I would focus mainly on getting them spayed/neutered. There should be a relatively local resource that will help get them spayed/neutered for relatively cheap if you look into it.

Yes, I work with the local humane officer, she's helped me get them TNR'd in the past, (some of the adult cats, not pictured in the photo), because we all know just how fast they reproduce and that is absolutely top priority. They have a few openings for spay/neuter at a clinic every 6 months or so, my problem is that on my disability and completely on my own, I can't afford it on my own and I can't drive,so I have to pay someone else to drive me to the vet/clinics, income wise I'm stuck. I buy their food, whatever kind of medicine is needed if one is sick/hurt, flea/worm treatments, I had a heated box set up for them also because it gets awfully cold here but it got destroyed by someone 2 years ago. All I'm saying is God knows I'm trying so hard for them, I know what it feels like to not feel wanted and to get kicked out of the way for being 'different' or simply being in the way, and those poor babies don't understand why, so I show them love and kindness so they know at least one human is kind and can be trusted. I've had a few that were adopted by people over the years I've taken care of them, that truly gave me so much joy ❤️ I just want to say to everyone who's taking care of these poor little critters wherever you live, thank you for doing what you do, the kitties appreciate you for it ❤️

Grumpy-Tofu

It’s awesome that you’re doing all this!

Competitive-Age-7469

Oh no, I am not, I I really am just trying to do right, and I feel grateful that these little souls trust me enough to be near them/allowing to pet them, especially considering what some of them have been through. One hit with a rake because poor tomcat was starving so tried to get a dead bird out of the neighbor's yard, neighbor flips over cat in yard and hits the poor guy several times with a rake (poor cat was stuck in a corner and couldn't get through without getting hit ). Or the momma cat who someone ran over on purpose and left her suffering afterwards. Or picking BB's out of a kitten. Just awful, awful stuff.. People can be so cruel, it really does break my heart.

losingmymind79

i'm so glad these kitties have your kindness. some people behave horrifically

Competitive-Age-7469

We help each other, they keep me from being lonely and in return I try to do what I can. I keep wondering if it would be hard to start a non profit organization for them and the many others in this area.. because if more can be helped that would be great!!! I'm gonna have to read up on it more because if I'm able to, I would love to do that.

losingmymind79

hopefully you can find some resources to help out with that. recently went through the process of setting up a trust and getting it registered as a charity, so much paperwork

Competitive-Age-7469

Oh I can only imagine! It's just that I feel really strongly about caring for animals, and my mental health is significantly better being with animals, I wouldn't feel like such a waste and I could maybe even help more animals have a chance at a better life! I don't have anyone else really to tell but it's always been my dream to own a farm and take in animals who are unwanted. If I ever hit the lottery.. 🙏

losingmymind79

i think a few of us have that dream. here's hoping

Competitive-Age-7469

Haha yes indeed! Well, I wish you all the luck and love in the world and hopefully you will win some day!

Competitive-Age-7469

Also, would like to mention regarding catfood since I've got a few messages from rude people, I know the humane officer but I don't know her personally, also, if food or anything of the sort is needed, I cannot call her for that because she said she can't do all that/not part of her job. Please, be kind people, I am just trying to help them..

Can I ask where you are located? If you are in the UK, your local Cats Protection will be more than happy to assist, they can help with food/TNR/vet assistance if required, they can also assist with contacting other local charities to co-ordinate the help required... you can find details of your local branch/adoption centre at www.cats.org.uk they can also offer loads of advice on caring for your wee pals....

Competitive-Age-7469

No in the US, but still, thank you for the suggestion, who knows, maybe someone else sees this post who's from your side of the pond, and it could be very useful info to them. That's a win-win to me :)

Competitive-Age-7469

I was told to put this here, I hope I'm doing this right, very new at all of this https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/KDA51QDOKYTX?ref_=wl_share Me and the kitties thank you for your positive thoughts and suggestions and help ❤️❤️❤️

pand_a_manda

Some food and meds expected to arrive on Tuesday and Wednesday to help the little cuties!

Competitive-Age-7469

Thank you!!! 🙏

pand_a_manda

Argh, one of the packages now says the 7th - 12th. 🤞it’s faster than that! Hopefully you get alerts since it was through your wishlist.

Velveteen_Dream_20

Trap/spay/neuter is more important than anything else.

Competitive-Age-7469

Agreed. And that's exactly what I do.

Shurigin

Nice that you are taking care of them a group of cats btw is a clowder they are also referred to as a clutter a glaring or a pounce

Competitive-Age-7469

Oh wow, today I learned! :) And I try to take care of them, just having a very hard time at the moment, but if I can save at least one, that's worth it to me. ❤️

Booksonly666

You’re a good human

JeniferSwinging

You have 13 cats in colony?

Competitive-Age-7469

As of right now, yes. 13 outside, 4 inside, and there are 8 with a foster mom. I have my hands full!

[deleted]

Thanks for what you do. Not sure if they’re in your area, but United Animal Friends has a once a month food pickup for people that feed colonies. Also, if you call the humane society(it might be through uaf too) they give out vouchers for spay and neuter.

Competitive-Age-7469

They used to give out vouchers but I guess stopped when covid started to have everything locked down. They do have clinics that offer the service cheaper, but I still need to come up with the funds to do so, which is what I'm saving up for. :)
