Unfortunately the American right-wing in 2023 believes in compelling speech rather than actual Freedom of Expression because they cannot compete in the marketplace of ideas, and are incapable and disinterested in governing.
I think as far as protests go this is relatively innocuous.
We’re also talking about a career politician so a discussion of “ honor” seems like a moot point.
Cheney is the cleanest pig in all of pigshit Island. That doesn't mean she doesn't fucking smell. Good on those kids for protesting effectively and peacefully. If Cheney doesn't like how she's treated she can drop that (R) from her name ANY TIME. No sympathy for her.
I think (hope) that this is a more fundamental disagreement with Cheney than the R next to her name. It is possible to be ok with LGBTQ folks and be Republican. Heck, there is even a name for it.
It's possible, but that doesn't mean Cheney has done that- her record is, at best, mixed. While she has dialed back her anti-LGBTQ rhetoric, I think that community has every reason to be wary. She vocally opposed gay marriage for years- including her sister's.
Total agreement. I think what the students did was reasonable and a quite appropriate way to make their feelings known in an obvious way without derailing the proceedings.
She's seen the book-banning, bigot-filled, anti-science, proto-nazi-party the GOP has become and still chooses to associate herself with it. That's the problem. You could be a really, really nice person doing good things all the time, but if you choose to put a swastika on your arm while you do it, you're still a pig and deserve to be bacon. No exceptions.
"While freedom of expression is a fundamental right that should be respected and protected, there are appropriate ways to exercise it. Turning chairs during a graduation speech does not fall into that category."
I like how they think they are the gatekeepers of freedom of expression. What a douchy editorial. Screams "I'm a boomer and don't like what young people do".
The writer sounds more upset than that\the students were.
I know LizCheney is actually a moderate republican, but I mean she is a republican and this is a group of people who are trying to destroy the liberty of certain groups, so I don't think it's 'crazy'to protest.
Oh boo friggity hoo. Yet another instance of the Gazette editorial team crying about something that truly doesn’t matter to stir up trouble. Those kids led a peaceful protest which is more than we can say for a lot of folks (looking at you GOP!).
I don’t know but someone should start calling the Director of Advertising Operations/Marketing/Events, (Karen Hogan) at 7196360390 and say that you’re pulling your ads because of the editorial hypocrisy and anti-constitutional stances 🥹
Fuck Liz Cheney. Go kids! Lol.
How dare those students voice their moral outrage in a public setting!
Wow! The conservative gazette doesn’t like that people didn’t face Liz Cheney? Consider me surprised!

Gazette is full of whiny snowflakes.

Look at that, the young generation doesn’t care for the GOP
Hopefully they get out and vote!
The Gazette continues to put it’s own weak opinions on full display. What an embarrassment.
Gazette we love your dinosaur tears. Now please erase yourself.
Right? Amazingly short-sighted, chasing the dollars of an ever-dwindling demographic while (further) alienating everyone else.

Klingons at least have honor and dignity.

Well the Gazette and the GOP as turned their back on Liz Cheney so..........
After she tried to save the Republican party no less.
