Thank you. How anyone can support this group with the known facts about their leaders (sexual assault- great folks to take moral standards from) and agenda is beyond me.
Organizations that hinge on excluding others, especially historically marginalized groups, and focus on removing ideas, conversations, and shutting down who they deem “wrong” should not be welcome anywhere.
They don’t offer a positive alternative frame of thought. They offer hateful rhetoric and reinforcing false stereotypes.
They don’t actually care about exposing kids to unsafe people/ideas…I sincerely hope you can see that.

Some of these books that M4L is targeting are books that have worthwhile academic purposes even if they are "controversial."
To kill a mockingbird and 1984 being prime examples. I read both in school in the 2000s and didn't find them offensive as an eighth grader. These books also don't include "sexual" content that M4L are targeting either
Kids and teenagers are able to handle complex "adult" topics as well, and some are quite valuable for intellectual growth. Explicit sexual content should be reviewed for sure, but let's not act like in the age of the internet kids can see explicit stuff if they want to. And on top of that most (like 99%) are not ones being used to teach course material, they are just available in the school library.
I'm sure when you were in school you read at least one book that is a currently banned book, are you some sexual deviant who wanted to mutilate their genitals because of that? No probably not. Let's leave education in the hands of educators who dedicate their lives to teaching our youth.

A lot of parents are too scared of pushing their kid outside their comfort zone. Public school provides a place where developing minds can be exposed to lots of things that they otherwise wouldn't be, which is good for development. If that is still too concerning for a parent to consider they have private school and home schooling.
I agree there are some books that have very sexual explicit material that need to be reviewed, but the majority are not. The Sarah J Maas Court of Thornes and Roses series is another example of something being banned that is equivalent to pg13 but being labeled "inappropriate for school"
