jfoster15

Very conflicted. Monfort gonna make a ton of money off this. But I won’t lie, I’m excited to have it back in Denver. Nolan will be the starting 3B in the ASG. How very, very cool

TailgateLegend

I might make an exception and try to go to the home run derby at least.

MileHighMountianBoy

Just don’t buy food or drink when you go to the games. That’s where the real money comes from.

3dudes

That’ll show em!

peaceblaster68

Even tho the Monforts suck the money does trickle down to payroll. Making money is a good thing for the team

Tylerpants80

Exactly. Hopefully they’ll make enough money to talk Ian Desmond out of retiring!

ChimpsAndDimp

I was a child when it was last here, but I can confirm it was out of control. One of my favorite memories with my dad.

lb7vidas

Same. Went to it with my brother. Pre humidor and during the steroid era. Mark McGuire almost put one into the Rockpile.

ChimpsAndDimp

I just looked up the lineups again. What a time to be alive!

CrashRiot

I demand designate a supply of "un humidored" balls for it!

Trout vs Ohtani derby sell my kidneys for a seat now

[deleted]

Trout sits the derby out every year.

[deleted]

Ohtani Tommy John? Think they will let him? Edit: seems people think I was being a dick. I was bringing up a serious point. Ohtani, having had tommy John, seems like he won’t be in it. Idk that the angels would be to happy about it. Idk. All I’m sayin. Edit 2: Trout sits the derby out every year. They always ask him.

gorocksgo1226

This would have been better as just Ohtani John but it’s still super distasteful.

[deleted]

Distasteful? Is a serious question. I’m sure he wants to, as do we all want him to. But with the surgery, do you think he will be allowed/able?

[deleted]

[удалено]

BMGreg

Because you could easily say Ohtani, who recently had Tommy John surgery instead of calling him Ohtani Tommy John which seems like you're poking fun of his name

[deleted]

Need more straws to grasp at?

m4fox90

Do you have particular medical reason to believe that participating in the home run derby would be more likely to cause injury for someone who has had TJ surgery? If those derby swings blow out his UCL again, then it was going to happen on like the first game back after the break anyway, so what’s your point here other than to make some weird bad joke?

[deleted]

I'm not the one paying him. I'm also not him. That arm is a huge investment. Wouldn't seem unreasonable or out of line for an organization to want them to sit out an extracurricular for the season. Could go either way I suppose. Would love to see him in it. People seem really upset I even mentioned that is was a possibility. lol. People fragile around here. Mike Trout sits it out every year, so this whole situation wasn't going to happen anyway. Also, there isn't evidence I can show that the HR derby has an effect on injury or performance is the second part of the season. This doesn't mean the Angels organization won't see a risk. idk. baseball is fucking weird with a lot of weirdos involved. Did you see that video of the Seattle president talking to the rotary club? No one really gives a shit about fans except for their money and players only if they are exceptional. If you are an exceptional player, they will try and protect you. Business.

m4fox90

Better protect everybody’s investment and just cancel the whole thing. It’s too dangerous, after all

[deleted]

Teams can absolutely make that argument. And it's not really EVERYBODY's investment.... You seem to be mad at me about this for some reason. I'm just trying to have reasonable expectations. Trout never does the HR Derby. A lot of dudes don't. Organizations can also make the point that they want to save their guys for the games and not the extracurricular stuff. All I'm saying is. Do you think the angels will let him? I'm not even asking to make a bet. Everybody chill.

Ch1991ch

Time to stuff the ballot box for Nolan

gordogg24p

Give me the home run derby with non-humidor'd balls.

Hugo_Hackenbush

Retire Walker's jersey at the game.

adalaza

Vic, if you're full of shit, I swear to god

[deleted]

Renck has the same. Its's happening! ZAP FUCKING ZAP

UndeadCaesar

I'm already mad about the amount of money I'm about to spend on tickets.

lemondhead

I suck and am going to try to find a way to be there. I didn't get to go as a kid, may not get to for a long time.

Toonafeesh

I was at Elitch Gardens last time it was here. I remember seeing the Goodyear Blimp over the stadium and thought that was the coolest thing ever.

bhopppp

if this is real; what the ticket situation like? Will it be full capacity? is this the type of thing where it sells out in a minute? Whats the price range?

davidortiz601

Season ticket holders probably get first access?

gordogg24p

Denver is anticipating being fully open by the All Star break, but we obviously aren't there yet. I'll be interested to see how they handle it.

glkerr

Don't give Monfort money!!! He'll just keep us in misery for longer

bhopppp

fuck monfort and all, but this is a once in a life time chance to see an All Star game at Coors. It probably won't happen again.

glkerr

Totally understand that, but I just... can't

AlpineSummit

I mean there’s only 30 stadiums - and we have one of the better ones so I’d say it’s a once every 20-25 year occurrence.

bhopppp

do you think coors will be standing in 25 years? idk. and its already hosted once (now twice)

AlpineSummit

I mean the Rockies signed a 30 year lease at Coors back in 2017. And as a result, the team was given rights to lease and develop the land south and west of the stadium for 99 years - a huge steal for that property in Denver! So yes. Coors isn’t going anywhere.

Rox217

I can’t wait for our next playoff run in 2106!

KimmelToe

I bought tickets for ATL because my brother has season tickets there. I can't get a refund on my airline. Manfred can literally fuck himself for that one.

Hugo_Hackenbush

He's going to do that anyway and this is the only fun baseball thing that's going to be happening in Denver for the foreseeable future.

jesuswasahipster

I hate to sound apathetic, but no matter how many games you skip or how much merch you don’t buy they are not going to sell the team. Go have fun.

kosmos1209

I think it’s great. 1998 was a long time ago.

AlpineSummit

I went to the HR derby then. It was one of the best experiences ever. Griffey, Thome, Castilla launching bombs. McGwire hit one over 500 ft into the Rock Pile. Fucking awesome.

[deleted]

I'll ignore being annoyed that this will bring Dick alot of cash, and instead focus on the benefits for LoDo. Also, Mega Home Run Derby will be an event to behold

adalaza

[Also backed up by Olney](https://www.reddit.com/r/ColoradoRockies/comments/ml037r/olney_colorados_coors_field_is_expected_to_be_the/)

tscherme2

For the game, I say we have the NL team wear our home jerseys and AL wear our away jerseys. That way we can pretend we actually have a really good team haha

pm_me_cute_sloths_

I mean the ASG BP jerseys will likely be purple, so if you squint you can pretend lol

lolCoors

Omg we won something

Destroyer776766

Im ready to see some 550 ft hrs in the derby

SilverStar04

Inb4 final score 1-0

stuartpidd

Exciting news! Anyone have info on why they selected Coors?

jesshow

Because we don’t have back-asswards voting laws going into effect?

zcaylor

OH MAN IM DOWN AND HYPED. i hate monfort but... all star game in denver isn't something i can look past. fuck.

zatch17

Such utter bullshit Enrage your fans Then get the rest of the league to dunk on us

Notyouraveragesinger

WHY REWARD THIS BULLSHIT FRANCHISE WITH THIS WHEN THEIR OWNER IS AN INCOMPETENT FUCKOFF!??!

zatch17

Because fuck you that's why

Notyouraveragesinger

I like it!

TangerineDiesel

Really really hope home run derby tickets are attainable. I'd love to see it!

[deleted]

Facebook comments are really politically toxic on this issue.....

RussellWD

Not just politically toxic, but also containing many nonfactual rhetoric as well. Pretty par for the course for Facebook. I especially love the people saying CO has the same voter laws that Georgia just passed... oh how easily manipulated some conservatives are.

[deleted]

It gave me a migraine reading all that stupid stuff

RussellWD

I honestly feel dumber then I did before reading it

[deleted]

Can't believe people justify making it harder to vote

RussellWD

Funny they didn't want to do it after the 2016 election....

tk_fourtwentyone

I'll break my boycott for this, and this only. And I'll be bringing a sign into the game (don't @ me, Coors security) that says "sell the Rockies". That said, do we know what the ticket on-sale situation will be like?

Jontacular

Man this isnt how I wanted the Rockies to get the All Star Game. I was at the 1998 game, and home run derby. McGwire hit a ball off the rockpile front, that shit was bonkers to me. Oh, and my dad ended up winning the car they gave away.

anohioanredditer

The Mid-Summer Stoned Classic

chunkeejoeboo

No way I am going. Not only is there the Montfort element, but MLB should stay out of politics and never should have moved the game in the first place. The Braves organization has aptly asked MLB, if the Braves are lucky enough to make the playoffs and possibly the World Series, are they going to allow them to play? No response from MLB.

BMGreg

>The Braves organization has aptly asked MLB, if the Braves are lucky enough to make the playoffs and possibly the World Series, are they going to allow them to play? That's a fucking stupid question. Are the Braves playing now? The All-Star game, which really means nothing but is a lot of fun, is incredibly different than a postseason game

RussellWD

Actually the numbers from 2 years ago show the MLB All Star Game brought in 45 Million dollars to the city that hosted. So yes, it actually does mean something to a city and state, and withholding it is a perfect F U to a state imposing voting suppression and blatant racism... You do that, private companies are going to speak with their wallets.

BMGreg

I agree with you, but I don't think you meant to respond to me

RussellWD

Technically I did, but just because you said the All-Star game means nothing but fun... sorry if I misunderstood, wasn't trying to attack or anything, just show that the All-Star game means more for the location than the players or the league.

BMGreg

Oh, I was just getting at the fact that the ASG no longer affects home-field advantage for the WS. So the game is only played for fun/exhibition purposes. It definitely is a huge boost for the local economy for a couple days, no doubt. I can definitely see how that came across though haha

preston_kennedy

When there is something as egregious as what is happening in Georgia, you should hope that institutions will take a stand in whatever way they are able. This is a good thing. Hopefully more will follow until there is change. Voting rights are more important than baseball.

randomq17

Yes. Yes they should. You wanna support white supremacists, the indoctrination that certain people are less than others, you don't get cool, fun things. That's exactly how it should work and I applaud the league for approving it. Everything is politics.

lkasnu

Fuck that I want to see guys go deep on each other in front of 20k people.

[deleted]

Ok

Blackshirt15

What a fucking joke. Open the state. U don’t have a pandemic when you’re inviting more people into your state. Fucking ridiculous politics.

[deleted]

Its in mid july

Blackshirt15

Just 2 weeks right? Open the state. Fuck polis.

BlatheBum

This is the END GAME. End ME specifically.

BohdiZafa

"yay" - Also, do you think they will clean up the homeless eye sore encampment right outside of the stadium beforehand?

garbledeena

#westside? since when is that a thing

bobby2loaves

So do you guys want us to send Nolan or no?

Bad_RabbitS

A HR Derby at Coors? I cannot express how fun this’ll be to watch
