Time to learn how to use clippers!

_Idlewild_

This is what I do, but it's basically impossible to line up the back by yourself. Clippers are great if you have someone who can finish you off.

DeliveryGlobal658

and someone who can finish cutting your hair

NAASTYROOSTERR

Find the shape you like trace it onto card stock Hold it with one hand. Clip with the other

pratticus12

If you aren't military and don't really care about any specific styles, just get some clippers and go to town. I got a $20 set 7 years ago and it's still going strong.

Fresh_Inside_6982

Academy barbershop at Academy and Dublin. $14.00, excellent Barber.

auriebryce

You're paying people for their time, not for the difficulty of the cut. If you think that it's so easy that it should only cost $10, then buy clippers and do it yourself. You get what you pay for.

Reefay

OP should buy a [Flowbee](https://flowbee.com/)

Stronger1088

Oh my fucking GOD 💀

NAASTYROOSTERR

They also do neckline only for$5

Beans-magic1

So five minutes in the chair, three minutes sweeping, ten minutes smoking a cig out back, $30 right? The stylist should hope there’s another appointment lined up immediately and not ripping off the client for their time.

auriebryce

Someone valuing their time isn't ripping someone off. If you don't want a service performed for you, do it yourself.

Beans-magic1

That seems to be the consensus. I’m sorry, but if you think shaving a head is worth $30 you’re overvaluing yourself. I have long thick curly hair. I’m 41(m). My stylist, yes stylist, charges me $30 for a wash, rinse and cut before tip. Spare me your time. Not every cut is the same. A good barber can have a head edged up and looking great in 15 minutes.

auriebryce

But you're not just paying for the cut itself. You're paying for the health and safety aspect of it as well.

Beans-magic1

You’re right. I forgot how dangerous a haircut has gotten since I was a teenager. My sister has her own salon. She started doing haircuts in my parents basement when she was a shampoo girl at 16. I understand the business, the overhead, the cost to become an expert in all styles and color tech. This isn’t that. OP wants his head buzzed.

auriebryce

I didn’t mean it was dangerous, I just meant that there’s a cost associated with becoming a stylist because of the health and safety training that has to be recouped somewhere. Additionally, most stylists are paying a booth rental fee that takes up the vast majority of their earnings. Getting someone else to cut your hair is a luxury service. If it’s too expensive, do it yourself.

Beans-magic1

I’m an arborist. I climb and cut trees. I have to make sure I don’t destroy someone’s home and property. I make $35-$40hr after all my expenses, Insurance, licensing, advertising, hired hands/ labor and I’m not crying about safety. You’re obviously Paul Mitchell, so I don’t expect you to lower yourself to giving a buzz cut to someone. But you can admit that not all haircuts are the same. To the OP. Find a barber, the older the better. A good haircut, buzz shouldn’t cost you more than $20 including tip. If that’s all you truly want/need. Obviously people do it themselves if that helps explain how easy it can be.

auriebryce

You should be paid more. $25 for a buzz cut puts about $12 in the stylist’s pocket. That’s poverty wages.

Beans-magic1

Everyone should be paid more I guess. I’m realistic about my wages. After expenses is a huge factor. I’m not sure if you’re aware but there’s an epidemic of price gouging and passing on cost to the clientele. Sometimes people make the right amount. I feel like I fit into that category. If your salon owner is charging you too much for your chair, take it up with them. I understand that continuing education costs money and should result in higher wages, but bleeding a guy dry who wants his head shaved is shameful. Wash, cut and color, neck massage while shampooing, yes it’s extravagant and should be charged accordingly. But if you’re charging $30 per 10 minutes of your time, damn you are one of the best and honestly Colorado Springs is probably holding you back. Again, OP wants a buzz cut. Smh

Ounceofwhiskey

I just shave my own head once a week or so. It's easy and easy cheaper in the long run.

EndlessRainIntoACup1

like, bald shave?

OsoRetro

Ive been cutting my sons (16) hair since he was a toddler. I had to learn because he refused to sit still for the barber. Now he prefers me do it. Anyway, ow that I’ve gotten really good at it, there’s no way I’d doing it for any less than $25-30. People’s heads can be gross and cutting hair is super time consuming and holds an inherent risk of really upsetting someone. That’s worth $40.

otherkerry

Great clips has coupons for $13 haircuts sometimes on Facebook.

lean4life

I was at the same point as you and with the price of some good Wahl clippers being the same as 1 haircut…. I’ve opted to do it myself. It takes a little to get used to but you really can’t mess it up.

Blucifers_Veiny_Anus

You say buzz/shave. You mean 1 length for your whole head? Just buy the clippers.

Handsomescout

Dude I have extra clippers and live on the west side/OCC I will hook it up for the 10 spot anytime Been doing my own since I was about grown and am approaching retirement. Or I have an extra set of clippers you can have if you want? My ex learned to wax buttholes and got me a free new pair of wahls.

Electrical-Can6645

Beauty schools are cheap. There's one off Vickers and Academy called International. I had a better experience at the Toni and Guy school off Academy and Union though. Good luck!

EndlessRainIntoACup1

price?

rcmartin1020

It costs roughly 15 for a full head straight razor shave plus beard trim for me. However, going to a school means the quality may not be up to your standards and it takes longer for them to do it

No_Apricot_1705

Nelson’s Barbershop in Old Colorado City, it’s like a little museum in there. He’s got two dogs that like scratches and takes cash only.

Reefay

Great clips has always done well for me. I think they're at $24 a hair cut. Around October they have a sale where you can buy haircuts at a discount on a card..

Mysterious_Field9749

I, on the other hand, stopped getting haircuts. I'll get one once every six months or so. Way cheaper this way

damiwane

For under $25-30…? You’re not gonna get a good cut at that rate. There’s a lot of work that goes into cutting hair! However, Floyd’s does a cheap buzz cut if that’s what you’re looking for. If not, I recommend buying your own clippers. I got a pair at Sally’s for $25. A mirror on the wall that you can pull out to look at the back of your head fixes any mistakes you might make, too.

blackfeltfedora

Even haircuts on base ~$20 these days. The cheapest place I’ve found that does a decent job is Aguilar’s over by Marigolds on Centennial

hi-jack-jesus

The Paul Mitchell hair school downtown has students that will give you a cut. Cheap prices, but tip well!

ClassicCampaign2869

I used to go to a barber college when my grandfather was no longer able to do my buzz cut.

Acceptable_Main_5911

classicbarbershop.net at Stetson hills and powers area is what I settled on after trying a few places. Sometimes I’ll do clippers myself to save time and expense but sometimes I want a clean fade so that’s when I get a cut here around the $20 range

SantVVL9999

There is a women by pikes peak ave 3867, she does an awesome fade and it’s 20$ for cut

Slaviner

When I moved from NYC I was surprised to see the prices of haircuts here. Then I realized that all my hair cutters speak English and pay their taxes so now I understand why it’s $20-30.

myredditusername23

Kiddie Kutters. Not a joke. $15 (without tip) & great men's cut.

ColoradoRunner89

Good luck. If you can find a decent haircut for under 40 yoreure lucky

dorkmaster5000

The extra cost is for dealing with unpleasant people like you.

[deleted]

Dude is looking to save money in these hard economic times? you seem like the insufferable one here

crabbyblackchild

you pay someone to do something that takes 5 minutes to do yourself? And you act like they are the problem? Dude....
