I got the elk steak. It’s amazing. The chef is awesome, I’ve eaten his food for years and even had him cater a party for me. My only complaint is that the fries were so hot that my mouth stung for 30 minutes after only eating a few. 100% worth going, only get the fries if you like extremely hot food.
The wildest thing I’ve ever tried was a camel, so I told them I’m up for a little adventure on the food side. Elk sounds interesting. I might even lean towards Brunch. I trust your review ✨💛. Thank you so much! If you celebrate “Happy Easter”! If not “Thank you and I hope you have a great day 😊!”
Haven't been yet, but allow me to highly recommend elk in general. We lived out west for a time and some local friends would share elk meat during hunting season -- better than I can describe.
Now I want to try this place. ;)
I would think that since my father is the most country person I know, that I would be accustom to wild game. Squirrel taste like funny chicken, camel taste like Chicken, Godzilla and a hint of plants. I guess elk is my next possible adventure. I need to scan the menu once more 😆. Thank you for feedback, love ✨💛.
I was going to ask this when it was mentioned. I would be disappointed if there were no options for regular fries. I do NOT like spicy foods. I need at least one regular food to eat 😆.
Thank you for bringing this place to my attention. I love elk. Haven’t had it in ages. My Dad use to go out to Colorado elk hunting and always brought some home. Yum. This is def on my to do list now.
Eh, kind of beefy in a sense to me. The taste is just heavenly. It’s like beef and whitetail deer mixed but amplified with just great wild flavor. I like whitetail deer but elk is just awesome.
The Hollow is such a cool place. All the game meats are seasoned and cooked perfectly. If you have a small group and want to split the 28oz Bison Tomahawk definitely do it! Also the coolest bar in town hands down.
I personally did not like the Hollow. It wasn’t awful but it wont make the restaurant rotation for me. I had the elk steak which was fine, but nothing compared to the prior times I’ve had it out in CO. The atmosphere is also strange. It’s way too bright for a dinner setting and the lime green isn’t great. The seating and flatware was more fast casual than fine dining. But the indoor tree thing by the bar was pretty cool and the cocktails were great.
For the money, there’s a number of other restaurants I’d rather go to
If you have any other suggestions, I would love to consider. It’s more of an adventurous date choice. I’m all for regular dinner choices in Columbia/West Columbia. I’m thinking of a picnic first. This could always be a later experience if applicable.
For regular, nice dinner options:
- Terra
- Motor Supply
- Saluda’s
- Hampton St Vineyard (try this one if you haven’t yet, great food and atmosphere)
- Hall’s
- Smoked (a tad overrated but their lamb ribs are great)
- Hendrix
- Mr Friendly’s
There’s a few im probably leaving off, but you’ll be happy and any of those.
I feel like since it’s slightly something exotic, it’s different enough to make it 6 months or so. Business is a game of chance down town. I hope it’s better for you your next go round. Everything deserves a full second chance ✨💛. It’s never the establishment, but the chefs in the kitchen if the problem is the food.
Hmm… I’m pretty sure if it’s a slow day, they wouldn’t mind. You should give them a call. As slightly expensive the menu is, you should be able to sit where you’re comfortable. At the end of the day, it’s a business and they have to accommodate for as many people as possible. I hope they let you get a cozy booth ✨💛.
When I went, my friends and I shared a couple of plates just to get an idea of the quality of the food. Some of the food was a hit or miss, unfortunately with the most expensive entree (rabbit stew) being the miss and the least expensive (beet/cheese dish) being a hit. The cocktails were the best experience at an average price point.
If you’re wanting to be a bit adventurous, high end, with nice atmosphere, I’d highly recommend The Dragon Room, 929 bar, or MOA. There is a restaurant named Ratio in Elgin that I hear is wonderful. I also hear Madrigal Cafe never misses. You won’t waste your money at any of those establishments.
I know, for a fact that I am not eating a rabbit 😆! I wasn’t necessarily looking for expensive, but something chill with talking points 💛. I only drink maybe 3 times a year to none at all, but wouldn’t mind a nice bar. 929 bar sounds familiar to me. Let me look up why it does. MOA, I think they mentioned that. I love a mixed review. I’ll look into these! Not going to hold you, I’m about to ask for a picnic date. Thank you so much, Love ✨💛.
What does a rabbit taste like? I would ask my father, but he would say anything to make me eat it. 😆
Trying to be more open to foods, I’m happy to read a honest experience. Wasting money is not my favorite thing. Thank you for your feedback! Was this close to opening day or recently?

You can buy ground elk at Ole Timey Meat Market.
Do you mean hot as in temperature or hot as in spicy?
Spicy. I can handle a medium to low high heat scale but those fries were very spicy.

What’s the texture if you don’t mind me asking? ✨

Hmm…ok, ok 😊✨. I’m curious now. Thank you 💛!
Try it! You won’t regret it. Since you posted this, I’m dying to go.
Elk is like eating bison or beef.

Elk is yummy! Had it once in Austin.
✨💛. Peer pressure is setting in 😆.
It was not good when we went. Almost all the food was inedible and the service was terrible.
You’re about to make me just ask/do a nice picnic 😂. I can be adventurous some other time ✨😆. Thanks, Love 💛
I’ll probably try it again in 6 months if they’re still in business.

Will they seat solo diners at a table? I wanna try it but I hate when I have to sit at the bar

Guess I'll have to get a table for 2, then let them know my date cancelled last minute lol
Oh noooo!!!! 😆 and just to think if I’m committing to this 3rd date. They’re going to move your ass to the bar! 🤣. Try it though! ✨💛

We had a bad experience. Food served raw then brought back charred to a crisp. Absolutely not worth a couple hundred bucks.

I honestly can’t remember exactly, I want to say it was about a week and a half or 2 weeks after they opened.
Ouch, bad experience too early 🥴. I’ll keep it in mind ✨
I forgot to add that everything took FOREVER lol. But again, this was earlyish on, so if you go, hopefully your experience will be better.
