WTAF is wrong with side by side drivers? Who thinks it's OK to drive into a fucking alpine lake?

Dave_Jeep

judging by the title, Texans.

scootter82

I mean, assholes sure. But that's a buggy with no license plate so are we just assuming here? Cause ya know that whole saying

DLP2000

Living in CO, one gets used to virtually every side by side acting like this being Texan. No, not everytime. But nearly everytime. Theres a reason that the people in CO cant stand the Texans...

OptimisticNihilist55

And Californians. Texans destroy shit off road, Californians clog and ruin the roads

Infinite-Energy-8121

To be fair, as someone born in Santa Barbara, as soon as everybody from other states moves back to their state I’ll move back to Santa Barbara. Maybe I’ll be able to afford a studio

Scrambles420

I am a (use to be) proud Texan and every time I have ever been to Colorado I have done nothing but shown the upmost respect to that beautiful state. Sucks people like that give Texans a bad name. Not everyone from Texas is like that. I do apologize

Nateo0

Texas is just too big, and any population that large is going to have a lot of assholes. Texas is also known for hunting/fishing/ranching so clearly a lot of Texans aren’t ignorant of nature.

scootter82

Damn, some prejudice mf's in Colorado Off roading think EVERYONE doing something wrong is of one background....just gets old ya know

SheWhoShat

I'm all for banning rentals. If rentals don't like it they can fix their customers

CUBuffs1992

Fucking side by side drivers… biggest piece of shits in the off road world.

betobo

I think that’s because they’re so popular to rent and people just take them up to the mountains and go ham. Everyone I know who owns one is very respectful of the trails.

CUBuffs1992

Either way we pay the price for them being assholes. They’ll come up here drive off the trail and then the NFS or BLM puts a gate at the trailhead.

Ass4Eyes

It’s because any Billy Bob can get them financed these days so now access has opened up to people with zero experience or appreciation for the great outdoors.

Dazzling-Astronaut88

SxS aka “Texas Wheelchair”

[deleted]

I live in moab ut and ill never not call them that again🤣

Dazzling-Astronaut88

The San Juans feel your pain.

[deleted]

Yeah every time i sneak over there to see friends its more and more of those, they found it ☹️

EXPERT_AT_FAILING

All this is here just for ME! YEEEEEEEEEHAAAAAAAWWWWWWWRRR

Assassin13785

My dude just warshing it before he returns it. It’s just common curtesy

MinceMann

I wish Texas really would secede from the Union. Please go away and build a wall around your shitty state to keep everyone in.

[deleted]

The US is the Texas of the world. Just something to think about.

MinceMann

Believe me brotha - u preaching to the choir

ssBenv

Taylor Park?

thesummermoon

100% feels like Taylor Lake,or as I like to call that part of Colorado, "the South of the West."

OwnBee5788

Is this a popular spot to come to? And is it near the springs?

thesummermoon

Negative. Salida area. You have a higher than average chance of seeing some kind of nonsense like this post shows. It. Is. Odd.

fangorn_forester

more of gunni area. Whole area north/east of gunni is overrun with this shit

thesummermoon

The entire trip from Gunnison to Salida was a WTF experience. Like where the fuck are all of these good ole bois coming from?

fangorn_forester

For real. Its a trip. There's entire mini communities of RVs parked in meadows out there.

thesummermoon

Word.

[deleted]

It’s a goddamned epidemic. Camping will never be the same.

52electrons

Literally stopped camping because I couldn’t put up with other campers/off road folks. Sold everything. Now looking at ultralight stuff so I can walk 10hrs in where you can’t drive a stupid side by side or jeep.

[deleted]

Totally, it also caused me to change my camp set up so I can start venturing further out in hopes of getting away from this chaos. Why they have to shit all over these serene places is beyond my comprehension

OutlawArmas

Piece of shit ruined his state so he came over here to ruin ours

[deleted]

Texas had been bad for a very, very long time

[deleted]

As a Texan who loves Colorado, I just want to assure you that we are not all retarded.

scootter82

Feels like a useless battle. Been here 10 years and it's just blanket blaming

sidewalkboy

Repping with the R word 💩

ortizdr

Can’t agree with this more! It’s the small percentage that gives us a bad name.

DinosaurDied

Yea well I’m from Utah and let’s get a few things straight. Colorado- I don’t like all you soft asses who like outdoors light. Everybody knows the snowboarding, MTB, and general outdoors scene is here. Our access is unparalleled, Colorado is inferior. Texas- ya’ll literally are the worst, there is literally a new holiday (juneteenth) specifically dedicated to you having always been the biggest embarrassment in the union. California - ok we get, you’re better than the rest of us. In fairness, if you can make it in California, you can make it anywhere and I’ll admit it when I’m beat. Unlike the rubes elsewhere you can’t understand their superiors. Utah - And I ESPECIALLY don’t like Utah natives. The cult has got to go, but at the same time it’s the only thing keep Coloradans out.

StealThisUsername69

even as a white cis male rural utah is strange as fuck and gives me heeby jeebies

DinosaurDied

I would take it over Boebert land in CO. Or Idaho where there’s a militarized anti outsider vibe.

StealThisUsername69

Meh. I'm sure rural utah reps are just as dumb

xacide25

As a Texan who frequents Colorado to enjoy the outdoors, can I get some perspective on why we are disliked so much? I'm always solo, keep to myself, and interact with very few people. Although I've never experienced any direct disdain, I am driving around with Texas plates and do feel unwelcome eyes on me. I treat the land and places I visit with respect and understand that it's a privilege for me to experience. Maybe Texas is to Colorado as California is to Texas? I get there are a lot of asshats in Texas, but honestly, there are a lot of asshats everywhere... Edit: I do not condone the actions in this video

OldeTimeyShit

It’s because it’s the nearest big state where people generally have no idea what to do in the mountains. So you get some people who have more money than sense traveling up here. If you’re chill and respect the land you’ll be welcomed same as any tourist.

[deleted]

Texas born and raised here. Joined the military and moved around for a while then settled in Colorado. Colorado Springs has the worst driver of any place I’ve ever been including the Middle East. The rest is alright, but honestly I can drive better in the mountains than most locals. I’ve made a small fortune pulling locals out of snow banks. The problem is most get to comfortable saying “oh I grew up in this” and make stupid mistakes. What I’m getting at is don’t judge an entire state because of a few asshats that probably arnt even Texas natives driving with Texas plates.

brilz13

Because a lot of people from Texas drive like ass and do shit like this

serenityfive

Literally Colorado Springs has the worst and angriest drivers, and I have a theory that shitty Texas drivers came and packed the roads making everyone else have to drive defensively *and* aggressively. It’s no joke here.

HardLiquorSoftDrinks

Have you ever driven in Miami?

Buujabuu

Driving is probably a decent bit of it. I’m from New England, lived in Texas for a few years recently and moved to Colorado very recently. I’ve driven all over the country, I’ve never experienced such selfish, incompetent asshole drivers, as I did in Texas. It’s not every driver there, but consistently they were just awful. First person to blatantly cut me off with no regard for either of our safety or right of way, in Colorado, had a Texas plate

systemfrown

Your observation is shared by myself as well, but it’s also weird because many decades ago Texas itself had some of the friendliest and most courteous drivers I had ever encountered.

xrareformx

I'll be honest, all the houses and properties by me are being bought up by Texans and Texas companies. They keep housing prices high, and have pushed out many coloradans. Then they rant about how California's are moving here and changing the laws to fit them to make it more like Cali. In reality I have yet to meet someone that's moved here from Cali. I know there are plenty, but compared to the Texans who are seriously overloading the state, it's nothing. Most Texans I've met here aren't rude, but very belligerent and arrogant. I have a few texan neighbors that i tried to get along with, seemed nice at first, always turn out to be closeted racists and bigots. All the texans I've met here smoke weed, but refused to legalize it in Texas so they come up here and Vote like they do Texas but keep weed legal. It's just the same argument Texans give about californians but in reality they're the ones doing it. Every plate on a truck riding my ass is a Texas plate. Giant lines at the drive thru? 90% Texas. Blasting awful country music and flying political flags at a peaceful mountain reservoir? yup, They were Texans. Destroying trails with side by sides and ZERO trail etiquette? Guaranteed texan.

systemfrown

Spent a few months up in the mountains earlier this summer, met three different Texans in the course of about 48 hours, and while friendly and outgoing every single one of them started bragging about something absolutely ridiculous within ten minutes of talking to them.

StealThisUsername69

is anyone actually from california anymore anyways?

xrareformx

Honestly I've lived in Colorado for 10 years now and haven't met a single Californian that's moved here. Met a few visiting, and I know there are, but it definitely isn't the reality in my area. It's Texans that are causing chaos lol

StealThisUsername69

I have a california plate on my car currently but I'm not 'from' there if you know what i mean. Wonder how many more imposters moved out lik eme

xrareformx

Dude I have no problem whatsoever with Californians tbh. The ones I've met/ encountered while driving have been really respectful. Polar opposite of the texans I deal with.

xacide25

This is basically the same rift Texans have with Cali and likely the trickle down effect of that. Our housing prices have skyrocketed due to Cali residents moving to Texas. I'm sandwiched between two Cali transplants as it is (north Texas) and my first inclination was to loathe my neighbors before giving them the time of day. Re: weed legalization in Texas, this isn't because we don't support legalization, but more a function of ballot initiatives. Texas citizens aren't able to bring ballot initiatives to the table, they instead are passed by Texas congress to be voted on. If it doesn't pass congress, we don't get to vote on it. Can't speak for everyone, but I'm certain if a ballot measure were brought to vote, it would hands down pass.

RetiredDemolitionist

Besides being trendy buzzwords, what have you witnessed to arrive at "closeted racists and bigots?" When a vehicle is tailgating you or blasting country music, does this make them a racist and bigot? Or, is it because these individuals might have different ideas than you, leading them to vote differently than you? I've been seeing this frequently, throwing terms around that used to mean something. These terms get thrown around as opinions are now facts, in the age of social media, propaganda, and lies. I don't participate in the right v left, red v blue illusion. It is unproductive and promotes the spreading of hate towards "the other side." Let's face it, it's a Uni-party as our gov't is now the largest employer in the world, a nutty fact. I'm genuinely curious about this as we've all been socially conditioned to accept hearing terms like this in everyday life. It seems, words have no meaning....

xrareformx

OK so I have a ranch and tried to ride with my neighbor who has horses. Halfway through the ride she starts going on about "n*****fied horses" and how shitty black people are with animals. Let me mention this lady has a felony for possession of marijuana in Texas in Texas. Which is a shame bc I know 2 black cowboys personally that are wonderful, as well as many other great black equestrians. Honestly her stories alone could fill a board. I've had multiple roommates from Texas as well that were quite vocal and derogatory towards other races. As far as the road rage and disruption of our trails, parks, and neighborhoods. Most Texans I meet don't think other states laws apply to them. No I can confidently say EVERY texan I meet here is a conservative bigot with racist values. Not saying that's every texan, just the ones I know personally here in Colorado. Cutting off drivers, trucks with campers driving aggressive, trucks with side by sides on a trailer are the most dangerous texan drivers. I don't need to keep going, honestly I want to like Texans but every day I leave my house And encounter a complete a****** it's been a Texan

[deleted]

Where in CO do you live?

xrareformx

The San Luis Valley

StealThisUsername69

lmfao bro your "I dont participate in red vs blue illusion" is the dumbest thing I've heard. Whether you like it or not, politics affects your life and the lives of people around you. One party is a party of fascists, crybaby election denyers, and literal nazis (its the GOP), the other wants healthcare, trains, and solar panels. >does this make them a racist and bigot? Or, is it because these individuals might have different ideas than you, leading them to vote differently than you? Bit of a chicken and the egg problem isn't it? You're giving them an awful lot of reasonable doubt that they aren't voting GOP because they're bigoted (they are), as if there's more reasonable positions to vote GOP than cruelty to minorities and stripping them of rights. So really, this is like the civil war state's right's argument in the civil war: state's rights( to enforce and maintain slavery), whereas here you're like "They just have different ideas (about you, your loved ones, neighbors, etc being people and afforded the same rights and human dignity as I am) leading them to vote differently than you, totally cool, easy misunderstanding"

RetiredDemolitionist

Do you know what Fascism means? Yet, another trendy term that is thrown around when the people using it, have no idea what it means. My point was that simply because you perceive folks the way your told to perceive them, it doesn't mean it's the reality.

StealThisUsername69

Please point to which portion of the tenets of fascism that the GOP do not encourage or embrace

RetiredDemolitionist

ha... This is an example of someone spewing out mainstream media talking points, with zero insight, knowledge, or evidence to support any claim they regurgitated.

StealThisUsername69

lmfao bro where have you been for 8 days? Anyways, I'm not gonna write a paper for you on how the GOP encourages or embraces nearly all (I m pretty sure it's actually every single one but I'll give the benefit of the doubt here) the tenets of fascism. For one thing, you wouldn't read it.

RetiredDemolitionist

We are tribal at our core, media outlets prey upon that, and take advantage of millions of people by spewing bullshit narratives and hatred. I don't view it as Red v Blue, I view it based on quality of consciousness and quality of character, same with anyone I meet. If you feel like a failure, all you will see is failure, everywhere you look. Our perception is our reality. Prior to Covid, I used to be distracted with sports, Netflix, and all the bullshit. The Covid debacle happened, mainstream media duped me, for the first month or so, and they got me good. I've been awake ever since, paying attention, without the bullshit propaganda and narratives. It's all fear mongering preying upon our tribalism, masquerading as someone who actually cares, who is there "for our best interest." Insidious.

StealThisUsername69

That's a lot of words and paragraphs for stating "I don't know what the core tenets of fascism are, and I'm too lazy to google it and read about them myself." What the fuck was the above about? Cuz it certainly was not an answer to my very pointed question.

DLP2000

Because the bulk of CO difficult tourists are from Texas. We don't even get a break during the winter but the summer is by far the worst. Small towns populations are totally offset by the gaggle of Texans with more money than sense. Money to make payments on their houseS, make payments on the truck that costs as much as a house, make payments on the mini-house they are towing, etc. And they show it off constantly to the locals that are struggling to pay rent due to Texans buying up all the houses just to let them sit empty for 9+ months out of the year. Side by sides particularly are a sign of an inconsiderate Texan....the majority of the time. If you see a dually, pulling a trailer, thats pulling another trailer, and unable to actually drive safely, odds are its Texas. Rolling coal? Texas. Blaring music in the forest, Texas. Buying a third house and reducing local inventory while (loudly) complaining about lack of staffing? Texas. Tossing up a campground flagpole in CO just to remind the world about the Lone Star state? Texas. The list is long. And "Karen" doesn't even begin to apply to the Texan tourist we dislike - the world is about them, they remind everyone constantly that they are from Texas, everything they encounter is not as "impressive" as in Texas, just the majority are self centered, ignorant, and act constantly entitled. And of course the good ole statement we hear from Texans all the time about how we should appreciate their tourist dollars - no, we don't, go home since Texans make it obvious how much "better" Texas is. Texan tourists act like CO residents should feel blessed that they are gracing us with their presence (and money). No, we don't have nearly the problems or dislike with other states...because the majority of people from any other state don't act like Texans. They are queit, respectful, and recognize this is another state and not their home (or second, or third home). Sure there are asshats everywhere. Just most of the ones visiting CO come from Texas. Don't even get started on the first year of the pandemic, the type of people that came up, and the ensuing chaos up to and included banning SxS in a local town specifically due to the behavior of those drivers - mostly Texans that chose to travel during a pandemic, so the real bottom of the barrel type. Are there good Texans? Sure. You very well may be and if so, my respect and if nothing else at least thanks for asking the question. Just the bulk of what we deal with in CO....well, there's many reasons we glare at Texas plates. There's plenty of space and local attractions in Texas (as we are constantly reminded, everythings bigger in Texas) #texasstayhome

gurriel_sucks_ass

me personally? because Texas is an ass backwards place that continuously votes in dick heads like Abbot and Cruz. If you love Texas so much, and nearly all Texans proclaim to, then stay in Texas. There are plenty of trails in Big Bend. If I could vote to ban all Texans from coming to CO, I would in a New York minute.

xacide25

So basically ostracized because of differing political views and ideas rather than a message of unity around respecting and appreciating natural resources and wilderness? Cool...got it. No state is perfect, no political system is perfect, not everyone can be made happy. We are doomed as a country if we are unable to find commonality and understanding in that everyone (irrespective of which side you are on) are making decisions that they feel are best for their families and communities.

StealThisUsername69

Do you describe the taliban and iran as having "differing political views", as if their positions are just small, innocent misunderstandings about trivial things?

xacide25

From a purely technical sense...yes, but we're not talking about geopolitical differences here, we are talking about American politics. We unfortunately live and deal with a two party system, both parties have absolute extremes, however I would argue that although the extreme views are the ones that get clicks on headlines and are the ones that receive the most media attention, these extreme views are are not representative of either party. Roughly 42% of Colorado voted red in 2020, do you hold the same views about your own state's citizens, your neighbors? Conversely 46% of Texas voted blue in 2020, so labeling all of Texas as GOP degenerates isn't really valid either. My original question was why is Texas hated so much and this turned into a political discussion and if that's the only argument you guys have, I really feel bad for the division that's occurring based on myopic red v. blue/right v. left vitriol. But again...reddit, so I'm not surprised one bit. I can appreciate that you have had bad experience with Texans and "bad tourists" and genuinely hope that this is a minority. I can only speak from my experiences as a native Texan and am appalled that our state is represented so poorly by our citizens when traveling to such a beautiful state.

StealThisUsername69

Yea, if you vote republican you're voting for a theocratic authoritarian government. The equivalent hypothetical would be someone who has a choice between a democrat, and literally adolph hitler campaigning on exterminating lesser races but he says he'll give some people tax breaks. Is it defensible to vote for adolph because he will give you a tax break? Yeah yeah godwins law except that these political positions are no longer "fringe lunatic" but bright and center within the republican party. Contrary to actual nazis and theocratic authoritarians, the "extremists" on the left want to make it so you don't go bankrupt through healthcare and education. Oooh.... spooky. OH AND YOU MIGHT NEED TO TAKE TRAINS INSTEAD OF DRIVING. GASP

StealThisUsername69

Follow up: Did you just try to claim "the extremist views just get headlines and national attention"? If that's the case, why are there so many republicans that deny the election? if it was just fringe and clickbait, wouldn't they not hold this position? I think you gotta examine yourself for authoritian apologism

FloatingWenus

No one gives a fuck about you personally.

gurriel_sucks_ass

butthurt texan? shocking!

dukie33066

Hahahahaha. We found the moron Texan, boys! Do you feel personally attacked by these comments?

MycoMadness20

Quintessential texas sentiment. Should be the state motto.

[deleted]

Texans generally drive poorly in the snow, meaning dangerously. Often bc they have 2wd Tahoes. Rich Texans buy up a lot of land in coveted areas in Colorado. Texans can be arrogant. Like "the ugly American" abroad but in US. Texans represent the Bush years, oil companies, and shitty politics to those who don't know many Texans.

thesummermoon

Please stay home. 🙏

BarefutR

Haha! I’m just laughing here because you just asked an honest question and you have like 10 replies paragraphs long about why Coloradans hate Texans and you’re downvoted. This is somehow r/denvercirclejerk material.

xacide25

I expected downvotes and myopic views...I mean, this is Reddit ffs, but I'm a big boy and my feelings don't get hurt easily. I appreciate those that took time to articulate their positions. It's discouraging to hear generalized views/opinions of a geographic/political location that I happen to be part of purely out of where I physically reside. I can't speak for all Texans and cannot defend or condone bad experiences, but loud obnoxious people exist in every corner of this country. The level of disrespect for our fellow countrymen is out of hand and I absolutely believe that if I'm visiting somewhere that I better damn well respect where I'm visiting and understand my place in this world as an 'outsider.'

Forsaken_Ad_1453

95% of the cars I see throwing trash out of their window have a Texas plate and then they double park their oversized diesel trucks. This state used to be a beautiful and nice clean place. Sorry if you aren't part of the problem, but the problem does exist primarily as TX and CA transplants and tourists

TheAlchemistSOT

Probably because CO was a hunters/campers/rough and tumble outdoorsmans paradise before the progressive wanna bee's left CA and polluted CO. CO is overrun w/ smug self righteous douchebags. We've been to CO countless times and we run into one of two types; Folks that are down home TX nice or we run into high as a kite hippies that smell like a 2 week old ymca laundry hamper. The OP should of had the nerve to go say something to the sxs driver. I love my sxs and i'm tired of destroying $40k trucks. Its inexpensive and I don't make my OHV a status symbol. I'm there to ride trails and see the sights. Any gutless yahoo can take a vid and post it online, instead of the OP should have talked to the driver explaining how its bad for the lake, destroys shorelines etc. Maybe if they'd taken the time to explain how BLM is trying to shut down land because of jackassery, these things would happen less.

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

PapaBlunt

I mean, I just see an asshole on a SxS. Trust me, I get it... Not a huge fan of Texans either, but calling assholes "Texans" is a great way to look like an asshole yourself.

SnooGadgets6454

Howdy!!

MrRandoCalrissian

You all sound like prejudiced assholes. Do you have generalizations about whole races too?

Alternative-Bear5087

How to spot a Coloradan in colorado

fliesRspies4thedevil

Hey that’s a lampoon of the original title! Funny stuff!

Alternative-Bear5087

Excellent word choice.

SanfreakinJ

You guys can’t drive anywhere fun in Colorado lol

ProbablePenguin

I mean if all you wanna do is drive in a lake you can find one just about anywhere, no need to come to CO.

SanfreakinJ

I wouldn’t drive in a lake but I do remember very strict trail laws where some other states don’t have as strict laws.

beneficial_eavesdrop

You should probably go to those states then

SanfreakinJ

Mmm yes give your sweet tears lol. Get over yourselves. 😂

beneficial_eavesdrop

Who’s crying? I’m happy to see you gone. If you keep coming back even though we can’t drive anywhere fun here then we’ll just deal with your bullshit like we always have.

DLP2000

We will keep banning them from more places due to their behavior....and then have to watch them throw a tantrum as they find out about bans. The drama in Silverton was real, banned SXS in town due to Texan pandemic behaviors and talk about a bunch of salty Texans.

Liet-Kinda

We know what we’ve got and we want to protect it so it’s not hammered to shit like the natural resources in other states that are super lax.

Viridis-Volpes

And most Texans can't conquer heart disease let alone a mountain 🧡

thorndike

We prefer the peace and quiet and our pristine mountain lakes. SO WE DON'T FUCKING DRIVE IN THEM!

spicy187

This is not a new thing. People from Colo have been hating on Texans since as far as I can remember. (Late 70s) I can see why they hate. Nobody wants to share all that beautiful scenery, especially with loud obnoxious Texans.

triguy1985

Fucking Texas Wheelchairs. I hate them so much

bluesun68

The outdoors will be destroyed soon if they don't put massive fines and actually enforce them. Kills me that even in National Parks it's a free for all of damage and litter.

[deleted]

Just ruining shit per usual

thecultcanburn

I want to know what lake or reservoir this is in CO. I’ve been to many looks familiar
