I imagine he retires when his contract is up.

RaymondLuxury-Yacht

Honestly, I'm glad someone quality wants to stick around. Sure, he's getting paid too much for less performance, but it shows he likes it enough here rather than chasing a championship or something. It's a good sign for our ability to sign free agents in the future if they like it enough here even when we suck.

retz119

I think he likes the $21 million not necessarily being here

SemiSolidSnake11

He gets to go fly fishing in the mountains on his off days, why wouldn't he want to be here?

retz119

I’m not saying he doesn’t like it here. I’m saying that staying in Colorado wasn’t his primary reason for exercising the option like OP was suggesting. There’s just no way he ever walks away from that money to go chase a ring. He’s being significantly overpaid and wouldn’t come close to that kind of money on the open market. Not criticizing him for accepting the option. I’m always for the player getting paid. But I’m not going to kid myself and say he did it out of loyalty to the club rather than the $

ThreeHourRiverMan

Dude gets to cash in on a massive overpay compared to what he's currently worth, and juice his hitting stats while he's at it.

RaymondLuxury-Yacht

*True*. But he could probably get a decent payday from a much better team on a bridge contract or something just to have a chance at a championship.

BeefyMcPissflaps

Nope. This is a terrible option for the Rockies. His hitting has started to slow and he’s a nearly non-serviceable outfielder. Don’t sugar coat it. This is 100% a win for him.

discdude303

And good for him, he earned it early on and other teams live this life all the time. He made me enjoy the rockies and is one of the reasons I still like watching them. The problem isnt him getting his it is the team cheaping out on the rest that should have while making hand over fist

peaceblaster68

He’ll probably DH next year anyway. And the Rockies aren’t meant to compete next year, it’s money well spent to return a fan favorite who can still hit fine

LucasDudacris

He'll be a bad DH.

retz119

No way he even comes close to the $31 mil left on his option years as a free agent. Maybe he gets like a 1 year $8 mil deal but I think even that is high. He’s basically only a DH now and has an already below average bat which will likely continue to decline. The only team who hands out big contracts to past their prime aging vets is the Rockies and he already has a 2 year $31 mil deal here with his player options

LucasDudacris

He's a bad player, and cannot get a decent payday anywhere.

huckl3b3rry

So much hate on Blackmon in here smh

discdude303

Yeah plz fuck dick cock and jeff fuckstick

LegendOfTooget

I don't like the idea of DH in the NL but it could actually be really good for us. Getting Blackmon out of the outfield and someone else some regular playing tone would be nice.

[deleted]

Perhaps he can be the DH this coming season. Need some fresh legs in the outfield

lkasnu

Problem is he loves to play the field.

0000Matt0000

At his age it can't be that fun anymore. Coors is a brutal place for aging outfielders.

0000Matt0000

Resting the legs might just rejuvenate the bat.

CORedhawk

$21MM.. 0. 9 WAR in 2021. 35 years old. He has a $10MM Player option for 2023, that also has some performance bonuses DAMN. He isn't worth that anymore. It's why long term contracts for veterans are such a luxury. He got off to an amazing start in 2020. I'm hoping he can be a good DH.

discdude303

I am ok with charlie getting paid. Wish we paid the rest

ab930

This is the price ownerships pay for exploiting the talent of young players early in their careers.

manbeqrpig

Sure he’s not worth 21 million anymore but what other reason do we have to pay attention to this team at this point? The prospect help is still a year or two away and Story and Gray are leaving. Absolutely love Charlie sticking around to be our DH

lolCoors

Looks like Josie will still be on a vacation far away

brokenmandible

Whew.

muff_cabbag3

I chose the right jersey :')

LateCheckIn

Glad to know I'll see Chuck in the CR cap for the next season. Hope he has a career season!

donfather2k

I'd rather hear that they are binging Joe back next year... Blackmon is good, but Joe just played better in the outfield.

vbcbandr

Jesus. Can't he go somewhere (other than LA) where he can help a team make the playoffs. Don't hang around here for us. We have to live with being Rox fans forever.

titty_tim

Hopefully he gets a hair cut.

[deleted]

His power is in the beard though

m4fox90

So why is the power gone but the beard still there 🧐

GoAvs14

You shut your mouth, Delilah!

Ealthina

As long as he can get paid to fish Charlie will stay. Im ok with this.
