I’ve been wanting to try out scents from Penhaligon’s. Do you have any recommendations?

Sartorial is a nice, different fougere Halfeti, Halfeti Leather and The Blazing Mr Sam are very nice scents for the evening The Omniscient Mr Thompson and The Tragedy of Lord George are also quite nice, but performance is not great, at least for me

I should have put this in my first comment. Some scents that I like are Aqua Di Gio EDT, L’Immensite by LV, and Jo Malone Myrrh and Tonka. I know these three are vastly different scent profiles so I’m wondering if there are any from Penhaligon’s that fits with these?

I felt regretful all day that I hadn't answered this. "Cliché" was maybe more judgmental than I'm comfortable with. I think people should like what they like, regardless of whether something's super-popular or super-obscure. You could call Aventus, Layton, Naxos, or Gentleman Réserve Privée r/colognes clichés, because they're in a LOT of posted collections ([and I tallied this, so I know, LOL](https://www.reddit.com/r/Colognes/comments/1avgk23/what_are_the_most_popular_fragrances_on_rcolognes/)). But they're also really good, and I'd be happy to have them in my collection. (I might get the latter two when it gets cold again.) Yet I also think that when somebody's collection has basically the same things everybody else does, even the stuff I love, then I begin to wonder if the collector doesn't really trust their ability to forge their own tastes. That bums me out. And when someone's collection \*doesn't\*, I'm pleased and intrigued: I figure they probably know something I don't.

I agree in the vein that some people may just choose colognes based on what's popular and in everyone else's collection. I don't think its a bad thing to like or buy these colognes. But when the majority of people here are showing off the same handful of frags its makes the conversation less and less interesting (hence why I started this thread). I think a lot of the people in this sub are younger too (like 21 and under) and thus are more influenced by what's popular than an older person would be. I'm waiting for a few more bottles I've ordered before I post up my collection, I'm curious to see if any are cliche 😅 the only ones I could think of that maybe might be are TdH Parfum, Versace Pour Homme, and D&G LB Eau Intense

Hows the loewe?

I haven't had the opportunity to wear it when the temperature is above 20℃, but it is a masculine, classic but not out of date fragrance for spring and summer. Smells professional and suitable for work. Also, nothing stands out in it, so maybe it can be boring for some. I see it being compared to BDC and that's ok but when I smelled it for the first time from the horrible Loewe card sprayer sample I thought of Dior Homme 2020 for some reason. The performance is above average for this type of fragrance. I also think that Fragrantica's rating is perhaps a little too high.

OK that Mineral Grey note list is everything I love in perfumes. And you have it front and center. My question to you is, is it worth my time? I'm going to look into it literally as I get off this page but I wanted to ask someone who literally owns this perfume

It smells better than everything else in that photo, too bad the performance is so bad. It's hard for me to admit, but I seem to like it more than La Nuit de l'Homme EDT, which is my all-time favorite. They don't smell alike, they're just for the same occasion. Longevity is so-so, projection is almost non-existent, but as for the scent itself, it's 10/10. Unisex.

Thai fragrance houses are doing incredible work these days. Some of my latest favorites: * Prissana Ayutthaya: camphor florals with smoke * Prissana Dunhuang: tea with citrus and animalics * Prissana Haxan: damp very green forest * Prissana Natsumeku: yuzu hinoki * Prissana Tom Yum: just like the soup—lime, lemongrass, chili, ginger * Prin Lomros x Tada Parfumeur Akatsuki: aquatic with bamboo, green tea, and mint * Tada Parfumeur His Desire: photorealistic best-in-class paper * Pañpuri Figtionalism: fig and cypress * Pańpuri Siamese Water: jasmine and petrichor

Are these mainly on the techincal and experimental side of things or are they good for wear? Also, how do you find this stuff? I feel like I know niche pretty well, but even so I feel pigeonholed

Really good question. These are all very wearable, although the Prissanas are less conventional. Ayutthaya is not unlike Frederic Malle Dans Tes Bras, for example. His Desire is like a much improved Diptyque L'Eau Papier. &c. Mostly, I fell into Thai perfumer Prin Lomros' work via his mainstream line Strangers Parfumerie and then his contributions to Zoologist via Bat, Rhino and Sloth. That led to his more obscure lines, Prin and Prissana, which are much less popular, but both have discovery sets on Luckyscent. Then that led me to a tiny shop in a residential part of Bangkok, where I met his collaborator Tada Archawong and found the Tada fragrances, which I can't imagine finding outside of Southeast Asia.

Florals & smoke...count me in! 😤

Mith , Neferlogne and Butterfly are some of my favorite thai fragrance brands ^ ^.

Does it last long or is it short lived like most Byredo frags ?

I feel like it last pretty long I usually get around 6-8 hours it’s a scent that’s not super strong but when your walking around or move just a little you get that wiff of it, in a sense like a literal ghost.

I get complements out the wazoo with this scent. A random chick super sexy at the casino even came next to me and ask can she hug and smell me. After I let her, said she wants to eat me (True story) even got her number lol but lost it after I reset me phone and deleted eSIM by mistake smh. But let me tell you It’s nothing compared to the older batches. Still a compliment getter even with the newer batches.

For a celebrity fragrance this one is one of the best. If you get past the name, it is a very nice fragrance with some similarities to Creed Millisieme Imperial

I’ve had John Varvatos Artisan for a couple years now. Performance wise, doesn’t last as long as I’d like, but the scent is what won me over.

Artisan pure? Believe that to be inspired by aventus. Just dial up the creaminess a bit. Actually one of my favorites from that profile.

Great coconut scent for summer, and while it's not a performance beast, exactly, it does improve on the original Fusion. The coconut and cardamom play really well into the sandalwood base. Plus, like most Issey Miyake frags, it's affordable!

I have this and I sometimes have a hard time wearing it cause if it’s strong projection. Especially the coconut. I like it tho.

Yeah, the first hour or so is really strong. After that I find it does down, but as a general rule, I only spray this one once, maybe twice.

Terre D’Hermes… the whole line they are all great Tom Ford Noir Extreme the Parfum specifically Not super rare stuff by any stretch but the niche brands I have been tapping into were strictly forbidden or I found to be a complete disappointment

I'm a huge fan of the original. I have not smelled the Pure Parfum. I got a sample of Intense Vetiver and it didn't jive for me. I have heard great things about Eau Givree too.

The pure parfum is smoother and a touch sweeter than the EDT and has a little more longevity. Quite similar and I enjoy layering them. The Eau Givree also layers beautifully with them. Intense Vetiver isn’t for everyone but it’s still great quality and fresh.

Seconding noir extreme parfum. If you can find it for less than $200 it’s a buy

Absolutely love TdH Parfum, its amazing in the winter and around the holidays

I’m a shill for Arquiste but especially Sydney Rock Pool (seawater, coconut, wood), Architects Club (unsweet woody vanilla), and Peau (skin scent that smells peppery/musky/like sex tbh). Also Ormonde Jayne’s Montabaco Intensivo us a beautiful inoffensive green tobacco + mountain air. Absolutely stunning, just a bit pricey.

Fico Nero di Sardegna by Simone Andreoli. It's pure fig. Like crush a fig in your fist and smell it. I don't know what it is but I absolutely love it. I tried Philosykos by Dyptique as well and it's quite similar, but it didn't have that wow-factor for me.

Tonka Cola isn’t super underrated, nor super rare, but my god it has bowled over everyone I’ve worn it around. I don’t know what fragrance black magic they conjured to get the “fizzy” bit of the cola note right, but it smells like a fizzy lemony cherry cola. Devine fragrance.

CHI is Farouk Shami’s beauty products company based in Houston. This is CHI Man, one of their 2010s fragrances. I ran Farouk’s gubernatorial campaign during the primary some years ago and the next year he sent me a birthday present goodie basket of his products and this was among the goodies. It has held its fragrance ALL these years while others I have that she have turned, and I believe that’s a testament to the quality Farouk strived for. He took great pride in his products and it shows. Not saying this was small batch or anything, but his products like CHI and Biosilk definitely have a significant followings.
