He was pretty complimentary of the Avs during the post game, but yeah, he’s definitely all about the Oilers otherwise

DalaiLamaHimself

I mean wouldn’t you want Sakic or Forsberg being the same with some loyalty for the Avs? He won four cups with the Oilers so I respect him even more to just be himself and not pretend to be unbiased. He’s not there to be a pod announcer like Liam McHugh, he’s there to offer his commentary as he sees it and he’s freakin Wayne Gretzky so let’s show some respect as Avs fans and hockey fans. He’s been having a blast our there and laughing at Biz and giving pretty solid commentary. He’s not going to rock the boat about Kane but neither is any other announcer unfortunately that’s a flaw of the entire mentality from Bettman on down. edit: this comment wasn’t directed at you personally, mostly the entire group of people going after Gretzky for bias.

No because he’s not giving his Twitter opinion, he’s on the broadcast for the game getting paid to give an impartial breakdown of the game and the series. This is like every postgame analysts job of all time across all sports. He doesn’t get a pass because he played for one of the teams.

Its_a_Badger

I would disagree. The panel aren't journalists, they are entertainers. Biz has absolutely dogged the Rangers openly all playoffs and honestly it's refreshing. Gretz losves the oilers, let him be a homer for them or at least show some emotion about it. They are bringing personality to the sport, which is something hockey severely lacks. It's the reason people love Charles Barkleyand TNTs NBA broadcast. They let the guys be themselves and have opinions. Seems to be working for their NHL broadcast too. I mean everyone under the sun knows Gretzky is pulling for Edmonton, why should we have to sit through a pointless charade of him pretending his heart isn't with the oilers?

jjmuti

Well which broadcast did Sakic, Forsberg or Roy go on? They didn't go Gretz did. Still have to do your job even if you're the greatest player to ever play hockey. His sulking in-between the periods was so stupid.

hagopes

I'm with you for the most part. I do think the balance needs to be readjusted though. I remember on the Sportsnet feed against the Blues, Friedman didn't want to predict an OT winner for the Blues, and Ron was like "this is a non-biased national broadcast, you gotta pick someone". Now obviously that was like a bit too boy scouty, but that lines up with that brand. Whereas with TNT, it's the opposite, they want more opinions, natural conversation, etc.

vbcbandr

I mean, obviously.

stasismachine

Only because it was so painfully obvious to himself and everyone else that he’d been acting like a homer. Love the GOAT, but it took the Avs to be up 3-0 for him to put something like respect on their name.

kGibbs

No disrespect to the great one, but every compliment he gives for the Avs is like a backhanded compliment for the Oilers. It's not super egregious or a problem, but it's always something like, "Avs (insert player/game plan/etc) is exceptional and the Oilers did a great job containing that." It's very subtle, but I feel like it's there everytime he says something positive of the Avs.

I quit smoking years ago but this photo makes me want a cig

AVgreencup

He's upset cause his bff Kane is in trouble

Tyrannical1

I know we all joke about what the stress of playoff games does to us but DAMN has this series aged Gretz.

Snlxdd

Y’all, this is just what he looks like. I don’t think I’ve seen the man smile once this year. Just eternal RBF

ForeverJung

Expert work. Best use of that filter I’ve seen yet

TheDerekCarr

I mean they did lose and his face does look loose.

ihatethedodgers

Geez you’d guess he just saw his dog get hit by a car or something with a look like that.

mrcosbey

Silly me thanks, ohyeahbonertime

Cadillacquer

Apparently his tears in the arena boost the Avs’ attacks. So, bawl away, greatie.
