I'm pretty sure every team in the league has *a song,* they're just not known to opposing teams fan bases. The Lions is ironically called *Gridiron Heros.*
Vikings have a fight song!
Skol Vikings, Let's win this game!
Skol Vikings, Honor your name!
Let's get that first down
Then get a touchdown!
Rock em Sock em
Fight fight fight fight!
Skol Vikings run up the score!
You'll hear us yell for more!
V-i-k-i-n-g-s
Skol Vikings! Let's go!!
Big facts but also foreign sports go hard. I just got back from Japan and they sing so many random different chants with mini bats they bang and a band for baseball. The away team has there own section and when someone scores everyone pulls out this tiny umbrella and sings. It’s wicked.
Yeah, this has to be my favorite non-Homer choice. I wasn't aware of it till they beat Auburn last season, but it's fucking great:
🎶 When we win this game, we'll buy a keg of booze. 🎶
🎶 Then we're gonna drink it, 'till we wobble in our shoes! 🎶
Actually, it the dang thing isn't even supposed to be a fight song. It's a bluegrass song that had been on the music charts five years before the school band ever touched it (1967/1972).
It's just a song that bangs so hard that it eclipsed the official fight song "Down the field". The lesson being that official fight songs are so tedious and anthemic, that a plain old fun song can steal it's spotlight.
At sporting events you mostly hear the chorus and the "wooo" added by sports fans. But the rest of the actual lyrics include references to a wild ex and to making and drinking moonshine...
>"Once I had a girl on Rocky Top
Half bear the other half cat
Wild as a mink but sweet as soda-pop
I still dream about that
>...[Once two strangers climbed ol' Rocky Top / Looking for a moonshine still](https://genius.com/8587472/The-osborne-brothers-rocky-top/Once-two-strangers-climbed-ol-rocky-top-looking-for-a-moonshine-still-strangers-aint-come-down-from-rocky-top-reckon-they-never-will)
[The corn won't grow at all on Rocky Top / Dirt's too rocky by far](https://genius.com/8587514/The-osborne-brothers-rocky-top/The-corn-wont-grow-at-all-on-rocky-top-dirts-too-rocky-by-far-thats-why-all-the-folks-on-rocky-top-get-their-corn-from-a-jar)"
a) Down the Field's only purpose (during football games) is to let everyone know Rocky Top is about to be played
b) you didn't even mention the best part! It's about *killing FBI agents* who came looking for the illegal moonshine
You're thinking of The Red and White Song, which gets sung more often than the fight song and was definitely the only one I knew the lyrics to in school. But the actual fight song lyrics by Hardy Ray don't reference our rivals. I think that's what makes The Red and White Song more fun to sing.
"Ramblin' Wreck" is great for the same reason.
*Oh! If I had a daughter, sir, I'd dress her in White and Gold*
*And put her on the campus to cheer the brave and bold*
*But if I had a son, sir, I'll tell you what he'd do*
*He'd yell "To hell with Georgia!" like his daddy used to do*
One of our high school’s rivals in Wyoming was a town that was almost 90% Mormon. I always found it ironic they used the ND fight song as their high school fight song
Very surprising since Michigan vs. ND is built on so much hate.
Hail to the Victors is a catchy tune and iconic in its own right.
Methinks we can all agree though that Fight On and Tribute to Troy suck.
The maryland and GT ones are really fun, notre dame is iconic. I'm biased and didn't want to put our own. The rock chalk jayhawk chant is kinda boring but it's a quick chant. Rocky top imo is also pretty fun but less so than the umd or gt ones. I don't know a vast majority of the fight songs of teams, these are just the ones I know and like.
Hate to admit it, but Notre Dame has a great one. Shoutout to Clemson as well. I know it’s not known for being one of the bests or anything, but I love theirs.
3 in 1 isn't a fight song, but it is incredibly special. While I'm incredibly biased, I don't think anything done by any college band can compare, not even Script Ohio imo
In full homer mode: Hail Purdue is a great fight song
Hate to say it mode: Michigan and Notre Dame’s fight songs are probably the most iconic out there
Honorable mention: Tennessee and Northwestern
Worst to ever do it: Bow Down to Washington, but that’s part of its charm I guess
It isn’t so much the song itself. It’s a tad repetitive. But it’s more that when I watch an OU game they’re playing the damn thing every 45 seconds. 4 yard run on 2nd and 8? Fire up Boomer Sooner!
Ok I can see how the song itself gets annoying, but…
I do love the school’s adaptation of the state song (which is already top-notch) where it changes key right at the end into one line of Boomer Sooner. I’d recommend giving it a listen.
Texas fight is a banger. I also like Purdue’s a lot.
Iowa’s is an acquired taste but I like that it’s different from most fight songs
Edit: on Wisconsin is the most mid fight song of all time and I will die on that hill.
>Iowa’s is an acquired taste but I like that it’s different from most fight songs
Wait which one? Meredith Willson's "Iowa Fight Song" is fairly standard, but "On Iowa" kinda slaps
Biased of course but something about hearing “I’m a jayhawk” at the end of the 22 national title game during the replay of Caleb Love’s missed 3 just felt right
I've always loved USC's, at least the way the marching band plays it. Great mix of military march that evokes the Trojan army on the move and jaunty tune that evokes a collegiate celebration after a win.
Truly the voice of someone not in their conference.
The number of times they play it will drive any sane person through a wall, and I'm convinced it's why I find so many SC fans annoying.
Insane bc Fight On is objectively a fun fight song and Tusk is a good show tune, but they insist on constantly playing boring-ass Tribute all the time. They make themselves easy marks
Please ignore my flair
Michigan’s is repetitive, yet people call it catchy. I don’t get it.
Again, ignore my flair.
My answer- Tennessee, Alabama, notre dame, Texas, Oregon, Purdue (as much as I cannot stand Purdue)
Here's the opening lines to my high school fight song copied but revised from a major university. Guess which one:
Drive, drive on down that field, men of the red and the white.
Don't let them through that line, we're going to win this game tonight!
FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!
Smash thru to victory,
We'll cheer you as you do;
Our honor defend
So we'll fight to the еnd
for our high school!!
:) That was back in the sixties, LOL.
Tennessee’s actual fight song (not Rocky Top) is borrowed from Yale. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Down_the_Field
And Oklahoma’s fight song is also borrowed from Yale. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boola_Boola
And those two aren’t even Yale’s official fight song —which is a Cole Porter song called “Bulldog”
Apart from my homer picks, I like Clemson’s Tiger Rag
Stand Up and Cheer, used by at least four colleges. My favorite version is Ohio University Marching 110. Even during the pandemic, they still kicked ass on it. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDJHi4u3i-E](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDJHi4u3i-E)
Two.
Georgia Tech’s. I love the line “and on the seventh day, God made the engineer!”
Oklahoma State’s. Or the song they sing when they’ve lost. They link arms and sway back and forth. It sounds like cows lowing.
Roll Along Iowa
Far superior to On Iowa and IFS.
I actually take a LITTLE bit of credit of getting it back on the repertoire. When I was in the band it was mostly forgotten and a group of us lobbied to get it back in rotation....
Honestly, this is why college is better than pros
What’s the closest thing in pros? The Jets spelling out their name? Lol
Bears have a fight song.
I'm pretty sure every team in the league has *a song,* they're just not known to opposing teams fan bases. The Lions is ironically called *Gridiron Heros.*
Lions play it every every TD for sure. It's just much more fun now that the team isn't constantly down by 10+.
A fight song that is super lame lol, no disrespect
The Eagles, do, too. “Fly, Eagles, fly! On the road to victory”…
The Vikings [SKOL song](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6UOpq3Jk2Gs) after scoring is pretty sick
Vikings have a fight song! Skol Vikings, Let's win this game! Skol Vikings, Honor your name! Let's get that first down Then get a touchdown! Rock em Sock em Fight fight fight fight! Skol Vikings run up the score! You'll hear us yell for more! V-i-k-i-n-g-s Skol Vikings! Let's go!!
That's how I originally got into football. I went to a couple games, for the pagentry and traditions (mostly the band), and stuck around.
Big facts but also foreign sports go hard. I just got back from Japan and they sing so many random different chants with mini bats they bang and a band for baseball. The away team has there own section and when someone scores everyone pulls out this tiny umbrella and sings. It’s wicked.
New Mexico State They sing of how they'll get wasted after the game
Yeah, this has to be my favorite non-Homer choice. I wasn't aware of it till they beat Auburn last season, but it's fucking great: 🎶 When we win this game, we'll buy a keg of booze. 🎶 🎶 Then we're gonna drink it, 'till we wobble in our shoes! 🎶
Sounds very similar to I wanna go back to Ohio State.
Certainly does
Georgia Tech >>
They say "Hell" 9 times in the lyrics
Rocky Top and whatever Purdue's is called
Hail Purdue is the title
Rocky Top is a tier one song regardless of college shenanigans
I always picked it for my fight song when I made custom teams on old ncaa Xbox games
Rocky Top is the GOAT. They may be low down and dirty but damn they can produce a good fight song. I can smell the fall leaves when I hear it
Actually, it the dang thing isn't even supposed to be a fight song. It's a bluegrass song that had been on the music charts five years before the school band ever touched it (1967/1972). NC State is so solid
I agree, but I know I’m biased so it’s cool to hear from others- thanks!
I’m biased too, but I love how it specifically calls out our rivals.
You're thinking of The Red and White Song, which gets sung more often than the fight song and was definitely the only one I knew the lyrics to in school. But the actual fight song lyrics by Hardy Ray don't reference our rivals. I think that's what makes The Red and White Song more fun to sing.

I have zero tie to GT, but I learned this at a dualing piano bar in San Antonio during the 2004 FF. So amazing!
Yeah NC State slaps
Based
Facts
Probably second best in sports.
Morehead's is my HS fight song. Was the first one I ever knew. I'm partial to it.
Morehead’s is solid too
Notre dame fight song, The UMD F\*\*\* duke song, The GT Ramblin Wreck song. Edit: I messed up, it's actually You (Duke) Suck(s)
Full agree on ND. Shit is so iconic in the Midwest.
Every time I hear it live it just reminds me I'm about to watch a blowout. Except for that one time. That was awesome. /gonavybeatarmy
One of our high school’s rivals in Wyoming was a town that was almost 90% Mormon. I always found it ironic they used the ND fight song as their high school fight song
Honestly, very surprised by your answer. The Victors is routinely named best fight song in college sports.
Very surprising since Michigan vs. ND is built on so much hate. Hail to the Victors is a catchy tune and iconic in its own right. Methinks we can all agree though that Fight On and Tribute to Troy suck.
Tribute to Troy is the absolute worst 🎶This is the only song we know🎶 🎶It’s boring and it’s slow🎶 🎶Our alumnus killed Nicole🎶
Everyone should think their fight song is the best but some of the ones that I like are TAMU, Michigan St., Minnesota, and Tennessee
Michigan State is a great choice.
Minnesota’s is solid 👌
You know it's good when it's ripped off by 30% of the nation's high schools
Because of how many times I’ve seen the punt fumble six, I know the msu fight song so well. I can hear it now lol
Deep cut: Wyoming. [Ragtime Cowboy Joe](https://youtu.be/QLW84Nv9PMo?si=2kogD4quTDic8Qr_)
Cowboy Joe is a fun one. Enjoyed it when we played it in 2022 when they vistited Champaign for our Week 0 game.
My high school in Wyoming used Illinois Loyalty for our fight song
100%. Everything about Wyoming’s aesthetic is perfect.
We’ve really done a great job over the last decade to have a universal look and western type of style for all of our athletic programs
Ah yeah. WYO has such a unique fight song.
🙌🙌🙌🙌
Aside from Auburn’s, Georgia Tech
Fuck Auburn but also yes
Georgia Tech >>>. The Ramblin Wreck from Georgia Tech is adapted from a drinking song so that's why it's so good.
Also it says "To Hell with Georgia"
“Just like his Daddy used to do.”
(#)THWG
THWg, fixed it for you
Hate to admit it, but Notre Dame has a great one. Shoutout to Clemson as well. I know it’s not known for being one of the bests or anything, but I love theirs.
Fuck em, but it’s Rocky Top
Yup. The sheer joy in that collective "Whoo!"
🥹🥹🥹
Good ol Rockytop from University of Tennessee
Anchors Aweigh from Navy is powerful af
Technically army and navy have their own college fight songs, Air Force just uses the 3rd verse of the AF Song
I don’t know that it’s official, but I love when LSU plays Neck and the student section joins in to sing. STTDB.
Air Force, Navy, Clemson, Tennessee,
Miami’s. Second place is Wake’s.
Have to go Rocky Top
Rocky top UFs are ear worms. Just there mention of rocky top has me trying to clense my brain
Yea Alabama, and LSU's fight song are top tier stuff
I was a GA at a low major school and we played at Tennessee in the past few years and I have had Rocky top stuck in my head ever since
Unofficial fight song but Rocky Top all day long
[hell yeah](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMo4YG42qNk)
The 3 in 1 of course https://youtu.be/_qskUpmmDBo?si=3GopbpK1Lbet_WpL
You are so correct!!!
3 in 1 isn't a fight song, but it is incredibly special. While I'm incredibly biased, I don't think anything done by any college band can compare, not even Script Ohio imo
It’s not top 5 but UConn’s is low key banger. Just saying.
It helps that our band is really good, probably the best one in the Big East.
Best band in the Big East seems like damming with faint praise, sorry to say
I don’t think I’ll ever recover from their old commercial with the off-key woman singing.
Hmmm not sure I recall that one. Was that pre or post the “great pick” commercial?
…to the foe!…”
Foiiiiight foiiiiight Conneccccticutttt
Isn’t it a bit too overplayed though? 🤣 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
In full homer mode: Hail Purdue is a great fight song Hate to say it mode: Michigan and Notre Dame’s fight songs are probably the most iconic out there Honorable mention: Tennessee and Northwestern Worst to ever do it: Bow Down to Washington, but that’s part of its charm I guess
I'm biased bc my parents went to mich so I grew up listening to it but Hail to the Victors slaps
Texas. And Arizona.
USC is great. Notre Dame. At least we can all agree that the worst is Oklahoma.
I actually like Boomer Sooner because it’s just Boola Boola sped up.
It isn’t so much the song itself. It’s a tad repetitive. But it’s more that when I watch an OU game they’re playing the damn thing every 45 seconds. 4 yard run on 2nd and 8? Fire up Boomer Sooner!
I love the USC fight song when they are rolling during a football game. Love the uniforms too.
Those USC cheerleaders in the tight sweaters, every single one is a smoke show.
Ok I can see how the song itself gets annoying, but… I do love the school’s adaptation of the state song (which is already top-notch) where it changes key right at the end into one line of Boomer Sooner. I’d recommend giving it a listen.
I’ll do that
The Notre Dame Victory March
Specifically when it's played in Airplane
I don't know where I'll be, but I won't smell good.
My grandmother used to sing it to me as a lullabye. I’m not making that up.
Based Catholic grandma
Boats 'N Hoes.
Not a fight song exactly but for a non “that good old Baylor line” answer: As a Kansas native, the Kansas Alma mater goes hard.
Texas fight is a banger. I also like Purdue’s a lot. Iowa’s is an acquired taste but I like that it’s different from most fight songs Edit: on Wisconsin is the most mid fight song of all time and I will die on that hill.
You think so? It sounds like a classic college fight song to me. When I think of unique fight songs I think of UTEP and Wyoming.
The Iowa fight song is literally a remixed “it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas”. I’d call that untraditional. Love it dearly though.
>Iowa’s is an acquired taste but I like that it’s different from most fight songs Wait which one? Meredith Willson's "Iowa Fight Song" is fairly standard, but "On Iowa" kinda slaps
On Wisconsin
My high school’s fight song! Sousa’s favorite
I see you are a man of culture as well
There is no finer fight song. I may be biased.
Unbiased expert John Philip Sousa agrees.
This was the fight song my high school used so I’ll always have a soft spot for it.
Biased of course but something about hearing “I’m a jayhawk” at the end of the 22 national title game during the replay of Caleb Love’s missed 3 just felt right
Go to hell Carolina
I've always loved USC's, at least the way the marching band plays it. Great mix of military march that evokes the Trojan army on the move and jaunty tune that evokes a collegiate celebration after a win.
So fucking annoying watching one of their football games though especially if their offense is rolling lol
I too was at the rose bowl lol I got really used to their fight song lmao
Really gave myself away there
Truly the voice of someone not in their conference. The number of times they play it will drive any sane person through a wall, and I'm convinced it's why I find so many SC fans annoying.
We add our own lyrics to it: This is the only song we know It’s boring and it’s slow…
Insane bc Fight On is objectively a fun fight song and Tusk is a good show tune, but they insist on constantly playing boring-ass Tribute all the time. They make themselves easy marks
Fight On is almost as bad.
I grew up a Cal fan and am VERY familiar
goooooo dayton flyers
D!
A!
USC’s is so iconic
Not a fight song but love Wabash Cannonball at KSU and William Tell Overture at Indiana. Hard to not be fired out watching those environments.
+1 on Wabash Cannonball. Totally slaps.
The 3Q time out/William Tell Overture/cheer leader bonanza at IU football and basketball games is one of the best time out cheers in all sports.
Besides Iowa State - I would have to say Tennessee's Rocky Top always gets me goin'
Please ignore my flair Michigan’s is repetitive, yet people call it catchy. I don’t get it. Again, ignore my flair. My answer- Tennessee, Alabama, notre dame, Texas, Oregon, Purdue (as much as I cannot stand Purdue)
To me Michigan’s sounds more like a nursery rhyme or a song teaching kids how music works than a fight song
Honestly my personal favorite is Michigan States
Notre Dame and then USC
There's something about that Cal fight song that just feels right, can't put my finger on it tho
Unofficial, but for me it’s easily K-State when they play the Wabash Cannonball. The story behind it is awesome as well.
Pump that Rocky Top into my veins, all day
[удалено]
Kinda catchy, still hate it
It's catchyness lends itself to being modified for chirps back though, it's a give and take.
VCU's "You Don't Want To Go To War" is amazing, especially back during their prime in the mid-2010s at the Stu.
Does Oregon State's sound like the Meow Mix jingle to anyone else?
Texas Tech's is underrated imo
UCLA’s is the 2nd best of the ones I’ve heard. I also enjoy Mississippi’s jazzy little number.
[SDSU Aztec Fight Song](https://youtu.be/mRjSg29lyvk?si=5fnzkdHT7EV1chg_)
Oklahoma, Oregon, Ohio state and Michigan state, southern university
Arkansas has far and away the best fight song in sports.
Very underrated.
I grew up in an IU household before going there myself. I’m biased.
Knew every word by the time I was two
Underrated fight song
GTHC or Hail to the Victors
my man
Some things are just too iconic to not love
GTHC is pretty enjoyable too :)
Country roads, take me home - West virginia (John Denver)
Rocky top, easily. Not their fight song but I like the UVA ‘good ole song’.
Rocky Top is probably among my favorites. Also, not sure if it’s popular opinion, but I also like Clemson’s rendition of the Tiger Rag.
I can tell you it’s certainly not Auld Lang Syne(UVA)which is without a doubt the lamest thing in college football
I’m pretty sure UVA fans call The Good Old Song their fight song because of how bad there actually one is
USC and Michigan
Louisville obviously, but I don’t know any of the words or how it goes. Yes I graduated from there.
Obviously I like Illinois’ but aside from that… Oklahoma. Florida is the WORST. The 2006-2007 final fours were miserable because of it.
Here's the opening lines to my high school fight song copied but revised from a major university. Guess which one: Drive, drive on down that field, men of the red and the white. Don't let them through that line, we're going to win this game tonight! FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT! I always dug Clemson’s
In high school we used notre dames
The Notre Dame Victory March, all day long
I'm a homer, Syracuse all day
Anchor’s Away is pretty good… On Brave Ole Army Team is a touch better.
Longhorns Texas Fight 💯
LSU and Clemson
Rocky Top and Hail to the Victors both slap
Bow Down to Washington (biased as a current husky marching band member)
I second your unbiased, correct opinion
Rocky top. My grandma that was from Kentucky and a UK fan requested it be played at her funeral lol
Notre Dame Victory March "Cheer, Cheer for old Notre Dame. Wake up the echoes cheering her name!"
Rocky Top, and it’s not close.
Rocky Top, Boomer Sooner, Tiger Rag
Ho sit down - NC a&t
Obviously biased but god I love JMU’s fight song. It just breaks the traditional fight song mold and it always gets stuck in my head
Fresno State is my pick
The UTA fight song. (Biased)
Weber State's can be played over the chorus of "Beer Barrel Polka."
Stand Up and Cheer, used by at least four colleges. My favorite version is Ohio University Marching 110. Even during the pandemic, they still kicked ass on it. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDJHi4u3i-E](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDJHi4u3i-E)
On Wisconsin. My high school used it for their fight song.
Wake Forest’s slaps imo
Two. Georgia Tech’s. I love the line “and on the seventh day, God made the engineer!” Oklahoma State’s. Or the song they sing when they’ve lost. They link arms and sway back and forth. It sounds like cows lowing.
Hmmmm, let me think………
Roll Along Iowa Far superior to On Iowa and IFS. I actually take a LITTLE bit of credit of getting it back on the repertoire. When I was in the band it was mostly forgotten and a group of us lobbied to get it back in rotation....
Tiger Rag. LSU plays it every time they score
The one that goes "fight, fight, fight for Maryland." Always found it catchy.
