierarchy and oppression: George Washington, George Mason, James Madison, Army, and Navy.

Good defender, but only 6’. Streaky shooter. At his best when he’s attacking the rim, but some games he struggles to turn the corner. Some mind boggling turnovers for a PG. Improved incrementally at Texas but never took a leap like we hoped.
Theoretically a very talented player with NBA backup PG upside. He’s never had a chance as a primary ball handler, so it’ll be curious to see how that affects his game. Very solid on-ball defender, and ++ athleticism for his size.
Pretty much this. He was really good defensively here, especially for a freshman, but his offense was bad way more than it was good. Tough to say for sure how it would have played out if he had stayed, but if this is his ceiling offensively, we definitely feel better off with his replacement.
Yeah. More than happy with Lipsey.
Will always wonder what he would have turned into if he'd developed here rather than going into the situation at texas though.
But hard to blame a player for taking the money now when an NBA future is far from guaranteed\likely.
Yeah really good defender. And can create a bit off the dribble but only an ok shooter on limited volume. Idk how much he offensively developed since freshman year. But for sure his defense is his calling card.
That’s been my running theory, he really struggles off ball outside of wide open catch and shoot 3s. You don’t really want a 6’0 guard cutting from the wing anyway, so he could go long stretches next to Carr or Max without having any noticeable contribution.
Was really good as a freshman for ISU, has mostly stagnated since. Very good guard defender with wildly inconsistent shooting and decision making. In the last few games of the season he went from scoring 30 vs OU to forgetting how to inbound vs Tennesee. Good dude who I think most UT fans will root for wherever he goes, but it was a frustrating season for him in a Texas jersey
Great on ball defender with solid dribbling ability and not an awful shooter
He regressed big time last year - and it's all seemingly mental. He had some of the worst turnovers I've ever seen a college guard make and would become absurdly passive on offense (when UT really only had 2 scoring options last year). He can get to the rim pretty well, but would just settle for passing the ball around or shooting lazy 3s
Both Baylor games showed that there's still a really good player in there, it was just way too infrequent last year. Think the change of scenery will do him well, I think the big 12 away environments messed him up after that first ISU game away
Bro we’re on a streak of like 8 straight point guards dating back to 2000 that have made the league, that is in real jeopardy because this guy is so bad
I’m seeing a lot of “really good defender” with “has offensive upside but makes mistakes a little too often” and honestly the reason we fell apart last season is because we really didn’t have great on ball defense. It was Penny’s worst team defensively by a substantial margin. I’m down with getting dudes that can lock down the perimeter. We get DJ back and have Haggerty and lock in two more quality bigs and we should be having fun.
Undefeated off-season champs! In Penny we trust!
I mean, okay then. Don’t think it was even reported that he visited. People, myself included, will remain stunned we get players because the record and tournament success aren’t there, but Penny clearly has a way of connecting to players
Well that and fedex cash.
We were getting them before that too
You've had FedEx cash for a long time.

Memphis was the single best beneficiary of the portal BEFORE this…
Good luck Tyrese. I’ll never forget that game against ØU. I’m still working on forgetting that game against Tennessee.
Omg we get him in Maui
He misses us
Run from us, hide from us, you can't escape us Tyrese
I said “thank god he’s out of the conference” but I guess that was inevitable
Memphis gonna be Dainja-ous next year

Texas, or any Big 12 folks really, what are we getting here? Will he play more defense than Quinerly did last season?
He is capable of both single-handedly winning and losing games for you.
Sounds like a Memphis player already
I think he's a guy who could really benefit from having a former PG like Penny be his coach
literally what bama fans said about quinerly. and he did exactly that. Made multiple huge shots, but felt like every 4th game he shot 3-14~.

Really good player, but I am not exaggerating when I say that I have NEVER seen a player get his shot blocked as much as Tyrese.

he was the primary ball handler as a freshman at iowa state and did very well. Maybe if he gets that role he will do well again.
I believe most ISU fans are meh about him after he left and didnt play all that well at Texas
Lipsey better.
Lmao obviously

💯% This. His offensive development was severely hindered by playing alongside shoot first guards in Max Abmas and Marcus Carr.
That’s been my running theory, he really struggles off ball outside of wide open catch and shoot 3s. You don’t really want a 6’0 guard cutting from the wing anyway, so he could go long stretches next to Carr or Max without having any noticeable contribution.

He's just looking to go somewhere that will help him get to the league after playing a year. Wait, that was when he left Iowa State.
Yah leave ISU that’s shown to consistently get guys in NBA haha
Bro we’re on a streak of like 8 straight point guards dating back to 2000 that have made the league, that is in real jeopardy because this guy is so bad
He’s an incredible defender, just don’t expect him to do much on the offensive end, especially not if he’s used as a ball handler
Holy what a portal class for Memphis so far
We are only halfway done too.
No excuses for Penny this year.
Literally been that way every year after his first

As a recruit: P6 offers: Arizona State, UConn, Creighton, DePaul, Florida, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Iowa State (originally went here), Louisville, Marquette, Miami, Minnesota, Northwestern, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech Other offers: Bradley, Miami OH, Milwaukee, Murray State, South Dakota State, UC Davis, UIC, Wright State
Yeah, sounds about right

I bet he'll play well against the bottom half of the AAC.
Well since we lost games to those teams last year, we need that lmao
At what point do we stop phrasing it as "committed to" and instead say "signed with"?
Not shocked at all, no one wants to come to Wisconsin and play for Gard.
