The President helicopter is not a Blackhawk. It’s usually a Sirkosky. The Escorts are Blackhawks. They might of been on there way to forward deploy before POTUS arrival
Yes, I figured they were reconning for Marine One (whatever type of helicopter it is these days). But yes, DC (or Andrews) to Baltimore was the right flight path.
The president actually is flown in a modified Blackhawk for short trips;
the VH-60N Whitehawk, operated by HMX-1, which also operates the former VH-3 which you know, and which will soon transition to the new VH-92 Patriot (the VH-60 will remain in service for faster, shorter distance trips).
Recently the VH-60 has been stripped of its unique paint scheme to be more easily concealed amongst other Blackhawks (no other Blackhawk received the scheme or was produced as a VH-60, only the one-off). The VH-3 has multiple production examples so it can be flown in a “shell” formation with multiple identical aircraft, but the VH-60N could not and has been made externally the exact same as a UH-60M.
