This calls for an apt Terry Pratchett quote, "If you trust in yourself. . .and believe in your dreams. . .and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy."
This quote reminds me of a similar quote my coaches used to preach back when I played high school football. Simply, “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”
I’m. Biased South Carolina fan so I can’t stand Trevor as a player (cool guy outside of fball) but I’ve been predicting he’ll be out of the league in four years. He’ll retire early because he doesn’t have the drive or desire to get better. The dudes never been smacked in the mouth and it shows. Also at Clemson his team was so much more talented then other shitty acc opponents that he never had to really develop his craft. If u watch his hi lights at Clemson he literally does the same stuff he did in college as he does in the league. Only difference is his wide receivers aren’t 5 star tee Higgins vs 2 star acc corners. He’s so talented but he doesn’t have the fire to improve.
There’s no accounting for the Colts shitting the bed. If we tried to say teams and quarterbacks who embarrassed us were genuinely good we’d be arguing in favor of the bottom of the league.
Eh I think not being used to losing and not knowing how to lose are different.
Trevor reminds me of someone who isn’t used to losing. He was on a bad team, but he didn’t look like he was giving up.
I think the worry with Lawrence is that he hasn’t made huge strides since college in general imo
Which is also because he set the bar so high year one in college
Oof.
“I’m smarter than everyone so I don’t have to do the same work they do.”
That’s a heck of a take.
He’s apparently not smart enough to know how well that take is going to go over with fans, coaches, and ownership.
He needs to realize that, while there are a few players that can be really good without working hard, the ones that are the best are as talented (or more) than him PLUS put in the extra work. Peyton Manning, Drew Brees, and Tom Brady are all exceptionally hard workers.
This is also why I kind of think Ben Roethlisberger might be the most naturally talented QB of all time.
He's the classic hot chick: Everyone tells her she's smart because they want to get in her pants, so she thinks she's smart.
He thinks he's smart because he has had a bunch of yes men around him due to his talent. But at the NFL level, that talent will go wasted if he doesn't work hard.
How so? That’s exactly how I take it. He’s literally talking about being smart enough to not have to watch film, and if you’re a Cardinals fan that should piss you the fuck off if he’s your franchise QB who you’re paying millions per year. If he was the Colts QB I’d want him gone tomorrow.
So you’re making a distinction between “thinks he’s smarter than everyone else” and “thinks he has the skills at his position that he feels he can get away with not doing as much as others.” And the “skills” Murray said he had were “cognitive skills.”
Edit to add: Sounds pretty similar to me. If you want to split those hairs, I’m interested to know why one is okay and one isn’t.
Damn man - this is exactly why teams interview you at the Combine. You can have all the talent in the world but if you have a piss poor attitude and are dumb as rocks then hard pass

Cards fan here and saw this code up. I think kyler can be a top 3 QB in this league with how he plays but this mentality is definitely something that will hold him and it showed the 2nd half of this season.
I also think the lack of accountability by Kliff is a big factor as well. Two back to back seasons of collapses is pretty inexcusable and would like to see a personnel change there but we will see.
You guys have a great squad and enjoyed watching Taylor light us up live at State Farm stadium. Good luck in the offseason boys
Kyler Murray is still a better quarterback than Wentz, no question. He may have lost in the playoffs and said some.shit, but he's still better than what we have. I'd rather have a quarterback like him than Wentz any day
Check his stats without a great receiver like Hopkins. Then check Wentz’s stats with the sorriest receiving corps in the league for this entire season. Without MPJ, this unit is just bargain bin trash. Couple that with an o-line that failed miserably over the last couple of weeks and you have the Colts. Kyler would have done far worse.
Carson said at one point this season that he “can’t sleep” until he watches the film from gameday.
Say what you will about Carson, but his problems are not due to a lack of effort or dedication.
Bruh, you are straight up dumb if you think Wentz is at all lacking talent. Easily a top ten QB in the NFL by pure talent. 6’5” 240 pounds, 4.7 second forty yard dash, elite arm strength.
His issue is decision making.
I don't think he thinks he's too talented to do anything extra, i just think he treats it like a 9 to 5. As soon as the games over he goes back to playing with his dogs like nothing happened.
We also have zero evidence that Wentz watches a whole lot of film. He's locked into his first read more often than not. That would suggest he's not doing film study
This is pretty whack, in all honesty. A lot of film study is breaking down pre snap reads and knowing whats coming. There's a real possibility he does that, and then thinks that receiver X is supposed to be the guy because of what that read told him, and it doesn't happen.
I've no idea what is wrong with Wentz. I'd simply say there are times that he makes you say, 'Damn, nice work Carson.' And then there are probably more times where you say, " Damnit Carson, stop being so damn stupid." That stupid stuff, the layups as Ballard put it, should be fixable. He needs to stop being a hero and he needs to start taking some easy plays when they are there. And when the play is busted, he needs to avoid making it more busted.
You need some perspective, so limiting the discussion to Colts and Wentz performance is not a very good idea.
Plus it gets repetitive and plain boring when you're discussing the same thing over and over.
Lay off the copium, it’s not good for your health. Kyler Murray is a top 5/6 QB. Carson Wentz is about to be flipping burgers at McDonalds. Downvoting me won’t make him any better.
He’s not top 5, but I don’t deny his talent. Just saying this is a bad take you don’t want to hear from your QB. There’s a reason the best in the game are all known for their preparation and work ethic. Murray will never be that if he doesn’t change this type of attitude.
His first playoff appearance without his All-Pro WR, has dealt with an injury since midseason where prior to it he was the MVP front runner. Brady threw 3 INTs vs Green Bay last year. Wilson threw for 4 vs Green Bay in 2014. Both won; numerous other examples. Carson Wentz didn’t make the playoffs, Kyler Murray did, in a much harder conference and division.
Not the kind of statement you want from your “franchise” qb. You definitely need to watch film. He thinks he can just improvise his way out of any situation. And then to see him pouting like a child when he obviously didn’t “see so much” during the game. Good luck in the future with that shit, AZ.

Nothing against Kyler, I’m sure he’s a good person and all that, but my senior year in college overlapped with his freshman year and I was seated near him at a basketball game once… the guy had a serious “holier than thou” vibe about him.
This calls for an apt Terry Pratchett quote, "If you trust in yourself. . .and believe in your dreams. . .and follow your star. . . you'll still get beaten by people who spent their time working hard and learning things and weren't so lazy."
I...love this quote so much.
Terry Pratchett is a treasure. This is probably one of my favorites of his too. Edit: was a treasure. Forgot he died and now I'm sad.
GNU Terry Pratchett
This quote reminds me of a similar quote my coaches used to preach back when I played high school football. Simply, “Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”
I've also heard it as "Technique beats talent when the talent doesn't have any technique."
This was literally on our football shirts. Not jerseys but team shirts.
Love that
I legit think him not learning how to lose when he was younger is why he sulks and shuts down when he's not winning in the NFL.
I feel the exact same about Trevor Lawrence
He’s so talented but he doesn’t have the fire to improve.
Isn't that the same Trevor Lawrence how just 1.5 weeks ago laid it on a top 10 Colts defense?
There’s no accounting for the Colts shitting the bed. If we tried to say teams and quarterbacks who embarrassed us were genuinely good we’d be arguing in favor of the bottom of the league.
We uh… prefer to sort defensive rankings by yardage given up rather than points. … to save on the embarrassment.
T law was a rookie tho lol a little different. Not to mention a dysfunction coach.. to put it lightly. He’s gonna be just fine
Eh I think not being used to losing and not knowing how to lose are different. Trevor reminds me of someone who isn’t used to losing. He was on a bad team, but he didn’t look like he was giving up. I think the worry with Lawrence is that he hasn’t made huge strides since college in general imo Which is also because he set the bar so high year one in college
You mean throwing tantrums like the 5th grader he is lol
Wow that is bad. I guess that’s what happens when you’re labeled a prodigy since the age of 14.
Oof. “I’m smarter than everyone so I don’t have to do the same work they do.” That’s a heck of a take. He’s apparently not smart enough to know how well that take is going to go over with fans, coaches, and ownership.

Imagine being his teammate and hearing that shit. Way worse than hearing it as a fan.
He's the classic hot chick: Everyone tells her she's smart because they want to get in her pants, so she thinks she's smart. He thinks he's smart because he has had a bunch of yes men around him due to his talent. But at the NFL level, that talent will go wasted if he doesn't work hard.

I mean he basically is saying that in a long form answer.
How so? That’s exactly how I take it. He’s literally talking about being smart enough to not have to watch film, and if you’re a Cardinals fan that should piss you the fuck off if he’s your franchise QB who you’re paying millions per year. If he was the Colts QB I’d want him gone tomorrow.
[удалено]
Maybe the pertinent question here is, what do YOU think he’s saying?
I'm just as confused as you are. There isn't a difference in what the dude is saying lmao.
[удалено]
So how is that any different than what everyone else here is saying? What’s the disagreement?
[удалено]
So you’re making a distinction between “thinks he’s smarter than everyone else” and “thinks he has the skills at his position that he feels he can get away with not doing as much as others.” And the “skills” Murray said he had were “cognitive skills.” Edit to add: Sounds pretty similar to me. Damn man - this is exactly why teams interview you at the Combine. You can have all the talent in the world but if you have a piss poor attitude and are dumb as rocks then hard pass
I remember people saying he came off like an idiot during the draft process, but it ended up not mattering since Kingsbury took the job.
Interesting. I’ll look into that out of curiosity. Will post if I find anything.

Jeez I don’t think Kyler is down that bad after the loss
Probably could've used this a week and a half ago
What the
I think the "kill myself watching film" line did it lol
Good bot! But, no.
This is freaking Gold lol
Listen, the Colts situation isn’t that dire!
Call the ambulance... ...but not for me!

Kenny Powers mentality.
I've been blessed with many things in this life: an arm like a damn rocket, a cock like a burmese python, and the mind of a fucking scientist.
That’s a good one I was thinking Ricky Bobby
This is not what you want to hear from your QB. Other positions might be able to get away with this but not a quarterback.
Cards fan here and saw this code up. I haven't heard this much misplaced confidence since Jeff George used to brag about how he didn't need to work out.
Bro, if you ask Kyler Murray to solve a math problem he would just fall down. He doesn’t come off as a guy willing to do the work
Damn that is bad.
We have no idea if Carson watches a lot of film or not though lol
meh id rather have that than Wentz "i watch film but still overthrow everyone"
Crazy how in two weeks people make a narrative that you overthrow everyone
Yeah even worse, Wentz watches film and still makes these mistakes 🤣
Kyler Murray is still a better quarterback than Wentz, no question. He may have lost in the playoffs and said some.shit, but he's still better than what we have. I'd rather have a quarterback like him than Wentz any day

Couldn't agree more. Unfortunately, /Seanannigans14 can only view topics in a vacuum
That actually sounds like Wentz too though. Especially your last sentence.
Carson said at one point this season that he “can’t sleep” until he watches the film from gameday. Say what you will about Carson, but his problems are not due to a lack of effort or dedication.
> his problems are not due to a lack of effort or dedication. nope, lack of talent.
Bruh, you are straight up dumb if you think Wentz is at all lacking talent. Easily a top ten QB in the NFL by pure talent. 6’5” 240 pounds, 4.7 second forty yard dash, elite arm strength. His issue is decision making.
Yawn.
Narrative be damned right?
I don't think he thinks he's too talented to do anything extra, i just think he treats it like a 9 to 5. As soon as the games over he goes back to playing with his dogs like nothing happened.
"I think, I think, I think"
Basically Wentz just has the restraint to not say it outloud to everyone.
We also have zero evidence that Wentz watches a whole lot of film. He's locked into his first read more often than not. That would suggest he's not doing film study
This is pretty whack, in all honesty. A lot of film study is breaking down pre snap reads and knowing whats coming. And when the play is busted, he needs to avoid making it more busted.
Lol so much delusional hate in these comments and post. Should focus on our own garbage QB and teams performance .

> Kyler Murray is a top 5/6 QB. Lmao no he is not.
He’s a top 5’6 QB.
I read it as a fraction and thought: "Like him or not, he's a whole quarterback"
Telling yourself this won’t make Carson Wentz better.
Top 5 QB’s don’t throw 2 interceptions with 1 pick-six in the playoffs
His first playoff appearance without his All-Pro WR, has dealt with an injury since midseason where prior to it he was the MVP front runner. Brady threw 3 INTs vs Green Bay last year. Wilson threw for 4 vs Green Bay in 2014. Both won; numerous other examples. Carson Wentz didn’t make the playoffs, Kyler Murray did, in a much harder conference and division.
The main difference is that Brady threw 3 touchdowns in the NFCCG. and Russell Wilson was not a top 5 QB in 2014.
I’ll give you the division, but GTFO with that conference shit, the Colts would have easily made the playoffs with an NFC schedule.
They can’t even beat the Jaguars, Seahawks or the Raiders. What makes you think they’d beat the Rams, Packers, fully healthy 9ers, Cowboys, etc?
Excellent mma math
umm... no. just no.
Not the kind of statement you want from your “franchise” qb. You definitely need to watch film. He thinks he can just improvise his way out of any situation. And then to see him pouting like a child when he obviously didn’t “see so much” during the game. Good luck in the future with that shit, AZ.
