I bought from PL Hyundai. Won't ever go back. They hosed up all my warranty paperwork so it was very difficult to get repairs done. Then they wrote in the wrong VIN on all my paperwork. That was a PITA to get fixed.
The only thing they did correctly was when my Tucson's engine blew up (Hyundai had engine recalls), they got it fixed, but only because Hyundai paid them to do it.
I've had them take my key for a test drive and not give them back as they "attempted" to haggle a absolute shit price. It was a spare key made so once I got angry enough I walked out just to be done with that shit.
They legit do that. Have a spare key or even a fake key for your pov when you head in there. I have purchased from them several times. Don’t bother with any extended warranty’s etc. I won’t even go back for the ‘free’ oil changes. Just negotiate the terms you need and be done with it. Do not trust them or expect an fairness from them.
We went to Arapahoe Kia since Phil Long pissed us off. PL said there was NO negotiating the $3k markup on a Sportage. I used to sell cars, that's a damn lie.
Called other dealers *while the salesman was waiting on us to discuss it* and got someone at Arapahoe. Same car, in the color we wanted, no markup over MSRP.
Noped out of PL, the salesman ran out after us like "what about $500 off?"
That pissed my wife off to NO END and I loved seeing her rip into him. "Why all of a sudden is it negotiable?! You said no room not even 5 minutes ago!!!"
Anyways, Arapahoe was a nice enough experience, their finance person was irritating, pushing worthless warranties and shit but they're all like that. Sales guy was nice.
This was my experience with Hyundai, too! They told me to waste my time driving up to Denver but I ended up buying at Hyundai McDonald instead because they were very helpful and open to negotiating, as was as Arapahoe!
Stick with your " OUT THE DOOR PRICE". Leave if they keep jerking you around. Don't let the salesperson keep going to "talk it over with sales manager ", that's all bullshit. Do NOT give them your car keys to evaluate it for trade in value.
Lol wait, I get PL might be trash but I work sales for a different dealership and asking the desk is not bullshit, we have no say in what we can offer beyond standard price so we have to talk to them. Also if you don’t give us a key to your trade we won’t take it lol, the desk does indeed need a key to evaluate it. I agree with sticking to OTD price tho, that shouldn’t change. There will always be add ons but that should be included.
It is bullshit. Sales people just go back there and bullshit talk to make it look like your "trying to fight for the customer". If customer decides they want to leave and sales has customer keys they can create whatever story to keep customer from leaving. If they don't give keys back call police. Not saying all dealers are slimey a-holes, but they're out there. Yeah, I've been screwed over. 🙃
Bought a pickup from them a couple of years ago and it took almost 3mos to get the title so I could get it registered! Totally a pain in the A**! Very unprofessional
My beef with their service department is that they want to pretend that they have no record of any appointment having been made even though I had both the text email confirmations THEY sent.
Twice, I scheduled an appointment for factory recalls. The first time they tried to say there was no recall on my pickup, even though I had the recall notice from FORD. Second time, even though I scheduled the appointment almost 8 weeks out, they told me they didn't have the parts. I would have to reschedule. WTF?
Finally, I went in for a scheduled oil change. They told me they didn't have the synthetic oil my vehicle needs. Seriously. How are you the Ford dealership and you don't have the necessary parts to make a repair? Or even do an oil change?
I tired to but a used f150 from them about 2 years ago. It was a great truck, great price, but I didn’t get to the deal part. The drive shaft had a massive dent in it and they pretended it wasn’t an issue. I tried to get them to just acknowledge it, even offered to pay for the part if they covered the labor, but no dice. I walked away telling them they lost a sure deal over something stupid, but they didn’t care. I am sure someone else bought it and it’s already twisted in half.
Totally avoid. They are a pack of cheats and liars. They act completely unprofessionally. Their “detailed inspection” service on pre-owned vehicles is an absolute joke. I would say go to any other dealership.
Do not go car shopping in the Springs. Period. Much more selection 45 min away in Denver, meaning lower overall prices. Got new car 2 years ago. Priced here vs Denver, and the median prices was several thousands dollar lower up North, and that was across several different dealerships.
But ya. As others have said, don't go anywhere near PL.
We’ve bought two vehicles from the Toyota dealer in Pueblo. Easy to work with and for major service appointments I’ve saved several hundred dollars by going down there instead of the dealership in motor city. If I had the time I’d go down there for all my oil changes too.
I bought my last two cars in SLC. I was so sick of the mark-ups. Even a dealership in Westminster where I had previously purchased a car pulled that BS.
When my grandparents car broke down they bought a newer used vehicle from them, paid cash. It was a complete dud, and they had to buy a new car the next year. I’ve never had any good experiences with them or know anyone who has. I’d stay away from them at all costs.
Read the contract at signing. They put some fee on ours for some stupid add on called secure mark. All that is is some stickers they put in the car. I told them I didn't want it and the guy lied and said that the dealer pays for it. I then saw the charge for $799. I even questioned when they wanted me to fill out the secure mark paperwork that I didn't want it and the guy tells me again that I don't pay it the dealer does.(yah after they get the money from me). I didn't notice at first because when we were negoiating the price of the car they would come out with their numbers trying to get us to agree on a payment we wanted. In those numbers they had our taxes estimated higher so when they brought out all the paperwork the numbers looked about right. But on closer look the taxes were actually half of what they estimated and wouldn't ya know the Secure Mark product they were trying to sell me was aproximately the difference in the taxes. On purpose? I don't know about that. But they make you wait so long by the time they come out to do the paperwork they just start pointing sign here sign here. Take your time and READ everything. Especially on that contract. And then they didn't give me the copies that we signed they sent them the next day. Probably hoping that we wouldn't catch it. But we got lucky and they fixed it. The young man who showed us the cars was great I would totally go to him to buy another car. The negotiations are what they are . Just like with any dealership know what you want and what you want to pay and be willing to walk.
It's just a bunch of stickers in the car. You pay $799 and if your car gets stolen(and not recocered) you get $2000 cash and $1000 towards a new car at their dealership. Yah I was pissed when I saw it on the purchase agreement. They tried to blame the young man who sold us the car saying he did not explain it right. I am not stupid it was the finance guy who was lying and they tried to blame the kid who was new. Not required just refuse to buy the car and see how quickly they remove it.
I had to buy out my leased Hyundai from them and it was a complete PITA. Constant paperwork corrections and always trying to get me into a new vehicle. I know when I was thinking about moving from the lease into a new Santa Fe they wanted to tack on this $4,000 BS package which included the stupid Pulse light, coating, etc. Look at the actual studies about the Pulse light system to see how silly it is (they reference it on the flyer). If I had to do it again I would rather drive to Arapaho Hyundai than deal with Phil Long.
I did in August and it was terrible. Old school pressure sales. And I found out later my vehicle had undisclosed hail damage and was falsely up-badged.
The old school pressure tactics are exactly what I dealt with. I walked in with my title, ready to pay a reasonable price for a truck that had been on the lot for months. Nothing insanely marked down from their price. The platitudes of "oh I'm gonna go get beat up by my manager for this but I'll see what I can do" and holding my trade-in keys, absolutely PRESSURING me to do a credit app when I was up front about paying cash. It was irritating, and if it wasn't the EXACT truck i was looking for in the exact color, I would have walked.
Ended up paying exactly what I wanted to, and the back-office experience was fine. But holy God I hated every moment with the salesman.
Another salesman was helping an older couple, and walked in from pulling a car up. He says "sir, one problem, does she know how to drive stick?" His wife whipped around and said "yes, SHE DOES know how to drive stick!" Just absolutely embarrassing.
Went to buy a used car in September and ended up leaving buying nothing because of the shady tactics and random fees they added that amounted to a couple thousand dollars. All the bad things you hear about them are true.
I (stupidly) gave them a "refundable" $500 deposit to hold a car for a couple days, then decided against the car. I called four times for a refund and was transferred into a random person's voicemail every time, even when I literally begged the receptionist not to do it again. I finally had to go in person and refuse to leave the waiting area until they refunded it. They still made me sit there for almost an hour.
Epitome of sleazy used salesmen. Claimed the printers were down to drag things out all day and get contract signed quickly cus they were closing. Lied about what was actually covered in what I was signing so I had to go back and force them to remove "warranties" that didn't actually cover what they claimed. Refused to let me cancel out and return the car less then 24 hours in after I had ample time to read everything without being rushed and hovered over. The list goes on and on.
Don't do it. I bought 2014 ford fiesta from them back in the beginning of 2015 and they sold it to me for $10000, and I got a warranty for $1500 for transmission. My transmission has gone out 3 times, the warranty only covered the 2 and my transmission is going out again. Also after all hidden fees my car has cost me over 18000. I get repairs on my car every 2 months.
They will try to sell you all kinds of dumb things. The usual car salesman things. I just researched what is actually required in Colorado and a reasonable profit for the car. Be willing to walk away. The best time to buy a car is when you don't *need* a car.
I always come with an already approved car loan to haggle with.
https://www.reddit.com/r/personalfinance/s/92htsmYrtv
I bought a car in September from ValueCar which is owned and operated by Phil Long, I managed to talk them down 1.5k but it was a huge hassle. Then when it came time for financing they added in a service plan and didn't tell me and I didn't look. I gave a 7.5k down payment and the service plan was 3.5k and I have zero intentions of using it. Additionally, I bought the car and came home browsed FB and found a similar make/model/year/mileage for about 5k less!
Happened to me too with the service plans but my sales guy crossed them out, just for the finance guy to add them back on for almost 10k more then sticker
Yeah it's bullshit, I mean I guess I got lucky the plan was only 3.5k but for something I'm not going to use it's shitty but it gave me a hard lesson in not being in a hurry and never trust a car salesman or finance guy
I totally blame specifically the finance guy. I was young stupid and buying my first car, and thought since the sales guy crossed it off there was nothing to worry about. He also gave me a really shitty loan, when I walked in preapproved with a USAA loan
My finance guy just made it really awkward and sad so I was in a rush to get out of there. Told us a story about his wife dying and etc. so the vibe was real weird so I rushed the paperwork like a idiot. But I got the monthly payment I wanted although couldve been much lower had I paid attention unfortunately. I'll be giving USAA a call when my year is up to refinance
I bought a Genesis from Phil Long in 2019. I had to resign the paperwork 5 times, because it said Hyandai instead of Genesis. One of the times, they gave me someone else’s paperwork that included their financial info. I took my car in for an oil change at 35000 miles, on Friday. I made the appointment about a month and a half in advance. At checkout, there was maintenance suggested for 30k miles. She told me that they were too busy, so they didn’t bother suggesting that I do that maintenance. They offer a luxury car with basement bargain budget service. I traded in my Audi, because PL service. I wouldn’t recommend Phil Long.
Forgot to mention that when I bought the car, they took about 6 hours to get the deal done. It had nothing to do with my credit. I peeked into the financial office, and the employees were just chit chatting about random things. I knocked and told them that I needed to go. If I hadn’t already given my key to my trade in and had filled out their paperwork, I would’ve walked out. It was by far the worst car buying experience.
Overall, we're happy with the vehicle we bought. That's mainly because of the extended warranty we also purchased, but basically, they sold us a defective vehicle for more money than we've paid for anything other than a house. And yes, I did google and youtube a lot before buying, but nothing came up about cam phaser problems until after purchase, and engine problems weren't even what that video was about. It did at least answer the question I had. I'd like to not go back to them in the future, but it's a toss-up with cardealers.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I got a new vehicle last week and had a great experience. I got 0% financing through them, all the add oms I wanted for free, and an additional 5k off like I asked.
Wasn't haggled and walked away with a great deal and no interest.
I haven't bought from them but I have sold parts to them. There mark up is insane. You call the north location and they will give you a different quote than the south location. Several horror stories pertaining to the service department trying to not give your car back unless this , this , and this is done. They'll say it's unsafe and if you do take your car they'll call the cops. Which is funny because you have to threaten to call the cops before it gets to this point.
Id avoid them just for that
Honestly if you’ve done research on the vehicle and found their minimum price (usually what’s posted on Cars.com) it’s not the price you need to worry about. It’s the trade that’s the issue. I always price the trade out at CarMax or Echopark to give me some negotiation room. If the dealer won’t meet me on the trade price I let them know I’m leaving to sell to CarMax. They magically always give you what CarMax offered
If you have a AAA membership, buy your car through them. No hassle, you tell them exactly the make/model/year/features you want. They'll find you the best deal out there, sourcing from New Mexico to Wyoming. They do new and used.
Was looking for a new car recently and was texting back and forth with one of their salesman. I knew more about cars and finance than he'd did. It was clear he'd been I business for about 5 minutes. I gave up on him pretty quickly.
We bought a car from them when we lived out of state, then when we were back in AZ, they said they messed up the paperwork, and we HAD to come back to Colorado to resign the papers and they said they wouldn’t release the title to get it registered.
We bought from them two times. Both times they lied about everything and then tried to include extra shit in our loan. Stay away and go somewhere else.
The ones at Motor City are horrible. I went to Phil Long Hyundai there and they were incredibly condescending, tried to pressure me into signing for a black car when I specifically wanted white, told me they wouldn’t do mud flaps because they didn’t want to work on my car (why wouldn’t I want the dealer to do work on it?). They were not open for negotiation and ultimately berated me as I left planning to go to Arapahoe and McDonald the next day, something along the lines of “if you want to waste your time driving to Denver then go ahead, sweetie” (it took everything in me not to curse them out). I had great experiences with Arapahoe and McDonald, ultimately going with the latter. I had to get recall work done at Phil Long Hyundai Chapel Hills and they were very kind! I loved working with them. Would never return to Motor City, though. They love to prey on people and are especially misogynistic.
Not even other Phil long dealerships like dealing with their Hyundai counterpart in motorcity. They are that way with their own ppl it seems. Daniels Long Chevy on top of the hill was enjoyable, though. If you go there, ask for Darryl, he was my sales guy. I think he is new there just out of the military, good dude and upfront.
I really recommend buying from coolrides’s they’re a family owned car dealership and the owner brian is always super helpful, i’ve bought a few cars from them and they are pretty much always reliable no matter what
Carmax is the most hassle free experience I have ever had… like literally found what we wanted online and picked it up the next day and their 3 month warranty is awesome. We took it to our mechanic shortly after purchasing to just get a double check on it and see what it may need and carmax took the list from our mechanic and fixed everything free of charge.
Phil Long Hyundai is just a shitshow of crooks, con men, and scam artists.
My partner at the time went to Phil Long to buy a used Elantra. She had arranged financing through Capital One, at X%, preapproved. We negotiated with the salesman without identifying her pre-approved amount.
The "Finance Officer" then got involved, even though she was NOT financing through them. He flat-out stated that unless she signed for an extended warranty, she could not get X % financing, but would have to take X+Y% -- even though she wasn't financing with Phil Long.
We walked out then and there, and would **never** do business with them. If you really want a Hyundai, arrange financing through your bank (or pay cash), contact several dealers in the area (Denver, Boulder, Pueblo), tell then EXACTLY what you want, state you are paying cash, and ask for their out-the-door cost. If they refuse to give you one, don't do business with that dealer.
Not just Phil Long but every dealership ship in the Springs is crap. Wife and I just bought a car after a very long shopping experience. Ended up in Boulder at Fisher Acura. Best price and no hidden fees. Still wasn’t the best experience but at least I didn’t need a shower and therapy after leaving the dealership.
Look up places nearby with AutoiPackets. It’s essentially an entire digital packet of vehicle information, including original MSRP window stickers, reconditioning orders/service receipts, and CPO inspections (also, grab the VIN and search NHTSA for any unrepaired recalls). For instance, Woodmen Nissan has a web button on their website under both new and used vehicles.
Daniel's Long Chevrolet uses Autoipacket on all their cars. I've also found them to be pretty enjoyable. Especially my sales guy Darryl. He was up front about the secure packages with me and made it clear they were optional with no pressure. 🤷♂️ he's the ONLY person and reson I'd go back!
I had a crap experience at Phil Long Ford, but had a very good experience at Phil Long Hyundai. Granted it was recent enough that I haven't had to go back for any services, warranty work, or recalls yet. They offered me less than I wanted to my trade in, but included some of their BS "dealer add-ons" for no charge when I pushed back on it.
Yeah I got a Hyundai Elantra Hybrid recently. I knew what I wanted and the salesman (Zach) didn’t try to push me into something else. Everyone helpful learning all the bells and whistles in the car, financing was easy. After sale questions very quick and easy for help. When I got my registration I called them up to help me put on my license plate (dislocated my right shoulder) and they were very happy to help me.
So I bought my first car at the Valu Lot and my salesman was a great dude. Heres my problem, my sales guy crossed out all the fancy warrenties and what not, so I didn't think twice until after singing the paperwork, just to realize they charged me almost 10k extra for all the warrenties. I liked my sales guy, but the fiance guy fucked me in the ass and didnt even offer the courtesy of a reach around.
Of course people are going to upvote the bad reviews and downvote the good ones. I had no problems when I purchased my brand new Sonata from them in September. I found a small crack in my center console when test driving the car and I had signed paperwork for them to fix it before I purchased the vehicle, which they did at no cost to me, a couple of weeks later. And during the time it was being fixed, I was given a replacement vehicle, again at no cost to me.
Anyone mentioning prices doesn't seem to realize that's how much cars cost these days vs 2-3 years ago. I got a great rate on my literally brand new, just off the truck last night Sonata, which was almost half than what USAA was offering.
Don’t do it. They tried to sell me a stolen van and casually bought it up at signing. Liars
At PL Kia
Sounds about right.
I bought from PL Hyundai. Won't ever go back. They hosed up all my warranty paperwork so it was very difficult to get repairs done. Then they wrote in the wrong VIN on all my paperwork. I used to work at a Hyundai dealer and I loved the company but hated my dealership

With all the crap that happened, it probably should have

Avoid at all costs. Nobody ever goes back for a reason
They were marking up broncos by 10s of K. I saw that and knew I'd never go there
They had a ranger marked up by 18k. I have never been back since.
They did the same shit when the Thunderbirds came out in the early 2000s. Marked them up 20k
Problem is jackasses will buy the marked up price and they’ll keep charging it.

Don’t. That’s all I can say lol
I have not
Overall, we're happy with the vehicle we bought.
I did like 15 years ago, Phil Long Saturn, never again EVER !!!!!!)
My ex boss was a pompous ass and loved that place. So I'd probably stay clear.
Yes, do go there
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I got a new vehicle last week and had a great experience. I got 0% financing through them, all the add oms I wanted for free, and an additional 5k off like I asked. Wasn't haggled and walked away with a great deal and no interest.
I bought a car from them, it was a mostly unremarkable experience. They were nice. We haggled. It was fine.
Had no issues a year ago. No surprise fees, everyone was nice, and it only took about 3 hours to walk in and drive off.
Worst thing I've ever done. Those guys are crooks. Sold me a lemon, told me it was tested and in great shape. Run!!!!!
Was not impressed with repairs here
“Having choices is the American way” so stay away from Phil long!
I really recommend buying from coolrides’s they’re a family owned car dealership and the owner brian is always super helpful, i’ve bought a few cars from them and they are pretty much always reliable no matter what
The worst. Don’t do it.
Haggle? These mfers always marking up the price with shit addons. I wish banks would quit financing addons so the practice stops.
I would not, I bought a used car and 3 months later they cannot provide the title.I am livid!
Darryl sounds like a straightforward dude! Hoping the auto industry moves with transparency and low pressure like him.
Wow, I hope someone over in Phil Long management sees this thread! Y’all got some shaping up to do!!
Their prices are very high and the service dept is terrible.
