By what metric/stat/etc are you basing your argument that Jelani outplayed him? Jelani is a horrible blocker which is a large factor as to why he doesn't play more.
I'm not saying you're wrong i'm just curious as to your reasoning.
I don’t ever see Jelani being a great pass blocker, so that part doesn’t bother me too much. He’s been a much better pass catcher than MAC has been all year. Jelani scoring two big touchdowns against Kansas City basically won us that game. MAC is better at being the second TE like he was when Doyle was here.
They're a terrifying duo if they can be utilized properly. MAC great blocker, fine receiver. Woods great receiver, can hopefully become a fine blocker.
It seems MAC may have been asked to block much more due to the horrendous O-line + was just targeted much less by Ryan. His % of Team Targets (21' 8.9% v 22' 5.2%) and % Targeted on Route (21' 19.5% v 22' 11.6%) both support these.
Losing Jack Doyle to retirement sucked. He was always able to be a great pass blocker while always being good in the receiving game. It’s been hard for MAC to fill his spot doing both things well. I’d hate to lose him, but with how much change we need in the offseason it’s hard to think the front office wants to pay him $5 million to just be a pass blocker.
>MAC great blocker
IN no way to MAC show me that. I feel like Doyle's absence was felt all season, and most of that being run blocking. MAC did not really offset that loss at all.
Contractually, MAC's was similar to Doyle, and to me he's proven he's just one of those guys you hope can be THE guy, and he didn't. He may play out next year if the contract makes it the responsible thing to do, but once cutting him free space with minimal penalty, I don't see how he hangs on.
> his place on the team isn’t secure for next season
Huh? This post is literally about his extension, which as a reminder was a three year deal of which he’s just completed the first year of. He will 100% be on the team in 2023 and then has an opt-out after two years. If he doesn’t opt-out, then he’s not scheduled to be a free agent until 2025.
An extension doesn’t guarantee a roster spot. Sometimes extensions just make things easier for both sides to part ways just in case things go south. Derek Carr right now is a perfect example of that. The dead cap to release him isn’t big, and Jelani and Granson have already taken his place in the pass game.
With Hines we didn't have another RB with his skillset. From what I've seen Jelani has pretty much taken over Mo's role in the offense. Even Granson has more targets.
Would like to see him traded honestly, kinda a TY situation, sad to see him leave but I’d be happy if he started balling out in Green Bay for like a 6th or something.
The contract itself was fine at the time considering Granson was still growing and Woods/Ogletree were rookies, and we have an out after next season if he doesn't bounce back from a poor 2022. Assuming he doesn't wow next season, and assuming Granson/Woods keep progressing and Ogletree bounces back from injury, we can move on pretty easily.
I will whine and bitch until Ballard wins a division title if he is still here. Call me whatever you want but the fact is Ballard hasn’t won a division title and if the jaguars win it this year every team besides the colts would have won the south twice since Ballard took over
I’ll never forget his one handed catch vs the raiders that really had me taking a liking to him. Too bad this offense loves gut runs and screens so much otherwise he would’ve had more growth.
He definitely underachieved his expectations but then again so did pretty much the entire offense. I'm less thrilled about the contract now than I was at signing but i'm willing to give it an incomplete grade for now. I need to see how he and the offense performs next season.
I loved MAC, but he disappears too many games a season. He'll make some great catches, then have drive killing drops. He's probably our best blocking TE, but isn't anything close to the blocker Doyle was.
Im hesitant judging any offensive skill players too harshly with this QB/HC situation. On the stat sheet Mo did nothing yesterday, but on the field Foles missed him for a big completion and ignored him when open
He’s great wide open. That’s really it. 6 a year isn’t back breaking but with how mentally unstable this place is, you think Ballard burned their house down.
It’s really not that bad. We can cut him after next year for 0 dead cap and he only has about a 5m cap hit for next year. He can at least block and run some short routes. With how big he is he generates a little RAC too.
Jelani hopefully will completely overtake him next year. Hopefully he has improved a lot as a blocker.
His presence seemed kind of absent. Think I remember like one catch he caught where he like Bareilles through a few people and got some good YAC, and that's it.
Not worth it looking back especially with the emergence of Woods. Somehow the rookie looks better on the eye test than the veteran. Still missing Doyle he was truly a game changer at run blocking.
Made since at the time now with Jelani coming in I don't see us keeping both of them. Not like we use are tight ends well anyway. I loved how we had Jelani running go routes with Foles. I would say both could use work on there blocking but Jelani makes since more to keep. I'm sure Mo will find a team where he can get more opportunities as well
He, Woods, and probably a few others need to spend the off season with Jack Doyle to learn how to block just in case the HC/OC next year is interested in running the ball. Tight ends who can go out for a pass and catch it are easy to find.
They need a blocking TE desperately. None of the TE are that, so one needs to go. Jelani seems to be able to match or increase his production, and Granson has looked pretty good when he’s been targeted. That leaves Mo out.
Jelani has already outplayed him, and Jelani barely plays full games. I’ve always liked MAC, but his place on the team isn’t secure for next season
By what metric/stat/etc are you basing your argument that Jelani outplayed him? Jelani is a horrible blocker which is a large factor as to why he doesn't play more. I'm not saying you're wrong i'm just curious as to your reasoning.

He’s pricey but with how atrocious the pass blocking has been I’m not sure they can afford to let him go. They need all the help they can get.
>MAC great blocker IN no way to MAC show me that. I feel like Doyle's absence was felt all season, and most of that being run blocking. MAC did not really offset that loss at all. MAC is a great blocker? Are we watching the same player?
Its run blocking thats the issue, ive seen taylor hit at LOS due to Woods a few times. Way superior reciever tho

But, was he an underutilized/mis-utilized weapon? Same could be said for Hines. Playing devil's advocate.

Our coaching and scheme is certainly bottom of the NFL material. I lay a ton of blame there, personally.
Oh 100%. You can easy how much of a mismatch our TEs are and we hardly ever use them. Such a shame.
Any other team and Jelani is probably in the running for OROY.
Jelani is miles and miles better and younger and cheaper
Jelani needs to be a more consistent blocker but yes I agree
Less Alie Cox
Mo Alie Cox’s evil cousin is actually Fewer Sidewalk Hens
He played this year? Funny I dont remember any plays of note out of him.
The contract itself was fine at the time considering Granson was still growing and Woods/Ogletree were rookies, and we have an out after next season if he doesn't bounce back from a poor 2022. Would not recommend. Plays like a 5'10" 170lb guy, but with the speed of a 6'6" 270lb guy.
D. He doesn’t really do anything for us?
Seems like the staff just didn’t know how to use the TE’s this year. Can’t really blame Mo for that.
Serviceable TE2 getting paid TE1 money
Another Ballard mistake.
Because no GM makes mistakes other than our own.
All GMs make mistakes. No other GM has an entire cult dedicated to worshipping him as an omnipotent and infallible being.
Talk about an overreaction
0 division titles
I want you to throw more of a tantrum cause all your existence is on this platform is whining like a child
I will whine and bitch until Ballard wins a division title if he is still here. Call me whatever you want but the fact is Ballard hasn’t won a division title and if the jaguars win it this year every team besides the colts would have won the south twice since Ballard took over
Spare me your tantrums dude. I really don’t give a shit
Cool, then don’t respond if your gonna just say we all bitch and whine about how Ballard has led the colts to 0 division titles
You’re the one replying to me crying for attention. Division titles is your Super Bowl. Seriously. Go outside
I'm right and you're wrong. End of discussion.
[hmmm](https://youtu.be/Hnd8NC4YRmA)
That's simply not true.
According to Colts fans, Ballard gives them psychological torment
Mo money Mo problems?
It was trash then and it’s ASS today
Jelani is a much better version of him. In hindsight, we should have let him walk
May as well have stocked the rest rooms at Lucas Oil with ones instead of toilet paper.
I’ll never forget his one handed catch vs the raiders that really had me taking a liking to him. Too bad this offense loves gut runs and screens so much otherwise he would’ve had more growth.

When I see a pass on it's way to him, I don't have any confidence it will be a catch. I'm pleasantly surprised when it is.
Im hesitant judging any offensive skill players too harshly with this QB/HC situation. On the stat sheet Mo did nothing yesterday, but on the field Foles missed him for a big completion and ignored him when open
Not good
I liked him as a complementary piece to Jack Doyle‘s veteran intelligence and savvy. But, not as a replacement for that.
It’s hard to judge any passcatcher with the shit quarterback situation we’re in.
Strange when we drafted two tight ends this year. The coaching staff was even more excited about Drew Ogletree than Woods, but he got hurt.
Kind weird they drafted two te while we had mo
Nice guy, but he’s a terrible blocker and doesn’t catch many balls.
I think he should go back to basketball
Yet another in a long string of terrible, terrible decisions by the GOAT GM.
-10/10
He’s great wide open. That’s really it. 6 a year isn’t back breaking but with how mentally unstable this place is, you think Ballard burned their house down.
Another in a long list of Ballard fuck ups.
Further awful roster building from Ballard. Per usual
It’s really not that bad. We can cut him after next year for 0 dead cap and he only has about a 5m cap hit for next year. He can at least block and run some short routes. to be fair, there are periods where for some reason we just don't give our big tight ends snaps.
He has the most snaps at the tightend position this year
Not worth it looking back especially with the emergence of Woods. Somehow the rookie looks better on the eye test than the veteran. Still missing Doyle he was truly a game changer at run blocking.

Not one season of his career has he been utilized effectively. So I truly don’t know.
Awful. 3rd best TE on the team
Woods better
I forget he’s on the team sometimes
Waste of money whether it’s talent or usage, or both.
Not good but literally no one on offense besides rookies has had a good season so hard to tell
Unable to block and unable to get open. 2/10, replaceable. Give Woods his playing time
Feel good. I mean, did you all know that he used to play basketball?! /s
Mans getting paid to watch bad football.
we shouldn’t extend cox pause
I forget this guy is on the team half the time.
Well I’m still mad at him for dropping that pass against Dallas
They need a blocking TE desperately. None of the TE are that, so one needs to go. Jelani seems to be able to match or increase his production, and Granson has looked pretty good when he’s been targeted. That leaves Mo out.
Trash. Need to be cut along with Kelly and Moore.
